Need help in installing a SATA hard drive with 865pe NEO2

Hello there
I need a help in installing a Sata hard drive ,it is WD 250 GB , my motherboard is 865PE Noe2 , the bios is the latest one
already I got another old hard drive ,not a Sata ,a regular IDE one installed as a master hard drive
I want to install the sata hd as a slave for the IDE hd for now to transfer the files and documents
I already physically installed the Sata hard drive yet the problem is that it was listed in the bios , I followed some of the steps here in the forum mentioned but all what I got is I found it listed as the fourth IDE master , not as the primary IDE slave
in Windows Xp Sp2 it is not listed of course in the windows explorer , but it is there in the device manager
look I am very confused and I tried most of the combinations in the ide configuration in BIOS
what should I do coz I am feeling so bad and stupid  ,you can consider me a n00b in this hard drive thing

1st the sata drive cannot be listed as a slave drive to the ide master [key word=ide-can be configured as master OR slave, master IF only 1 hd, master and slave IF 2 hds], on the sata controler you can have master and slave, the ide cable has two connectors for the hds, sata has only 1 hd connector.
are you wanting to install the sata as primary master and move the operating sys to that drive, if so you will need an IMAGING software to move an operating system OR you could do a fresh operating system install to the sata drive then install your programs.

You can go strait to SL, all you need is a retail SL DVD available from Apple for $20. The US online store has them at:

  • Need help! White screen and hard drive

I have a MacBook Pro A1211 I got off Craigslist. It needed a new logic board and hard drive so I got both. My problem is I just found out the hard drive has windows on it and when I power on the MBP all I get is a white screen.  My question is is there a way to get windows off that hard drive while its installed in the MBP? I've tried every command I could find online to push when I power on the MacBook but it does nothing. I bought a copy of snow leopard 10.6 factory sealed and put it in the super drive but it just spins for a while and then stops. The fans constantly run also but I'm new to MacBook so I don't know if that's suppose to happen. I got the disk management to come up one by holding down option and power on but it didn't give me the option of choosing the SuperDrive and I can't get it back up. It's almost like the keyboard isn't working. If there's any suggestions y'all can give me I'd appreciate it.

Recommend adapter to replace 3.5" hard drive with 2.5"

    Hi there,
    I used this --> http://eshop.macsales.com/item/Newer%20Technology/ADPTADRV/

Theoretically any normal 2.5-3.5 drive adapter will work.
    Hope this helps

  • I need help to repair my external hard drive

    (1) My External Hard Drive finally stopped  working. Whenever I tried to use it, I would only get variants of, "Time Machine couldn't complete the Backup to "My Passport for Mac", or "The backup disc is not available".
    (2) "No problem," I thought. "There is no problem with my computer, so I'll just buy another external hard drive," and I did.
    (3) About this time, I partitioned my computer hard drive to enable me to run both Snow Leopard and Mountain Lion. I did this with step-by-step instructions by Apple technicians.
    (4) I now find that I have lost a considerable number of files, including those that I value most highly.
    (5) I now find that I need the files in my old, abandoned external hard drive, and it seems to me that the easiest way to access those files is simply to repair it.
(Here's what I've tried so far: (1) Disc Utility Repair. Didn't help. (2) COMMAND-R start. This produced a window with the following entries: Restore from Time Machine Backup, Reinstall OSX, Get Help online, Disk Utility. It seemed to offer hope, but I couldn't highlight any of them, and the "continue" command was dimned out. Where do I go from here? Data recovery is the solution usually offered, and I've alwys wondered why. It seems to me that fixing the external hard drive should always be the first thing to be considered. Data recovery is expensive, and fixing the external hard drive might be cheap.

I don't think the HD's broken. More likely, since you used it for TM, that's what causing your issues. However, since I don't use TM or ever use WD's crappy HDs, all I can suggest is to peruse Pondini's TM FAQs for starters. Then, check out his troubleshooting steps.
    What is "WD"?

  • How can i install a sata hard drive in my compaq nx6110

There is a rediculously small hard drive installe in my laptop 40gb. I want to install at least a 240 gb but only can find sata drives that size. How do I go about installing the sata drive.

You cannot install a SATA drive, and you can't go up to 240
because the BIOS is not "48 bit" compatible.
This limits you to 137 GB or less. There are plenty of 120 GB drives
on Ebay for pretty good prices; just search this phrase:
    "2.5 PATA 120"

  • Need help - downloading photos to portable hard drive

I've imported about 2000 photos from my iPhone to my Macbook Air.  I want to export them now to a portable hard drive but it's saying I don't have enough memory.  I was planning on deleting the photos on the MacAir afterwards anyway.
    Two questions:
1.) How do I move these photos to my portable hard drive, so I can then delete them on the hard drive?
2.) How do I bypass downloading to the MacAir next time, and move photos right from iPhone to portable hard drive?
I'm tech savvy on all things Windows, and have had Macs in the past, so I'm ready to pull my hair out over these novice questions.
    Help!

Have your recipients given you any more info than you've given us? The simplest thing for you to do is to capture your footage, get it in a timeline, then export as a QuickTime movie, which should be around 9 or 10 GB in size. Your PC friend would need to download QuickTime in order to view it.
There are tools available to convert to Windows Media or other formats. One of the best is MPEG Streamclip, which you can download here:
    http://www.squared5.com/
You'll need to be certain to format the hard drives properly (do this in Disk Utility): Mac OS Extended for your Mac friend, MS-DOS for your PC friend. There are issues with some PC drives and files over 2GB, so you may need to break your QuickTime movie into 9-minute segments.

  • Help, need help booting XP from external hard drive

Hi all, i can't seem to get XP to boot from my external hard drive.
OK, heres the story. i have an imac. i use bootcamp to run OSX and XP. things are good. but i run out of space, so i buy myself a 2tb bare drive and swap it out. so i put the original internal with OSX and XP into an external firewire/usb enclosure. I install refit. I hold option on startup and it shows that i have a windows and a mac OS i can boot from the External firewire disk. looks great, but when i choose the windows from the Ext disk, it doesn't boot, instead it loads windows7 on my new 2tb internal disk.
i hear its hard to boot windows XP from an external disk. my professor told me it has something to do with the boot.ini file on the XP disk... something about changing the value of the "rdisk" to 1, which i have done.
i am not trying to reinstall xp, rather just boot from it because i have so many applications/plugins that i do not wish to reinstall.
Does anyone know if this is possible?>> Logon to windows7, and create a system image/backup of the system FROM the XP external disk? and then reinstall XP on that disk, then restore back onto itself? that way i won't have to reinstall.
    anyone have any ideas?

  • New mac user, need help transferring music from external hard drive

I am new to using a mac. I have had an iphone for almost a year so I am catching on quickly to my macbook but this problem has stumped me and all my mac using friends.
I have a 500gb seagate external hard drive aswell as a new 500gb seagate internal.
I transferred all my music from an old ipod onto the external hard drive. There is about 50gb of music.
When I plug my external into my pc desktop I can see the music folder organized into subfolders with files inside that are encoded unless they are opened in itunes. My pc doesn't have enough internal memory to open and store my music library so I have just left it on the hard drive. When I plug the hard drive into my macbook it will show the music folder as having 50gb but when the folder is opened, none of the subfolders or files are visable.
I went ahead and dragged the folder from my harddrive onto my desktop. It took about an hour to transfer all the files but now the folder is sitting on my desktop and when I open it, it is empty. If i look in the folders info, it says it has the 50gb. If i try to drag and drop it into itunes nothing happens. If I drag and drop it into the itunes music folder, it will go there but will not show up on itunes.
I'm stumped and no longer eligable for apples telephone support as I bought this macbook from a friend. Any help would be greatly appreciated

I have a couple of theories, but I'm not an iTunes expert. These people are, though:

  • Need help using iPod as external hard drive

Hi. Will soon be receiving a new iMac to replace my old Dell PC and had a question about how to get all of the contents of the Dell hard drive onto my new iMac using my 60GB iPod. I am a complete computer novice.
    1. How do I do it?
    2. The iPod is currently formatted for my Dell PC. Once I have transferred all of my files (including music) over to the iMac, do I need to reformat the iPod? How do I do this?
    3. Will all my playlists in iTunes be saved when I do the transfer?
Any advice or direction to links would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks.
    iMac G5

"how to get all of the contents of the Dell hard drive onto my new iMac using my 60GB iPod"
If everything you've got will fit then enable your iPod for disk use and drag what you want onto it, or do it a bit at a time: Using your iPod as a hard disk
There is a good general guide to switching from Windows to Mac at the following link that touches on moving music as well How to Move to a Mac - Get your stuff from your PC to your new Mac
"1. How do I do it?"
Have a look at this guide specifically on moving iTunes: How to use your iPod to move your music to a new computer
"2. The iPod is currently formatted for my Dell PC. Once I have transferred all of my files (including music) over to the iMac, do I need to reformat the iPod? How do I do this?"
If you don't intend using your iPod on Windows again the you can reformat it by restoring it on the Mac: Restoring iPod to Factory Settings
"3. Will all my playlists in iTunes be saved when I do the transfer?"
If you follow the instructions in the guide you should have your whole library just as it was.

  • Can I use any SATA hard drive with an iMac?

Hi, I'm a PC user from birth, and want to purchase an iMac, but the 500gb-1tb isn't enough storage for what I currently have on my PC (I have 4x 250gb hard drives, plus I'd need more room for the Mac OS). My question is, can I use any HD in the iMac, or does it have to be a "mac" hard drive? Also, can I hook up any external hd's? If this is the case, I'll buy 5-10 external enclosures for my hd's and build a custom box for them all. (Or put it in a slower PC I have, and run as a server, as I have to sell my good PC to afford a iMac)

My iMac reports its internal HD as 'WD3200AAJS' (WesternDigital Caviar SE line),
so it appears to be a standard form-factor HD with a standard SATA interface.

  • Install on new hard drive with '06 macbook

    Hello.
A couple of days ago my 80 gig hard drive gave out, so today I bought a new 250 Samsung hard drive, which I have installed. However, when I turn the macbook on with install DVD in and press the button, c, which I have been told is what you need to do to start the install, nothing happends... The same folder with a question mark just keeps appearing...
    What is wrong?
    Best regards
    Jesper Pedersen

It sounds like you may need to format the Samsung hard drive for use with Snow Leopard. Normally, you would do that by starting up from the Snow Leopard DVD & using its copy of Disk Utility (found in the "Utilities" menu) to partition the drive, making sure you choose the *GUID Partition Map* partitioning scheme from the "options" button in the Partition tab of Disk Utility.
However, you apparently also have a problem with the optical drive since you cannot start up from the Snow Leopard DVD with it. This is very likely, since even without the option or C key press, if your Mac can find no other viable startup volume it would eventually normally start up from the Snow Leopard DVD without your doing anything special.
My guess is that whatever problem affected your original HD also has affected the optical drive. To confirm this, perhaps you can take the Mac & the DVD to the support specialist at your university for further assistance.

  • HELP moving photo's from hard drive with aperture to hard drive with iphoto

I was trying to move the photo's from hard drive a with aperture to hard drive b and start using iphoto but I have had no luck. In aperture when I select relocate masters a error comes up and say's: unavailable master images cannot be relocated. Either offline or not found. I originally had the masters on a external hard drive, when I got divorced my ex took the external drive for her mac. I am able to view the photos but I don't know how to move them. Thanks

I think you're missing the point - it's a question of where the images are, and it sounds a lot like the images are on the hard disk you used to own.
Managed = you keep the images in the Aperture library
Referenced = the images stay where they are on the hard disk and they're indexed in the library.

  • Need help deciding on an internal hard drive for my MBP 15 inch.

Okay I'm tired of dealing hitting the wall with my internal memory. I don't want to use an external drive all the time so help me out. Please? I'm currently torn between the Western Digital Blue 1tb 7200rpm vs the WD Black 750gb 7200 rpm. I want the larger capacity of the blue but have heard some Mac users have had issues with it. Anyone have some advice or perhaps a recommendation for a better drive that meets any need I could possily have? Thanks for looking regardless.

Do not use WD Blue or other so-called "green" drives as they tend not to play well with Macs. The largest 7200 RPM notebook SATA drive is 750 GBS. The 1 TB drives are, I believe, all 5400 RPM. So if speed is a major concern then you don't want the 1 TB drives. Pay attention to the default warranties. Drive manufacturers have moved to unbundling the warranty, so you may get a one year warranty by default, but have to pay more for a longer warranty.
