Need help please with a recent line repair

to cut a very long story i lost my phone line completely 8 days ago i reported it to my ISP and after 5 days i got it back... now they had to replace the cable running from the telegraph pole to my house for some reason thats where the fault was i thought great well done... couldnt wait to get home and get back on the net .... but to my horror it was so slow taking about 1-2 mins for a page to open and its still pritty poor now takes about 30 secs to 1 minute for a web page to open...been intouch with my ISP im having no joy telling me its all fine nothing wrong i done tests and this and that with them and they seem happy with my connection and speed ...but im telling them that before the repair i was getting between 2.8 and 3.2 MB now im lucky to be getting 1 MB ...one guy even said he couldnt understand why im not happy with the service ...now there telling my its my profile through the line has been changed and ill have to wait for 10 days and checking and testing and doing things over and over again and segesting its my computer and set up ect ...
i have been at this for a week now what can i do ??? please someone help is it the new line or is it my ISP ??
but i keep telling them it was all fine before and theres nothing wrong with my set up or my computer because the lap top is the same with the Ethernet cable plugged in so they both cant be the problem ..i have had them both checked at a cost of £65 with a computer tech guy at the shop he said they are clean and healthy systems !

There is a peice of equipment within the exchange which 'optimises' the speed of the broadband based on what the line is capable of. When you have had the recent fault on the line it is likely this equipment picked up the fact that the line wasnt capable of the speeds you were getting and has 'restricted' the speed to give you a stable connection.
The equipment is there to try and offer you a stable connection for your Broadband (better to have a slowwer speed all the time than a super fast speed for 5 minutes of the day).
Unfortunalty this can be 'confused' when you have a fault on the line and reduce your speed to compensate for the bad line. It should automatically 'optomise' the speed over a 10 day period and the problem should sort it self out.
You can request your ISP to check this and make sure your line is set up corrcetly after the recent fault, but to be honest it can easier to wait the 10 days (as it is likely the people you speak to are not fully aware of this part of the line/Broadband or willing to help)
It is also possible that the repair has had a negative affect on what the line can suppport (this can happen but unlikely to decrease your speed by something which you would notice) and the only soultion for this is to speak to your isp (if they are happy with the speed you are now getting you might not have much luck).
It sounds like your ISP aren'y very helpful and have 'fobbed you off' for the ten days with out just telling you why, if it was me at this point I would consider an alternative ISP.
Hope that atleast explains why they told you to wait ten days. :-)

    Long story short....I had my Ipod 4G and computer stolen several month ago on a business trip(have police report). A friend of mine recently purchased a new Video Ipod and gave me his old 20G...pretty nice of him! I am about to have iTunes loaded on to my new computer.     2. Will I have to reset my newly acquired Ipod before I can place my music on it? I did back up about 80% of the songs from my old Ipod. Or will I be able to keep the 1500 songs my friend placed on it?
    3. Or would it be easier for me to give him back his, cough up the $300 dollars for a new one and start all over?

    Sorry, but it would not be legal to keep the 1500 songs on this iPod that were your friend's songs, assuming that he's still using/listening to them on another computer.
    3. No, I think it would be worth it to keep going, and use the 20GB iPod on your computer. It's not many hoops to jump through, and you should be up and syncing in no time.
    Overall, it's fairly easy, and I would suggest that you keep going with this iPod.
    My note from question #2:
    If you connect an iPod that hasn't been attatched to your computer before, iTunes will most likely display [to the effect of] this message when you connect the iPod for the first time:
    "The songs on the iPod "~~" are linked to another iTunes library. Would you like to replace the content of the iPod with this current iTunes library?"
    Be sure to click on "NO" when you recieve this message.
    Then, click on your iPod's name in the left panel of iTunes.
    Click on the "Music" tab.
    Deselect "Sync Music" if it is already set to this option.
    This means that your iPod is on manual managing now, instead of iTunes automatically transferring songs to your iPod, or deleting them, which is not what you want at this time.
    Now, if you have any songs on the iPod that you need to keep (i.e., if you have some of your songs on this iPod)you have a few options to transfer your iPod songs to your computer.

    Method 2 - Add your iPod's folder into the iTunes library (via iTunes). Read this post here -> Using iTunes settings to transfer iPod songs to iTunes

  • Need Help Please with Flash Professional - No Cursor Change on Buttons/Links in Mac OS

    Hi Folks, I am relatively new to Flash Professional but I recently built a very nice flash website with very little problems.  I noticed after I uploaded my site to my server, that my mouse cursor did not change from an arrow to a finger on any of my buttons.  It did change on the hyperlinks, but not on the buttons.  Everything still worked fine but there was no indication to the user that an object was in fact an interactive button.  I found this code:  button1.buttonMode = true; button1.useHandCursor = true; and inserted it for all my buttons and that seemed to fix everything, I tested the site on firefox, ie, and safari.  I am using a PC with windows 7.  When I went to check the website on a Mac powerbook, the cursor did not change on any of the buttons and it does not change on any of my hyperlinks either.  I have searched all over trying to find a solution and have had no luck.  Can anyone please help me with this problem or point me in the right direction?  Any advice would be very much appreciated.  Thanks so much!!!

    Thank you so much for replying!  I did in fact let flash professional create the HTML page for the site and have not altered it at all.  Would you have any other suggestions as to why it's not displaying my links/buttons on a Mac?  I checked out the browsers Firefox, ie, and safari on my pc, but looking thru safari on the Mac, the cursor does not change on any of my links or buttons.  Thanks again so much for the reply, nice to hear from a human instead of reading thousands of posts!  Very much appreciated!!!!!

    Hi,I had my ipod mini sent into service as the pasue button was bust and I now have a totally new ipod mini send out and Im trying to install it on the pC and it doesnt let me,need help pls

    You may need to format the iPod for use with Windows.
    Try this instead of using the supplied installation CD.
    Download the iPod Updater, install this to your computer, restart the computer, run the Updater, then connect your iPod when prompted (not before), then follow the set up procedure.
    If this is what you are having problems with, then post back with what happens and any error messages you see.

  • I need Help please with OS X

    I have a new MBP with Mavericks 10.9 and a 250GB SSD.
    i am new to Mac and like and idoit I tried to change the name of my hard drive in Macintosh HD.  I then changed it back to original name. When starting it up again I got the disc utlity repair as it did not want to boot. So I had to go thru the process and manage to get it started.
    When it starts up it shows the Macintosh HD still showing the name I changed it to and then it changes itself to Macintosh HD again.
    Now my applications are taking forever to load but not showing the icons only the app's names. Clickin on an app takes forever to load and once it is there it is also running slowly and sometimes the color wheel will go on and on until I have to keep the power button down to shut it down.
    It also tell me that the OSX needs to repair my library to repair apps. When I try to enter my password to continue it does not type and letters into the box.
    I have also repaired disc and permissions and spent hours reading online tried everything related to my problem but still no luck.
    I do not have a DVD drive in my mac and do not have a installation disc.
    Can you please help me?

    Open the Mac App Store and download OS X Mavericks. Do you see any error message or is there something which is not working correctly? If you see an error, copy it here.
    Before upgrading, make a backup of your files with Time Machine and check that your apps are compatible > http://www.roaringapps.com Also, check that your Mac is compatible with OS X Mountain Lion and Mavericks > http://www.apple.com/osx/specs

  • New to iCloud and need help please with getting it working

    I've got an iPad 2 and an iPhone 5 and have decided that it's about time to set up iCloud on my devices. I have followed the instructions on the website and in the icloud settings on both devices have switched on mail, contacts, calendars, reminders, safari, notes, photostream (my photo stream-on), documents and data, find my iphone, and icloud backup on. I have ensured that both devices have been backed up and automatic downloads on iTunes & App stores have all been switched on.
    I have not yet set up my PC for iCloud.
    My understanding is that icloud will sync new downloads and photos etc so I have just tried taking a picture on my iphone, expecting it to appear in my camera roll on my iPad and nothing has happened.
    Please can someone advise me if I am doing something wrong or how to resolve this.

    Photostream only syncs photos over Wi-Fi, make sure you are connected to Wi-Fi to begin with.
    Photostream only syncs when the camera app is closed, ensure it is closed.
    Photostream only syncs when the battery is above 20%, try recharging the device
    Try disabling photo stream on your device (settings > iCloud), restarting your device and then re-enabling photo stream.
    If this doesn't help you may need to reset photo stream. You can do this at icloud.com by clicking on your name in the top right corner and then the advanced settings in the pop-up dialogue box that appears.
    Note: disabling photostream and re-enabling it will result in any photos that are currently in the photostream album on your device, that are older than 30 days old, not being added back.

    I recently purchased a camera Leica V-Lux (Typ114) and Lightroom 5 was included in the package. I have managed to download Lightroom 5 but i cannot open the programme. I received and e-mail with the licence number but have not been asked to insert it in the download. It was very complicated and time consuming downloading the programme can someone please help.

    What exactly happens when you try to launch Lightroom 5?
    Do you get any error message?
    Which operating system do you have?
    When you say "Lightroom was included in the package. I have managed to download Lightroom 5", where did you download it from? from Adobe website or you got a disc for it?

  • Need help please with a creative lab pc 350 3 in 1 cam

    I bought this cam almost 2 years ago. We had problems installing it and several others because they keep saying a file was missing. Finally one day I sat down and got it installed so it worked great could do everything with it. Then a year ago in January my system crashed. Had to go back to the very beginning, had the wrong software to restore to manufacturers specs. Took it to Gateway, they reinstalled the software but didn't give me a copy of it. Reinstalled the cam software more than once but cannot use the cam away from the pc. can do videos but no snapshots from the video. works as a webcam. anyone know why it won't work. It says err. in the window under the mode button on the back. would really like to fix it but think it would be cost prohibiti've. even took it to a friends house to install on his computer to see if it would work. It does the same thing there as on mine. By chance are there any new drivers that might resolve this problem. Hope to have an answer soon. Thanks for any help you can give me.

    How to reset and format the camera PC-Cam 880, PC-CAM 900
    To completely delete all images from your camera or format its internal memory when the camera is detached from a computer system:
    Power on the camera
    Press the Menu (Multi Selector button) to activate the Menu options

    Turn on the camera and then press the Snapshot button ( on the top, right hand side of camera) and the Operation Mode button simultaneously for more than two seconds. This deletes all files from the camera

I was not able to send an email due to the fact I tried to install it at a friends house and all the identifying information I needed is on the cam. I know they are in stillwell, ok so i may just have to write them a letter and wait for a response about sending it in to be repaired, unless i can find someone local who knows about this cam.

    i am in bahrain i was given the same answer by the team but when i chang my sim to Zain sevice provider an update downloded for my carrier now it shows 10.1 automaticly from itune when i synk and i could see facetime in my phone but from my batelco sim it was not showing... i think it is somthing to do with Carrier update fro apple it self...

  • Need help please with Adobe Flash

    Hi out there.  I'm not even sure if I'm in the right pilace!  First time I've tried this.  Anyway, all of a sudden when I opened the Kodak Gallery from an email someone sent me to see some photos, it would not open and the pop up said I needed to install Adobe Flash 10.1.  As far as I can tell I did.  It is appearing in my downloads, BUT oddly, there is nothing at the end of that line item syaing how much space it is taking, like all of the other programs have.  So perhaps it did not download even though it shows up as  program?  When I try to open anything in an in mail where the attachment needs Flash, it won't open and it keeps saying I need to download Flash 10.1, but I guess it is not downloading right.  My system is Visat 32 bit and I have not this problem with Flash until now, although I don't know that I've used it in ther last few weeks.  Anyone have any ideas?  Has something changed in the last few weeks?  Thanks.

    Shockwave Player - this is a very confusing concept!  Some websites claim that they require Flash Player, when in fact they require Shockwave Player.  When you install Flash Player, the browsers will identify it as "Shockwave Flash".  Both players originate from Macromedia, which has been acquired by Adobe a few years ago; this is why they are somehow related.
    For the average user as you and me, I just recommend that you have the latest of both players installed, and all should work ok.  The latest Shockwave Player version is 11.5 b.t.w.
    As for the forum and its features, best no to start a discussion - nobody is happy with it!  Also, due to spammers having placed innocent looking posts with hidden spam links in them, many of the text formatting features have been removed a short while ago.  It does make posting instructions more difficult.  If you wish to comment on it, you are welcome to do it at http://forums.adobe.com/community/general/forum_comments

    Have you tried deleting the mail account and adding it back again?

    I am new to PS and bought the CS6.
    I am using Wacom Intuos 5.
    I've recently encountered 2 problems regarding COLOR Swatches and brushes:
    1. whenever I chose a color - instead of adding it as Main color -(upper color) it puts it as a secondary one and I have to manually swap them.
    2. As from today - whenever I try to chose a color - while clicking on the color in the Swatches window - The 'garbage bin' is lit - and it won't let me select the color.

    Left mouse click selects foreground color
    ctrl or cmd left mouse click selects background color
    alt or opt left mouse click deletes a swatch color
    Left mouse click a blank area in the swatches will add a color
    When clicking a swatch the garbage bin should temporarily become active as you can drag that swatch to the can. But once you let go of the mouse button, the garbage can should be deactive.
    Knowing this, the wacom tablet can be set up to accept keyboard commands if necessary.
    The tip of the pen is suppose to be the same as the left mouse button and the side button is suppose to be the alt/cmd key and the right mouse button (It is a two way button)
    When you tap the tablet when the cursor is over the swatch, it should change the color for the foreground. If the bin is staying lit, it sounds like the tip is still depressed some.
    Does the swatch move when you move the pen?
    What version of photoshop do you have? It wasn't that long ago there was a bug with the swatches. You maybe seeing that bug. See if there are any updates to photoshop for you.

    I have just bought the Lenovo B540P and loved it, but last night when I clicked on the google icon the recovery come up then all OK. I have only had this two days, now this morning when trying to close it would not close and I could not get onto the task manager or anything, so I closed it as I have done with other systems with the on/off key, now I get nothing at all. I have tried as the user guide states when turning it on to keep pressing the F2 key but after ten minutes of doing this and nothing happening gave up. No error messages have come up at all - nothing. Any ideas anyone please before I have to ship it back to Amazon in the UK. If you have can you please explain in simple English as if it gets technical I go into panic mode and have a brain block:-) Thanks in advance for any advice anyone can give .

    Don't know if an old bald guy can help a blonde or not but ... :-)   When you first turn the power on describe what you see on the screen.  Is the screen black all the time, do you get a start up screen etc.  If this has a tv option does the tv work?  Is there a power indicator light?  Is it on?  Any info you can give will help.
