After a few Minutes I must terminate the "CPAXXX" process of the CD and then I get the "finished" screen, but the soundcard still doesn't work.
Can somebody tell me where I can get a new - correct working - Driver-CD for my SB Audigy ? It's a pity that you can only get driver/programm-UPDATES on the creative site.
Please help me, it's very important. And YES: I have got a Retail Version of the Driver-CD and it really don't run properly. (Sorry for my english mistakes)

  • Cannot back up with Time Machine/Capsule after new drive installed in MacBook Pro

MacBook Pro 2.53 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo running 10.8.5.
I just had a larger hard drive installed by Tekserve. This is to be my first back up since installing the new drive. I have 2 back ups: one to my Time Capsule via WiFi, the other to an external Le Cie via USB.
Time Machine just gives me preparing to backup but goes no further, just stuck in that mode. I suspect that it can't find my old drive, which it backed up till now. But I cannot find a way to correct this possible snafu. I do not see an option in Preferences.
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks

Just so we are clear.. were your files all recovered from backup after the install of the disk?? Did you supply one of the backups to the company who did the installation so they could do the recovery?
You do want to be careful not to damage the old backup.. it might really be better to start over a clean new backup.
TM should be reset. It sounds like they did recover your settings.. Please check Pondini here.
    A4 http://pondini.org/TM/Troubleshooting.html
Also use A1 to check what the log is saying about TM.. the old backup will need to be fully indexed and checked if you intend to keep using it.. and that will take several hours to the TC if you use wireless.. The problem people expect fast starts but that is not possible unless you are doing a new backup.
You can also check some of the other help files there eg D1 long preparing for why that happens.

  • Cd Drive not working even after a new drive installed.

    Hello
About a month ago i had problems with my cd drive, it wouldn't burn a cd and every time i tried it sounded like the computer was going to take off! I took my computer to the genius' and it was supposedly fixed with a new disk drive put it. BUT i am still having the same problems! is there any way in which it may be a software issue as i am still having the same issues and they are actually getting worse!
    Please Help!
    Thank You!

You should go back to the genius who installed the new drive.  The repair will be under warranty.

  • Mac Pro refuses to boot after new drive instalation...

    Hi
Could anyone shed a bit of light on my problem - Ive just got a new 500gb seagate drive, - when I load it up in order to format, im faced with a blank screen, and os x refuses to even think about booting up - there is also an odd click which Im guessing is the boot drive trying to start.
The new drive slots into place fine, and I made sure I was earthed out before touching it...
When the new drive is taken out, the system starts up without a hitch.
Do I have a duff drive? - or am I missing something blindingly obvious?
    Thanks for any help
    Maxine.

    Hi,
Funny that I saw this message, I am the person that had the exact same problem on the 20th of December.
After trying to install the HD, I had the problem as well. I ended up taking the computer in to my local Apple store, and they kept the Mac Pro.
It is now January 5th and I still do not have the system. Called them an hour ago and they said that the part (they didn't mention what it was) was on BACKORDER, so they had to decide if they were going to wait for the part or give me a brand new system. Hmmmm.... Could this be a NEW hidden problem for the Mac Pro now?
I wanted to purchase an iMac, but was afraid of the lock-up issues. I am starting to regreat my choice and wish I had got an iMac, at least I would have some kind of file server for my network
All I can suggest is to take it in to your local Apple store and let them check it, and then ask if they could fix it right then, or you two could have a system that's not able to be workable.

  • Hard Drive Crashed - New Drive Installed - How to Write to External?

Not sure if this is the right forum. Please re-direct me if necessary.
My hard drive crashed last week. Files were non-recoverable. I installed a new hard drive, new OS, and new apps.
Question: How do I now write to my external hard disk? Before my hard drive crashed I had set my external to sharing with "read only." Now, with my new hard drive and OS, I can only "read only." But I use that disk to store backup files and I want to use it with Time Machine. So how can I write to it?

  • After crash, recovery, new drive install: "locked disk/write permissions"?

After this trauma, I've already had the installing tech redo the generic Home setup they did (originals were lost) as there were tangled permissions, users, etc.. They did add the iLife 06 suite to the reinstall, and then I upgraded back it '08.
Now, iTunes and iPhoto give the message: "The folder (X) is on a locked disk or you do not have write permissions for this folder." What? Why? And why just these two?

    Hi Larry,
Could be many things, we should start with this...
    "Try Disk Utility
    1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc that came with your computer, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Click the disclosure triangle to the left of the hard drive icon to display the names of your hard disk volumes and partitions.
    5. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    6. Click Repair. Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
Then Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it finishes.
The usual reason why updates fail or mess things up, or things don't load/run, is if Permissions are not fixed before & after every update, with a reboot... you may get a partial update when the installer finds it doesn't have Permissions to change one obscure little part of the OS, leaving you with a mix of OS versions.
Some people get away without Repairing Permissions for years, some for only days.
If Permissions are wrong before applying an update, you could get mixed OS versions, if Directory is the slightest messed up, who knows!
If many Permission are repaired, or any Directory errors are found, you may need to re-apply some the latest/biggest updates again, or even do an A&I if you have enough free disk space.

The combo update for Intel-based Macs...

Repair Permissions after re-install, then reboot again.
If all the above do not resolve the problem, then it's time for an Archive & Install, which gives you a new OS, but can preserve all your files, pics, music, settings, etc., as long as you have plenty of free disk space...

  • Canon MX870 is not detected by Yosemite after new driver installed

I just downloaded and installed the new Canon drivers from their website that are supposed to support Scanner/Printer functions for my MX870 with Yosemite, but when I go to Settings for Printer/Scanner and try to add the printer from the wireless network, the computer does not detect it.
Anyone know what else I can do, or if I'm doing something wrong here?

    Hi JordoGelbo,
Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
If you are trying to set up a printer wirelessly, first take a look at the guide found at this link:
OS X Yosemite: Add or remove a printer
You can review the steps in the "Add a Wi-Fi or network printer" section to make sure your printer is being properly set up.
If the printer is still not visible, the section called "Add a network printer by its IP address" can be helpful.
For more troubleshooting tips, see the advice at this link:

  • New DRIVES installed but only 1 listed (raid question)

I just upgraded from Adobe Premier Pro CS2 to CS4.  After installing it on my PC computer (XP) I also decided to upgrade my computer drives and memory.  My classroom in a book states that three drives are best.  Drive one is dedicated to the operating system and programs, drive two (the fastest drive) dedicatd to captured video and video previews and drive three dedicated to audio, misc. still images and exporting.
I told my computer tech what I wanted and yesterday I picked-up my computer with an invoice that read:
    1 - EVGA GeForce GTX 260 Core 192 896MB 448-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 X 16 HDCP Ready SLI Supported Video Card
    1 - Western Digital 250GB SATA 16MB 7200rpm 3.5" Hard Drive Raid with current 250GB
1 - Western Digital 1TB Caviar Green SATA 7200rp 64MB Hard Drive Windows Backup Drive
    1 - 1 GB DDR2 PC2-6400 800MHz 240-pin (total 3GB RAM)
1 - Rebit Backup Software Windows XP (required for XP)
1- Set-up Window XP RAID with backup software and drive
My tech told me that EVERYTHING would be saved to the 'C:' drive!
HERE'S MY QUESTION: When I booted-up my computer and checked 'my computer' I only saw one drive listed - The 'C:' drive. (WINXP).  Also listed was my 'E:' drive (DVD RAM Drive), a Rebit icon and two folder files (my documents and shared documents).
I expected to see 3 drives.  My tech told me that RAID means to connect the drives.
WHAT I NEED TO KNOW IS:
    1 - What exactly doe RAID mean/do?
2 - Do I create FILE FOLDERS on my 'C:' drive for all my CS4 files?  Importing/Rendering/Backup/Scrath/Previews/Etc.
3 - SOMEONE OUT THERE PLEASE TELL ME HOW TO DIRECT MY CS4 FILES TO THEIR APPROPRIATE PLACES AND WHERE THAT IS.
    THANKS
    Tom

    Bill...
I went back to my tech and told him what you said...he sent me this e-mail:
Ok Tom,  we will remove the RAID configuration drive so  that is has Drive letters.
You will loose the performance aspect: "RAID is a array of physical HDD's, and can be hardware, or software managed. The two main uses are for an increase in size (say two physical HDD's seen as one) and speed, as the reads/writes are spread over two HDD's, instead of one"
C:\ OS, programs and possibly the Windows Page File (Statically Managed)
    D:\ Projects w/ Scratch Disks
    E:\ Media
The 1TB will still be the BACKUP DRIVE, shown as Rebit.   You Only have access to that to recover data or System Disaster.
(Drive letters may be different than you listed)
As you may have noticed the speed of the storage and Scratch Disk is a BIG factor of the Adobe process!
The settings you and the tech are asking for are based on the old rules.
However,  since this is what you want I apologize for doing it the way adobe instructed us to do it for previous customers (who are happy with the RAID setup).  We will convert your drive to your request.
Please bring the machine back at your convenience (on a weekday) and I will have it done ASAP.  If I have it in the morning you wil have it by afternoon.
Again, the backup drive is a REBIT drive you will not have access to it other than for data or system restore.
    My sincere applogies, Matt
BILL...should I leave my computer alone...do you agree with my tech?  Should I return it and have him do it according to what Adobe Classroom In A Book says?
    Thanks again, in advance...
    Tom

  • New drive install.

I have just received  a replacement drive from WD. My previous drive was defective and stopped working. I have lost the recovery disc but, I have a set of boot disks for XP. All disks load ok till the last one. This is when I receive a blue screen with a stop code of 0x0000007. I believe this to be a driver issue. Laptop is a DV5116nr. Any ideas? Thanks!

    You're very welcome.
Sounds like the XP installation disk is not right, and if you can get one for XP home--even a Dell OEM XP Home disk, you should be able to change the product key and use the one on the bottom of your notebook to activate Windows, or you can probably be safe ordering the recovery disk set for your notebook knowing a disk will boot from the CD-ROM device.

  • HDD crash requiring complete reload on new drive, now can't install ID CS5.5 (can't activate)

I've been using a Vista system for the past couple years and had ID CS5.5 installed. A few days ago, my HDD crashed and will not boot. It's gone. So I've installed a new drive, installed Windows 7, and am in the process of reloading my programs. I've had no problem until attempting to load ID CS5.5, which is a full retail version I purchased directly from Adobe by phone about a year ago. It accepts the serial number, but when I select "Next", I get another prompt saying although the serial number is valid, it needs a serial number from a previous version....which I don't have since I didn't have a pervious version....and my copy of CS5.5 is NOT an upgrade version.
I contacted Adobe customer service and got someone in India who obviously didn't understand the issue, and continually pushed to purchase the most recent version....which I DO NOT want to do. All I want to do is use the same CS5.5 I've been using. I ended up having to terminate the conversation.
I then contacted the person who builds my systems, and he said he'd had the same problem several times with Adobe activation involving customer computer crashes. He went on to tell me that I first have to de-activate from the old system, then re-activate on the replacement system. But in my case, the HDD is fried and I'm not able to de-activate my ID CS5.5.
So I'm in a catch-22. I have a perfectly good CS5.5 that I've paid for and now can't use. I feel like I'm being punished because my computer crashed...which wasn't my fault, and it's not like I'm trying to load CS5.5 on a second system. It's simply a replacement system due to the crash.
    What can I do?
    Thanks
    Denny

Thanks Dov. I hadn't accessed my Adobe account for quite a while, so just did and was reminded that my CS5.5 is in fact an upgrade to CS2 that I'd purchased a long time ago and forgot about it. My fault. I loaded CS5.5 as a trial, so was able to enter the serial number for CS2 as the previous version, and it activated.
But I agree, the person I spoke to should not treat any customer in that manner. Must be working on commission sales...and they were going to charge me for their "Expert help and advice".

  • New drive makes existing files vanish?!

    System: 14-drive XServe RAID configured as 2 7-drive RAID-5s. OSX 10.3.9.
One drive went bad, and we pulled it, expecting to swap in a new one.
With one drive removed, that half of the RAID indicates "degraded", but continues to function. However, upon physically inserting the new drive, some existing directories now show as empty.
With new drive installed, RAID Admin shows that half of the array includes just six drives, and the seventh one shows as spare -- as expected I think, prior to running the procedure to incorporate the new drive. So in theory it should be having no impact. Yet as I say, some existing directories now show as empty.
Removing that drive, and replacing it with an empty drive tray causes the files and subdirs to reappear in the directories of interest.
A message appeared at the time of trying to access the directories in questions:
Jun 13 19:45:12 brain kernel: hfs: WARNING - blocks on volume home not allocated!
(home is a volume on RAID2)
Any clues as to what might cause this? Our main concern is the we don't want to proceed to incorporate the new drive if the result is going to be a bunch of missing files.

Hi Bo.  Select the built-in container "Photos" from near the top of the Library Inspector.  This will show you all your Images when you set the Browser filter to "Show All".  Then select all.  (Easily done with the key-chord "⌘a", but also available on the Edit menu.)
Speaking generally, but with experience: all personal computer operations are done using a "noun-verb" syntax (you select the objects, and then issue a command).  I think this grew out of RPN, but I don't know.  Using our example: you first select "Photos" then issue the command "Edit ▹ Select all".  You do this so you end up with all Images selected, so you can run the command "File ▹ Relocate Originals ... " on all the Images in the Library.
The relationship between an Image and the location of its Original is independent of the location of the Image in your Library.  Moving an Image to another location (another Project), or adding it to an Album, or moving the Project it is in or any Album it is in to another Folder, does not move or any way alter the relationship between the Image and its Original.
In short, your Library structure of Projects, Albums, and Folders will be unaltered by using "File ▹ Relocate Originals ... ".  (Though, of course, the contents of any Smart Albums that use the rule "File Status" will be changed if you use either of the arguments "Managed" or "Referenced", and may be changed when you use some of the other arguments.)
Aperture allows you to relocate _any_ Image's Original at any time.  There is no need I know of to relocate them often, but if you had that need, you could.
For many thousands of files, expect "File ▹ Relocate Originals ... " to take hours to complete.  Aperture will show you a progress bar at the top of the Browser.  IME, this is usefully accurate.
Let us know how it goes.

  • X61 - new drive, sata must be set to compatibility - why?

I'm refurbishing an X61 for a new user.  It had serious case damage--hinges were broken, so I sent it off to Lenovo and it looks like new.  I thought I would also put a Seagate SSHD in it - ST500LM000.
I cloned the old drive to the new one using Acronis TrueImage.
All seemed to go well, except that I had to do a couple of iterations of startup repair when I started the machine with the new drive installed.
However, after that, things went very strange:  1) When I attempted to download any file in IE10 (windows 7 enterprise, fully patched)  clicking on the resultant dialog box did nothing--I had to run firefox to download any file.  2) Windows update would not run--the wuauserv service was not running and could not be started.  3) eventually, the machine started giving "non-genuine" warnings.
Since one of the fixes for non-genuine was to do an upgrade install, I tried that--used 64 bit enterprise upgrade windows 7, and it went through what appeared to be the whole install and at the end said:  Windows setup cannot configure Windows for this hardware." and rolled back.
Reading about that message led me to discussions about missing RAID drivers, and that got me to try switching between AHCI and Compatibility.
With the bios set to compatibility (2.22) the system works fine--no non-genuine warnings, windows update works, I can download files in any browser I choose.
The system is up to date according to system update 5.  I even downloaded the 13 hotfixes for Windows 7 64 bit listed in the download center and applied them one by one to see if SU missed anything.  To my surprise, 3 of them DID install, but made no apparent difference to the behavior.
I'm perplexed--This is not a large drive--500 Gigs.  I've read messages here about SSDs and large drives in x61, and it seems it should be fine.  When set in compatibility mode, the Intel Matrix Storage Manager complains its driver isn't properly installed, but that is the only sign of anything awry.
Performance seems excellent--I think the hard drive number in the Windows Experience Index went from 5.2 to 5.9.
I can certainly leave it set this way, but I'd like to understand why--anybody have a good idea?
    Bill Sanderson
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hi Bill,
That drive is an advanced format drive - 4096 bytes per sector: http://www.seagate.com/files/www-content/product-content/momentus-fam/momentus-xt/laptop-sshd/en-us/...
This can cause a number of issues with pre-SP1 Windows 7 and friends.  Even if you're at SP1, there is a matrix storage manager version around that can also cause problems.  Your update install was maybe from pre-SP1 media?
A few things to try would be a MS fix (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/982018), rerunning the SP1 update, trying a different Intel storage driver.  You may need to do one or all of these things _before_ the clone op.
