Need to develop a help system

I need to develop a help system for a Client-Server Oracle Form Application.
Can any one suggest any good packages to develop Help system?
Does any one tried Oracle Help for Java (OHJ)?
Please let me know your recommendations and opinions, thanks.

Two methods.
One generate a HTML file and use the Web.Show_Document to display the help file.
Two use shareware like 'Help Workshop' which can be found at www.cnet.com.

    Need to use a scrollable resultset and depending on the need to have a stateful connection or a stateless connection you may need to query the table for every request(for stateless connection) and use the same result set for(stateful connection). and depending on the no of records in a page and the page no do some simple arithmetic and move the resultset.   • Winhelp Help system and Java

    Hello,
    Of the several products we develop, one, a Java program, uses the Java Help help system (logically). The others use a standard Winhelp help system (developed in Robohelp). Our current workflow for developing a help system for the Java program is to batch convert the Winhelp RTF files into HTML files. The problem is, most of our Winhelp formatting is either dropped or incorrectly represented in the Java help file. Also, I prefer the look and feel of a Winhelp system over Java.
    Is it possible for a Java program to be modified so that it supports a Winhelp help system and not a Java Help system? If so, how is this done, and where can one find information on the process?
    If not, what options do we have to "pretty up" the Java output from the conversion?

    I wrote an article for Adobe's Developer Network which you may find helpful on how to implement context sensitive help with a web application using the WebHelp API. It was written for an older version of RoboHelp, but the concepts are virtually the same.

    I am trying the Circuit Design Suite 13.0 and the help system doesn't work at all.
    No help from
    The main menu Help -> Multisim help F1
    In all the dialogs with a Help button. Nothing happen if I click the Help button ?
    I use Windows XP SP3 FRENCH and all the installtion went without any problems everything else is working perfectly.
    I checked in the install program if I need to install the help system separately and didn't see anything.
    Any ideas of what's goint on ?

    Are you able to manually open the help file?  Go to C:\Porgram files\National Instruments\Circuit Design Suite 13, the Multisim.chm file is the help file, double click on it and see if it will launch.  If you the file opens and nothing is displayed, google 'unable to open .chm" file, there are lots of instructions how to fix it, here is an example:

  • Expanding and modifying past help system

    I need to take a help system that was compiled in 2004 and
    modify and add to it. Would it be best to import the project and
    create a new one, or to open the old one as an existing project and
    add to it? I have been trying to make it work by opening the old
    one and adding to it, but when I go to compile, many of the links
    from the TOC are broken and I can't figure out how to fix them. On
    the other hand, if I import the files into a new project, I lose
    the existing TOC and all of the images. I'm trying to avoid having
    to start over. I was working with Robohelp 6, but just got the
    upgrade to 7 today. This did not seem to make any difference to
    these issues. Any help would be most appreciated!

    Hello - thanks for your response. The TOC links are only
    broken after I compile. I was using Robohelp 6 and just got the
    upgrade to 7 this week. The really odd thing is that in 6, after I
    compile, they are missing in the final file AND they show up broken
    in the Project Manager. In 7, they are missing in the final file,
    but they don't appear to be broken in the Project Manager. In both
    cases, it is not all of the links, just some of them (maybe 30%),
    and I cannot figure out how to restore them. Since I think I have
    your attention here, I have been looking for other clues, and I
    think I just figured something else out: the Topic ID's for the
    broken or missing ones all begin with REF. The non-broken ones
    begin with PRO or where I have added new ones, neither REF or PRO.
    Thanks for any light you may be able to shed! (BTW, in case
    it is not completely obvious, I am a new Robohelp user.)

    When a user submits an ID they have to choose who sold the product from the sold by field.This has to be chosen correctly otherwise there will be issues in sales and commission process.I need to develop a report to detect immediately when an Id is created which seems to be suspect.A suspect ID is one in which a salesperson was chosen on a customer who is not assigned to that sales person territory
    for example: if danny is in Kathy territory is assigned to a customer in Texas which is Larry territory.

    You ask for help, yet all you give is conceptual data. How do you expect help on writing the report?
    Q) What defines "territory"? Is it a flag? Zip code? City?
    Here is an answer based on a lot of assumptions:
    I would have to assume that territory is defined by something like city, state, or zip code. If so, you could start with this:
    When a customer submits an ID, along with who he/she selects as a salesperson -- I assume this is a drop down box to eliminate multiple entries of the same person due to variations in spelling -- thep person's address, city, state and zip are included as well. Let's assume that territory is defined by zip code. With the salesperson's name and the zip of the customer captured, you have the basis for comparison.
    Based on the table of all your salespeople and their territory (zip code in my assumption), you can create a report that contains a concatenated field of salesperson||zip code. This will produce a report with all possible combinations of salesperson and territory. This report will be your sub-query.
    Now you have your main query based on the customer activity table and you create a concatenated field of salesperson (chosen-by-customer)||zip code (of the customer). You will put a filter on this concatenated column and have it based on the results of another request (your sub-query) with the operand "not equal to/not in."
    If any record in the main query does not match an entry from the sub-query, that record will display. It will be a report that contains customers who chose a sales person who doesn't have that territory.
    That's how you build your report.

    That means it can find the Hard Drive, or can't find the things needed for booting.
    See if DU even sees it.

    1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu at top of the screen. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
    *Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.*
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    5. Click Repair Disk, (not Repair Permissions). Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."

    Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
    (Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.)

    When I turn on the system I hear a loud squeaking noise that could be coming from the hard drive, it does it for moment then a blank white screen appears w/ a tiny folder in the middle of the screen with a "?" blinking on and off on the folder.     Yes, it sounds like your hard drive is bad. Do you have access to techtools or Disk Warrior? either of these may be able to repair the drive enough to extract your info from it, if disk utility can't.
    I know that there are shops that specialize in extracting info from bad hard drives, but they tend to be pretty expensive. I am sure others on this forum will be able to help you find one if you are interested.

    I want to appear for "SAP Certified Development Professional - ABAP System Interfaces with SAP NetWeaver 7.0". I have about 3 and half years or experience in SAP ABAP. And I plan to give this certificate exam in the coming 6 months.
    Could you please tell me how i apply for this exam, and whether SAP provides the certificate material for the exam "P_ABAP_SI_70". Waiting for a positive reply.

    hi,
    actually you can find your sid on your certificate itself ... your sid will start with SXX .. ok now along with this you will receive an envelope in which there would be an letter where detalis regarding your sid and password for login access in sap market place will be stated... so you can login with that in server market place.... usually you get this along with the certificate and is being provided by the centres authority...   now if you have not received it so you need to contact your centre and tell them to give it to you... if they dont barged then you can ask them for the concern guy's email .... this guy is the one who receives all the documents relating with your certificate .. now this guy is someone from sap labs banglore ...  also if you have not received your id card so you can mail him or tell your centre authority in that case now usually the centre guys take the matters lightly ...
    ok and as far as your certification exams goes i did search the pearson website they really dont have that professional certification for the abap guys but they do have one for functionals and some other....
    ok now you need to approach yout nearest certification centre in that case and simply ask them that you need to appear for level 2 certification also you can contact the sap labs banglore in that case but i know that they are not responding .....
    so in that matter you tell your centre that you need to schedule the certification they will charge you the certification amount and then will  schedule the date..... yes they can do that.

    Development Server SID is DEV ( Dev Client 100 and Quality Client 140) and Production Server SID is PRD
    Transport route must be configured like below:

    Hi Pratyusha,
    As far as configuring Development and Quality systems concern, in one system is not suggested. I think you are aware of this.
    However, I need some more information on your question like the operating systems which you are using in DEV/QAS and in PRD.
    First, configure the Domain Controller in either DEV/QAS or PRD.
    Irrespective of the OS, you need to maintain IP address along with the host name and fully qualified domain in the etc/hosts file.
    for example DEV/QAS system ip address is 172.16.23.14 and host name is abc007, then you need to make an entry in etc/hosts file at the OS level as follows.
    172.16.23.14 abc007 abc007.yourcompany.com
    where in abc007.yourcompany.com is the fully qualified domain name.
    Once you done this in both, DEV/QAS and PRD, systems, then configure 3 system landscape from STMS tcode in the other system which is not a Domain controller.

  • Creating "help" systems for users (not other LV programmers) - where to start?

    How should one approach giving users a built-in "Help" system?  Users, that is, of a distributed application written in LabVIEW.
    These users ideally would have no way of knowing the application was written in LabVIEW.  To them, this application is just another program.  The way the LabVIEW Help system works would be fine, but all the content would be inappropriate.
    From the docs I see we can write "Descriptions" that show up in context-sensitive help when the user puts the mouse over a control, and a "Tip" that shows up when the context-sensitive help isn't even enabled.  Are these typically the only help features built into a distributed application?
    In the LabVIEW Help there is an article called "Development Process Tips" discussing creating web pages that document the VIs that you create, and another article called "Linking VIs to HTML Files or Compiled Help Files.  Another discusses Creating Compiled Help Files, but refers to third-party software for doing this.  Is this a typical approach for doing a nice job of providing help?
    Or is there some other way to create a Help system that works like the existing LabVIEW help but has content we create?

    Let me take your questions in order:
    Q. How should one approach giving users a built-in "Help" system?
    A. Here's one approach I have used: 
    a). Give all front panel controls and indicators a description so that the context help will show information for those front panel objects, and also for relevant front panel objects a tip - this will pop-up when the user hovers over the object, and can be annoying if it's used excessively, but nice if used where appropriate.
    b). Create html files, one for each "Page" of your user interface, and place a Help button on your user interface which will launch the corresponding document for that "Page."  I'm not sure what your UI is like, but basically if there are multiple front panels the user will see, a page describing each object on that panel, and the panel's purpose is nice.  If you're using a tab control in any of those panels, then a page for each tab is nice as well.
    A variation of b). is to use a so-called compiled help file - a .chm file.  These are only relevant for Windows machines, so if you plan to deploy across multiple OSs, then this is out.  The reason documentation suggests you need a third party tool is because those .chm files basically collect a set of html files together into a nice document, with the usual search, index, browse etc. capabilites and we don't have a product which does this.  The LabVIEW Help on Windows is a nice example of a .chm file.  You can do something SIMILAR with just HTML and javascript, creating at least a contents page which has organized links to the rest of the pages (which themselves can contain links back to the contents page), and even include the ability to search keywords etc.  You'll find various free examples of such html and javascript on the web.
    Once you have your html or compile help file, you can use the LabVIEW Help VIs to launch them.  For chm files you can open the file and direct to a particular page of the chm file, and for html files all you really need to do is launch the relevant html file in the browser of your choice.

    A. No, the html or chm idea is a nice touch, and can add a professional feel to the application.

    A. Yes, it is used internally as a standard - chm for windows and html for linux and MAC.

    A. One ideas is that you could implement your help entirely in LabVIEW if you'd like.  Basically you would be launching your own VI or VIs which would show whatever documentation you wanted/created.  You could use a tree structure or something to provide some convenient navigation by topic, and even a search - you would be coding this, and although I haven't done it, it seems like it would be pretty easy to do.

    Been asked to create a help system for a program created in microsoft access.  I have very basic skills...in my second month of a dip of software development so only covered html, javascript etc.
    I have chosen the program html help workshop to create, and understand that I have to use html to create the documents, and i have to create paths etc but have no idea how to string it all together?

    started down the right path to creating some tech docs.
    I see that you have downloaded (or soon will have downloaded) and installed the Microsoft HTML Help Workshop 1.4 that is available for download here:

    There are three (3) files available for download. You only need two (2) of them (Htmlhelp.exe and
    HelpDocs.zip). The HtmlHelpj.exe file is the Japanese version and I am assuming you won't be using that.
    After downloading the two (2) files, you will need to unblock each of them. To do this, right-click the
    Htmlhelp.exe file and click Properties. Click the
    Unblock button and then click OK. Repeat this process with the other file,
    HelpDocs.zip. It is important that you do this before you extract the files inside so the Windows operating system (OS) will trust the files.
    After unblocking it, right-click the HelpDocs.zip file and click Extract All... to extract the .chm help files to a nearby folder.
    You can install the application by running the Htmlhelp.exe installer. It will tell you that it is v1.3 and that newer files may already exist on the target system - that is just fine! After installing it, you can launch it from the
    Start menu.
