Hi all im quite new to after effects and need to make a 20 second HD clip with a moving image background and text thats flies in. I also need to create a basic cross image. If anyone could suggest the best way to go about doing this it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance

Thank you for both of your reponses and I will try and be clearer:
what I want to acheive is a HD motion graphic of text which will almost spin onto the screen letter my letter and then a become static word. Behind this I would like to place a moving image clip.
By 'basic cross image' what im looking to do is use a cruifix shape instead of a 't' on the text.

First let me apologize for posting a reply that was only suitable for advanced users. Photoshop is broad and powerful therefore has a huge learning curve. In fact I would state no one knows and uses all of Photoshop. When we first get Photoshop it intimidate us and we're very uncomfortable using it. Many thing are not intuitive there in much learning involved. After some time we begin to know something and we are able to do some thing. Learning become rapid and we start playing in Photoshop. It is very important to play with Photoshop. Playing with Photoshop and asking for help with in forums like this IMO is the best way to learn.
Photoshop Power lies in layers, selection and automation. However it takes knowledge to use photoshop well so most powerful tool you have ins Photoshop is the gray matter between your ears. Most at one time or another want to watermark or put a logo on their image. So its best to automate this process. All run into a problem in the process. "Size" We find our assets vary in size and aspect ratios. Landscape, Portraits, Panoramas and others. This complicates automation. Vector graphics works best when size vary greatly. If you can not work out how to create a vector solution like a custom shape. Create your Logo and watermark large thing scale down better the up. Text scale well for text uses vectors graphics however if you rasterize text it will not scale well.
I do not type or do English well so let me do some screen captures. I can not stress enough how important Black, White, Grays and Blending is when it come to image processing. Become friends with Multiply, Screen, Overlay and Luminosity blending.....
However when there is a white or black background though you can blend them you can not add a style like a drop shadow, emboss or make it invisible setting fill to 0 so only the style is visible. When there is contrast between the logo and background it is easy to separate the two. To select the background and delet it to have the logo with a transparent background. Many tools can be used to create the selection hee I use my action kill white.
Vector Shape would work better for scaling However it would be best to create the logo from scratch in a vector program like illustrator but I never had the resources to justify the Creative suite. I only had Photoshop. Recently Adobe gave me and other a year subscription to the creative suite for our participation here. I still have not installed anything but Photoshop, A while back I found a program that can create vector patf for black and white art work. It will not be as good as using something like illustrator. im really stuck on this and cant work it out i hope you guys can help! i have been trying to make a single shot or scene whatever you want to call it with multiple videos playing all at the same time in it but i want them all to have their own custom shape. i know that i can just put them together into one frame and play them at once but they are all the original rectangle shape they where filmed in and i could put a mask over each one to make it a circle but i want to make each one a custom shape for example if you where to make a face out of 4 videos and one was the shape of the main part of the face one was the eyes one for the hair and one for the mouth now i would have to make the shape of each video the right shape for the corresponding body part then place them on top of each other and then i would have a face made from looping videos. i cannot work out how to make the frames of each video a custom shape after searching tutorials please can someone help me with this it would be greatly appreciated as it is a collage project. thanks very much for your time in the matter Josh.

ok thanks yea thats helped alot im new to this so thats why it seems basic to you but not me. i have tryed to find out through tutorials but could work it out. im now able to do this but i want to draw my mask free hand and it seems you can only place points with the pen tool? is this the only way to make the shape of my mask? or example in photoshop which i know well i can use a paint brush and paint any shape i want to make a mask but i cant see how to do that in after effects? any help on this would be greatly appreceated. thanks josh

Photoshop Elements 10 was a single disk product. Might the second disk be the video editing program 'Premiere Elements 10'? If so it will have a different serial number (24-digits commencing 1143) to that of Photoshop Elements (24-digits commencing 1057).
If you don't have the serial number, but did register the software, you should be able to retrieve it from the 'My Products' section in your 'My Adobe' A/c.

I am looking for the best way to make a copy of an application from one computer to another, including the schema (tables, data and all) in Apex3.2.
I can only manage to make a copy of the application without the data using the export utility

Hello,
To copy across the data you can use the traditional EXP/IMP or the Datapump utility.
If you're used to using EXP/IMP I'd encourage you to look at Datapump, if you haven't used EXP/IMP before I'd encourage you to look at Datapump (datapump rocks) -

There are a few major differences between Datapump and traditional EXP/IMP (EXP/IMP creates the export file on the client side, Datapump creates it on the server side etc).

Make a matte in Photoshop.
From the Photoshop menu bar: File > New > Film & Video Presets. Choose one that suits your FCP project pixel dimensions. Make the background black. Place a white rectangle with rounded corners on top (the white will determine how much of your picture is visible). Flatten Image. Save as TIFF. Import into FCP.
Move your video clips up to V2. Place the imported TIFF on V1. Highlight all clips on V2.
Go to Modify > Composite Mode > Travel Matte Luma. Done.
If you want soft edges, no need for a matte. Double click your clip to place it in the Viewer. Open up the Motion tab > Crop > Edge Feather. Nice and quick. Copy and Paste attributes for the other clips.

Best way to export clips with effects, like project manager

First of all I would like to say hello to everybody, cause this is my first post, thanks in advance for your help.
The problem:
I'm running adobe premiere pro cs06 on a mac and what I want to do seems simple but is very difficult. I import material from an Alexa camera, putting all the clips to the timeline and add some effects to the clips, too.
Now I want to export all changed clips with the same codec, filename and timecode, just like I can do, when I use the project manager to consolidate my files.
So the goal is an easy way to add effects and export same as source?!

First I dont want to export to the arriraw format, what I want to export to is prores444. The reason why is simply because there are some effekts that might speed up my workflow, let me explain:
Most jobs I do the following, I work as a DIT and colorcorrect footage from lots of cameras on set and export them to any kind of codec using davinci resolve.
The most time consuming progess is the neutralizing of all the different camera models..
With plugins like re:match from re:vision it could save me some time, due to its good auto correction, which would give me a good starting point for my further colorcorrection.
But in order to be faster than my normal way, I need to have some auto or same as source export funktion. Although when the clips match the original metadata I will have no problems in the later stages of my workflow.

PS Newb needs help with image scaling and multi-sheet printout

Hi, I'm trying to use PS CS3 to scale up an image I have so I can print it out to use as a map for a miniatures game. I have no problem scaling the image to the appropriate size, but I can't figure out how to print out the image on multiple 8.5 x 11 sheets. I had thought I'd seen an option for such a procedure previously, but maybe it was in another editing program. If anyone has any ideas on how I might accomplish this I'd really appreciate hearing about them. Thanks!

Illustrator and InDesign do tiled printing as does CorelDraw. Photoshop as such does not, but some script for that may exist. In your case, the simplest solution would be to save the File as a PDF and have Acrobat generate a tiled print (Page Scaling setting in teh Acro print dialog). You just need to make sure your page properly fits multiple pages. Unliek AI and ID, Acro can only chop up stuff based on standard paper sizes...
