Netra T1 105 USB port

I have a few old Netra T1 105s running Solaris 10 for hacking around with, and I'm thinking of playing with running a small RDF database (partitioned to around 10^8 triples each) off of a flash drive to reduce seek times. Currently each node has one 9 and one 18GB disk, and I'm want to add a 16GB of flash drives to each.
So I need some USB ports, so I can plug in cheap USB sticks.
Does anyone have any recommendations for a PCI USB2.0 card/chipset to use with Netra T1 105s running Solaris 10?

I just took a quick peek at the 3rd party hardware links at BigAdmin.
I found them with a keyword search at the Sun.Com site for "i/o technologies".
It appears that Addonics, Bekin, and D-link may have something.
They should be relatively inexpensive as well.

Netra t1 105: Solaris 8 & 9 install failures

Hi Everyone,
I have two (2) Sun Netra T1 105 machines, each with a single 360MHz Ultra SPARC IIi and 256MB RAM. Both have 18.2GB drives that have been wiped clean.
I am connecting using Winblows 2000 and Hyperterminal, serial port B, 9600,8,n,1.
I want to install a fresh copy of Solaris 9 on these systems, but I am having absolutely no luck. I boot from the Solaris 9 install CD and the systems just hang. I've also tried to do network installs, and they hang as well.
I thought it might be my Solaris 9 install media, so I tried to install Solaris 8 using several different releases - 4/01, 10/01 & 2/02. Each time, I get the same result - the boxes just hang.
I make it this far (serial, MAC, and hostid x'ed out to keep our security folks happy):

And then it hangs forever. In the OBP, I've set the input and output ttys to ttyb to eliminate LOM interference.

This could be part of the problem. How exactly did you wipe the disks in the other machine, and what type of machine was it?I installed the disks into a Sun Netra T1125, partioned (using format) and newfs'd them to create basic file systems.
How about a "boot cdrom -s"? If it boots this way, does "format" see the disks ok?Tried this, same result. The systems don't make it past the licensing terms message.
As for the mini tests - I ran them against every device, and everything seems OK. The floppy test threw an error because I didn't have a floppy drive installed.
I have a 4 port QFE card installed in the machine - all of the loopback tests passed, but the transceiver tests failed. None of the ports are connected (no cables). The two built in Ethernet ports also passed loopback, and 1 passed the transceiver test (the other failed) - the transceiver that passed has a network cable installed.

Setting up a netra t1 105

all, i've got a netra t1 105 and am having trouble setting it up. i understand from the documentation that i can connect another sun box to it using the serial port. so i am doing just that with an ultra5 i have. i am using a null modem cable with db9 connectors, a straight-through cat-5 cable, and a db9-rj45 adapter to connect the two boxes. i have edited the /etc/remote file on the ultra5, changing the 'hardwire' line to use /dev/term/a like it says in the documentation for the netra. when i use "tip hardwire" on the ultra5, i get nothing. it says "connected" but there is nothing i can do except exit out of tip. i have also used /dev/term/b in /etc/remote). is there a flaw in my procedure? or is the netra dead? or something else? thanks.

Regardless your method to connect,
serial or bi-directional parallel or network,
for whatever task you might be doing,
on whatever hardware,
a direct cable will need to be a cross-over in some form
if you hope for two systems to be able to communicate.
Send from A must go to Receive on B.
Send on B must return to Receive on A.
If you choose to use a CAT5 cable, it needs to be a cross-over cable,
else you go through a hub or switch, which will do the "crossing" for you.
As to your other question...
If you hope to connect to ANY functional OS on a system by using networking protocols through network capable circuitry (Solaris or not Solaris), you can telnet or SSH to it and just log in as a proper pre-existing user. That's a capability of an OS, even an embedded one such as is on a LOM or RSC or System Controller.

The Sun system described in the original question will default its console to TTYa and not to its Ethernet port. It expects to communicate through proven (generic?) serial 9600,n,8,1 methodology. You'd be welcome to try the network connection but I don't think it'll work until you somehow reconfigure it to be your console, (but you would need to make a connection if you hope to reconfigure something).
My supposition with the original poster is that they somehow crossed their crossover and gave themselves a straight connection. Perhaps their RJ45-DB9 adapter was also a crossover device.
They haven't returned to update us with information on their progress.

Is it possible to configure hardware controlled RAID for the Netra T1 105?
If not, how is it possible to configure software RAID?

Netra T1 105 LOM & OBP

Hi, I bought a Netra T1 105 recently. I connected the LOM port (serial port A) to another Solaris 10 (x86) machine via a null modem cable and am able to see the boot messages and the lom propmpt too. The funny thing is the keyboard is neither responding at the lom prompt nor am I able to send a break signal to fall back to the OK prompt. How do I get my keyboard to tell LOM to drop to OBP? Please let me know.

My USB port (closest to the screen) is not working? And what is an IR Receiver in my USB port?

Hi everyone,
     I recently found out that my USB port, closest to my screen, is not working. Before I called Apple Care for help, I performed a PRAM and a SMC RESET, which unfortunately did not work. I called Apple Care and they help me troubleshoot simple resets such as, shutdowns and restarts. The representative I spoke with conluded that the physical hardware has an issue and must be brought to the Apple Store for a diagnosis. I called the Apple Store to at least budget the fee for getting a USB port fixed and it's about $300.00. I never dropped my macbook or had any sort tactile encounterment with hard surfaces by dropping or hitting. I don't understand how my macbook pro would be physically damaged. I then thought maybe my software was out of date (right now I am running 10.9 Mavericks) or I forgot to do the minor software updates, but I was at a lost again because my macbook is up-to-date. I searched for further help and found a way to monitor what's plugged into my usb ports. (I read in the apple forums that a girl had nothing in her usb ports, but upon looking at the System Information> Hardware> USB, that the macbook recognizes that there are drives in the ports) I looked at my ports; one is being used by wirless mouse (the port that works) and the other (the port that doesnt work) is being used by an "IR RECEIVER". Now, is the IR Receiver actually using that port and that's why my macbook cannot recognize other devices inserted into that port? Or is the IR RECEIVER suppose to be in that port and that the hardware for that port is simply damaged (which would mean I need $300.00 to get that fixed)? I know this is a lot, but someone help me?

I can help with the "IR Receiver" part of your question. That's the piece of hardware inside older MacBook Pros (MBPs) that lets them work with the Apple Remote. "IR" is the standard abbreviation for "infrared," the portion of the electromagnetic spectrum used by remotes for many common devices (stereos, cable boxes, Apple TVs, etc.). The remote sends a coded stream of IR pulses; a corresponding receiver in the target device "sees" the infrared light and decodes it. The MBP's internal IR Receiver sends the received signals to the processor via USB through an internal hub.
The most recent MacBook Pros have dropped the IR receiver and no longer work with the Apple Remote.

Syncing music with USB port 1.1

I just got an iPod classic 160GB, but it doesn't communicate with my computer properly.
I tried to put some songs to the new iPod, but after syncing 20 songs I got the error message "Attempting to copy to the disk "(iPod name)" failed. The disk could not be read from or written to."
I called AppleCare to solve the problem, and the guy told me that I need to upgrade the USB port from 1.1 to 2.0.
Does anybody know if I really need to upgrade my USB port to 2.0?
I read some of the topics on this discussion page and some people were saying that the USB 1.1 works with iPod classics.
I also want to know if any of the transfer cables which convert FireWire to USB2.0 works with iPods.
I don't want to spend any more money to upgrade my computer to make it work with my iPod.

The USB port on your Cinema is a port on the built-in hub in the display. It can't supply the power needed by the iPhone.

Try a different cable. And are you connecting directly to your computer or through a USB hub?

IPod is not recognized by my computer's usb port and itunes

Remove my ipod from the computer without ejecting it and now the ipod want turn on, it is not being recognized by my computer's usb port or itune. I have reinstalled itune and still have the same problems.

1. Update iTunes to the latest version. Plug in your iPod. If iTunes still can't recognize it, then in iTunes in the top left corner click help> run diagnostics. On the box that comes up, check the last two things. Click next and it should identify your iPod.
2. Click on your windows start menu. Type in "services". Click on it and when it pops up, on the bottom of it click on "standard". Now Scroll down to find "Apple Mobile Device" Right click it when you see it and click on "Start". When it has started, close iTunes and replug in your iPod and it should show up.
3. Check the USB cable
4. Verify that Apple Mobile Device Support is installed
5. Restart the Apple Mobile Device Service and verify that the Apple Mobile Device USB Driver is installed.
6. If you just want to add some photos, songs and movies from computer to your devices, you can use an iTunes alternative to do the job.

Non grounded HP Laptop have electrical feeling on usb ports

I am living here in the Philippines now and have brought my Hp laptop dv9000. Whenever I turn on the laptop with the AC I get this electrical feeling in the usb ports. When I run with the battery I feel no electricity. Since the AC can take a 100-240V input, the outlets here in the Philippines are 240V, it shouldnt have any problems. But the charger has a 3rd prong that is used as a ground, but the wall outlet only has 2.
To better understand by setup: 1. the electrical outlet has 2 prongs that lets out 240V, 2. I have and AVR (automatic voltage regulator) so I can lower the voltage for my, 3. UPS (uninterrupted power supply) that only takes in 110V. I plug in my AC charger to the UPS to power my computer.
So my question is what can I do now to stop the the electricity coming out of the usb ports? Do I need to install a grounded socket?

Have you tried restarting the laptop? Many times we get simply put the machine to sleep or hibernate- a full shutdown/restart can help with usb problems.
You might also try disabling "USB Selective suspend" in your Power Options plan.

How do I get rid of error code 2001/2006? My phone is in recovery mode. I have tried several different cords, all USB ports, my macbook, and a friends PC. This is the second time my phone has done this, the first time it was an easy fix.

I have an iPhone 4. It is in great condition, always protected. A couple months ago, it randomly went black and wouldn't turn on. I put it in recovery mode, plugged it in to my MacBook Pro and would get error code 2001 then I'd get error code 2006. I read some different forums and many people said to try using a different USB port and different cords. The last cord I tried, worked and my phone was back. Last night, my phone did the same exact thing. So I used the same method I used last time, however nothing has worked. I tried plugging it in to a PC and that didn't work either. This seems like a hopeless problem that's going to continue to happen. Any advice?

Soooooooo.... You obviously need to restore the device
It seems that you have tried several options to restore it. What I would do is leave it plugged it and hold down the Home button AND the Power button together till you see the white apple appears. Then let go of the Power button but continue to hold the home button. You should get the message in iTunes again saying that the iPhone needs to be restored. Hit OK then RESTORE.

Problems with USB port and song transferring;

Hi! I just got an iPod and I am having problems with it. My computer doesn't have a Hi-Speed USB port, even if it's 9 months old. Some of my friends don't have it either but they still are able to transfer songs onto their iPod. For mine, it keeps saying "Do Not Disconnect." I waited for 5 hours last time I got it and it still isn't working.
I also updated my iPod software today and the iPod icon isn't appearing on the bar to the left in iTunes. I'd really appreciate any help on this! As well as if I really need to do something about the ports or if it could function like this normally.

IPhone 6 won't play with Kenwood stereo USB port. Help !!

I have a Kenwood KDC-BT743U Stereo in my car, which has a front panel USB port. I've been able to connect my iPhone 4S and play music from my iTunes catalog as well as stream music from Pandora, Soundcloud, Tune In Radio, Mixcloud et al, without any problems until yesterday.....
Now that I've upgraded my phone to a iPhone 6 and when I connect it to the stereo via the USB port, it doesnt play at all. After about 2 minutes of trying to connect , I recieve a 'USB Error" . As I stated, I've had no problems with my iPhone 4S, which I've used with this same stereo deck for the last two years without any problem what so ever.
I'm looking for some guidance on next steps to take in order to fix the problem? Did Apple change the spec in some sort of way? Do I need to go to Kenwood for a firmware update (their website provides no information about iPhone 6 compatability with any of their stereo's which is very odd to me) ?
Please help, my life in the car during long commutes is just not the same......

Carplay negatively affects USB connection with Non-Carplay USB Audio Receivers.
I have the Iphone 6 with 8.3 iOS connected to Pioneer avh-41000dvd car stereo and the above solution fixed USB audio issues, including Error code 22-65.
If you are having issues upon reconnect, disconnect and bring Iphone to home screen and reconnect.

USB ports not working properly

I have a pavillion dv4 1123us - old. It is not recognizing usb devices - although the usb ports are still providing power. I have tried reinstalling the chipset and reinstalling the usb ports by deleting from device manager. Intermittently, my modem seems to fade in and out but is easy to reset - just annoying. I have tried to find a way to reinstall the bios but have been unsuccessful. Please give suggestions.

USB devices can be rather problematic as you probably already know. Thus I'd start the troubleshooting process in this situation by plugging devices (one at a time) directly into the Mac, dispensing with the hub, to see whether problems continue or not. If they do, then it means the hub is not to blame while it the problems don't recur, the hub is the culprit and would warrant being replaced.
Be aware however, that since USB is controlled by the CPU, the rate at which data streams is dependent to some degree on what else the system is doing. Thus you can help reduce issues by ensuring the system isn't busy with other tasks while you have something critical going on via USB. Or, as you discovered with MP3 playback, use firewire instead. Firewire is controlled by a dedicated controller, so performance doesn't vary with system load. That's why it is generally recommended that for situations where data needs to be streamed to or from external devices such as video cameras, hard drives, DVD burners etc, these are best connected via FW rather than USB.

How can I test the usb port on my Time Capsule to see if it is working?

Ever since lightening struck nearby (which took out our internet and copy machine) the printer I had connected to the usb port on my Time Capsule in my office has has failed to print through the TC. I can plug the printer directly into my MacBookAir and can print just fine. So there is nothing wrong with the printer nor the usb cable.
I've turned off and unplugged the printer with the usb cable connected & disconnected to the TC, no change. I've unplugged the TC, no change. I've opened the printer utility several times, and always get the "offline" error. I open the print queue, and it says the printer is not connected. I reinstalled the driver for the printer, still the same thing.
I'm starting to wonder if the usb port on my Time Capsule got fried. Any help anyone can give in trying to see if the usb port even functions anymore would be greatly appreciated.

Power is not likely to be killed .. it is the data components that are more fragile.
So you do have power which as you say is why the USB flashes.. but you don't have signal.
The only other thing you can do is use USB powered hub.. if you have one handy.. but I would not go out and buy one.
A damaged board is impossible (at cost less than replacement TC) to repair. And repairers do not like working on stuff damaged by lightning as components that did survive were stressed.. the transistor junctions become liable to fail at any time.. so you repair it and it just keeps coming back as not working. Sorry if you cannot use it without USB junk it and buy a replacement. A second hand Gen3 is about the best of them it seems.
You can also buy an ethernet to USB print server.. but a new ethernet or wireless network printer is probably near to the same price.
You can hunt ebay for second hand USB print servers.. or airport express, extreme or TC.. often you can find something suitable for just a few dollars if you shop well. Since you don't need the latest greatest to do this sort of job.. and people are disposing of things like USB print servers as soon as they buy network printers.
