Neo4 Ultra Plat. / Opty 175 / Corecenter 2.0.2.1 errors on boot :(

Heya., Been running my Neo4 Ultra Plat. since they first came out. This is a PCB v1.0. Thought i'd pop a Opty 175 in it and test drive it. It's running the latest 1D bios and all the most recent drivers. It's really odd Corecenter installs fine and runs ok but soon as I reboot if fails at life during system boot. Maybe 1 outta 10 times it won't error. Once it errors it just refuses to run period. So for fun I wrote a .exe to exec CoreCenter 60secs later on start to let everything else finish loading but with still the same problems. Is this latest CoreCenter compatible with DualCore procs. ?

It is running the newest AMD DC drivers. The CoreCenter is this one:
 MSI Core Center      ReleaseDate:     2006-11-22
Version    2.0.2.1      Support OS    Win- 98SE/ME/2000/XP/XP 64bit      File size    4.185MB

  • Fsb problem with Neo4 Ultra

I have been having a problem with my neo4 ultra that seems to be pretty common.
I can not boot past a fsb of 219 reliably.
    My system is
    AMD64 3200+
    MSI K8N Neo4 nForce4 Ultra
    Wavemaster Case
OCZ Gold Series Dual 1GB DDR PC-3200
    Thermalright XP-90
    OCZ ModStream 520W
    Sapphire Radeon X800 XL
I am doing it all with clockgen to up my FSB to find the best results. I am on 1.24 BIOS
    My Basic BIOS settings are
    FSB = 219
    HTT = 4x
Mem at 166 Voltage at 2.85
    Mem Timmings at 2.5-3-2-8 1T
    CPU 10x startup - cpu-z reports voltage at 1.58
Rasied FSB by 5 at a time to 251 and super pi failed.
Changed vcore to 1.60 and the best I could get super pi to run at was 247. So I decided to start fine tunning my memory.
    I set mem to 180 2.5-3-3-10-1T
Used clockgen again and what was interesting was FSB of 255 passed with a superpi of 34 sec. Now it failed at fsb258.
Changed mem timmings to 200 2.5-3-3-10-1T
And best I could get was fsb=230 and superpi failed. I decided to keet the 180 divider and see how far I can drop the timming at 180.
So I ended up at this
    FSB =251
    HTT 4x
    Mem 180 2-3-2-8 1T volts = 2.85
    CPU 10x Volts cpu-z reports 1.63
Runs prime stable all night at these settings.
But here is the thing if I go into the BIOS and change fsb to 221 My machine will not boot.
I am guessing the power up sequence is wrong in the BIOS

I cannot boot at over FSB 219, either. Will overclock fine with Clockgen when in XP (have tried up to 270 fsb, and the CPU will run 2574mhz at 1.5). But have to reset bios if I set the FSB over 219, regardless of memory HTT, vcore, etc , settings. I've been watching other forums and have seen MANY people with the same problem. One of the things I have in common with a lot of other people with this problem is that my Winnie 3500+ Retail will not run much over stock with the low vcore that this board gives as default. I have used Core Center, Sisoft Sandra 2005, and CPUz 1.27 to check vcore once in windows. All of them show 1.36 for vcore. That's lower than default of 1.4. And when I set the vcore for 1.55 and the overvoltage thingy to highest percentage in bios, all the monitoring apps show 1.526, which is waaay lower than it should be (1.67). Now, I will concede that the monitoring apps could be wrong. But, I believe the 219mhz POST issue is due to the start up vcore and multiplier is PROBABLY default at post. So, if your FSB is set for more than the CPU will run at it's default vcore and multiplie + set FSB, then the board freezies at POST. If the bios would just boot at whatever you set into the bios, then there wouldn't be a problem, unless yoiu have set thingswaay too high. Then it would just do what it does now, not POST, and you would have to reset the bios. There are a lot of Winchester core CPU's out there that will run high mhz at default voltages. But, there are a lot of newer Winnie's that won't. Mine is one of them.
Now it seems that there is a limitation on the board of 1.55 vcore with a Winnie. Even using the overvoltage setting. What is that all about? You put overclocking friendly on the retail box, on the product page on the main site, and all the review sites say overclocking potential is graet, and then you limit the vcore to 1.5v? Crazy logic (or should I say "Fuzzy Logic")   I am close to eBaying this board (only had it 2 - 3 days, but won't send it back to ZZF for replacement as all of them could have the same problem) and go with the DFI or the Abit Fatality.
Am I saying all this right?

What PSU are you using ? Can you list the power output ? (writen on side of psu)
Going from your specs you listed your graphics card is very hungery on power so I would suggest your psu isn't up to the job under load.
Post the spec and we will know for sure.

I want to be able to create some custom EAX settings but I can't seem to find any way to do that on the SB Live 24 bit that's integrated on the K8N Neo4 SLI Plat board.  Is anyone able to do this or is it a limitation of the integrated SB Live 24 bit?  I hope it's not the latter...  Thanks.

Hello, uninstall your sound drivers and go to creative site and get the lastest drivers with creative sound console, install both this sould work..  also clean out all the old sound drivers after uninstalling with driver cleaner. I think thats how i did it.    good luck henry9

  • Re-boot cycle with new opty 175?

Iv already posted in this thread https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=101539.40 but its been a couple of weeks since anyone has made a post so thought I would repost here, sorry if this is wrong way to do it.
I installed my new Opty 175, It recognised OK in my system. ACPI MultiProcessor PC with both cores reported under CPU in Device manager, Task Manager showing 2 graphs for both cores, all looks good so far.
Installed the MS Hotfix (never done the PerfEnablePackageIdle registry edit, is this maybe a problem?) then the AMD Optimiser, everything still looking good.
    Quote
    install Dual Core HotFix V4 --> https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=103843.0
    reboot.
install Dual Core Optimizer --> http://www.amd.com/us-en/assets/content_type/utilities/Setup.exe
reboot, re-test. (check it from device manager:
This is the order I installed the fixes, as per BOSSMANS instructions.
I cant see the MS hotfix KB896256 in ADD/REMOVE programs??
    AMD fix is there though.
My Problem is the same as mremulator's described in this thread https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=101922.0
    Quote
No No No, the dual core optimiser and MS Hotfix are NOT compatible.
I made the mistake of installing the two and Windows XP would reboot at desktop. AMD have confirmed this.
I have the desktop reboot problem, though not all the time. Seems to be when I've been in the BIOS (no changes made) or recently I ran Memtest for 16 passes (no errors) and rebooted to the reboot cycle again.
I was thinking of just doing a re-install but after reading the above thread it looks like I will have the same problem after installing both dual core fixes?
I have a Ghost Image of my upgrade before the Dual Core fixes where installed and was thinking of going back to this to try again to fix the reboot cycle problem, will this be a good Idea?
Also, any ideas as to whay the MS Hotfix doesnt show in ADD/REMOVE programs? (show updates is ticked)
Can someone please give me a clear route to Installing the fixes (if they are applicable), and if the registry edit for the MS Hotfix is needed???
    Any help is much appreciated
    g2k.

Right, I've been at this for nearly 4 hours now.
I've done all below and this is MY findings:
    1. Restored my Ghost image (which was made prior to installing any fixes, just the CPU installed)
    2. Installed the "AMD Athlon™ 64 X2 Dual Core Processor Driver for Windows XP and Windows Server 2003 Version (x86 and x64 exe) 1.3.2.16" software.
    3. Installed the MS Hotfix KB896256, then done testing with the reg files supplied by BOSSKILLER, plus the boot.ini edit (with both  "/NoExecute=OptIn"
and "/EXECUTE", absolutely no difference with either).
Done a few reboots, messing around in BIOS, just looking - no changes. All fine when booting up. Happy with that I chose the enable reg entry and saved this as my default.
    4. Installed AMD Optimiser, reboot straight to windows = OK
reboot to BIOS and mess around looking at the settings (no changes), reboot and when windows loads - instant reboot and back into my reboot cycle!
continued to mess around rebooting and into BIOS and finaly had to F8 to load the "Last good config that worked" on the list.
    5. Uninstalled AMD Optimiser, repeated all the rebooting and BIOS messing around, I CANT get the system to get the reboot cycle error at all now
My conclusion is - dont install the AMD Optimiser! Also I agree with mremulator in this thread: https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=101922.0
Im using only the MS hotfix with the enabled reg key and its fine like that, installing the AMD one made absolutely no difference for me apart from the reboot problem.
I understand people dont have this problem running both fixes, just thought I would post my findings incase anyone else ran into similar problem as me.
    @ BOSSKILLER
can you tell me what the difference is between the BOOT.INI edits " "/NoExecute=OptIn" and /EXECUTE" please??
Also, many thnx for all your help
    nice one
    g2k.

  • Neo4 Ultra Platinum (7125) + GeIL DDR400 1.5-2-2-5

    Hi,
I am trying to install GeIL low latency memory CL=1.5 to Neo4 Ultra (Platinum) (7125). Is there a bios that supports Tcl 1.5 ?
Any mod bios that support tihs ? Anyone ? Link ?
Please help, can't wait to test it to 1.5, I waited long to get this limited edition... So far A64 tweaker is doing fine, but I would like to use BIOS. DFI LanParty support Tcl=1 and 1.5.
How to mod bios myself to reach this?

Its becuase you have a RAID 0 on the NVidia SATA ports, there is a bug that stops the system from restarting. Use the silicon image for now untill its fixed.
    Silicon image?

  • PCI and SATA locks on neo4 Ultra Board

Where in the BIOS do I set the locks for the PCI bus and the SATA ports? And which SATA ports are locked?

Quote from: MMAN on 15-February-05, 15:43:38
1,2,3,AND 4 ARE ALL ON THE SAME CONTROLLER. 5AND 6 ARE ON THE SILICON IMAGE CONTROLLER.
With the Neo2, only two are part of the chip, the other two require an external interface chip (note not an external controller). It's still a matter of debate if it's the 2 sata which use the interface chip, or those which don't, which are locked. Either way it's ports 3 and 4 which are locked on the Neo2.
I expected the same with the Neo4, but found using 3 and 4 caused disk corruption when the FSB was increased, and shifting to  1 and 2 solved it.

  • PCI locks using neo4 Ultra

I would like to know in the BIOS where I turn  on and verify the PCI locks? Also which SATA ports are locked and does that need to be turned on as well?
    Thanks

Quote from: Hannibal on 12-February-05, 04:28:44
The problem lies in sata 1&2. by using 3&4 many people have resolved many conflicts .   The PCI bus is locked on both sides. There is a known issue with 1&2.
In my experince things have changed with the Neo4. I expected 3 and 4 to be locked and got textrure file errrors using 3dmark2001se, a sure sign of an overclocked disk. Using 1 and 2 now and had no such problem.

There is a 2nd 4prong power hook-in which im guessing is similuar to the one on the new 24pin PS's as it is labeled alike (ps hookin is 1, other is 2) Now I have another 4 prong hookup on my PS but the wires are different colors so im guessing this would not be the right kind of hookup and have yet to hook it in out of fear of turning my board into a hotplate. Is this 2nd hookin necessary? Please keep in mind for now im trying to hook this all up with a PCI video card.
And here is the exact clue to your problem.   AMD Athlon 64 processors will not POST without the ATX 12V connection (the 4 pin connector near the processor) as this provides the voltage to the CPU.   Traces from the 24 or 20 pin connector don't even route to the processor anymore as the newer ATX standard has the CPU receiving it's power from this 4pin connector.   It's the same connector an Intel Pentium 4 processor would require, so if you have a Pentium 4 support rating on your power supply, it should work.
The four pin connector should have two yellow wires and two black wires, as it provides to +12V and to ground connections for the CPU.  If the colors don't match, check with the power supply vendor before plugging in to prevent damage to your CPU.

What's your CPU? Do you overclock it? I had a 430w-Thermaltake PSU shipped by the manufacturer with my computer. I experienced mysterious problems. I got help from this forum, replaced that 430w PSU with a Tagan and my computer has been running reliably since. Some reviews on newegg.com said about that 430w PSU "more than enough for my power rig blah blah blah..." Maybe with stock speed.

  • 7125v1.0 Neo4 Ultra - CPU Frequency wrong

    Config: MB:7125v1.D0, CPU: 3700+, Ram: 2*1GHz Gskill, VGA: Sparkle 6600GT PSU: Corsair VX550W, 2 IDE & 2 Sata Disks (Non-Raid)
    Hello,
MB is non-overclocked (never), but Cell Menu in Bios (v1.D0 - last disponible on MSI Site) shows:
Current CPU Clock 2211MHZ , Current DDR Clock.
I don't know when and how the frequency changed... at the time I flashed the Bios, frequency was 200MHz.
Actually, I can change, after windows has started, the frequency from 201 to 200MHz using the Nvidia Control Panel.
Even if Board is working with 201MHz clock, isn't it better - or am i wrong? - that frequency is not higher than 200MHz?
Is there any way to change this in the Bios, so the frequency is what it has to be?
In Cell Menu, these 2 lines (the first 2 of the screen) are grayed and said non-changeable.
I tried a Cmos-Clear, as indicated otherwhere (power cord unplugged, battery removed, waiting at least 15Mn, etc..) but nothing changed. I also tried to reinstall XP entirely on another clean disk, but CPU Frequency remains at 201MHz.
Is it possible to reflash the 1.D0 Bios on the same Bios and will it change the frequency?
What happens if I reflash the same Bios on that which is in use?
Or is it better consider reflashing an older Bios, and after that reflash the newer?
    Tia for any help

Well what's the matter 200.5 or 200.0, you can try to disable CPU Spread spectrum it can affect 0.5 in the freq.
    Hello,
I apologize not to have answered before, but I was traveling for work the last 3 weeks.
I asked about the HTT frequence because it is generally said not to change the Ram Speed over the previous speed.
Even when I let 201Mhz for CPU Clock, i have some bugs (unexpected reboot after various time, unexpected PC freezing) - not always but from time to time. When I change the CPU Speed to 200 MHz with NVidia controlpanel, just after windows has started, these bugs never ! appear.
Changing the CPU Spread Spectrum option in the cellmenu has no effect.
So I'm wondering that i have this default which exists also when i make a new XP Install on a new disk: FSb Clock 201MHz CPU Clock 2211MHz instead of 200/2200. Ok with the multiplier factor it is right but The RAM Frequence is also 402 MHz.

  • Neo4 SLI Plat - Poor Customer Service - No Longer Loyal

I have been a long time customer of MSI of both their motherboards and video cards.  I posted on here awhile ago about about my troubles surrounding a newly pruchased motherboard that basically amounted to a failed bios chip.  Tech supported suggested they send me a bios chip against my wishes, as I thought it was more than the bios and wanted a new motherboard.  I bought a PLCC puller from radio shack and started to extract the chip.  The chip was wedged in the socket so tightly that it started to flex the board in that location.  I tried to pull a bit harder and basically the plcc extractor twisted and broke off the side of socket.  I spose you could chalk this up to my fault or that fact I should have been shipped a brand new board to begin with.
In either circumstance, it took 1.5 weeks for the new bios chip to get processed and shipped and then another 5 days for it to reach me.  So basically 2.5 weeks for a small silicon chip that could cost no less then 10 bucks to over night?  MSI was graceful enough to accept the board for RMA, however, they wanted me to PAY for shipping to them, and then wait an average of 2 weeks for them to test and verify the problem, and then wait additional time for them to ship it back to me.  I if I wanted faster shipping I had to pay for that both ways!  I've already waited weeks to get my new rig running for petes sake!
This tells that MSI has so many problems lately with their products they no longer stand by their customer support and give the end user the shaft.  I flat out told the customer support person my situation, my frustration level, and dwindling confidence in MSI.  It's not the customer support rep's fault they have no authority, but he basically said nothing more he could do and its just the way it is.  MSI has no loyalty for their customers, and I sure as hell am not going to have any continued loyalty for MSI.
Thank god i bought this from newegg, they are going to refund my money, and I already ordered out another board from a different manufacturer.  From this day forward, I will never purchase another MSI Product and I will continue to post my thoughts on this company being completely worthless.

I know and unfortunately this is how the global market works.  Basically one level of service, which is nothing wrong with that -- unless you pattern your service around the lowest common denominator.  Quite honestly, I am not trying to and moan here, I would just like to see some changes in their customer service.  Take newegg for example - top of the customer service food chain.  Are their prices the lowest - nope, but they offer fast service, great top of the line product selection and more importantly a customer centric RMA policy.  Two Thumbs Up - you know where your money whent.  MSI - damn I got mugged.

I think it is pretty standard for most large companies like this. I've had similar issues with ABIT and ASUS that took a long time to resolve since I was beyond the resellers 30 day limit. Not saying that it's acceptable because it really isn't, but that is often the case. It's not just MSI.
I've often payed for 3day shipping to at least get the product in the door and processed, and depending on how hot it was, Ive even had to eat the cost of a new board just to get it in the hands of my customer, then find a way to sell or use the board that returns for RMA. Tell me how frustrating that is...

  • Neo4 K8N Plat SLI - Boot Disk Failure :(

Having installed Windows XP Proffesional, I installed the graphics card drivers and was asked if I wanted to restart. I went ahead and restarted, and was confronted with the "boot disk failure..." error message.
I eventually decided to reinstall Windows but when the "press any key to boot from CD" message came up, in an act of defiance, I decided that I wouldn't press any key at all.
I was suprised to see Windows load up.
Booting without the Windows CD in the drive results in the error. With the CD in the drive it boots - what could be causing this? The mobo, the HDs, the OS?

    The Samsung ... yes, that's a sad story ...
I'm one of the people who believes that two disks in a SATA Raid don't nessecarely have to be the same brand. It even haves some pro's to not use the same types of disks, but that's another topic. They should, however, be the same size of course. I used one Samsung spinpoint (120GB) and a Western Digital Caviar (120GB) in a Raid-0 array. On the Dutch forum this array is known as "RAID-UI"  . It worked pretty well, no crashes, pretty fast data transfers ... but then, one day, I had a hickup using Ghost. I saw: Creating image of C: 23% complete ... And it stood there for a very long time. After that, Ghost shut down giving an I/O error. I investigated the error and becam aware that there were disk errors on C: (one partition of two on the SATA RAID-UI). I had the whole lot repaired using CHKDSK and everything seemed OK again.
I looked in the VIA Raid tool and saw a difference in size between "capacity" and "real capacity" of about 0.064MB on the Samsung. Well, nothing to cry about yet. But I kept on getting disk errors and I kept on having to run CHKDSK. After a week I lost over 25MB and every day I lost more to bad clusters. Knowing that two striped disks have to be the same size, I started to wonder when this raid would crash. But, since I don't like the idea of suddenly loosing a 220GB disk array, I decided to throw out both the Samsung and the WD. (The WD is in another PC). I bought two Seagate disks and didn't go back to Samsung, because of the terrible answer I got from Samsung Holland.
I mailed them about the broken disk and asked for a replacement (disk is about 13 months old and there's a two year waranty). They simply refused to give me a replacement. They stated that I probably messed around with the disk, cause of the bad clusters. Stupid anser, to my opinion. The disk simply died from one day to the other.
Note that this disk has always hung right behind an inlet fan! So it never got hot.
I'm very happy with the seagates now. They're more quiet and ... FASTER! I get data-transfers of about 94-96MB/s, while with the other array the max was about 88MB/s.

Damn! Those are some great prices!
If I had only those two to choose from I'd go with the OCZ.
Myself, I'm a Mushkin fan, it's a little more $$ but at those prices, I may even pick up some more for my new build. I've paid over 200 for mine each time, so 166 is a great price.
