Need more storage for music/photo/dv film
I own a MacBookPro, AirPort Time Capsule and PC/laptops with windows xp and 7/8. We all share a printer using the TimeCapsule. But; I need ekstra storage for my pictures and our music. (all stored in my Mac) I would love to move our CD collection and DVD colletion too - but that is not the main issue. I need space to save all my pictures and video/films. I have read you could use parts of the TimeCapsule as an external harddisk but it is not recommended. I do use backup elsewhere as well - JottaCloud - but would like to keep it stored inhouse - for easy access when I have the time to edit pictures and make imovies ie. But what kind of external harddisk should I get?? Please advice.

Two things. Apple lossless files are huge in comparison to compressed files such as mp3 or aac. You should convert those lossless files to either mp3 or aac at a bit rate of (say) 160kbps. This will reduce the amount of space used on your computer. Once you've done this, delete the lossless files.
VBR mp3 isn't a hard drive, it's a compression format, and VBR means variable bit rate.

Any movies or TV shows transferred from your iTunes library take up quite a bit of storage space and can be re-transferred after the update has been installed. If your iPhone's Camera Roll includes a lot of photos/videos, import those with your computer followed by deleting from the Camera Roll after the import process is complete. The imported photos/videos can be transferred back to your iPhone via the iTunes sync process after the update has been installed.
Delete apps rarely if ever used which can be reinstalled after the update has been installed. -

Can anyone recommend any? ThanksIf you need to offload photos as you have too many, the best way is to plug the iPad into you computer running Mac OSX and dump them into iphoto.
If you want to use something by wireless, without a computer then any network connected hard disk will work much the same. You cannot use file storage directly anyway.. you need to load a file app to start with.
I think use whichever works out the cheaper for you.
Do note the TC is really not designed to do this job and if you already use the TC for Time Machine it is messy loading files onto it. This is apparently a new purchase so you are not using the TC at all..
The TC lacks a method to back itself up.. And this is one of its great weaknesses.. if the TC fails.. and they all fail at some point. How are you going to recover those photos?? From iPad you will not have the tools needed to do backups of the TC to another location.
I have no idea if the seagate has built in proper backup but I would find out. -

In order to install IOS7 on my 4S, I need more storage of 3.1GB and presently have only 1.3 GB. My biggest usage is the camera roll at 9.8GB. Photo stream is at 584 MB. My question is -should I delete the camera roll pics? They are saved on my computer.
At 1.3GB available, your storage space is getting very thin no matter what you do further. As long as you have the photo's in the camera roll saved on your computer you can delete them. Just make sure first that they are in your photo software. If updating in iTunes, just backup/sync first, then update, and that will save the camera roll in the backup as well.
At only 1.3GB you eventually are going to find yourself unable to install or update some app, or unable to take any new pictures, or some other limitation that will force you to free up space anyway. So now, before updating, sounds like a good time to make sure everything is backed up or stored somewhere else, and clean house a bit, then update. -
I was given a 16Gb ipad mini retina with cellular but I need more storage. We do not have the receipt as it is a gift. I like to swap for a 64Gb unit and pay for the difference, how do I go about doing that? I have not open the packaging yet.

Thanks for that. Yes, the ipad was purchased recently. I called Apple last Friday and they ask for the receipt. I wonder if anyone were able to swap their ipad for a larger storage in the past at the apple store without a receipt? 16Gb is such a small storage. -
How can I connect my iCloud free 5 gig storage to the $25.00 additional storage I purchased from Apple for 25,000 songs? I received messages stating I have used nearly all of my free storage. Are they dfferent storages? I only have one apple id.
Are you sure you didn't buy iTunes Match and not additional storage? I ask because of the 25,000 songs is a specific detail. Try this link and see if it rings any bells (http://www.apple.com/ca/itunes/itunes-match/) I have Match and I love it but one thing it doesn't do is give you more general storage, just access to all your music. If you only wanted the storage for music you will be fine with Match, if you are still needing storage may want to go through your device settings and turn off some apps from your back up to gain more space (Settings>iCloud>Storage and Backup>Manage Storage). Failing that, you may want to contact Apple and let them know you wanted the Storage bump, not iTunes Match.

If you mean you purchased more iCloud storage, that doesn't expand the amount of storage on your iPhone. iCloud storage only gives you more room for backups, documents, photo sharing, etc. You will still need to remove things from your iPad to give you enough room for the update. You'll need less room if you update via iTunes on your computer than if you update directly on the iPad.
BTW, you posted in the iPod touch forum. For many issues the answers will be the same, but it's usually best to post in the correct forum for your product so that there is no misunderstanding.

Ok and thank you. I did delete a LOT of photos and moved all my music just into my icloud and got rid of apps - really cut it down. i tried deleting music from my library and it won't let me and I have this update thing and I'm not sure what to do.

Why did the recent update to ios 7.0.4 use up all my storage (over 9 GB)? I have no storage for music and apps. There is over 9GB designated to "other" under usage now. I only have 16 GB total.
Text, the best way is to take screen shots, or if you can forward them to your email. Your notes are either saved by your email or with icoud. They can help you find out where they are saved at.
The resest is easy. I would say it best to also save your photos on your computer as well as a extra back up so you can also see them. Depending if you have Mac use Iphoto and import all photos, Windows use I am drawing a blank, but you can go to your start menue and then your phone will show up as a removable device and then left click and transfer photos and videos.
After that you will be set. But it will take a bit to get all of your text taken care of thought.
Also if you have non-programed email address like Roadrunner ect. You will need the incomming and out going server information SMTP ect. -

Device settings (for example: Phone Favorites, Wallpaper, and Mail, Contacts, Calendar accounts)
App data
Home screen and app organization
Messages (iMessage, SMS, and MMS)
Ringtones
Visual Voicemails
documents (like pages, numbers or keynote files)
and your local device storage for apps, music files, tv shows, photos and other media types.
Check your iCloud storage: "Settings > iCloud > Storage & Backups > Manage Storage" to see what you have currently stored on iCloud.
Check your device storage: "Settings > General > About > Available" to see if you still have capacity to store install more apps etc. on your device. -
I can not back up my iPhone. It says I need more storage space. I purchased more space and icloud says it is there, but the phone is not recognizing this and continues to say that I need to purchase more space in order to back it up. Any ideas?
Close your iTunes,
Go to command Prompt -
(Win 7/Vista) - START/ALL PROGRAMS/ACCESSORIES, right mouse click "Command Prompt", choose "Run as Administrator".
(Win XP SP2 & above) - START/ALL PROGRAMS/ACCESSORIES/Command Prompt
In the "Command Prompt" screen, type in
netsh winsock reset
Hit "ENTER" key
Restart your computer.
If you do get a prompt after restart windows to remap LSP, just click NO.
Now launch your iTunes and see if it is working now.
If you are still having these type of problems after trying the winsock reset, refer to this article to identify which software in your system is inserting LSP:
