Need to re-install iTunes

I have a problem with my iTunes, everytime I try to sync my iPhone 4 it says "backing up" and doesn't seem to progress anymore. I need to cancel the sync everytime because it just doesn't do anything and then I need to end iTunes through Windows Task Manager as it freezes every time. My phone has also been forced to restore a few times too, and I've lost my backups so I've lost all photos, contacts, etc. and because I can't sync anything I have nothing on my phone. I have actually managed to sync all my music back on the phone though, after "repairing" iTunes through the control panel, but I can't seem to do a full sync.
I've been looking over the Internet with similar problems, and the only thing I can think of resolving this problem is re-installing iTunes completely and installing it again. Now, I'm pretty sure I know how to do this but I do not want to lose my music. I don't want to lose playlists, play counts, etc. either. Is it possible to completely re-install iTunes and keep everything I don't want to lose? Again, I'm pretty sure re-installing iTunes will resolve this problem I have, but if anyone has any other suggestions it'll be great. And I know its been mentioned before and I'm sorry for making a new discussion but nothing already mentioned has resolved the problem. Any replies will be appreciated

I don't want to lose playlists, play counts, etc. either.
These are stored in a file named
iTunes Library.itl
I always make a copy of that and put it on a thumb drive before I reinstall/upgrade itunes. If the upgrade goes badly, I have a copy and I can revert back to the old itunes version and old library version.
That takes care of the itunes library database. The itunes library content is all the music, podcasts, video, apps, etc and should be in your user/Music/itunes folder.
Your phone's data backup is stored here

  • I got an error message with updating my iTunes and now its saying I need to re-install iTunes. How do I do that

When I was prompted there was an update on iTunes I did as usual and began installing the update. Something happened during that time and I got an error saying it didn't download correctly. Now when I go to open iTunes it gives me an error message and says I need to re-install the program.  I'm not sure how to do that.  I am also concerned that I will lose all of the things that I have backed up from my phones, purchases, apps, etc.  Can anyone please give me some insight on what to do?

  • Need to Re-install iTunes - here is how to do it

If you need to re-install the current version of iTunes here is a trouble free way of doing so... this may or may not take care of other problems as well, if so good luck... my only assumption here is you already have a good and problem free System... if in doubt ask 1st.
1st remove the receipts for iTunes so as a new copy can be reinstalled....
    To do it yourself....
Go to the main System library and open the Receipts folder or Type 'Receipts' in Finder search box to find receipts folder....
drag to the trash... iTunes4.pkg and check to see if any other 'iTunes.pkg' files are there, if so, drag also to the trash but only the ones starting with 'iTunes' leave all others untouched and close the folder.
or have a GUI like Desinstaller do it for you..
Check that your HD is in order with 'Disk Utility' ...
Run repair HD from original CD or DVD install disk...
insert disk and re-start holding down the 'c' key until you see the spinning gear.
At installer level do not continue...
Use top left menu and go 'Disk Utility' (pre Tiger).... use 'Utilities' Menu for Tiger and go 'Disk Utility'
select your HD volume with Operating system on...
select 1st aid... select repair Hard Disk.
if errors are repaired run again until none are reported then verify your HD.
quit and return to the Finder Do not continue with the Installer...
Check the permissions are set correct on the Apple installed software...
Use 'Disk Utility' from Applications > Utilities > select HD... select 1st aid. repair permissions... if repairs are needed run again until none are repaired... do not worry about messages 'we are using special permissions etc... they are OK Quit when finished.
Click here to download iTunes 6.0.1 .... then install.
    * if you have any combo system upgrades that need to be applied, now is the time to do it.... make iTunes the last thing to be installed.
Now do the HD repairs and permissions repairs again, as above, in the same order. Important
Your iTunes program should work OK now ... there are a few bits which are optional and I recommend as good things to do and that is, Check and set correct permissions on all your music files, replace the dock icon and convert the ID3 tags
Use BatChmod to set correct permissions on your home ~ Music folder
This compact GUI will perform the same tasks as a 'command line in Terminal '
drag the complete Music folder with libraries and iTunes Music folder inside to the BatChmod Icon and drop....
check path is correct.... tick if not already.... Owner=R W X, Group=R, Others=R,
    for a 'Shared Folder' ... tick if not already.... Owner=R W -, Group=R W -, Others=R W -.
then tick 'Apply ownership and privileges' 'unlock'... click Apply... provide password... all done very quick...
Drag the iTunes Icon from the dock and replace it with a new copy from the Applications folder
Sometimes it also a good idea to convert ID3 tags...Start iTunes and select all songs in the library ... select from top menu 'Advanced' choose 'convert ID3 tags' .... ver. 2.3 works well with iTunes.

  • Need to re-install iTunes app on my phone, where can I download the app?

I need to re-install the app for iTunes on my phone. Can't find it on app store. And a reset didn't add it to my phone (3GS)

You can't delete it.  It may be on another page or in a folder.  If restrictions are turned on for the iTunes Store, the iTunes Store is disabled and its icon is removed from the Home screen. You cannot preview, purchase, or download content.  Check Settings > General > Restrictions.  If it's not restricted, you can reset the home screen layout. Go to Settings > General > Reset > Reset Home Screen Layout.  That will put the icons back in their original positions.

  • TS1277 Unable to launch itunes from my PC. Get an error stating MSVCR80.dll is missing and need to re-install itunes. I've reinstalled numerous times...still not working. What should I do?

I'm currently unable to launch itunes from my PC. I get an error message stating that MSVCR80.dll is missing. It recommends that I re-install itunes and that may correct the issue. I've re-installed numerous times and nothing seems to be working. What should I do?

Click here and follow the instructions. You may need to completely remove and reinstall iTunes and all related components, or run the process multiple times; this won't normally affect its library, but that should be backed up anyway.

  • I need to re-install Itunes on computer

I need to re-install I-tunes on my computer, but will my music still be there after I uninstall the current version?

iTunes media library and folders are stored at a separate location away from program folders and files.  Uninstall iTunes program will not affect your media.  Once nstalled iTunes will go to same location to look for your media library n files.

  • Need help: When installing iTunes on Windows 7, installer is stopping at "Installing Apple Application Support". Can anyone help....this is the first time I am using an Apple product and it sure is not very user friendly!!!

I am trying to install itunes but the installer is not going beyond the "Installing Apple application support" stage,

Do you have any of these programs installed?
    iTunes
    QuickTime
    Apple Software Update
    Apple Mobile Device Support
    Bonjour
    Apple Application Support
I had the trouble that if an old #4 or #5 was installed, a full iTunes install did not work.

  • I need help re-installing itunes.  I get the error message: Install failed run preupgrade for Apple Mobile Device Support.  Any solutions?

I've been trying to upgrade to/install Itunes 10.  When trying to do so, I get the error message: Install failed run preupgrade for Apple Mobile Device Support.
Per what I saw as a response to someone else who had a similar issue, I thought a fix might be to uninstall my existing Itunes, then try to re-install the Itunes 10.  I tried that.  However, I still get the same error message.  Now, I have no Itunes.
I tried to email Apple, and they have not replied.
    Anyone offer any solutions?

me too did you get any help?
