Need to backup and restore because i forgot my password.  but I get a message saying i have to turn of Find My iPhone first.  but i can't--i forgot my passcode

I forgot my passcode, so I think I need to restore and then load my backup.
But iTunes on my Mac tells me I have to disable Find My iPhone first
Of course, I cannot, because I cannot get in since I forgot my passcode.
IPhone 4S, iOS 7.1.2

You can remote erase your phone using iCloud from any computer that can connect to the internet.  You do have to know your Apple ID password though.
