  • HP Support Assistant stopped working after HP Network Check Helper was installed

My computer model: HP Pavilion SlimLine s5-1160 desktop with Windows 7 64-bit Media Center
While I was away from my computer this morning HP installed HP Network Check Helper. When I returned there was a message that I needed to restart the computer. Upon restarting I received the same message. After trying several more times I disabled the helper using Manage Add-ons, but the restart computer message keeps appearing. When I tried to open HP Support Assistant it would not open, but instead the restart message popped up. In HP Setup Manager I clicked on Get Assistance, then Launch Support Assistant, and got....the restart message. If I open HP's Windows Help and Support and click on "Contact Support (Get in touch with someone at HP)" I get....the restart message. I re-installed HP Support Assistant with the latest version on the the HP website. Upon restarting the computer I got....the restart message.
So, the computer keeps telling me I need to restart it, HP Support Assistant will not open, and I can't obtain an HP support number to call by clicking on "Contact Support (Get in touch with someone at HP)". Does anyone know a number I can call to "Get in touch with someone at HP"?
    Thanks.

HP Support Assistant indicates that "Restart needed" and also "HP Network Check Helper" add-on asking whether to Enable or Don't Enable. What is the HP Network Check Helper?

    Hi,
The "HP Network Check is a comprehensive network diagnostic that can automatically diagnose, repair and easily help you troubleshoot the issue that is preventing your network or Internet from functioning correctly."
The HP Network check is part of the HP Support Assistant.  Is the above what you are referring to?
You will find HP Network Check under the Internet and Security topics in latest version of HP Support Assistant.

  • HP Network checker with trademark symbol is enabled but unavailable in add-ons.

Hp Pavilion with Windows 7(64bit) updated to IE11 (64bit and 32bit).  Why is HP Network checker with the trademark  symbol enabled but listed as unavailable in manage add-ons. There is another one without the trademark listed under HP that is enabled and available? I'm asking because the HP Network Checker (cannot show this webpage) is bleeding in or only half way showing/covering part of the webpage I am on..example ehow webpage. This just started, I think I'm on the 64bit now, if I go to Help, About Internet Explorer it doesn't say if I am using 64bit (anymore).

    Hello again pleaseneedhelp,
And is the page displaying correctly now? You originally stated "I'm asking because the HP Network Checker (cannot show this webpage) is bleeding in or only half way showing/covering part of the webpage I am on". I am curious as to whether or not the webpage is displaying correctly now?

  • Network checking

    Hello all,
I need small help. Please help me.
In one of my application, I’m downloading some data from server.
Before downloading, I need to check network connection (is it OK/Not).
I’m using below snippet for checking the network connection but it is taking 20sec (Average).
I want to reduce this time. Is there is any better idea?

In this case ping is probably a good choice,  if the Check if File or folder exists.vi takes much longer. You could even reduce the waiting time of the reply with the -w option.
ping -n 1 -w 20 server_name will send just a single request and wait 20 milliseconds before timeout.
The screenshot in your post shows that the ping timed out, but the connection check is TRUE. You need to parse the response instead of checking the string length. For example, use the Match Pattern function to find if 'Lost = 0' is present in the output.
Much easier and better is to check the return code of the System Exec. The return code is 0 if the ping was successful and 1 if there was an error.
I am not sure what is the return code when the ping times out, but it is 1 when the server was not found.

OK, if your printer is connected to the router (2wire routers are not the greatest), then the problem is likely in your PC or it security system.

  • Unable to print from MacBookPro to printer in Windows network

    Hi,
I am trying to print from a MacBookPro on an HP printer connected to a desktop computer running Windows Vista.
    MacBookPro  - running Mac OS X 10.7.5; 2 GHz Intel Core 7; 4 GB 1333 MHz DDR3
Windows desktop computer - Acer Aspire M1100 running Windows Vista Home Premium SP2 32-bit; 2.1 GHz AMD Athlon X2 Dual Core
Printer - HP Deskjet F2210 All-in-one (printer, scanner), connected to Windows Desktop via USB (direct, not hub)
Wired/Wireless environment - Motorola SBG900 Cable Modem, to which the Windows Desktop is connected either wirelessly or via Ethernet cable
The printer will print documents when connected directly to MacBookPro via USB, but over the network, this is showing:
On MacBookPro: In the printer queue, the message shows, "Waiting for print job to complete..."
On the Windows Desktop: In the printer queue, the size of the document comes up as ...KB/...KB (in my case, 10.7 KB/13.8 KB) - won't change, number of pages "N/A"
On the printer front panel: blinking On/Off button light (blinking slowly, suggesting printer is still busy) - the printer will start to kick into action, but the only thing happening is that blinking light...
... and that's it! From there, there is no more progress (even after 10-20 minutes); you have to cancel the print job on both the MacBookPro and the Windows Desktop.
This is what I have tried already:
Making sure both machines are in the same network (check)
Making sure both are in the same subnet (check)
Deactivating Windows firewall and the firewall in the router/gateway (does not solve issue)
Logging in to Windows Desktop over Finder on the Mac using a user name that is the same on both machines (does not solve issue)
Deleting Keychain Access stored passwords in case they were incorrect (does not solve issue)
Making sure drivers for printer are up-to-date on both MacBookPro and Windows Desktop (check)
Deleting the printer from the MacBookPro and letting the system find it by itself when printer  connected directly via USB (does not solve issue)
I have also tried installing the printer as described in Apple Support article HT3049 (How to manually add a Windows shared printer.) It seems like there are two ways to add a printer, one is by using the "Windows" button in the "Add printer" window toolbar, the other is by using the "Advanced" button. Both did not help.
I exchanged the printer cartridges, since low ink levels apparently can also cause errors when printing in a network (read that somewhere here - but does not solve issue either.)
In order to see if the Windows version has something to do with it, I connected a Windows 7 laptop to the printer and tried to print from the MacBook wirelessly to it (no success there, either).
When printing first when we got the MacBookPro, I think it worked to print over the network, but for whatever reason, things won't budge at the moment. (I guess, it's a driver issue, but the drivers are up-to-date.) I must be doing something wrong, I just don't seem to be able to figure out what, so any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you in advance.

  • Can't reinstall Officejet Pro 8000 A809N driver on wired network

Computer is running Windows XP with service pack 3 and all updates installed.  When I tried to print two days ago, I received an error message that no printer was installed.  I had printed earlier in the week without problems.  I checked the Printer and Faxes folder in Control Panel, and it was empty.  I believe it normally showed the HP printer as well as a Windows Fax print-to-file routine there.
When I clicked on Add a Printer in the Printer folder, I was told that the Print Spooler was not running.  I ran "services.msc" from the Run command, and restarted the Print Spooler.  I went back to the Printer folder, tried to reinstall the printer, and again it said the Print Spooler was not running.  I restarted the Print Spooler again, and tried to look at Server Properties from the Printer folder file tab, and again it said the Print Spooler was not running (it is set to automatic restart).  I've checked several related dll and exe files against their backups, and they don't appear to be corrupted.  I scanned the hard drive for errors, and none were found.
I tried the built-in diagnostics of the HP software, and all I got was error messages that the Print Spooler was stopped.  I came to the HP website, downloaded and installed two additional troubleshooting programs, which did not help.  HP Home Network Diagnostic Utility says "software not installed", although nothing had been deleted, and still ran from the Start menu.  HP Print Diagnostic Utility 4.1 states there is an issue with the print spooler, and to click "Fix".  Clicking Fix opens a window stating to select the printer to troubleshoot, then press "Diagnose".  No printer appears in the list though, so it states to install the software.
Therefore, I downloaded both the full and the limited install programs from the website and tried both several times.  I ran the uninstall program of the existing installation from the Start menu without problems and rebooted.  When I tried to reinstall though, I kept getting errors.  Generally, the "hpnwchk" program (HP network check) opens in a dos screen, displays a long string of  "Printer :  (null)" lines, then crashes.  The program then tells me that the printer is already installed to the TCP/IP port, and needs to be removed first.  I click the option to "Fix" the TCP/IP port option.  The installation program then continues, and brings up a window showing the correct information for my printer (it even wakes it from the standby mode).  I select the printer from the list, and the install continues until receiving another error, stating that "arguments are incorrect", and that the installation has failed.  I think the "arguments" are setting for the TCP/IP port, which differ between what it is being set  from the current drivers and what was previously installed.
I've run the uninstall routine several times, and also manually deleted the printer folder from the registry using REGEDIT (HKCU/Printer).  It seems to me that there is a conflict somewhere that keeps stopping the print spooler (it is set to auto restart).  Also, the uninstall routine is not completely uninstalling, as it always says that the printer is already installed when I run the installation routines, and displays it's correct parameters.  I Googled and read just about everything I can find on the subject, and I'm stumped.  Where else could the TCP/IP settings be stored in the Registry, and what else is being missed on the uninstall?
Some additional information on my setup - the printer has been installed for about 2 years with no issues.  I can still print without problems from another computer on our home wired network.  I opened Vista on this very computer on a separate drive partition, and had no trouble installing and using the printer through Vista, which seems to eliminate any possible hardware issues (I never found it worth the effort to move over to Vista after trying it; only use it now as a back-up to XP on the computer).  In the past week, I installed an update for Adobe Reader, and Microsoft Security Essentials stopped a Java Script Trojan.  I believe Windows also installed it's monthly anti-virus update.  All virus scans have been negative.  Beyond that, there has been no other hardware or software changes.
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

I found a solution to the problem, through early morning inspiration.  I thought as everything disappeared from the Printer folder, and kept being told that the printer was installed, that I would delete and reinstall other drivers that may (or may not) have been in the folder.  I seemed to recall that I had the generic Fax driver installed, and the Microsoft XPS Document Writer installed.  I went to "Add/Remove Windows Components", and deleted Fax Services.  I then went to the Printer file, clicked Add a Printer, and didn't receive the error message that the Print Spooler wasn't running, ect.  I then had no problem reinstalling the HP printer, Fax, and XPS drivers.

    If your network configuration is:
Cable modem > (Ethernet cable) > [WAN] AEBS > (wireless) > Macs, then
AirPort Extreme Base Station Setup (AEBS) w/High-Speed Cable Modem
    Modem/Router Power ReCycling
    - Power-off the Cable modem, AEBS, & computer(s). (If possible, leave the modem off overnight.)
    - Power-on the Cable modem; Wait at least 30 minutes.
    - Power-on the AEBS; Wait at least 5 minutes.
    - Power-on the computer(s)
Perform a "hard" reset of the AEBS.
    - (ref: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107451)
    Setup the AEBS
With the network components powered down, set up the AEBS, using the AirPort Admin Utility, connect your computer directly (using an Ethernet cable) to the LAN port of the AEBS, and then, try these settings:
    AirPort tab
    - Base Station Name: <whatever you wish or use the default>
    - AirPort Network Name: <whatever you wish or use the default>
    - Create a closed network (unchecked)
    - Wireless Security: Not enabled
    - Channel: Automatic
    - Mode: 802.11b/g Compatible
    Internet tab
    - Connect Using: Ethernet
    - Configure: Using DHCP
    - WAN Ethernet Port: Automatic
    Network tab
    - Distribute IP addresses (checked)
    - Share a single IP address (using DHCP & NAT) (enabled)
Once you verified that you can get Internet access for all of your computers, you should secure your wireless network. To do so, I suggest that you make these changes:
    AirPort tab (optional)
    - Create a closed network (checked)
    Change Wireless Security
    - Wireless Security: WPA Personal
Base Station Options - WAN Ethernet Port
    - Enable SNMP Access (unchecked)
    - Enable Remote Configuration (unchecked)
    - Enable Remote Printer Access (unchecked)
    Wireless Options
    - Transmitter Power: 10%
    Access Control tab (optional)
    - + <add the computer(s) that will access this wireless network>

  • HP8500A all-in-one can no longer scan thru wireless network but prints fine.

HP8500A all-in-one can no longer scan thru wireless network but prints fine. Have used this device several times over past 2 years on different wireless networks (at home) but usually at some point I lose wireless scan function but maintain wireless Printing.  I used to be able to reload the software and resolve the issue but now in this "new network" cannot get wireless scanning to work.   Setup software; original software (CD) and current download as well as "Print/Scan Dr"  hangs-up at "network check"  for hours.  Compaq laptop, Dell Laptop, Cell phones and Roku work fine thru network.  Scanner works fine with USB to Laptops.

    Which model Epsons are they?
I'm assuming you're using Yosemite (OS X 10.10), and that the problem developed when you upgraded from a previous OS.
    (Your profile says 10.6.7 BTW).
Maybe the scanning function is not compatible with Yosemite.
You could try a few things:
    reset your wifi system:
power down everything: modem, router, computer, printer/scanners.
    wait a minute.
power them all up again, in that order: modem, router, computer, printers. Let each power up completely before going on to the next.
try a factor reset on your printer/scanner (if there is such a function). You'll have to check your manual for how. If you do that you'll have to enter the wifi password in your printer/scanner, assuming you have security on your network.
uninstall any printer manufacturer "utilities" that are on your Mac, and try Image Capture again.
If it is a compatible software issue, you could try VueScan, but I've never needed to use it.

  • IPhone shows connected to network, but no wifi icon, not Router or DNS listed

Hi.  Just purchased an iPhone 4g for my daughter.  Am trying to connect to our home wifi network.  My phone works fine, shows I'm connected, shows IP, Subnet Mask, router, DNS.  The new phone shows it's connected in settings / Wifi Networks (check mark) but them there is only the IP address and Subnet Mask listed, no DNS or Router.  Have tried rebooting, forgetting network and starting over, turning wifi on and off, turning airplane setting on and off.
What is going on?  Husband had similar issues with iPod touch, but can remember how he resolved it.  All of our Mac laptops can connect to the home wifi network.
Thanks in advance for any insights!

Same problem here and I can't find a solution either.

  • HP Software finds the printer, but then "the printer was unable to be installed over the network"

I have tried to search for a similar issue, but haven't had any success yet.  I doubt I'm the first with this problem!
The computer is XP SP3, the printer is Deskjet 3050A, and it's a WPA-PSK WiFi.
The printer confirms that it is connected to the WiFi.
When I run the setup tool on the computer, at the Network Check point, the setup software finds the printer at the correct IP address.  It is the only thing it discovers.
I click next, ànd after a minute or two, I get the error "the printer was unable to be installed over the wireless network"  Click Retry to try installing the printer over the network again, or click Cancel to return to the connection options.
This just cycles with no progress.  I have turned off the Windows Firewall and also disabled the AV.  No change.
I can browse to the web interface of the printer - but still can't install the printer.  It is listed in the Printers and Faxes as being Offline.
I'll try once again removing it, and re-adding it - but has anyone come across this problem before, please?

I am having a similar problem as well.  The printer is recognized (most of the time) when I run the HP Network DIagnostic Utility.  However, when I run the Add a Device setup program to install my wireless printer, it is NEVER recognized.  I have even tried to use the advvanced serach to locate it using the IP listed in the Diagnostic Utility without any luck.  As an aside, I was able to add the printer through windows just fine and am currently able to print to it, but would really like to add it using the HP installation so that I can configure the "scan to" settings again.
To make matters worse, I no longer have the USB cord that came with the printer because the device has been connected wirelessly for over a year now with minimal issues.  Any help getting this brick back online and connected to my network would be much appreciated!

  • Windows 7 / HP OfficeJet Pro 8600: Unsuccessful Network Installation

    OS: Windows 7 Professional 64-bit
    Printer: HP OfficeJet Pro 8600
My goal is to enable the "Scan to Computer" feature of my HP OfficeJet Pro 8600 on Windows 7, which doesn't find my computer when I try to use it from the printer's front panel touchscreen. The printer's connected to my local wifi network.
In the setup program on the included CD, I've opted NOT to install any software aside from the "HP OfficeJet Pro 8600 Basic Device Software", which installs fine. I also opt NOT to install the "ePrint" web services or allow it to connect to the network for updates or share usage statistics or any of that.
During the setup program, the "Network Check" correctly finds the printer on my local wifi network, but the following "Network Printer Installation" part always fails, resulting in "Unsuccessful Network Installation", no other details. The result is the same if I retry with Microsoft Security Essentials' "Real-time protection" off, or with Windows Firewall off. No other anti-virus is running.
The "HP Scan" program fails immediately with the error message "The HP OfficeJet Pro 8600 was not found."
Under Control Panel > "Devices and Printers" I see an HP OfficeJet Pro 8600. Windows installs and prints with this printer just fine without the provided CD.
Under Control Panel > "Device Manager" the printer is NOT listed under "Imaging Devices".
My Windows Image Acquisition (WIA) service is running.
    Any clues?

(I never managed to solve this, how did this get marked "Solved?")
I'd be happy with either means of starting a scan. Here are some things I've tried since my last post (sorry, I gave up on this for 2 months and am now trying to get it working again):
I've got the printer connected by USB as well as on the network, and running the software installer with the USB connection option just gets stuck forever at the "Connect the USB Cable" screen. The USB cable is connected.
Under "Scanner Actions" on the HP Printer Assistant application, clicking "Manage Scan to Computer" reports: "Scan to Computer is enabled. You can start a scan from the printer. Your computer is not listed as an available computer on the printer's control panel. Please restart your printer and try again." Tried restarting/unplugging the printer, but that doesn't change anything.
The HP Print and Scan Doctor's first screen reports the State as "Installed" for USB and "Not Installed" for the network. It returns these results for the various steps of "Fix Scanning":
    Device Manager: Pass
Driver check: Fail ("The Scan driver is unable to communicate with the product.")
Windows (WIA) scan: Fail (no information given, other than instructions to reboot)
HP Twain scan: Fail ("Scanner communication cannot be established..." dialog)
    Registry: Pass
    HP Scan: Pass
Since my last post I've also updated the printer's firmware, which seemed to work fine. It's now on firmware version CLP1CN1304AR.
The Windows event log reports several warnings from the software installer saying "Failed to connect to server. Error: 0x800401F0" with Event ID 1015, is this important? Tried it again with Windows Firewall off for both public and private networks, no difference.
