Need to edit text in pdf file created in Illustrator CS6

I need for someone else to be able to edit text in a pdf I created from Illustrator. They have full acrobat and should be able to edit it. I have tried it myself to test before sending it but it's not working. The original file was created in Illustrator CS6 and saved as a pdf (text has not been created outlines). I opened the file in acrobat and saved it out as an extended file to be able to edit the text but no luck. Need to be able to highlight existing text and change it. I have tried edit text tool but instead of a selection box around each line of text, it puts a selection box around all of the text. I can highlight the text and delete it but am unable to change it. Each individual text line needs to be editable. Is there something I need to do differently in Illustrator to get it to work correctly in Acrobat?
If it helps- the file is a calendar and they need to be able to change the dates and events that are already there.

This really isn't a suitable use of Acrobat. You should all be using the same editing tool (i.e. Illustrator).
Extending files reduces the amount of editing Acrobat can do, it does not increase it.
The tool to edit text from Illustrator would be Edit Document Text. There is no guarantee it will break up nicely into lines, it's trying to help by making paragraph text.
Conceivably you could use a form for this (fill in the blank for dates) but really, you should be using the same tool. Not necessarily Illustrator, more Excel or specialist Calendar software.

    how to edit text from pdf file?

    Adobe Reader does not allow editing the text of a PDF document. You will need to get Acrobat on your Windows or Mac to do that.

  • Editing text in pdf file

    I just bought Adobe Acrobat and was told that I would be able edit text in a pdf file I open. However I can't figure out how to do this?
    I can select the text but can't edit/change it?

    The Adobe Reader for SymbianOS isn't a PDF editor. You'd need Acrobat
    for that, using the Text Touch-up Tool.

  • Problem with printing pdf file created from Illustrator

    Hello,
    In a drawing I created with Illustrator 10.0.3 I covered part of a circle with a white rectangle (to make it disappear). I saved it as pdf. When printing the pdf (under Linux with a HP printer), the covered part reappeared. However the pdf-file is how it should be. Anybody knows what the problem is?

    No, it is not set to overprint. Also, I have to add that the printing results were not consistent. Sometimes it covered and sometimes it did not.

  • Problems editing text in pdf file

    I have a user that is using Adobe Acrobat 8 Standard and is wanting to edit a pdf form that someone sent him.  When we open it and I use the Touchup Text Tool to try and delete some of the text it throws off the entire layout of the document.  Is this because this document wasn't originally set up as a pdf? I don't understand why my edits throw everything off.  For example when I highlight the white text in the reddish colored header and start typing new text, the new text appears down below the header next to the "For daily and terminal cleaning" text.  I tried resaving the file and even tried exporting it to Word etc, and then reopening in Adobe Acrobat 8 Standard but none of that helped.  Am I completely missing something easy in this program?  I thought this would be a simple task.
    Thanks for any help.

    Hi Bill,
    I have used the Text Touchup Tool to jump around through the document.  The document is broken up into sections that are editable, but any editing of the very top part throws everything way off.  I don't know anything about Designer.  Do you think it's possible this document was created in something like Word and was scanned in as a pdf and that is why I am having a hard time editing it?
    Thanks, malaize

  • How do I open a PDF file (created in Illustrator) that suddenly refuses to open in Illustrator?

    Hello everyone. I'm having a strange issue that seems to have happened out of nowhere. I use a variety of Adobe Products for work and have been using Illustrator for a few basic brochures (I know InDesign is probably recommended more for brochures, but I just prefer Illustrator).
    I actually design them in two files with a "front" and "back." I then merge the PDFs together into one file and send them to the printing company.
    Recently, I've been working on one of these brochures. One morning I came into work and attempted to open the "inside" file for the brochure. Unfortunately, I receive an error message that says "Could not open the file." The file was saved as a PDF with Illustrator editing capabilities. I've been working on it for weeks and it only now stopped working. It does open in Adobe Reader as a standard PDF. Just doesn't make any sense to me. The "front" of the brochure opens normally in both Illustrator or Adobe Reader.
    On a related (or unrelated?) note, I'm also getting far more crashes lately.
    Any thoughts as to what could be going wrong? I've updated all my drivers, Illustrator, my GPU, windows updates, etc...

    RR,
    One thing often tried first is to create a new document and File>Place the corrupted one to see how much may be rescued that way (remember to tick Paste remembers Layers in the Layer palette flyout/dropdown first, and to untick it afterwards).
    Here is a website where you can see whether it can rescue the file, and if it can, you may pay for a subscription to have it done,
    http://www.recoverytoolbox.com/buy_illustrator.html
    and another similar website,
    http://markzware.com/adobe-software/fix-illustrator-file-unknown-error-occurred-pdf2dtp-fi le-recovery/
    As far as I remember, the former is for Win and the latter for Mac.
    Here are a few pages about struggling with it yourself:

    Failing a full recovery, hopefully you have one or more earlier versions and/or bits of artwork saved before it happened.

  • I need to edit text in a jpeg file.  How do I do that?

    I need to edit text in a jpeg file.  How do I do that?

    Unfortunately you can't. A JPEG is a flat raster (pixel-based) image file which has no awareness of "text" inside it. You could try to erase the text and graphic under it and then recreate the text, but it's best to do so using a mastering format such as PSD (Photoshop) or PXM (Pixelmator), so that you can export as JPEG but keep your layered master for later editing.

  • I have nine, 1-page PDF files that are accessible and need to combine into 1 PDF file.  I have tried appending, adding and the combine PDFs process. The file created is not keeping my changes. The created file is partially accessible but I have to re-fix

    I have nine, 1-page PDF files that are accessible and need to combine into 1 PDF file.  I have tried appending, adding and the combine PDFs process. The file created is not keeping my changes. The created file is partially accessible but I have to re-fix issues I had fixed in the single files. I need suggestions on what else can be done if any. Using Acrobat pro XI.

    Out of habit, I tend to combine PDF files in the Page Thumbnails pane by right-click then "Insert Pages" -> "From File". For me, this preserves the tags from both documents, although the tags may have to be moved into the right location (if I recall correctly the tags for the inserted pages get put at the end of the tag structure, regardless of where the pages are inserted), If I first put the tags for the document to be inserted inside a container tag like Section, it makes the process easier. Moving that set of tags to the right place is the only re-fixing that I recall having to do. What behavior are you experiencing?

  • Edit a existing pdf file

    Is it possible?? "I have an existing PDF file and I want to change every occurence of the word 'competitor' with the word 'myself' "

    Your qustion is very nice.Sometime we need to edit
    file whether it is non editable like your resume,it
    Do you mean "resumes submitted to the company". Why
    are you editing resumes submitted to you?Recruiters sometimes change resumes before submitting them to a company. [Those recruiters should be shot, especially if they do it without your prior approval.  You should know exactly what they are sending to the company.  If the recruiter has an issue or suggestion for your resume, the recruiter should tell you and have [b]you change it. They should not make changes that you haven't agreed to.]
    will be good if you make your resume in pdf format
    sothat nobody can write , but it will not static file
    you have to edit someday sometime for someone.Or do you mean the resume sitting in My Documents
    which will be converted from a Microsoft Word
    document to what ever the company I'm applying to
    wants then emailed off.If you can edit a PDF, so can the recruiter. Still PDF is harder for the recruiter to change than a Word document is. So, keep the Word document (or other editable source), change that as needed, and create a new PDF.
    I assume the OP doesn't have any editable source for this document--that he just has the PDF. He could always retype the whole thing if he can't use copy-and-paste or OCR or something to get editable text from the file.

  • PDF files created in Preview won't open in Adobe Reader

    I consider Preview to be a swiss army knife when it comes to working with PDF and graphic files. Lately (since the last OS update?) PDF files created in Preview won't open in Adobe Reader. Reader either crashes or just becomes unresponsive. I've been able to open the files in older versions of Adobe Professional but Reader 8 or 9 can't open the files. Anyone else experiencing these problems?

    Yes. We noticed this problem after upgrading to 10.6.7. When we made a PDF from Word 2011 or even Text Edit through Adobe's "Save as Adobe PDF" it would hang. When we made a PDF using Apple's "Save as PDF" it would lock up Acrobat Pro 9 and also Acrobat Pro X. NOTE that this only happened using Adobe OTF fonts.
    I posted this problem on Adobe's forum and received a message from admin there that this was caused by a change in font handling with Apple's 10.6.7 update.
    As of yet, no solution has been posted. I also received a message from Adobe's Tech Support that it was forwarded to their engineers.
    Still waiting.

  • Pdf file created in Word 2008 will not open in Acrobat 8.2.6 or any other Adobe program

    I have created a 12 page newsletter in Microsoft Word Publisher 2008 and have done so many times before with no problem. Today, I have tried to save it as a .pdf file both in Save As and through the printer. Each .pdf file created in Word will not open in Acrobat 8.2.6, Photoshop C3, Adobe Reader  nor any other Adobe software.
    When I go to open it in Acrobat, my Mac gives me the spinning rainbow. If I try to click on the file, I get a watch and then Acrobat crashes or I have to force quit the software. I really need to convert this file and get it to the printer. Any advice???
    Mac OS X 10.6.7
    Word 08 12.2.8
    Acrobat 8.2.6
    Adobe Reader 10.0.0

    Here is a better example.
    https://www.calcerts.com/PBR1.pdf
    is the original PDF file that is uploaded by a user.  Note that it is only 48kb in size.
    I take the file, add a couple of watermarks and a footer for each page as well as a small image on the last page, add security on it and BAM, the file:
    https://www.calcerts.com/PBR1_AFTER.pdf
    is now 1.5 MB and it takes a LONG time to print.
    Thoughts?

  • How to write a unicode text in pdf file

    Dear Friends,
    I am a beginner in acrobat pdf plug-in development. I was trying to write a unicode text (Tamil text) into pdf file.
    Using same api I am able to write english text in time-roman, areal etc fonts. But I am not able to write tamil texts.
    The code is as below:
            memset(&pdeFontAttrs, 0, sizeof(pdeFontAttrs));
            pdeFontAttrs.name = ASAtomFromString("Latha");
            pdeFontAttrs.type = ASAtomFromString("TrueType");
            pdeFont    = PDEFontCreateFromSysFont(                                        \
                            PDFindSysFont(&pdeFontAttrs, sizeof(pdeFontAttrs), 0),    \
                            kPDEFontCreateEmbedded);
            pdeText = PDETextCreate();
            PDETextAdd(pdeText, kPDETextRun, 0, (ASUInt8 *)buffer, _tcslen(buffer),
                                    pdeFont, &gState, sizeof(gState), NULL, 0, &textMatrix, NULL);
            PDEContentAddElem(pdeContent, kPDEAfterLast, (PDEElement)pdeText);
            PDPageSetPDEContent(pdPage, gExtensionID);
            PDPageReleasePDEContent (pdPage, gExtensionID);
    KIndly assume that PDEGraphicsState and PDETextMatrix are set properly set, I am not pasting entire code to avoid complexity.
    Thank you,
    Safiq

    Dear lrosenth,

  • Why can't I "Save as Text" a pdf file received as an email attachment?

    I can "Save as text" a pdf file which I have created in my own computer (that is, it goes into MS notebook that I then can Copy and Save as an MS Word file) but not when I receive a pdf as an email attachment. (The file is saved, but it is empty.) Why would I want to convert my own pdf back to text? Well, in case I no longer have the original Word document I suppose, but the thing is "Save as text" works with my pdf, but not with those I recieve from others. How come? Thanks!

    Is this a scanned PDF? If so, it must first be OCR'd.

  • How can i edit a scanned pdf file in adobe 9 pro ?

    how can i edit a scanned pdf file in adobe acrobae 9 pro ?

    With Clear Scan you get the text replacing the graphics of text. That can be edited. If you do searchable PDF conversion, you can still edit (I think). However it is an edit of the hidden layer of text behind the graphic and does not show on screen normally.
    Usually the best choice is to ask the author for the original file to edit. If that is a copyright issue, then you should not be editing anyway.
