Need help installing boot camp onto macbook pro

I'm attempting to get Boot Camp to run on my MacBook Pro as I need to run several programs on windows for school. I purchased a Windows 8.1 download from Microsoft's website. The download from their website is not an ISO image and is not recognized by the Boot Camp Assistant on the "Create Bootable USB Drive for Windows Installation" screen. I am not a tech savvy person and I would appreciate any help/advice, it seems that I have to somehow convert the download?
Thank you!

You get an ISO using this method - http://www.cnet.com/how-to/how-to-download-the-official-microsoft-windows-8-1-is o/
You will need the ISO to be able to build the USB that Bootcamp needs.

  • Trying to install Boot Camp on MacBook Pro (late 2011) os x Lion

    Hey everyone,
I've been trying to install Boot Camp for my MacBook but when I get up to installing the Windows support software it just stops at around 20% and won't go any further. I've tried restarting the whole thing a few times but it still won't move at all. It's very frustrating as I need some software for one of my University papers.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

  • I need help installing Photoshop on my Macbook Pro.

I am trying to install Photoshop on my Macbook pro running OSX 10.6.8 for my student photographer daughter. Every time I try to install either the 30 day trial or buy the monthly plan it tells me that the computer can't establish a secure connection and suggests that the url has changed. I checked it on my Mac at work, today but it looks fine. She needs Photoshop, not necessarily the fastest newest version for college, but needs to use it from this older Macpro. Any thoughts?

  • INSTALLING BOOT CAMP on MacBook Pro

Can anyone guide or help me? I will pay. If the WSJ says you can do it it must be doable. I have downloaded four versions of the figgin Boot Camp and tried to install it ten times. I cannot get the reboot to produce the two partitions and yes I'm holding the options key down.
Any thoughts, ideas, help would be appreciated. I will gladl pay for a phone consult to get BC on my new MBP.
    Thank you, regards, Tim

    1) Download Boot Camp software, install it.
    2) Navigate to Applications\Utilities, and run the Boot Camp Assistant. This program will partition your hard drive for you, and burn a CD with drivers for Windows on it. After, it will ask you to insert your Windows XP SP2 CD and restart the computer. Do so.
    3) The Windows XP will load up, and you have to work through installing windows. MAKE SURE YOU CHOOSE THE NEW PARTITION YOU MADE, NOT YOUR OS X PARTITION.
    4) After plugging through the Win XP install, you remove the Win XP cd and restart the computer. Hold Option, and your boot drive options will come up. Choose Windows.
    5) Win XP will load up, go through the introduction stuff, hit cancel on any "New Hardware Found" windows that pop up. Stick in the driver CD you burned in OS X, and work your way through that install program.
    6) You're done! Enjoy.

Do I need to install boot camp on Windows 7 as well as on Lion? I already installed it some years ago on Leopard when installing Windows Vista on my Macbook Pro. But now after installing Windows 7, many things in windows doesn't work (sound etc.). I made a clean installation because I needed to go from 32 bit to 64 bit.
Or should I just update bootcamp in Lion? (cause when I search for "boot camp" in Windows 7 there's no result)

You need to either upgrade your OS or buy install an iWork 09 DVD. If you're using a Core 2 Duo or better Mac with at least 2GB of RAM, it's cheaper to buy 10.7 or 10.8 unless you'll also need to upgrade any other software such as Microsoft Office 2004; neither OS supports PowerPC applications. If you're using a Core Duo Mac, you must buy the iWork 09 DVD.

  • Weird DVD drive issue on Windows Boot Camp on Macbook Pro

Hi, I just installed Windows on my Macbook Pro with Boot Camp. Windows itself works fine, then I tried installing Fallout 3. The installation took a really long time, which I thought was weird. I tried to play the game but it timed out in trying to read the disc. To further test this, I threw in a movie DVD and tried to play it. Windows Media Player said I didn't have a compatible DVD decoder. I tried playing the dvd in Mac OS and it works fine. I've also run the Leopard DVD install for Boot Camp fine. I used the Windows XP video decoder and it has determined that I don't have an MPEG-2 decoder installed. What I'm confused about is that if I manage to get a hold of a decoder, will that affect other processes, such as reading the DVD for video games?

    Hi and welcome to Discussions,
by design courtesy of Microsoft the Media Player is not capable of playing DVDs unless an appropriate DVD-Decoder is installed.
You can use an alternative media player like VLC http://www.videolan.org/vlc
But this should not affect the usage of Windows Games, since usually a Games manufacturer puts all needed software to run his games onto the games CD/DVD, so it has to be something else preventing Fallout 3 from running.
Time-outs when trying to read/check the disc can be sometimes caused by 'dirt' on the disc (fingerprints, scratches, etc.).
    Check for that.
Also make sure to have not installed programs for 'Virtual-Disc-Drives' like Daemon-Tools and/or Disc-Burning software like Nero, since these can also hinder the game from running.
    Hope it helps
    Stefan

  • I need help with Boot Camp 2.1! Win XP

I have downloaded the update on Windows XP SP2, but it will not install.
"The installation encountered errors.... Try again at a different time." That's what comes up.
I have tried everything! The command shell thing where you have to type the path of the update file (cmd.exe), I have checked the language code (yes it is 1033) and I have downloaded the files seperately. NOTHING WORKS! I have even re-installed Boot Camp.
    I have:
    Mac Pro
    10.5.4 Leopard
    Windows XP SP2
    Any help will be appreciated!

    I have found a solution!
Well not for installing Boot Camp 2.1 but for installing XP SP3 with Boot Camp 2.0!
I found it on a website but I can't remember which one. But here is what I did.
    Start> Run:
    Type: regedit
    Click "OK"
On the left side of the window there should be a panel with folders name similar to "HKEY_....". Click on:
    HKEYLOCALMACHINE> SOFTWARE> Microsoft> Windows> Current Version> Double click "Setup"
On the window should appear a few files next to the panel on the left. The file type should have "REG" then something after it.
Check in the "Name" column that you DO NOT have "BootDir". If you do then this is not the answer for you!
If you don't have that file:
    Click EDIT> NEW> STRING VALUE
    Name it: BootDir
Right click the file and go to Modify.
Then type in: C:\ and press OK (Or if another drive is your main drive (eg. D) then type in the letter of that drive instead of C (eg. D:\)).
Restart the computer and go into Windows again. Then download the SP3 update in whatever way you have done before.
The installation should continue without the message saying "You need more memory" or something.
    FOR WINDOWS XP!

  • Need help with Boot Camp and Win 7

I have iMac 27" (iMac11,1) 2.8 GHz, quad core, 8MB of L3, 8GB of Memory, Boot ROM Version IM111.0034.B02 and SMC Version 1.54f36 and can't get this machine to run Windows 7 using Boot Camp.  I have successfully loaded Win 7 but when it claims to be starting I only get a black screen after initial start up.
I have checked and rechecked my software updates and have read and reread the instructions, however, I can't update my Boot Camp to 3.1 (my machine says i'm running 3.0.4) and I need 3.1 but can't load 3.1 because it is an exe file that has to be loaded into Windows after I load Windows but can't open Windows because I can't load Boot Camp 3.1.  That's my excuse anyway, so I'm missing something I just can't figure out what it is....this is where you come in!
    Thanks.
    Mike

    Mike,
I'm not going to be much help with Boot Camp however I can direct you to the Boot Camp forum where there are more people that know how to troubleshoot it and Windoze 7. You can find it at:

  • Installing Windows 7 Without Using The Boot Camp Installer (MacBook Pro)

I don't know if anyone knows this or not, but I was able to install Windows 7 on my MacBook Pro just using the Windows 7 install disk.
I restarted with the windows CD in, and when the screen said press any key to boot from CD, I pressed the space bar. When it got to the part to select the installation drive, I went into advanced and removed all the partitions and formatted the whole thing. There was a small system partition the cannot be deleted (probably reserved for the system). I was able to install Windows 7 and use the whole drive for it.
After running Windows 7, I was still able to install the Boot Camp Control Panel to set the keyboard, track pad, sound, and all the other funtions. If I tell it to reboot to the Apple OS, it just reboots to Window 7 with no problems.
Anyway, I thought it was pretty cool and might be helpful for people who want to run only Widows 7 on their MacBook Pro.
CAUTION... DO THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK!!!

People have been using Mac as Windows-only.
On Mac Pro, with 4 internal drives, it is normal to not use anything other than the Windows DVD and install onto a dedicated drive, same as you did, only change it from GPT to MBR first.
    There is no risk.
(Well, some feel that someone might 'need' OS X to do something like a firmware update I guess.)

P.S. The computer is an Imac early 2006 1.83 gb.
    Machine Name: iMac
    Machine Model: iMac4,1
    CPU Type: Intel Core Duo
    Number Of Cores: 2
    CPU Speed: 1.83 GHz
    L2 Cache (shared): 2 MB
    Memory: 1 GB
    Bus Speed: 667 MHz
    Boot ROM Version: IM41.0039.B00

You do not have the firmware update installed. You only have the SMC firmware update. Boot Camp requires this firmware update.

  • Windows 7 Boot Camp on MacBook Pro 10.5.8

    Hey there,
So I'm mostly use my Macbook Pro boot camp'd and am upgrading from XP to Windows 7.  I'm looking everywhere online and it looks like I need Snow Leopard for the Boot Camp v3.0+.  There's no where I can find that is selling Snow Leopard or Lion or Mountain Lion DVD's anywhere at reasonable prices ($95 on Amazon for SL).  I won't have a problem installing the OS itself manually through DiskUtility, but with drivers I don't think they work properly with Win7.
    Anyone know what to do?

    Hello,
    Snow Leopard/10.6.x Requirements...
    General requirements
       * Mac computer with an Intel processor
        * 1GB of memory (I say 4GB at least, more if you can afford it)
        * 5GB of available disk space (I say 30GB at least)
        * DVD drive for installation
        * Some features require a compatible Internet service provider; fees may apply.
        * Some features require Apple’s MobileMe service; fees and terms apply.
Which apps work with Mac OS X 10.6?...
    http://snowleopard.wikidot.com/
It's been pulled from the online store, so you have to call Apple to buy it, last I heard, but quick, call before it's gone!
    Call Apple 1-800-MY-APPLE
You have to get 10.6.8 first to go even higher to 10.7 or 10.8
