Network connecting mac to pc wirelessly

does anyone here have any idea how i could wirelessly connect my MBP to my PC, which is currently running vista? or if that is not possible, then via any other means?
thanks!

what are you trying to "connect" to.... you want to view certain files?... then on the vista computer you have to have the proper permissions set on the file(s) that you want to view on your mac.... as far as screen sharing (not sure if you meant that)... i have not attempted to try this so i have no advice...

  • Connecting Mac to PC wireless

How do I connect my new Macbook Pro to my Dell M90 laptop (Windows XP SP3)via wireless cards in the laptops while keeping my internet connection (ethernet) on the PC? I have no internet connection on the Mac (nor do I need one in this environment). I just want to be able to exchange files between the two without using my thumb drive. Thanks.

You can create an ad-hoc wireless network on the PC - but then you cannot use the wireless card on the PC for connecting to the internet.
assuming you have a wired ethernet connection for the PC - or that you do not need to keep internet connectivity on the PC during the file transfer - open the properties on the wireless card on the PC and on the wireless networks tab - click the Advanced button - the choose Computer to Computer (ad-hoc) networks only. That is the main part of the setup - if you do turn on internet connection sharing on the wired port you will automatically get DHCP and such on the wireless - not sure if I have tried the ad-hoc without having another live connection.
or you could start the other way and turn on internet sharing on the mac side and make the mac a wireless access point - even though it does not have a wired connection - then add that wireless network to the PC's list of networks.

  • HP 175nw Problems with Wireless Network Connection - Mac OS X 10.8.3

    Please help!
I have an HP 175nw, from one day to the next it decided it was no longer going to connect to the wirless connection.
    I run a Mac on 0S X 10.8.3.
I can't find the installation software (the whole software not just the driver) on the web and the CD is worthless b/c this is a Mac.
I installed the printer on my windows laptop and it works fine, it connected to the wireless network using the setting sets on my laptop, it now prints wireless no problem, but not with the Mac.
I have plugged the printer directly into the Mac but the Mac doesn't even seem to recognize it.  The printer shows up on my printer list but when I try to print or scan from it the Mac says the printer is offline.
I need this printer/scanner for work desperately,  Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

  • Connecting Mac mini to wireless

We bought an older mac mini that we're trying to connect to our wireless network. It doesn't have an airport card. We have an airport extreme that we've connected to our wireless network, and then plugged the ethernet cable into the mini. We still can't get it to connect to the internet.
Anyone know what we are doing wrong here? Thanks so much.

You can join a wireless network.. but this puts the Extreme in client mode.. not bridge.. so the extreme is a dumb client.. no wap, no switch, no nothing.. it is totally useless.
Is there anything else I can do?
    -or-
do you have a good recomendation for a USB wireless stick?
Use ethernet or EOP (homeplug) adapters.
Use a Netgear bridge. Or some universal bridge that works with the netgear.
I do not have a recommendation on USB wireless.. to be truthful I avoid them like the plague.. USB is not a great interface .. at least up to latest usb3 and you won't have one of those..
What I would do is buy a second hand extreme or express which are pretty cheap now and make the bridge between apple routers.

  • Connecting mac book pro wirelessly with hp printer

I am unable to connect my new mac book pro with my hp G85xi wirelessly. I am able to connect utilizing my other pc computers (laptop and desktop; this is my first mac). Could anyone provide help with this?

Right now, it's impossible to diagnose your issue. First, I would want to see if your MBP works on another monitor. I'd bring it to an Apple Store, I'm sure they'd let you try. Bring your own cable, just in case that's the issue. If it works there, then you know it's your LG monitor.
Something is wrong with either your monitor or the cable. I don't think it's your MBP.

  • RE: Network Connect of a WMP100N Wireless card Thru a WRT54G Router

Well, I disabled the Zonealarm personal firewall. No change in connectivity. The card acquires the router, has super signal strength, and no internet. I've even tried re-doing the connection profile. I have noticed a minor difference in security settings. The router is configured WPA with PSK using TKIP + AES. The card gives me the option of either TKIP or AES (not the plus) Probably doesn't matter since the card only acquires the router when TKIP is chosen. I have also noticed when I tried using the rightclick repair option that windows lists encryption as disabled. If the card security settings match that of the router and access is established, isn't encryption enabled? Re-enabled the wired card and immediately established and internet connection. Am lost as to why I can't get internet thru the wireless card. There is an IP address and standard subnet mask. There just is a blank gateway, DNS and etc.

Well, I may have made a mistake. I spent some time on Live Chat with no real success. After all that, I decided to update firmware for the router. Here's where I may have goofed. Rather than use the old way to update, I used the linksys upgrade application. It did upgrade the router. Unfortunately, it seems to have corrupted my OS installation. I can't get XP (SP2) to properly shutdown. It goes partway thru the process, then I hear a click, the fans start whirring and it reboots. I end up having to push and hold the power button for shut off. Not a good solution. Any ideas? I am considering uninstalling the wireless card and doing a system restore pre-card. (BTW, the wireless card worked after the firmware update (although the connection does drop fairly often without any other 2.4 competing devices)

  • Mac Pro Drops Wireless Connection to Airport Extreme

I have a Mac Pro and every time I leave the machine for several hours when I return the Airport signal strength indicator is blank and I have to re-choose my network name to get back on the network.
As background, my Mac Pro is setup to never go to sleep as it is hosting some web sites, the only thing that sleeps is the display, so I don't think it is any kind of issue on wake from sleep . . . it just drops the signal at some point.
Has anyone ever heard of this kind of issue? It has always been this way and I just moved my Mac Pro to a location in my house where a wired connection is no longer feasible so I really want to try and resolve it... THANKS
Mac Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

Slow connections, weak signal, dropped, lost signal after sleep...
While Apple has a good "troubleshooting networking" the Mac Pro using Wireless has had more of its own. I would pick up a Netgear router, go wired.

  • 2nd Computer Requires a Manual Wireless Network Connection Setting on Powerup

2nd Computer Requires a Manual Wireless Network Connection Setting on Powerup
On power-up, my 2nd computer, a 3 yo IBM R51, requires that I open the Network Connections window, then set the Wireless Network Connection Properties under the Wireless Network Tab, clicking on "Use Windows to configure my wireless network settings", before the automatic connection launches to the WRT150N v1.1 router signal.
I just bought the router and have the latest firmware.
My primary computer does not require the above settings change every time.
Is there a selection I can make so this is automatic on power-up or restart of my 2nd computer?

It was already set to automatic on both extended and standard tabs.
For a good measure, I set it to disable, applied, then reset it to automatic and applied again. Still does same thing.
I notice that if I double click on the small icon for the Intel ProWireless Network Card, I get a Wireless Connection Status Window.
This window has a Wireless Settings section where it seems to have a possibly obsolete "Current Location Profile" called ssnetwork (the name of my old network on my old D-Link router that I just changed out for the Linksys.
Anyway, the Network Name (SSID) field is now blank but when it first came up, it had the new name of the network I'm using.
Do you know how I access this "Current Location Profile" so I can edit it and possibly enter my new network name?
There is a button at the bottom of the screen called "Modify WLAN Settings" that I click but nothing launches when I do so.
Now that I manually did the connection setting, my network name appears in the "Current Location Profile."

  • Imac 10.7.5 drops all network connections

I am using an iMac 10.7.5 that has started to drop the network connection (both ethernet and wireless). Using in a corporate environment on a Cisco switch. No other computers on this switch losing their connections. Have an Mac Book Pro that can connect on the same switch without a problem. I have deleted preferences and restarted but it still drops. Will last about 30 minutes then it drops. The only way to restore it is to restart. Have repaired permissions ad nauseum. Tried booting to recovery (Command-R on startup) but it just goes to my login screen. Trying not to reinstall OS but may have to. Any other suggestions?

There are 9 different versions of iPhoto and they run on 9 different versions of the Operating System. The tricks and tips for dealing with issues vary depending on the version of iPhoto and the version of the OS. So to get help you need to give as much information as you can. Include things like:
    - What version of iPhoto.
    - What version of the Operating System.
    - Details. As full a description of the problem as you can. For example, if you have a problem with exporting, then explain by describing how you are trying to export, and so on.
    - History: Is this going on long? Has anything been installed or deleted? - Are there error messages?
    - What steps have you tried already to solve the issue.
    - Anything unusual about your set up? Or how you use iPhoto?
Anything else you can think of that might help someone understand the problem you have.

  • How to deal with a shared network connection when installing 10 EX

I am in the process of setting up a Virtual PC XP environment on my Vista Business machine to load Oracle EX in the virtual environment. I am having an issue of receiving a shared network connection with my broadband wireless card within the virtual XP SP3 environment, which Internet access is required for the Oracle EX installation. I checked out a couple tech sites and could not find a solution. I might have to get an Internet access at home from TWC.
How to resolve this conflict? Thanks.

I am not sure how +"I am having an issue of receiving a shared network connection with my broadband wireless card within the virtual XP SP3 environment"+ can be resolved on an Oracle forum? There are probalby Windows experts on the forum but I would personally aim for a Windows forum.
You may want to double check if Oracle XE is even running in a Virtual PC environment before starting this exercise.

  • Mac fails to connect to non-Apple wireless network (& changing channel?)

[sorry to post this in two forums - I think I posted it in the wrong one before]
I have a wireless network set up from a Netgear wireless router. My Windows XP computer automatically connects to the network every time. But my Mac (OS X 10.4.11) only connects about 50% of the time. The rest of the time it says "None of your trusted wireless networks could be found." Then when I click the airport icon in top right and select the network from the list, it says "There was an error joing the Airport network [network name]." When I click "Try again" a few times, it sometimes eventually connects, but other times it fails repeatedly. It is completely unpredictable.
I have been looking for solutions on the internet. Lots of other people have problems connecting Macs to non-Apple wireless networks. But no one else seems to have this exact problem: my Mac connects some of the time, but not all. Anyone have any suggestions?
(One idea I found was to change the channel that the Mac tries to use. How do I do this? I can't find "channel" anywhere under System Preferences - Network - Airport.)
All OSs are fully updated, so that is not the problem.

I travel extensively, and both my I-Mac G5 and Intel MacBook are very inconsistent in this regard. I do not think it is a router issue given the variety of networks I try to access. Additionally frustrating once a connection is made is that Internet Connect or Network Status will say I am connected to the Internet via Airport, yet Safari and Mail say I am not connected to the Internet.
Network Diagnostics has never had an answer. More often than not i end up using my cellular card. but the Mac often has issues with that too... sporadic like first poster describes.

  • Lost connection to wireless network on Mac Pro

My network infrastructure at home is as follows:
An Airport Extreme links to my DSL modem.
One Mac Pro is connected to the Airport Extreme via Ethernet.
One Airport Express extends the wireless network.
Another Mac Pro connects to the extended wireless network.
One Airport Express is used for Airtunes.
There are also a PS3 and an Xbox 360 in the wireless network.
Since this morning the "wireless" Mac Pro cannot see the wireless network anymore. I did not change any notwork settings and my wireless network is still saved as preferred network. Airport in OSX just cannot see it. However, I can see our neighbors' networks, so I assume Airport is working in the Mac. Upon login I get a dialog box prompting me to select a wireless network. My own network is not listed.
All Airport base stations have a green light and show up as working fine in the Airport Utility on the "wired" Mac.
When I use my iPod touch in the room with the "wireless" I can log into the wireless network without any problems. When I unplug the Airport Express station extending the network, the iPod's connection is much weaker or even breaks off. Thus I assume the network is fine and the base stations are indeed working properly.
I did not change anything in the hardware or software configuration. So I am flabbergasted as to what caused the loss of connectivity.
Any ideas, what I could try to get the "wireless" Mac connected again?
The pearls of wisdom from the Mac community are highly appreciated.
    Cheers,
    Mustrum

I've spent some time with AppleCare on this issue. They had me trash some preferences files, then run the Disk Utility to "Repair Disk Permissions" on my hard drive. They said this should fix it if it's a software issue, but if not then it's an Airport hardware issue, and I should take my MacBook to the Apple Store for repair.
    FOLLOW THESE STEPS
1 - Trash these prefs files from your Library:
    - com.apple.airport.preferences.plist
    - NetworkInterfaces.plist
    - preferences.plist
    2 - Restart computer.
3 - Go to your Network Preferences and define a new location. Then click on the little gear icon to "Set Service Order" and put Airport at the top. Click Apply.
4 - Open Disk Utility and select your hard drive. Click on the button that says "Repair Disk Permissions". You'll see some warnings etc.
This should work for both Tiger and Leopard. I upgraded over the weekend.

  • Wireless network between mac + PC keeps failing to connect.

Both of my computers my Macbook and my HP PC are connected on the same wireless internet connection with the same IP address the same server name and everything. I have been through both devices and enabled every sharing setting could find and think about.
I need this wireless network to get printer sharing online. as the PC has the printer connected via USB to it. If anyone can assist please do.
    Thanks,
    Connor.

Ok I got the PC to see my HP 940c wirelessly using Bonjour. However, I still can't get the Lexmark 2250 to show up on either the mac or pc wirelessly when connected to the hub? Is using a 4-port hub connected to the Airport express just not going to cut it for making a multiple printer hub?
I'd really like to do this plus make an network between the two computers.

  • Connect Asus Netbook (PC) to Mac Airport Express wireless network

I'm very happy with my PowerBook G4 but recently bought a Asus Netbook as a light weight travel option. Had problems connecting the Netbook to my home AirPort Express system - it's set up as a wireless connection to PowerBook G4.
The Netbook asked for the AirPort password, but then wouldn't accept it. The Apple phone support people tried to be helpful but thought that changing my Wireless Network password would help. It didn't.
Eventually I found a good article that explained the Netbook actually wanted the Mac/Airport WEP key, even though it asked for a 'password'. The article also explained where to find the WEP key on the Mac, and that I had to uncheck the box on the Netbook that says something like 'The key is provided via 802.1x authentication'.
Not sure if I'm allowed to post the address to that article, but will attempt to do so here:
    htpp://www.macwindows.com/airportpc.html
    Hope this helps someone else.

Hello MacNet2. Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
PCs, like Macs, can access wireless networks that use a number of encryption standards: WEP, WPA, WPA2, 802.1x.
WEP is the oldest standard and is no longer considered secure. Your new Asus should support the newer WPA & WPA2 standards. Both are not only significantly more secure, but are also easy to work with when using mixed OS clients. Both the older 802.11b/g or newer 802.11n version of the AirPort Express Base Station (AX) support all of these standards.
Is there some reason that you wireless network is still using WEP?

  • How to Connect my PC to Mac Mini Airport wirelessly?

This may be more of a PC question, but I'm trying to connect my PC laptop to my mac mini.
I turned on internet sharing on the Mini.
I can see my Airport wireless network on the PC, it says I'm connected.
I do not have a password enabled on the airport network.
The PC browser says it cannot find the server and will not load a webpage even though the wireless network connection window says I'm connected to my wireless network.
    any ideas?

I would unplug the AirPort Express at this point and see if you can get the Internet sharing with the PC configured.
My Mac mini is connected to the internet by Ethernet cable to my ISP's gateway. I am sharing the Ethernet connection to two iPod Touches via AirPort from my Mac mini. These are the steps for internet sharing from Ethernet to AirPort. See if you have followed them correctly in configuring your kit.
    1. In Sys Prefs/Sharing I highlighted Internet Sharing (do not check the box)
    2. Share your connection from: Ethernet (from the dropdown menu)
    3. To computers using: AirPort (check the little box)
    4. Press the button AirPort Options...
    5. Name your Network
    6. I use Automatic for the channel
    7. I encrypt my network using a 40-bit WEP key
    8. For a non-Apple device you must use only a 5 alphanumeric character, 40-bit WEP password or only a 13 alphanumeric character 128-bit WEP password
    9. Press OK
    10. Check the box for Internet Sharing
    11. Answer any dialog boxes that pop up
    If everything on the Mac end is correct then the issue may lie with the PC since Windows is much more picky about how it is configured. Here is an article that may assist you in getting the PC correct;
    http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/how-to-share-the-internet-connection-between-your-m ac-and-a-pc/
Other things that you could try is to name your network with a short name without spaces, such as your Apple Discussions User Name. Also create WEP passwords of only 5 or 13 alphanumerics. Some also suggest an All Caps password.
