Need picture style control for photo and video wit...

Lumia 1020 stands for its excellent phone camera. But I am very disappointed with its JPG output. The whitle balance is always a big problem, then too much contrast and oversaturation. True, the photo is crystal sharp, but who needs a bad color photo with great sharpness?
After Lumia Black, the DNG format comes. Now I cannot shoot without it. So I just find the 1020 is really great, but the built-in processing destorys all.
I don't know about other phone camera, but just look at the iphone's. Thanks to its great overall JPG output quality, keep much more details, so people love to use post-fx apps in their phone to make good-looking photos. Then 1020 for me, I just have to live with the DNGs instead of easy sharing.
808 Pureview has all the picture style control funtion, even in video !!  Down the contrast sharpness and saturation, then the semi-CineStyle is coming! Look at the 1020's video sample, it is a shame.
All I want to say is: Can you (I don't know to call Nokia or Microsoft) make some control opitions like 808 or just low down the over contrast/saturation/sharpness photo and video. I don't wanna see a such amazing sensor and lens camera like this terrible.

In very general terms, the requirements for Video will exceed those for Photoshop (PS). If you are looking at PrPro CS5, then the video card WILL make a difference, and PS CS5 now takes advantage of the video card, than before.
For PS, the minimum HDD setup would be a 2x system with physical (not partitions) HDD's. Video has more requirements in this area, and I would say that a 3x setup is the minimum. Do read Harm's linked article, as it is the best that I have ever run across.
For the PS setup, just locate the Scratch Disks for PS on your extra HDD's, the ones with your Project and PrPro Scratch Disks.
Enjoy the new computer, and welcome to the forum,

  • Need advice on computer for photo and video editing

I do mostly routine stuff on my home computer (word processing, e-mails, internet, etc), except for photo and video editing (hobby, not professional)
I'm upgrading my 4 year old set up, as it has 2 GB ram, dual core vs quad core, 256mb video card, etc, etc.  Better to buy a new rig than upgrade several different components.
Costco has a pretty nice set up in the store (HPE 257 c-b), but for an extra $200, I can order online and get the HPE 170t, which is essentially the same except for 2 upgrades:
-Radeon HD 5770 video card vs Radeon HD 5570
-Two 1 TB 7200 hard drives vs one 1 TB 7200 hard drive
My question is this.....is it worth the extra $200 to get the better graphics card and the dual hard drive set up?  Will it really make that much of a difference in the performance?  I'm thinking it will, especially the ability to set up the 2nd hard drive as my scratch disk.
For what it's worth, both systems have the i7 860, 8 GB ram, and Windows Home Premium 64 bit.
    Thanks.

Looking for a back up drive for photos and videos that works with time machine, prefer wireless. Time capsule has poor reviews and already have BT hub that serves as a good router. 3gb or 4gb capacity preferred but 2 would suffice.

Plug a NAS into the BT Hub that does TM. Look at Synology.
You just use the wireless of the hub.
But the cheapest solution is still the TC.

  • I need help on back up and more storage for photos and videos.  I have a imac (500g) that I back up to a 500g hard drive using time machine.  How do I set up a larger hd and back that up as well?

I can buy a 1T hd to store photos and videos to, but would need a second one to back that up as well?  I guess I need to know how to get aperture and iphoto to keep my photos on a larger drive and how to keep both the imac and that larger hd backed up.  Note- we can't get  DSL, so off site back up isn't a viable option.

  • Can I not buy one plan for Photo AND Video editing? (i.e. Photosop/Lightroom and Premiere Pro/After Effects)

I need photo and video editing...but obviously don't want to pay for 2 separate plans. Also, it looks like with the single app plan you couldn't even get Premiere/After Effects (for instance) together for $20 a month, just one or the other? I've searched around the website but could use some additional clarification please. Thanks,

  • Rsync used STRICTLY for "photos and video" library back-up

    Hi,
I'm hoping to get some guidance from some experienced users of rsync.
I'm new to rsync, but have been learning about it.   I'm also new to Terminal.
.....**For full system back-ups, I use CCC (Carbon Copy Cloner)....clean and simple.**
However, for my large "photo & video library" (over 1 TB on an external drive), I found that CCC, while essentially doing the same as rsync, seems to take MUCH longer.  Rsync, on the other hand, is very fast.
This leads me to FIVE questions.
Q1:  Is this because CCC (which uses the rsync command, albeit modified), is doing a check-sum or sometime else behind the scenes?
Also, looking through the various command lines that other contributors have suggested when using rsync, I am a little confused as to which optional commands are necessary for a PURELY "photo and video" library.
For the optional commands, I think the ones that are a MUST for me are:
-a  - "archive" rsync, includes ownership info and extended attributes extremely useful for moving large volumes of data and keeping AD/OD/POSIX permissions intact
-v - "verbose" gives the user more information on the rsync display
-x - prevents crossing filesystem boundaries
    -t   - preserves modified time
    --delete
This tells rsync to delete any files on the receiving side that aren't on the sending side. Files that are excluded from transfer are excluded from being deleted
....Optionally, I could add the following to view the progress:
    --stats
This tells rsync to print a verbose set of statistics on the file transfer, allowing you to tell how effective the rsync algorithm is for your data.
Q2:  Is there anything else I should be adding?
Q3:  Also, I saw that one contributor used "bash" at the start of the command line.  Is this necessary for my specific purpose?
Q4:  Snow Leopard comes with rsync version 2.6.9 version 29.   I know that version 3.1.0 is already out, but this would require an installation step (possibly using come Terminal commands, or something like "MacPort"), then adding patches, and perhaps some steps that I haven't mentioned.  Is version 3.1.0 really necessary, and in what way?  Much faster?  Better Integrity of the back-up?  Other?  (o.k., that was more than one question)
Q5:  Is there a command to preserve the "CREATED" time of the photo?  Is this taken care of by the " -a " or the " -t "?
    Thanks,
    Sam

    Hi Tony,
    Thanks for your quick reply.
    A few other questions:
    1.     What is the -N command for?  I could not see it on the rsync.samba.org website.
    2.     My friend does not have CCC.  She's also using Snow Leopard 10.6.8.  What are the steps to properly install the newest version of rsync?
    3.    For myself, what would be the disadvantage of using CCC directly rather than accessing it via Terminal?  When running CCC, what are the default commands being used?
    Thanks,

    Hi Tony,
    Thanks for your quick reply.
    A few other questions:
    1.     What is the -N command for?  I could not see it on the rsync.samba.org website.
That's added with the crtimes patch:
-N, --crtimes               preserve create times (newness)
    2.     My friend does not have CCC.  She's also using Snow Leopard 10.6.8.  What are the steps to properly install the newest version of rsync?
    Here's what I do:
    1. Download and unarchive rsync and its patches
        a. Move patches directory to rsync-3.1.0
        b. cd rsync-3.1.0
    2. Apply patches relevant to preserving Mac OS X metadata
           patch -p1 <patches/fileflags.diff
           patch -p1 <patches/crtimes.diff
    3. Apply patch relevant to preserving Mac OS X hfs+compression
          patch -p1 <patches/hfs-compression.diff
    4. Configure, make, install
            ./prepare-source
            ./configure
            make
            sudo make install
    5. Verify your installation
          rsync --version
By default, rsync will be installed in /usr/local/bin.
If that isn't in your path, you will need to call
your new version of rsync by its absolute
path in /usr/local/bin (you will most likely need to do this
and --version will verify that you have the right version)
(from: Configuring Mac OS X for Unattended Backup Using rsync and updated for hfs+compression patch)
    3.    For myself, what would be the disadvantage of using CCC directly rather than accessing it via Terminal?  When running CCC, what are the default commands being used?
No disadvantages that I'm aware of.
I'm not sure what defaults that Mike is using now, but most of the the flags that I use and posted are from the link above from Mike a few years ago.

  • Displaying File Name for Photo and Video Clips in Premiere Elements 10

I am using Premier Elements 10 on a Windows 7 Pro desktop computer to create
a project consisting of 128 jpg photo and mp4 video clips.  Before creating
the project I created a short file name for each clip describing its
content.  I've added menu tags at locations which separate the project into
discrete segments.  I've selected a disc menu which utilizes the menu tags I
created.  I previewed the project and I'm satisfied that the DVD disc I
intend to create will display everything I want except for one thing.  I
have spent several hours trying to find out how to have each displayed clip
include the file name (without extension) somewhere near the edge of each
window as it is opened in the finished production.  I sure would appreciate
some help with the steps needed to accomplish this.

    Welcome to the forum.
This can most easily be accomplished by adding a Title (maybe from a Lower-Thirds Title Template), above each Clip/Still Image.
I would create one such Title, and manually add the "File Name" in the location desired. Then, place that on a higher Video Track, above the Clip/Still. Then, just use the Duplicate Title function, to create a new Title, with the Text and Style, per the first - edit the Text for each, as required.
I know of no automated method to grab the Clip's/Still's File Name, and add that to a Title, as PrE does not support any scripting.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • HT4859 5GB worth of storage for photos and videos in the camera roll

Why does Apple keep saying this when they know that videos from the camera roll cannot be uploaded to the cloud??

Oh okay, now I get it. I'm just getting used to this whole cloud thing and I thought they were the same thing. But one is back-up to keep it safe and one is to send the photo stream to the cloud and to share.
Thanks for your help, but I'll ask you also if you know of a way to save photo stream videos to the cloud??

  • MacBook Pro (Oct 2013) i5 vs i7 for photo and video editing.

I am contemplating the upgrade to the i7 on a 13 inch rMBP. I travel frequently which is why I'd like to go with the smaller rMBP. I use the computer mainly for editing photos in Lightroom and Photoshop as well as the occasional video in Final Cut Pro. I also run some music applications like Ableton Live.
I will upgrade the RAM to 16GB, but I am not sure the upgrade from the i5 to i7 is worth it. Any feedback links to comparing benchmarks are highly appreciated.
    Thanks!

    LillstreetJoe, Greetings;
Examine the impact of  SSD and RAM  on Photoshop processing:
Note that as soon as you have SSD storage, RAM no longer has as great an impact as compared with a conventional HDD.
Both CPUs will process that data. One will be faster than the other buy perhaps 8% - 16% assuming both CPUs are driven to maximum limits.  I doubt that there is any meaningful difference in the longevity of the respective CPUs, but that is just a guess.
    Ciao,

  • I have made the switch to MAC from PC and I use Sony cameras/video recorders. I used the Sony PMB program to store all photos and videos. Now I need to transfer my photos and videos over to my MAC and I do not know how to do this as PMB is not supported

I need to transfer all my photos and videos from my old PC stored in the SONY PMB program to my new fabulous MAC desktop. I do not know how I can do this. Plus for future photos/videos, how can I upload them from Sony products ?
    Please help me
PS I just purchased the computer yesterday so it has the most current operating system

The Apple Support Communities are an international user to user technical support forum. As a man from Mexico, Spanish is my native tongue. When offering advice in the ASC, my comments are not meant to be anything more than helpful and certainly not to be taken as insults.
Do you know where the actual photo files are located on your laptop? If so, you can transfer them to the Mac over a LAN or by saving them to an external HDD, thumb drive or burning them to a disk. Then you can import the photos to the iPhoto app that came on your new Mac.
It would be the same process for the videos, however, it would depend what type of video files they are, as to which Mac app might allow you to view them.
BTW, since your Mac is new you need to Accept the iLife apps; iPhoto, GarageBand and iMovie into your Mac App Store/iTunes account. Open the MAS, sign into you account, go to the Purchased pane and accept the apps.

  • If I use time machine to back up my computer do I still need to backup my photos and videos separately?

If I use time machine to back up my computer do I still need to back up my photos and videos or is it already done?
    Thx!

Time Machine backs up everything except the things you tell it to skip.
But what happens if there is a problem with your drive AND there is a different problem with Time Machine's drive?

  • How do I get my iPod touch to import all my photos and videos to my Windows 7? I connect it and it comes up saying there are no photos or videos to download to computer, PLEASE HELP!

Hi, im having trouble with my iPod 4th generation. I connect my USB into the right hole and my computer accepts it at first to start looking for photos and videos then, a message comes up saying there are no photos and videos on my iPod. I have been searching how to connect it and I cant find the answer Im looking for. I have a Windows 7 computer and my iPod is a 4th generation. I am not very technical so dont try and use software i dont know.
    ~Thank you!

How did the photos get on the iPod?
If they are not in the iPod's Camera Roll album (e.g., synced to the iPod), you need a third-party program like TouchCopy or PhoneView

  • I have imported all photos and videos from my iPhone 5S into Aperture ver.3.4.5 and now cannot find them. I thought I could open a panel showing all imports and merely list them chronologically, but I don't see how to do this.

I have imported all photos and videos from my iPhone 5S into Aperture ver.3.4.5 and now cannot find them. I thought I could open a panel showing all imports and merely list them chronologically, but I don't see how to do this.  There are over 1800 photos and about 100 videos, any help to locate where they've gone would be appreciated.

Try to search with a Smart Album for photos and videos taken with an iPhone:
File > New > Smart Album:
Add an EXIF rule fro the "Add Rule" drop down menu: EXIF
and set it to "Camera Model includes iPhone".
Set the scope of the search to "Library"
If there are any iPhone images or videos in your library at all, this search should find them.  Then ctrl-click any of the items and select "Show in Project" from the contextual menu.
Generally, Aperture should be showing your last import in the "Last Import" smart album in the "recent" section". And the "projects" view can be sorted by date, so you should see your recent imports.
You may want to check all search fields, if searches are active.
