New Computer--iPad Won't Sync
Frustration with a capital F.
A couple of weeks ago I bought a new desk top. All my iPods are doing fine with the transfer of my iTunes library to the new computer. I thought everything was fine with my iPad. It synced a couple of new TV shows and some music, but when I plugged it in tonight, after downloading iTunes 10. whatever, it wants to erase everything I have on it. It says it is synced to another library. I had problems with my iPhone also . . . .
How do I get my iPad to re-recognize the only library it has ever known and start syncing again?
Thanks!
You could restore it from a backup, assuming you have one from a previous sync

New computer, ipod won't sync
My old iBook's hard drive had some water damage, so I got a new MacBook. But now my ipod won't sync with my new computer unless I erase what I already have on my ipod. How do I get all my non-purchases off my ipod before reformatting to my new computer?
MacBook Mac OS X (10.4.9)Connect your iPod to your computer. If it is set to update automatically you'll get a message that it is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all the songs from your iPod. Your iPod should appear in the iTunes source list from where you can change the update setting to manual and use your iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Also when using most of the utilities listed below your iPod needs to be enabled for disc use, changing to manual update will do this by default. Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button: Managing content manually on iPod
Once you are safely connected there are a few things you can do to restore your iTunes from the iPod. If you have any iTMS purchases the transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. A paragraph on it has been added to this article: Transfer iTunes Store purchases using iPod
The transfer of non iTMS content such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve music files and playlists from your iPod. I use Senuti but have a look at the web pages and documentation for the others too, you'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos and games as well. This is just a small selection of what's available, you can also read reviews of some of them here: Wired News - Rescue Your Stranded Tunes
Senuti Mac Only
PodView Mac Only
PodWorks Mac Only
iPodDisk PPC Mac Only (experimental version available for Intel Macs)
iPodRip Mac & Windows
YamiPod Mac & Windows
Music Rescue Mac & Windows
iPodCopy Mac & Windows
There's also a manual method of copying songs from your iPod to a Mac or PC. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available at this link: Two-way Street: Moving Music Off the iPod
Keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync. I would , relying on an iPod as your sole backup is not a good idea and external drives are comparatively inexpensive these days, you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay. -

I got a new computer and need to sync my iPhone and ipad on it, how do i do that without losing all data. I need help ASAP!
If you still have the old computer see: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4527
If you don't have your old computer, but you made regular backups of it, restore the most recent backup using the backup software that you used to make the backup. You will have to read the instructions for it.
If you don't have your old computer and you did not back it up regularly see: Syncing to a "New" Computer or replacing a "crashed" Hard Drive -
We have a new computer, do I just sync my ipad and iphone to the new computer to transfer my data onto it? My husband has some very complicated looking instructions for transferring his music on his ipod.
No. The ipad/iphone are not storage/backup devices. They simply mirror the selected content from the computer to which they are synced. If you sync to another computer, the current data will be erased and replaced with content from the new computer.
You copy everything form your old comuter, or your backiup copy of your old computer, to your new one. -

I just upgraded to the new 5.0.1 software and now my Ipad won't sync, any ideas?
Are you using ITunes 10.5? If so have you upgraded to the OS 5 software? Now it should tell you there's an even newer upgrade to the 5.0.1 when you try to sync your iPhone or iPad. Hope this helps.

IPad won't sync; instead tells me it's syncing for 2 seconds without result
Hey
Here's my problems:
My iPad won't sync to my computer
My iPad's system time and calendar are messed up after the failed sync
What happens:
Once I connect my iPad to my PC with iTunes open, it starts to sync
Two seconds later, iTunes tells me the sync is finished
Nothing new appears on my iPad, and my the time and calander are messed up
What I've tried:
manual sync (only works for music)
reboot computer
reboot iPad
uninstal and reinstal iTunes
Info (I'm not sure if all of this is relevant):
I just switched from a 32 bit Windows XP to a 64 bit Windows 7 computer
My iTunes is also 64 bit
I'm using a different iTunes account than I was before, and I've successfully downloaded books and music with it on my iPad
The iTunes library is in the right place (it's on an external hard drive, just like it was on my old computer); I can see and play the music on my computer
I have an iPad 1, latest software update available; it's about two years old
My computer runs on 110 volts, and my iPad runs on 220 volts (I baught my iPad in europe and moved to the US a few weeks ago; I use an adapter to recharge it, which works fine)
I've tried different USB ports, all directly in my computer
Thanks for reading all this :/ Hope anyone knows whats wrong. ThanksSOLVED
It turned out I still had apps installed from my previous iTunes account (Apple ID), which I deleted and re-installed using the new account. After that, it worked perfectly -

I had to reinstall iTunes and now my iPad won't sync.
I tried to upgrade with 11.1.4 and everything go messed up (Windows 7 user). I ended up going back to a later version of data on my computer. Then I was able to reinstall iTunes. My iPhone is syncing like it should, but my iPad won't sync. I've lost the App Sore icon and others. Not sure what to do. I refreshed my iPad but nothing is working.
attach a screenshot of the error unless that's all of the error message.
if it is, Troubleshoot install using logs | Elements -
I have a new computer and want to sync my Iphone and Ipad2 to the new computer (PC) instead of the old one, is there an easy way to do this?
Extract from one of our senior participant.
Syncing with new computer
1) Without connecting your iPad to your laptop, start iTunes. Click on Edit. Click on Preferences. Click on Devices. Check the box next to "Prevent your iPod etc. from automatically syncing." Click OK.
2) Now connect your iPad to your laptop and start iTunes.
3) When iTunes starts, right click on your iPad under Devices in the left column. Select Transfer purchases etc.
4) After it finishes transferring all your apps to your new laptop, right click on your iPad and select Backup your iPad.
5) After it finishes backing up your iPad, right click on your iPad and select Restore etc.
6) After it finishes restoring, left click on your iPad , then click on the Apps tab on top, and check the box next to Sync Apps, then click on Apply below.
If everything on your iPad looks good after the sync, go back and click on Edit / Preferences / Devices and UN-check the box next to Prevent your iPod etc. The only other thing you may want to check is if your contacts, bookmarks, etc. are syncing correctly now. If not, go to the Info tab after connecting and make sure you indicate which features you want to sync with what sources.
