Never ending "pseudo-device: devinfo0" messages in /var/adm/messages

Hi,
we are running a machine that generates the following two messages continously (with a time space of 5sec.).
[...] genunix: [ID 936769 kern.info] devinfo0 is /pseudo/devinfo@0
[...] [ID 129642 kern.info] pseudo-device: devinfo0
During the machine is in this cycle you can not connect via ssh or other services.
What is the job of devinfo0???
What is the reasen for the continous messages?

Hmm, i wonder if the devinfo messages are the problem or just a symptom of another problem..
I have no good idea of what would cause this problem, but i'ld suggest that you add the latest Solaris 8 patch cluster, in particular if the box haven't been patched lately.
You could also check what processes which are running, and try to determine if anyone of them seems to be missbehaving.
Is the devinfo module loaded?

Has anyone reached a satisfactory resolution on this issue w/ compressor. What do apple's techs have to say about it? It's not like apple to force their users to deal with major bugs and not chime in on the situation. This is more like the sort of garbage that I always here windows users complaining about.

Ok, no resolution from within Compressor exists as far as I can see. Here is what I suggest you do...
Compressor is the biggest pain in the but on the Suite, I don't see it as a conflict that can be solved with FCP Suite, it exists between OS and Program, so having said that I will say this, every time I have an issue with compressor (Which is quite often). I throw my hands up, grab my OS disk, do an Archive and Install. This resets the OS AND FCP Suite. Of course you have to every freaking update again. But it resets everything from the ground up and badaboom, new install of FCP Suite like new. You will have to put your user license back on too. You will have to tell your OS disk to custom install, meaning, you only need essential programs installed not language, etc. etc. The whole process will take about and hour and half, depending on your net speed to update...
But sometimes "I got no fight as long as any man does what he's told...."

The never ending Connecting to ISP mesage-but never happens

For the last week I have had no problems with my Extreme base station which connects through Dial up and is extendeded by a Airport Express station to provide coverage to several of my families laptops. Today - I asked airport to connect like always (I dont have it configured for automatic dial) and while it began dialing like normal got stuck on the message connecting to ISP. Needless to say I have tried everything including resetting it, (which by the way is the only way I can stop the connecting to ISP message on Internet Connect) I have disconnected and turning every computer off as well as the express station and physically I reset the base station via paper clip and used the Airport assistant to set the base station up like new - but no dice. Everytime it dials (and I have actually picked up the phone to listen) it makes the call but when the message Connecting to ISP is displayed the phone goes silent and the computer is stuck displaying the scrolling message that it is connecting to the ISP. But NADA! Do you think my ISP or phone company changed something??? Could it be new firmare or airport software taking effect? Man if you have any ideas - please help.

Well I got ahold of (AppleCare) - more specifically - Sean in Austin - a product specialist who took me through - tons of stuff annnnd - NADA - had to escalate it to engineering who probably won't be able to answer until Thursday. Interestingly we were able to hook up to a Apple Server without a problem but my ISP still gives the never ending "Connecting to ISP" message - later I called my ISP and they said if your able to connect the computer to there ISP but not the router - then it isnt there problem - its Apple.

If it is asking for the screen-lock passcode then:
Place the iOS device in Recovery Mode and then connect to your computer and restore via iTunes. The iPod will be erased.
iOS: Wrong passcode results in red disabled screen
If recovery mode does not work try DFU mode.

Here's an interesting bit: iTunes will let me restore my iPod touch from backup: it's still running iOS 4.3.3. I figured as much... there's backups showing in the Preferences -> Devices list for both devices (and even my old, long gone iPod touch 2G), but my iPhone (on iOS5) isn't giving me any such option. I remember I had to downgrade before to get the backup restored (something went haywire in the setup assistant, and I couldn't restore a backup from iTunes there)... If it was possible to go to iOS 5.0 rather than 5.0.1 I would just do the same thing again, but iOS 5.0.1 isn't an option. I attached a screenshot. Hopefully Apple can get this nonsense sorted out; I think iOS 5 might be the root of this, somehow.

Items purchased in an account a permanently associated with that account. You cannot split accounts nor merge them. You can log in with your family account and download items that way. In the long run though, especially if you are using other Apple devices, you may encounter problems with authorization. You should look into making new purchases with your own ID.

D10, boot problems, a never ending fan test!

I hate this noisy fan test!!! My dog always panics, if it is in the room! But that's not the problem.
If I switch on the external mains, the fan test starts and ends after some ten seconds.
If I push the switch at the front of the maschine, the fan test starts and - sometimes - never ends. In this case, the maschine - obviously - will not boot. What to do? - Repeat the procedure. Sometimes I need 10 or more attempts to boot the maschine.
Now I found (shortly before I decided to bring the maschine back to the dealer): The fan test succeeds nearly every time (and the maschine will boot), if I switch off all the external USB-devices (5 disks, WLAN-stick, memory stick, etc).
My questions:
what's going wrong with the fan test at my maschine?
is it possible to skip this crazy fan test?

regarding the fan test, this cannot be disabled.   thinkstations are designed for 24/7 uptime just like servers and the BIOS tests the fans at every boot/reboot.   since there isn't much reason to turn these systems off or put them asleep, the best workaround is to leave your D10 running 24/7 as it was designed to do.   mine only gets rebooted for windows updates, software updates, or video driver updates.   otherwise, it's up 24/7/365.
regarding the fans getting stuck, update your BIOS.   the latest version can be found here.
also, if you put your system to sleep, be sure to wake it with the power button and not your keyboard.   a few users have reported their fans getting stuck when waking with their keyboards.   i'm not aware of the issue happening when using the power button.

You should read up on Garage Band, I figured it out in 2 minutes and I don't really use that program.
You need to create a new software instrument and then use a midi keyboard or the software one provided. Hit record and hit your note, holding it down as long as you want.

InstallShield Wizard never ends under Solaris !

I am launching ./solaris_livecycle8_setup.bin under a new path on a same machine as my other Es installation.
The Installshield wizard never ends
This must be an issue with some temporary files of the previous separate install
But I can't find any files in /var/tmp or /opt/adobe
How can I extract nice adobe install files to luanch my install ?

A never-ending UT acquisition is not the same as the problem described by CSCtd49439. That would also not account for an inflated number of end hosts. Without knowing the exact details of the end hosts, I do know we had an old bug in Campus 4.x where UT would generate perpetual duplicates. This was fixed in 4.0.11, but one would need to reinitialize the ANI database to remove the duplicates. If this is an upgrade from LMS 2.6, then perhaps you still have old, stale data. Running this command would fix that:
NMSROOT/bin/perl NMSROOT/campus/bin/reintdb.pl -ut
As for the never-ending UT, check to see if the UTMajorAcquisition process is still running. If so, contact TAC, and they can walk you through the process to get a thread dump from this process. That will help identify what the process is doing and whether or not this is some kind of deadlock, or a configuration issue.

Mail synching never ends

Hi,
When I connect my iPhone 3G, the synching process in iTunes 8.02 gets stuck on Synching Mail Accounts - and never ends. I even let the synching run all night, but the process was still going in the morning.
Does anyone have any ideas on how to fix this? Thanks.

Perhaps the difference is that the account you currently use is not an IMAP account but a POP account, and it is not configured to save messages on the server after retrieval. MobileMe and AOL mail are IMAP mail accounts.
If your present email provider supports IMAP, then change your mail account to use IMAP instead of POP. This will make it easy to keep both computers consistent with email.

Add pseudo device in zones

How can one add a pseudo device to a zone? We have a
pseudo device which serves as an application entry to a kernel module. It does ioctl's to the kernel module.
When I create the device in the global zone and then do an
add device
set match=/dev/rxp
end
in the zone configuration and then
configure the zone with zonecfg, it does not complain.
But when I check the /dev directory in the zone for the /dev/rxp, I do not see it. The documentation specifies that the zone configuration
will create some pseudo devices, /dev/null, /dev/zero and others.
If the answer is that the configuration does not let you add
pseudo devices today, then when will it?

Although I'm not positive in this I do think it may be a while before something like this will be implemented. After all; the primary task of a non-global zone is security by shielding it off from the main zone and thus seperating several resources.
However; do note that your /dev directory in the global zone is not fully shared with the one of the non-global zone. It has its own seperate dev directory which can be found in the same directory as the zone's rootpath. You may give it a try in there, but personally I have some serious doubts to the success of this approach.

AdamSync from AD to LDS goes into a continuous never ending loop... can't figure this out.

I THINK I've got this thing configured up to the point where it should be able to sync. The XML config is set to just grab a single OU with roughly 12 accounts in it.
Everything seems to connect OK, then it does a ton of "Processing Entry", even though there are only a few accounts in this OU.
Then it begins to do "Adding target object..." and gets stuck in a never ending loop.
Can someone point me in the right direction on how to troubleshoot this?
