  • Need help with Snow Leopard compatibility issue

We have a new iMac in (with Snow Leopard) and have loaded all our programs. Due to budgets, we have not made the jump to CS4 and are still on CS3 (waiting for 5). We work in an InDesign/InCopy workflow.
In launching InDesign on the MAc with Snow Leopard, we have noticed that the assignment folders are nonexistant and within the program you can't even open an assignment window. When you reopen on a system without Snow Leopard, the individual assignments are there, but the program states it can't find the main assignment, so it's cancelling out the assignments if opened on the Snow Leopard unit.
Does anyone have any info on compatibility issues with Indesign CS3 and Snow Leopard? My tech guy found nothing on this before we ordered the new system.

First things first. CS5 was announced today and preorders are being accepted.
I believe if you upgrade to CS4 you'll get a free copy of CS5. This is important because if you're upgrading a suite, tiered pricing makes CS3 to CS4 $200 less than waiting til CS5 comes out.
That out of the way, is everyone fully patched to CS3 5.0.4? Is Snow Leopard fully updated to 10.6.3? Do you have full read/write permission on the server?

  • Need help installing snow leopard on mac mini 10.5.8 intel based

I need help need help installing snow leopard on mac mini 10.5.8 intel based so if u kno how pls message me thanks

You need to purchase the upgrade disk (it is a DVD). Then just put it in and run the installer. When it was first released it was $29 USD, do not know if the price has changed or not.
The usual precautions about backing up your data apply. In fact I would recommend either making a Disk Image of your current boot drive or using something like Carbon Copy Cloner to copy it to an external drive. I upgraded 5 machines from Leopard to Snow Leopard without any issues, but better to be safe than sorry.

  • Need help installing Snow Leopard.

Need help installing Snow Leopard on a 2009 iMac. Hard drive is only choice for location and message says hard drive can't be used because it is used for Time Machine backups. Ultimate goal is to upgrade to OS 10.6.8.

Check to see if you have a file called backup.backupdb
If you do that means at some time in the past Time Machine was configure to backup to that drive
If that is not where you want your backup to to go, and it should not be stored there any way, then delete it and the install should work then.

  • Can iCloud be used with snow leopard on a Mac if you have an ipad2?

Can iCloud be used with a Mac that has been upgraded to it's full capacity with snow leopard if you are using it with an ipad2 and iPhone 4 ( with upgraded system)?

If you have joined iCloud on your iPad, this will be the situation on your Snow Leopard Mac:
You will be able to access email, calendar and contacts on the iCloud website at http://icloud.com provided your browser is reasonably up-to-date.
You will not be able to sync contacts or bookmarks from a pre-Lion Mac.
You will be able to enter the server settings for email manually in the Mail application and access your email. A pictorial instruction page on doing this is here.
You will not be able to sync your calendars directly.
Some people have been able to set up calendar syncing by using the method detailed here - this is an unsupported hack and may not be reliable, and may stop working at some future point. BusyCal is an iCal-like calendar application with extra facilities: it can sync with the iCloud Calendar while running on Leopard, Snow Leopard or Lion.
There appears to be no method of syncing contacts (though Address Book on a Mac can be synced with Google or Yahoo address books - I don't know how reliable this is)

  • Need help buying Snow Leopard.

Hi. I'm new to Apple in the sense of iPhone, iPad but only Windows on PC. Now, however, I want to swap over to Apple completely but the Apple site won't let me buy any OS's. Very confusing.

@mende1, that is 100% incorrect. I personally know someone who has a dual-boot sustem with Snow Leopard & Windows 7 on the same HDD so it is possible to do it. He's a professional DJ who uses Mac for work & Windows for games.
And call? I thought the who idea of online was so I didn't have to get stuck talking with an idiot who calls themselves a "Genius"?!

  • Help with snow leopard

Just installed Snow leopard and found a folder that said All Documents with over 9,000 documents in it. It looked like old stuff so I trashed it! And emptied the trash! When i went on today several folders were empty. Help!

You deleted a Smart Folder that would display All Documents. By doing so you have deleted all 9,000+ documents and related folders.
    General File Recovery
If you stop using the drive it's possible to recover deleted files that have not been overwritten by using recovery software such as MAC Data Recovery, Data Rescue II, File Salvage or TechTool Pro.  Each of the preceding come on bootable CDs to enable usage without risk of writing more data to the hard drive.  Two free alternatives are Disk Drill and TestDisk.  Look for them and demos at MacUpdate or CNET Downloads. Recovery software usually provide trial versions that enable you to determine if the software would help before actually paying for it. Beyond this or if the drive has completely failed, then you would need to send the drive to a recovery service which is very expensive.
The longer the hard drive remains in use and data are written to it, the greater the risk your deleted files will be overwritten.

  • Need help installing Snow Leopard without DVD drive

    Hi all,
I posted this question under MacBook Pro but didn't get much help.
I have a MacBook Pro running 10.4.11.  I bought the 10.6.3 Snow Leopard Install DVD from Apple but my DVD reader just keeps ejecting it, optical drive must have died.
My roomate has a Windows 7 laptop, and I see here that I can put my DVD into his DVD player, and remote it over our wireless and install it to my laptop.
I've run through the instructions but I can't see Remote Disc under the Mac's finder.
I found another article with similar instructions that included some console code.  I've made sure to run the following commands in my Mac console too but no luck:
defaults write com.apple.NetworkBrowser EnableODiskBrowsing -bool true
defaults write com.apple.NetworkBrowser ODSSupported -bool true
Is it possible to even do a remote install via one Windows 7 Laptop and my MacBook Pro with no optical drive?  Do I have some other kind of options to get this upgrade working?
Any and all help will be appreciated!

That's actally a pretty good and cost effective way to do it.  I see some from Walmart for like $30, and it's possible to refund them if it doesn't work.
    Thank you

  • Need Help Installing Snow Leopard onto a blank HD via Target Disk Mode

    Hey everyone.
Recently I had the HD on my Black Macbook crash due to a mechanical failure. I have just purchased a new Hard Drive for my Macbook. It is completely blank other than the fact that I connected it to my girlfriend's White Macbook earlier today to create 2 partitions. I have a new copy of Snow Leopard that I want to install on it and was hoping someone could guide me through the process.
What I have with me as of now is:
One Black Macbook (UK bought) w/ Partitioned Blank HD and a non-functional Superdrive
One White Macbook (US bought) running Tiger w/ working Superdrive that mounts the SL DVD
    FireWire Cable
    New Snow Leopard DVD
My first attempt at this failed. I connected the two Macs with the FW cable and started up the Black Macbook in Target Disk mode. Both my HD partitions showed up on the White Macbook. I inserted the SL DVD into the White Macbook and when it mounted I clicked on install. Of course, now it thinks that I want to install SL on the White Macbook whereas I want to install it on the Black Macbook.
I'm a college student without a working computer and with my finals coming up, I'm in deep trouble. I want to mention that my Black Macbook's Superdrive spits out _everything except for Movie DVDs and My Leopard Startup Disk._ It spins the SL DVD for a few seconds and spits it out as well. I'm wondering whether this might be an issue with the DVD region code on the SL DVD though I don't think that's it. My region code is currently set to Region 1 (US) where I purchased the Snow Leopard DVD off Amazon. I initially thought there was a problem with the DVD and CD lens in the drive and I bought a DVD/CD Lens Cleaner CD but I can't run it because the Superdrive spits that out too. I'm out of warranty on the Black Macbook so fixing the Superdrive is pretty much out of the question. I was under the impression that I would be able to install SL via Target Disk Mode without any hassles but boy was I ever so wrong.
Is there any way that I can do this? I'm hoping someone here can help me out. Please do if you find the time to.

By other computer, do you mean the White Macbook? So I should basically put the SL DVD in the White Macbook, restart with the C key held down? Is that right?
Please pardon me if I'm being stupid.

  • Need Help Installing Snow Leopard over Mountain Lion!!!!

Hey!!! I REALLY NEED SOME HELP!!! I had Mountain Lion installed on my Macbook Pro. I didnt like it and I wanted to downgrade to Snow leopard. I have the Install Disk with me. I went ahead and formatted my Macbook Pro. Now Im not sure what to do. Should I put the disk in?? And will it install?? And how should i install it??? All I can do as of now is boot into the Recovery HD.

    Hi.
I have the same problem with an iMac - everybody gives the same response and none of the them work. Why? Possibly because the iMacs come with bluetooth keyboards and by the time the bluetooth connection has been made, it's too far into the boot sequence for "holding down the C" or "holding Option whilst pressing R", etc. to have any effect.
(Oh yeah, I've tried connecting USB keyboards and they don't work either. - possibly because they are usually Windows and I don't know which keys map to which).
It's bad enough being told to press the "Option" key on an OSX keyboard when there isn't one - at least not on English keyboards. If the Yanks mean the "Alt" key, then they should say so.
I do not get the Installer Utilities options to enable me to clear the old operating system from my hard drive, because I can't find the key combination to force a boot from my DVD drive.
I also get a message that I can't run "the (Snow Leopard?) Installer" on the current software (Mountain Lion) in order to start the regression to Snow Leopard.
So, how do I trash my current system and start again? I suppose that I could always install Windows and then OSX over the top of it. Or take the disk out and start from scratch - but I've done that once and it's a bit boring.
P.S. I was the "Backup Man" at a computer installation, so " Make sure you save this...." goes without saying.
    Any different ideas guys?

  • Need Help Restoring Snow Leopard from Windows 7

Hello, My Kid Cousin Installed Windows 7 On My mac and formated/deleted everything from the hdd. Luckily i still have my timemachine backups on a external hdd. I was wondering how do i go about reinstalling Snow Leapord on My Mac Pro? I'm running Windows 7 on it now. Thank You

Insert the Snow Leopard install DVD into the DVD drive and reboot the system. Hold down the c key or the Option key and then select the DVD disc as the startup option or with the C key it should boot to the DVD Snow Leopard Install disc. Repartition the drive using Disk Utility as One partition with a format of Mac Extended (Journlaed) with a partition table of GUID and name the drive Macintosh HD. Then click Apply. After that is done exit DU and select Retore from Time Machine Backup (Have the TM drive connected before you Reboot the system) after a period of time SL and all your stuff will be restored.

  • Help with Snow Leopard "Re" Install on Macbook Pro

I have a 2010 Macbook Pro.  Upgraded to Lion.  No problem.  Last week, things got a little glitchy.  A long download for iPhoto (among other things) would not work.  I thought, why not upgrade to Mountain Lion.  I purchase.  Download... yet its not working, download corrupted.  Tried again and again.  Nothing.  Tried to search some possible solutions, made it worse.  System acted weird.  Thought I should restart.  Turned off.  Would not start.  Attempted safe mode start, bar goth 30% across screen, off.  Put old Snow Leopard install CD in, booted from that.  Started.  Can't revert, but previously backed up important files, so I erase Mac HD.  Pain in butt, but at least I'll start fresh, so I think.  Every time I go to install from CD, it gets to the same 33 minutes to go and then and error happens saying it can't install the necessary support files.  ???  What is going on?  I'm prepared to scrap and replace the physical hard drive (not the first time, had a similar problem on my still going strong Mac Mini from years earlier.  I just want to know if I'm doing something wrong, am I erasing wrong?
Suggestions appreciated greatly.  I just want my laptop to work again!

    Well, you have a mess.
    Connect the Apple 10.6.3 DVD.
Reboot MBP with option key held down.
    Choose SnowLeopard DVD
When DVD boots into install, choose Disk Utility from main menu
Choose the MBP drive in Disk Utility
Partition, 1 partition, option GUID, HFS Plus, Journaled
In Disk Utility FIrst Aid, Verify the Drive
Exit Disk Utility, but not installer
Start the Install from the Snow Leopard DVD
On reboot, follow additional setup procedures.
Choose Software Update, to get 10.6.8 updater and other files.
    Go get coffee.
When updates are done, backup your MBP with TimeMachine.
    Done.

    Back up all data.
Launch the Keychain Access application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Keychain Access in the icon grid.
Select the login keychain from the list on the left side of the Keychain Access window. If your default keychain has a different name, select that.
If the lock icon in the top left corner of the window shows that the keychain is locked, click to unlock it. You'll be prompted for the keychain password, which is the same as your login password, unless you've changed it.
Right-click or control-click the login entry in the list. From the menu that pops up, select Change Settings for Keychain "login". In the sheet that opens, uncheck both boxes, if not already unchecked.
    From the menu bar, select
Keychain Access ▹ Preferences ▹ First Aid
If the box marked Keep login keychain unlocked is not checked, check it.
    Select
Keychain Access ▹ Keychain First Aid
from the menu bar and repair the keychain. Quit Keychain Access.

it keeps saying error and unable to install on this mac

There's your problem then. You can't use a disc from another model of Mac - they're specific to each model.
You'll need to buy the Snow Leopard retail disc from the online Apple Store. It's the only one that will work.

  • Need help removing Snow Leopard and Installing Leopard

Snow Leopard was a waste of time and money. Time I could have used for much more productive work.
How can I remove snow leopard and reinstall leopard. I have the installation disc for Leopard. Can I simply install it over the top of snow leopard?
That would solve my problem for one machine (the iMac) but how do I go back to leopard if I don't have the disk? I suppose there is dmg somewhere but I haven't looked so I apologize in advance if the answer is obvious.

    Insert leopard install disk-select install.
It will wipe the drive and install Leopard-all data will be gone.
You must have a legitimate, legal copy of leopard.
If you backed up the leopard dvd, you would have to burn it or figure a way to do a network install.
