Need help with drive installation for K9N2 SLI Platinum

I am new to the forum and to MSI
This is my 6th computer build and first time using SATA and PCIe
My hardware includes:
• MSI K9N2 SLI Platinum Motherboard
• Corsair XMS2 TWIN2X4096-6400C5
• GeForce 9800 GT 512MB GDDR3
• AMD Phenom X4 9850 Quad Core Processor, Black Edition 2.5GHz
4MB Cache 2000MHz [4000 MT/s] FSB
• Thermaltake Ruby Orb Aluminum Core CPU Cooler
• UltraX3 850 Watt ATX Modular Power Supply
• [1] Western Digital 200MB7200 ATA133
• [1] Maxtor 80MB ATA133 Drive [Not connected yet]
• [1] Western Digital 500GB 7200RPM 16MB SATA II HARD DRIVE
• [2] Seagate 7200.11 ST3500320AS 500GB SATA Hard Drives With 32 MB Cache

The board set up fine, but I can’t figure out how to install my drives. The MSI directions are the worse I’ve ever seen, or should I say non-existent. They don’t even describe the bios entries… I am familiar with the bios, but don’t know all the settings for the board. I set the time and date and had to rearrange my drive placement on the board to have my 2 DVD drives show up on the secondary IDE Channel instead of the primary IDE. The Western Digital 200MB7200 ATA133 is on the primary master IDE. I’m old fashioned so I still use FDISK to erase the old OS and partition the drive… I couldn’t see my SATA drive in FDISK even though I could see it in the bios. Now I want my Western Digital 500GB 7200RPM 16MB SATA II HARD DRIVE to be the system drive and the Western Digital 200MB7200 ATA133 to be a slave drive. My previous boards had raid but I just used them as additional slave drives.
My goals: I want to have redundancy for my personal audio/video and my work. I will use the 2 Seagate 7200.11 ST3500320AS 500GB SATA drives for that.
I also want 2 additional drives not purchased yet for my other data storage needs and for games
My questions are:
Can I use the SATA drive as the system drive if a drive is connected to the primary IDE?
How do I set up Raid on this board? I actually want to use its capabilities this time.
Does this board present any special problems with dual booting XP sp2 and Vista 64bit.
If I put another set of Corsair XMS2 TWIN2X4096-6400C5 in anticipation of installing Vista 64bit will this cause a problem other than windows XP not seeing the additional memory.
Is there additional documentation for this board somewhere?
Please help…I have been working on this thing for 4 days straight. My last build took 2 hours not including software installation. Hope I stated everything you need to know. Thanks in advance

Advice no. 1 will be not to have everything connected at once. Have the chosen SATA and one of the DVD:s connected and install Windows. (Windows can only boot from bootable devices. It "jumps" all un-bootable.) Once you have a successful boot and happy with it, remove other things from the boot-sequence.
Eh, some of your questions suggest you don't have the full manual, but a multi-lingual one. Check this out, bottom of the list:

While installing Divi Cam 316 driver, (and after it is almost finished), a pop up message appeared which says "Copy Inf Fail"
I have no choice but to click "Ok"and when it says InstallShield Wizard Complete, I have to click "Finish"
I was not prompted to restart my computer so I connected the Divi Cam 316 to the USB cable provided.(I must mention that the USB slot was used before by Microtek Scanner

The Divi Cam is not detected!
I don't even see the Creative Divi Cam 316 in the programs,but it is in the Add or Remove Programs with size of 1.25MB.
Please help, how can I reinstall the driver with succes so my divicam will be detected

The quality of photo images (mostly JPG files) in printouts is awful even though the files display beautifully on the PC screen. I am using
IrfanView software for displaying/printing. As far as I can tell, IrfanView is not the problem.
When I print the same images on a Deskjet 5150 attached to a different PC also running XP Pro and IrfanView, the quality of the printouts is at
least acceptable, Some would probably say good or very good.
It's dificult to explain in words the problem with the printouts. A picture of really pretty vegetables (squashes, tomatoes, watermelon, etc) comes
out much too red. Moreover, the red, which appears shaded on the screen, seems to be all one shade in the D110a printouts.
Something similar happens to a view of a huge tree in full leaf. On screen, there are subtle variations in the "greenness" of the leaves. In the
printout, all green is the same shade. In the same printout, the trunk of the tree is all a single shade of grey. It isn;t even obvious that the
trunk is a round, solid object.
I liken the effect to audio that disappears entirely when you lower the volume and gets clipped into square waves in even moderately loud passages.
I don't know whether the D110a driver software permits adjusting the parameters that appear to be set incorrectly, and if adjustments are possible,
how I would identify which parameters to adjust, how I would access them, or how I would adjust them. I'm hoping that someone can help. Thanks.
I forgot to mention that I have used the diagnostic application and it tells me that there are no problems.

you can't define 2 interfaces the old way (even though I saw some tricky workaround somewhere in the forums).
Use, f.e., netcfg:
Comment your old lines.
In /etc/rc.conf insert:
NETWORKS=(Eth0-dhcp Eth1-static)
DAEMONS=(..... !network @net-profiles ....)
In /etc/network.d create 2 files:
First one is named Eth0-dhcp.
Contents:
CONNECTION="ethernet"
DESCRIPTION="Whatever text"
INTERFACE=eth0
HOSTNAME="your hostname"
IP="dhcp"
DHCP_TIMEOUT=15
Second one is named Eth1-static.
Contents:
CONNECTION='ethernet'
DESCRIPTION='whatver'

GATEWAY='192.168.0.1' # your gateway IP

The names Eth0-dhcp and Eth1-static are not magic. They just must be the same in rc.conf and in /etc/network.d.

When the program starts, it asks the user for his/her name and surname. I got the program to ask the user again and again for his/her name and surname
when he/she doesn't insert anything or just press 'enter', but if the user enters a number for the name and surname part, the program continues.
Now my question is this: How can I restrict the user to only enter 'letters' (and spaces of course) but allow NO numbers for his/her surname??

What you could do is checking the input string for numbers. If it contains numbers, just reprompt for the Name.
AND you might want to ask yourself why the heck a calculator needs to know the users Name. -

Need help with installing Windows for the bar exam
I need to retake the bar exam in Feb 2011 and I've decided to switch to typing. I am trying to figure out what Windows I need (the software says XP is fine but is that even available anymore)- so can someone walk me through this process? I've partioned my hard drive with the default 5GB but should it be more?
I'm looking at buying Windows- is XP okay or should I shell out for 7-i.e. is one more compatible with Macs?
And then finally, in the installation instructions they mention that I need my Mac OS disc for the process- is that the snow leopard disc or something else? My discs are in storage right now so should I wait until I get them before starting this process or can I get replacements if I accidentally threw them out in moving?
Sorry for all the questions, but well, I'm racing to get everything done and I want to make sure I don't crash my system halfway through the exam!You don't need Boot Camp, but even XP will have a lot of stuff to update from after the install, and that takes temp space. Just as your Mac shows 5-10GB there is add'l hidden space used.
Apple's 'requirements' has gotten others in trouble and I was pretty sure it was more like 10GB. Plus a lot of XP discs are now SP3.
XP out of the box but connected to the net is just waiting for malware, average is 15 minutes to be infected. 7 is better and just in case you need it again.
System Builder can come in 32 or 64-bit but XP is 32-bit only.
VirtualBox by Oracle is a free VM.
1GB for one program actually seems like a lot, or is that RAM requirement? -

Need help with new installation
Hi, I'm having trouble getting past the first step installing my AE with an existing Linksys wireless router.
I was able to connect via ethernet cable to Linksys box and got a steady green light.
I was able to see AE as availble, connected, wireless network via Windows network connections.
I was able to see AE as an availble base station in Aiport Assistant, but NOT able to get past the first step. Once selected - comes back and says not an available base station...and also NOT able to see AE via the Airport Admin utility...tried to rescan, but nothing appears in the list to configure. Any ideas?
Sorry if this is basic, but I'm a newbie.
Please let me know if any additional info is needed.

your Linksys router will provide an IP address like 192.168.x.x to your Airport Express BS when connected using a wire. Airport Admin and Airport Assistant will only scan for 10.0.x.x IP address (AE default setting is 10.0.0.1), that is why you can not set it up using AAU / assistant.
-> unplug your airport BS, reset it, configure it using AAU (Airport Admin Utility):
*internet tab: connect using "ethernet", configure "using DHCP"
Apply settings and plug ethernet cable back in to the airport express BS. Should be better

- a MAC access control can prevent your BS to connect properly, more info in your linksys router manual. check your linksys router settings (plug it in to your computer and connect to 192.168.1.1 to access your router settings)
- double check that "distribute IP address" is NOT ticked in the network tab of AAU
- can be usefull to change network name in network tab of AAU to the name of your existing linksys network

Need help with correction inscript for duplication on regular basis

I am using Oracle 10.2.0.4 on Win 2008 R2. We have Archive mode enabled and no rman catalog is used. I have a requirement where i have to duplicate prod sevrer on regular basis to development server.
I have created few batch files so that the entire process in automated. Stored all the scripts in c:\script\clone\ directory.+
I have taken the backup copy of password and spfile from prod server and copied to the development server in same location.
These are the scripts i run in order:
*1_clone.bat*
set ORACLE_SID=orcl
sqlplus / as sysdba @c:\script\clone\2_test.bat
*2_test.bat*
shutdown immediate
startup nomount
host rman target sys/oracle@live nocatalog auxiliary / @c:\script\clone\3_rman.rcv
*3_rman.rcv*
run {
allocate auxiliary channel d1 type disk;
duplicate target database to ORCL NOFILENAMECHECK;
exit
When the duplication process in about to finish, i get below error:

When i press exit, this window closes and i can run the alter database open resetlogs;+ command from a new sql prompt. I check online and some suggest there might be a window open with system user connected. Please suggest any changes in the script.

Having another session with system user will cause rman to throw this error. For example another session used to start up database in nomount mode still being active.
Duriing the cloning process the rman session needs to be exclusively connected to the auxiliary instance (no other session are allowed).

Not exactly iweb - need help with a graphic for my site
This doesn't fit anywhere so dumping it here. I drew by hand a graphic I want to use with iweb to put on my site as my site's logo. Main problem is that getting the background transparent isn't working well as when it was scanned the scanner didn't back the background "pure" white. I have tried adjusting the whitepoint and setting the color depth down, but still no good. I don't know a ton about graphic program use. I have an older copy of graphic converter that came on this powerbook when i got it. I would be fine having the graphic loose the marker look and have solid fill colors - just I am not good enough with computer drawing tools to do it on the computer! So I either need to get a volunteer to help me out, or some help with some detailed instructions to get this to work out... (also I am broke so no cost/shareware is only option here)

I have a cleaner copy now after someone suggested GIMP, so played with it last night - though couldn't figure out transparency - that was clear on converter- just not cooperative till these wonderful directions.
So now I know how to do it without messing with the pic, and with messing with it - both good lessons and got a bit brighter color out of the deal.

My new ssd (arriving in a couple of days) is a Plextor M5P which is 7mm thick! My Tecra R840-16J have a 9.5 mm thick hdd and for what I saw there is no caddy!

As far as I know some models are offered with HDD and some with SSD these models offered with SSD have small SSD holder. SSD is fixed with 4 screws into this holder.
I really dont know how to help you now. Maybe you should contact nearest Toshiba service provider and ask for help. I think they can check part number of this holder or maybe order one for you. -

I would like to build 100% Azure VM base solution. We can install as many as needed.
I have large amount data in DW. (100GB-1000GB)
I would like to provide PowerView reports in SharePoints.
I would like to have report data be as real time as possible. (Min data is updated once in 2 hours)
These are requirements:
-SharePoint 2013
-PowerView
-SSAS OLAP Cube
-SQL Server DW&Staging DB (Currently DW&Staging on same server)
I need help specially what can be done with SSAS to meet requirements? Should be installed to own application server? Possible to install multiple SSAS? SSRS needs own server?

SSRS (and Power View) will run in the SharePoint farm on a SharePoint app server potentially with other SharePoint services.
I would definitely put SSAS on a dedicated server for a cube that size. Depending on how well your data compresses, there may not be a VM in Azure with enough RAM to put your model into a Tabular SSAS model. I would prototype it with a subset of data to see
how well it compresses. You can always use a Multidimensional model as a fallback.
Depending on how much processing the SSAS model impacts user queries (since it is happening during the day) you could build an SSAS processing server and a separate SSAS query server and run the XMLA Synchronize command to copy the cube incrementally from processing
to query servers.
