Need help in designing VLANS for 20 dept

I have 1000 nodes for which i am planning a Campus wide network , with 1 Layer three switch, some 15 L2 switches . I have some 20 different departments and need different ip schemes for all of them. I need this with security enabled so that the departments resources are safe. Please do suggest me how can i go for it . . .
Do suggest what IP scheme i can allot , if one dept is having 60 users and another is having 490 users .
Thanks in Advance,
Max

Hello Sai Krishna,
first of all you need a classless routing protocol like RIPV2, EIGRP or OSPF so that you can use different subnet masks as needed without wasting ip addresses.
Then you need to create an address plan that fits all your needs and leave space to grow.
Likely you will be using private ip addresses as described in RFC 1918.
For example you can use:
172.20.0.0/20
first you divide this space in /23 subnets that are good to host 490 users
172.20.0.0/23
172.20.2.0/23
172.20.14.0/23
for vlans with 60 users it is wise to leave space for additional hosts if needed in the future so I would use a /25 for them
let's take
172.20.12.0/23 further subnetting this with a /25 means moving to the right of two bits and gives four subnets:
172.20.12.0/25
172.20.12.128/25
172.20.13.0/25
172.20.13.128/25
this can accomodate 4 subnets/departments.
I wouldn't use subnets bigger then a /23 because otherwise the broadcast overhead becomes very great.
Having a multilayer switch you can also think to put the 490 users in two vlans/subnets.
About the security this depends on the security levels you want to build:
complete segregation of departments can be achieved with VRF lite (actullay different routing tables for each department).
Some level of control can be achieved by using ACLs applied on the SVI logical vlans interfaces on the L3 switch.
Hope to help

  • Need help with designing form for exports

    Hi
I am pretty new to designing form in adobe acrobat.
I have adobe acrobat 9 standard with Adobe liveCycle Designer installed.
There are couple of things I want to do.
    1.
I would like to add a box where I can change the number (default is 1), and when I increase it, (for instance to two)
    then
it will postulate the particular sections twice.
For instance, I am taking two drugs right now, then I would like to increase the number of drugs to 2, so then for each drug
I would enter appropriate information such as drug name, drug form, route of drug administration etcs
    I hope this is clear
    2.
I am trying to export this in xml format so that only the ones where the user fills in in pdf form gets exported to xml format.
I would like the boxes to have its own tag, for instance the drug name mentioned above can have a tag of <drugname></drugname>
I know this is possible through changing the box's name in binding tab.
What I am interested in is to add a tag for the section, like a header.
For example, if I were to enter two drug information I want the first drug information to be exported to be
    <drug>
    <drugname>blah</drugname><drugform>1</drugform><drugroute>oral</drugroute>
    </drug>
    <drug>
    <drugname>drug2</drugname><drugform>1</drugform>
    <drugroute>ophthalmic</drugroute>
    </drug>
how would I add <drug> </drug> for each drug?
also, can I change the order of the tags??
in the pdf form, if the drugname box is displayed later than drugroute box, then when I export it, it will display as
    <drugroute>oral</drugroute><drugname>blah</drugname>
but I want to manually set the order of tags when exported.
Sorry I asked so many questions
I hope it is clear enough for you to visualize what I am trying to do
    Thank you so much

    1. You can certainly add sections for the number of drugs that the user specifies pr
ovided that the form is set up the correct way to begin with. The drug information section must be wrapped in a subform (usually Poistioned) and that in turn must be wrapped in a flowed subform. Then the form must be saved as dynamic. If this information is all that is on the form then that shoudl be all you need to do. If th edrug section is in the middle of the form then you need to wrap the other parts of the form in a subform so they can be pushed down when we add the drug subforms. It can get confusing ...seeing the form amnd its structure would help to clarify.
    2. You canbnot change the names of tags on the fly but you can change their values. AS mentioned above, when you wrap the Drug information in a subform that subform name can be used as a tag in the XML. Then you could have a node with the tag (or an attribute) that names the drug in question. Something like this:
    <Drug Section>
         <Drug>
              <DrugName></DrugName>
              <Dossage></Dossage>
              <Supplier></Supplier>
         </Drug Subform>
         <Drug>
              <DrugName></DrugName>
              <Dossage></Dossage>
              <Supplier></Supplier>
         </Drug>
    </Drug Section>
As mentioned earlier this is always easier to explain when you see it in context of your form.....if you want to send it to me at [email protected] I can get you started at least. Please include a description of your issue in the email

  • VLAN with PAT and 3 networks...I need help with design!

I've been tasked with a major upgrade to my current network and internet access.
    1.     I need to have an internal private network with access to the internet.  This will be for large meetings, and I'll use a private network with 2048 addresses.
    2.     I also will have a small publid network with 8 routable addresses for Firewall, Web Server, PAT (NAT overload) for the above Private network internet access.
    3.     I want to split a class C address into two networks to allow one network (128 addresses) for Guest use that need routable addresses, and a second network (the other 128 addresses) for specific meetings that also need routable addresses.
    I have:
I have been issued a router from my ISP.  They have allocated me one .248 network with 8 addresses (6 usable) and a full class C network.
A Cisco 1841 router with 2 FA ethernet ports.  I would like to use one FA port at the outside (to my ISP router) and the other FA port as my Inside port (to all other networks).  I will do NAT Overload.
    I also have a Layer 3 Catylist 3750 switch.
Do I need to set up VLANs for each Network?
Can I place my network hardware on the 10 network?
Do I need router sub interfaces for my VLANs and can I PAT on a Subinterface?

    Hi Brian
    1. Do I need to set up VLANs for each Network?
Create seperate VLANS for each subnet and do the intervlan routing on 3750
    2. Can I place my network hardware on the 10 network?
    Yes
    3. Do I need router sub interfaces for my VLANs and can I PAT on a Subinterface?
Not required. You can do the intervlan routing on your Layer 3 3750 switch. From 3750 you can point a default-route to the router.
On the router you can perform PAT based on an ACL. Also you need to add Static NAT for your Webserver etc

  • Need help buying a PC for a graphics designer.

    Hi,
I have a user that uses a desktop maskin basically only for Photoshop. I have my eyes on the following PC but im not sure if it is good enough for working with photoshop.
I would  appreciate all the help i can get. for exemple, should there be more CPU or a better Grapic card.
    Precision T1600
Intel Xeon E3-1225, 3,1 GHz, Quad Core CPU

    1GB nVidia Quadro 600 (DP,DVI)
    Windows 7 pro, 64Bit

Me neither. I had a NVidia card in one workstation, which I finally got to behave in Photoshop after going through...a number...of driver versions. Problems were legion: stuttering and jerky sliders, disappearing cursor, flashing tiles display, crashes, even BSOD's. But in the end I found a version that worked.
Then I bought Lightroom 4. Sliders would take two seconds to respond, and another three to four for the display to update. Switching between two images was agony. It was totally and utterly useless.
The other machine has an ATI 5850 and has never given me any problems. So I thought what the heck, bought an ATI 6670 card - and all the Lightroom problems went away, just like that.
My totally unscientific conclusion is this: NVidia is for kids playing games. People doing serious work should stay with ATI.

  • Need help choosing optimal hardware for a laptop that will run AE CS5

    BACKGROUND INFO (Questions listed below)
I need some help figuring out the best hardware configuration for a new laptop. I’m a student at a design school and I will be using the laptop to mainly run After Effects and to a lesser extent Photoshop and Illustrator. I don’t need to worry about 3D rendering software or Premier Pro. I am primarily interested in getting the best performance during editing. I am not looking for the best performance for final output. I would prefer to sacrifice final output times for better editing/interface performance.
I will be working with standard definition content and perhaps HD up to 720p on occasion. I do not need to operate in resolutions higher than 720p. My projects are generally animation and use many sources and many layers.
I’ve been reading up on optimal hardware configurations for CS5 but my understanding is still a little foggy and I would like to use this thread to figure out how to build the best machine for my budget. The budget is about $1400 to $1600 CANADIAN after tax.
I DON’T need help finding the laptop. I will search for it on my own. I just need to understand the best hardware to purchase within my budget.
I realize that it is probably impossible to buy the laptop I want with the hardware configuration I need “off the shelf”. Instead I will be looking for a good base model (~$900-$1100) and I will purchase the necessary hardware upgrades separately. I will not be purchasing a Mac.
Right now I’m thinking of a machine built something like this:
    - 15”-16” screen (17” models are too big/heavy)
    - Mid to high end i5 processor OR entry level i7 quad core
    - 8GB RAM (I would go to 12GB, but it’s hard to find a 15”-16” laptop with 3 memory slots)
    - SSD to replace HDD (However, if possible, I would like a laptop with dual HDD support or swap the optical drive for another HDD. If I had access to 2 drives, I would have and HDD/SSD combo).
    - Medium/high end NVIDIA GPU to take advantage of OpenGL while editing.
    QUESTIONS
    1) Does the “Render Multiple Frames Simultaneously” option enhance general editing performance (applying filters, scrubbing through the timeline, reverting history states)? Or does it ONLY help speed up RAM previews and final output? Does it reduce the length of RAM previews?
1b) Is this option even necessary to enable on 64bit systems? (As far as I understand it was used to solve a problem where 32bit systems/software would only recognize 4GB of RAM per instance of AE).
1c) If I turn this option on to help with RAM previews, would I be hindering general editing performance in any way? Or does this option have basically zero drawbacks?
    2) How come “Actual CPUs that will be used” will read 0 even if the sum total of RAM assigned to the CPUs plus the RAM reserved for other applications is less than the total available system RAM (on a 64bit system)? For example, I currently have 4GB RAM and 2 installed CPUs. I have 1.5GB reserved for other programs and when I set 0.75GB per CPU both CPUs are used. However when I set 1GB per CPU then 0 CPUs are used, even though the total RAM adds up to only 3.5GB.
    CPU
3.) Considering the fact that I am more concerned with smooth performance while editing rather than final output speeds, would it be better to get a dual core i5 clocked around 2.5 or a quad core i7 clocked around 1.8?
4.) What is the difference between an i3 and an i5 processor even if they are clocked at the same speed? How does an i5 460M compare on the grand scheme of things?
    RAM
6.) Should the quantity of RAM that I get (8GB vs 12GB) be based on the number of cores in my CPU? If so, how should I be calculating optimal RAM based on # of cores. Should I also be counting threads, or just actual physical cores?
    STORAGE/SWAP
7.) Should I replace the HDD with an SSD? I'm looking for snappy interface performance while editing. I would think that if the RAM fills up it would be best to have the SSD for scratch/cache.
8.) What performance benchmarks are most important when considering an SSD for After Effects? (4k writes? IOs per second? Max read/write?)
9.) I can afford the OCZ Vertex2 120GB SSD. Would this be a good choice if an SSD is recommended?
10.) Would it be better to have 8GB of RAM and an SSD, or 12GB of RAM and an HDD? Explain why.
    GPU
10.) After Effects utilizes OpenGL to enhance editing performance. I will not really be using Premier Pro, so catering to the CUDA Mercury Engine is not a concern. Do high end gaming cards provide significant gains in OpenGL performance? Or do OpenGL performance gains taper off around the mid-range GPUs? (i.e. can you justify buying a high end GTX 260M graphics card for enhanced editing performance versus an "entry level" dedicated card like the 310M?)
11.) What hardware specs are most important when considering a GPU for editing performance in AE? (Memory size? # of Pixel shaders? Core speed? Shader speed?)
Thanks so much for any answers you can offer to these questions.

Please make sure that you've read through this page and what it points to.
    > 1) Does the “Render Multiple Frames Simultaneously” option

the timeline, reverting history states)? Or does it ONLY help speed up

    previews?
It only increases rendering speed for RAM previews and rendering for final output. In After Effects CS5, it doesn't decrease the length of RAM previews. (In CS4, it does.)
1b) Is this option even necessary to enable on 64bit
systems? (As far as I understand it was used to solve a problem where
32bit systems/software would only recognize 4GB of RAM per instance of
    AE).
You misunderstood. Yes, it's still relevant on 64-bit computers. Moreso, in a way. (I'd rather not spend my entire Sunday writing out detailed answers to satisfy idle curiosity, so I'm not going to give all the technical detail to that answer.)
    > 1c) If I turn this option on to help with RAM previews,
would I be hindering general editing performance in any way? Or does
this option have basically zero drawbacks?
It takes a small but nonzero time for the background processes to start up when they need to be used and shut down when they're done. And as they sit waiting, they take up a little bit of memory. So, it's not exactly correct to say that there are no downsides to leaving it on. But it's close. I leave it on.
    > 2) How come “Actual CPUs that will be used” will read 0 even

4GB - 1.5GB for other software leaves 2.5 GB for After Effects.
If you have 1GB assigned per background CPU, then the foreground takes 1.2x that = 1.2GB. That leaves 1.3GB for background processes, which is enough for one background process. There's no point in starting only one background process to do rendering, so it doesn't bother. (Note: When background processes are rendering, the foreground process isn't rendering.)
    > 3.) Considering the fact that I am more concerned with
smooth performance while editing rather than final output speeds, would
it be better to get a dual core i5 clocked around 2.5 or a quad core i7
    clocked around 1.8?
Get the quad-core. That gives you a greater total number of cycles. And After Effects works very well with mutliple processors, even beyond Render Multiple Frames Simultaneously multiprocessing. An entirely unrelated sort of multiprocessing (multithreading) spreads work out to multiple processors.
    > 6.) Should the quantity of RAM that I get (8GB vs 12GB) be based on the number of cores in my CPU? If
so, how should I be calculating optimal RAM based on # of cores. Should
I also be counting threads, or just actual physical cores?
The optimum amount is the amount that you can cram into the computer. I'm not kidding. Spend your budget on RAM until you have 4GB installed per processor (and I'm counting the virtual processors due to hyperthreading). If you have a quad-core, that's 8 CPUs with hyperthreading, so the optimum amount of RAM installed is 32GB. You can work with less, but you did ask about optimum. For HD work (i.e., 1920 pixels across), you're OK with more like 3GB installed per CPU. That's what I have at home: 24GB in a quad-core. You're going to assign 2/3 or so of the RAM to After Effects, so 3GB installed per CPU is 2GB per core for HD work in After Effects.
    > 10.) Would it be better to have 8GB of RAM and an SSD, or 12GB of RAM and an HDD? Explain why.
12GB of RAM. Because After Effects likes RAM. (If you're thinking of deliberatly using virtual memory to swap memory to the hard disk, don't. That's a performance killer.)
    > 10.) After Effects utilizes OpenGL to enhance editing performance.
Not really. If you're on a limited budget, don't even think about the GPU until you've already got the most RAM, the fastest CPUs, the largest number of CPUs, two fast hard disks, and a couple of good monitors. Then, and only then, should you even consider getting soemthing beyond a non-stock graphics card. Yes, OpenGL can be used to accelerate some things, but that's only for the low-fidelity preview renderer. (Pardon the bluntness, but I want to make sure that you heed this.)

  • Need help in design/framework of a project requirements

    Hi there.
I need some input/design suggestion and/or comments regarding 2 projects that I'm undertaking currently. The project duration is 8 weeks starting now.
Some background information of the current technology we are using right now. We are using weblogic 7.0 SP2 and our database is ms sqlserver 2000 and/or mysql. The persistance layer/framework we are using is a home grown JDBC framework. We are using only stateless session beans and our client which is a swing ui access the servers side thru webservices via a session facade. We use also Transfer objects on the client and our own DataObjects on the server side. Current consideration is that we can not upgrade to the current weblogic version at this time and can only use java 1.4 and use existing persistence framework we have. I've considered using Spring/Hibernate but it will involve major refactoring on our existing system, which we can not afford right now. But we can augment or add new framework to handle this 2 projects.
    1. The first project is a mass update/creation of orders and order items. In our system the update and creation of order and order items are complicated and perform several validations (e.g. vendor/client is valid; item are valid and have enough to on-hand, etc.) and lookups before we can create/update an order and it's order items. We estimated that process to be around 1.5 - 3.0 secs and typically we will be processing between a few hundreds to about 5000. The max ceiling we put is 10,000.
    Now the requirements are:
    a. Ensure that the process will be completed and in the event of failure (physical or network or power) and recovery to start where it failed and start processing from that point of failure.
    b. The transaction should be atomic on per order basis and not on whole process - meaning we will commit all changes for an order and start a new transaction on the next order. This will ensure that we have a complete order committed.
    c. Don't tie the client from this process and when the process is finished give a feedback to the client who invoke the process.
    2. The second project is related to the first, is that before they post the process above, the user will look at the set of data and do some editing and then post the data. So this project is on the UI side and would present the user a table/grid view of the data and since data set could be large, we want our swing ui to fetch only a set of rows/data so that it does not take so long to load all the data or run out of memory. A button or by the user scrolling on the scrollbar would fetch the next succeeding rows/data. The problem we have as stated on the first paragraph is these- we are using webservices and stateless session beans and there is no way that the server can recognized who the user is when that user request the next set of row/data set without querying the database again.
So your input and help is very much appreciated and if you know an existing framework that would help me is most welcome.
    Have a blessed day.

  • Need Help Please - PSD InDesign (for print)?

    Hello Everyone,
I'm a graphic designer for a company that has decided to run some print ads in a magazine. At the time, I only had Photoshop to create their advertisement with. Now they have purchased CS4, which will make my life easier in the future, however, for now I have the problem of creating my advertisement made with Photoshop and creating a print ready PDF.
    Here is my problem:
    - I created a PSD at 8.5" x 11" at 300ppi
    - I did not take in to account for the 0.125" bleeds and 1/8" trim
    - It needs to be SWOP compliant (I figured out I can export a PDF that adheres to SWOP)
    - Fonts should be Type 1 Postscript, no TTF (I'm using Helvetica and Arial, when I export the PDF, it says the embedded fonts are TTF)
    - I'm totally lost with regards for designing work for print!
Here the specs they gave me, AFTER I created the design in Photoshop
    ====
Full page, full bleed 8.0" 10-3/4" (**I created my PSD as a 8.5" x 11" - without regard to bleeds**)
Include 1/8 bleed over all to ensure full page bleed
and keep live copy 1/4 from trim and crop marks.
    CMYK, 4-color process printing only.
Do not add bleed to partial page ads.
All requirements are based on Specifications for Web Offset
Publications (SWOP). Any deviation from these specifications may
    result in less-desirable printed results.
We support PDF files generated by Adobe Acrobat using
the X-1A Job Option Settings for Distiller. In order for
prepress to generate printable PDF s, it is important that
the native file is prepared accordingly.
Preparing native files for printable PDF s:
All images/scans must be in CMYK mode,
    300 dpi resolution
Use Postscript (Type 1) fonts only. No True
Type, Windows/PC or custom fonts accepted
    Embed all fonts
Do not nest EPS files in other EPS files
Four-color solids should not exceed SWOP
    density of 280%
Provide two digital color proofs at 100% size, created

I've never done print work before, as I'm mainly a graphic designer for the web.
Any help on this matter would be greatly appreciated! Unfortunately for me, they bought the advertisement space with the magazine for the running of the next issue before speaking with me. So I'm under extreme pressure to get this underway. I'll be most grateful for any help or guidance, Thanks guys!

You can Place a PSD in Indesign, but unless the bleed is a single color,
it's going to be easier to add bleed in Photoshop. Bleed is whatever
gets cut off when they trim the paper. Trim is close, but not exact, so
whatever picture or color goes to the edge of the paper must extend
beyond the edge to avoid trim including some white when the trim is not
quite perfect. If it's a picture that goes to the edge, you need to
figure out a way to extend the picture beyond the edge. If it's white
that goes to the edge, then you don't need bleed. If it's a non-tone
color field (a single color) then you could Place the PSD in Indesign
and add bleed color behind it and extending beyond the edge of the page.
The magazine should not concern themselves with TT or T1 fonts, either
one should work. That said, Helvetica and Arial are very close. If your
Helvetica is Type 1, just use Helvetica for the whole thing. If you
embed it in the PDF, it should show there as a Type 1 subset.

  • Need help with calculator project for an assignment...

Hi all, I please need help with my calculator project that I have to do for an assignment.
Here is the project's specifications that I need to do"
"""Create a console calculator applicaion that:
    * Takes one command line argument: your name and surname. When the
program starts, display the date and time with a welcome message for the
    user.
    * Display all the available options to the user. Your calculator must include
the arithmetic operations as well as at least five scientific operations of the
    Math class.
-Your program must also have the ability to round a number and
    truncate it.
-When you multiply by 2, you should not use the '*' operator to perform the
    operation.
-Your program must also be able to reverse the sign of a number.
    * Include sufficient error checking in your program to ensure that the user
only enters valid input. Make use of the String; Character, and other
    wrapper classes to help you.
    * Your program must be able to do conversions between decimal, octal and
    hex numbers.
    * Make use of a menu. You should give the user the option to end the
program when entering a certain option.
    * When the program exits, display a message for the user, stating the
current time, and calculate and display how long the user used your
    program.
    * Make use of helper classes where possible.
    * Use the SDK to run your program."""
When the program starts, it asks the user for his/her name and surname. I got the program to ask the user again and again for his/her name and surname
when he/she doesn't insert anything or just press 'enter', but if the user enters a number for the name and surname part, the program continues.
Now my question is this: How can I restrict the user to only enter 'letters' (and spaces of course) but allow NO numbers for his/her surname??

What you could do is checking the input string for numbers. If it contains numbers, just reprompt for the Name.
AND you might want to ask yourself why the heck a calculator needs to know the users Name.

  • Need help in dynamic report for a range of year and period

    Dear all,
I need help in creating an ALV report with dynamic columns based on the Year and period entered on the selection screen. for example if in the year we enter 2002 and period range from 10 to 12 then we should get the 3 columns display for cost(example) for period 10/2002, 11/2002 and 12/2002.
Can anyone help me in achieving this dynamically since the user can enter the year also in intervals along with the period and data also needs to be populated in the corresponding columns.
An example code would be of great help.
    Thanks,

    to shutdown standby server:
from primary server connecting to dgmgrl
    dgmgrl>DISABLE SITE standby_site1;
    then connecting to standby server
    sql>alter database recover managed standby database cancel;
    sql>shu immediate;
and finnaly connecting to primary server
    sql>shu immediate
is it right since i am new to datagaurd concept need help.
    Regards
    Prakash

You can do so, but you would shutdown the whole standby environment. But normally standby is used to have no or only short downtime. So a switchover to the standby DB is performed (after this standby is now running as primary), maintenance is done on the primary and then at the end another switchover back from the 'new' primary to the 'old' primary.
