New feature idea

I think there should be a feature on iTunes where you can put in the lyrics to a song, then sync them to your iPod. Once you sync them, you could then view the lyrics to the song you're listening to. Now you can sing along!

Already there... Get info > Lyrics tab in iTunes. Press Select a few times on the iPod to view lyrics when present.

  • New feature idea - Beat Grid

    Hi all,
I've got an idea for a new feature and thought I'd post it here in case other people agree that it's a good idea and would like to submit a feature request to help get it noticed.
    Beat Grid
It would be useful to be able to overlay a grid of vertical lines onto the timeline which show the positions of musical beats and bars.  This would assist with positioning keyframes and edit points in projects that are based around music.
You would need to be able to specify a tempo, time signature, and an offset.  Beats should be shown with one colour or thickness of line, with downbeats coloured differently or a different thickness, and it should be an option to snap keyframes to the beat grid.
Musical synchronisation forms the basis of a huge amount of motion graphics work, and therefore I think this feature would be very useful and popular.  (My current method is to put beat markers on the audio layer, but making a grid overlay as part of the user interface would be a much neater/easier method.)
    Here's a mock-up of how I imagine it looking: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/1388508/BeatGridMockup.jpg
The green lines represent downbeats (i.e. the first beat of a bar), and the yellow ones are individual beats.
Ideally you'd be able to interactively drag the green downbeat lines to offset the position of the whole grid, and drag the yellow beat lines to change the grid spacing (i.e. tempo), as well as entering numeric values.  These should be saved per comp rather than being a global grid setting, and appearance should be configurable as a general AE preference (eg line colours).
An extension of this could be automatic beat detection to configure the grid, but to be honest it wouldn't be difficult to set it up manually if implemented the way I've described above.
If you think this would be useful, please post a feature request at Adobe - Feature Request/Bug Report Form .  I'm sure this would be relatively easy for the team to implement and be a huge time saver for many of us.
    Cheers,
    Phil

    Hi Dave,
Yes I'm familiar with those terms, and appreciate what you're saying, but I don't think this would 'severely limit' the use of a beat/timeline grid.
There's plenty of music out there that does have a consistent tempo (particularly electronic music, and library music which is usually produced on computer), and there are also plenty of occasions when it would be useful to have a time-interval grid, even when music isn't being used.    (I've started thinking of it as a 'timeline grid' rather than a 'beat grid' now.
What I'm proposing is not a plugin, but a simple addition to the user interface - a grid you can turn on and off, just like the grid in the comp viewer.
Personally, with the work I do, I would benefit from such a feature like this on an almost daily basis, hence why I'm putting the idea out there in the hope that other people agree.

  • New Features/Ideas for FLASH related work?

Let's see....I know there are always new cool and money
making features and ideas floating in our industry. I am looking
for this kind of ideas. The goal for me is to maximize utilization
of Interactive team and bring more revenue. No different from
    others, I assume.
Can anyone share some really interesting ideas on how we can
grow our interactive department - flash animations, action script,
    serious back end integration etc.
We specilize in Pharma and e-Learning areas.
    Thx in advance.

Flash video is where it's at (IMHO)...
Since your company does e-learning, why not create some video
tutorials or demonstrations. This is very time consuming so it will
keep everyone busy. Plus there is the ability to shoot these
yourself with fairly reasonably priced equipment, then all the time
to edit and add effects digitally, and then merging the video
    content with Flash.
There are 18 million different ways to incorporate Flash
video into new and exciting money making ideas. Now why don't you
send my your site's fla souce since I just gave you a million
    dollar idea.
    *holds breath*
Seriously though, your site is one bad-a$$ piece of flash
    work. Nice job.

  • New feature suggestion for finder.

I'm not sure where one posts new feature ideas/requests so I'll try here first... If you have a better place please tell me.
Please add the Quick Look feature to file selection dialogs.
This is where the feature is at it's most useful. For instance, when selecting files to attach to an email, being able to quick look to make sure it's the version I want to send would be very valuable.
    Thanks

  • Where can I send an idea for a new feature.

I have an idea for a new feature in Illustrator. I'd like to share it to the developers.
Is there a channel to send your idea?
    Thank you!

    Thanks for the replies.
I know that this feature does not serve everybody, but I could use it on a weekly basis.
I don't know if there is a script for this, and if there is, plese let me know it.
    Transparent working window.
So I could set my whole artboard window transparent and still work on it.
I could easily and fast trace some shapes from locked PDF's and also directly from the browser without copying the image to my computer.
The problem is, of course, that Zoom would only work in the graphics in the Illustrator (needless to say) and would not affect to the graphics behind the Illustrator window.
But still I think I could use it very much.
For examble I could manually draw simple shapes and logos straight from the customers website, without downloading the poor JPG image.
Please let me know what you think about it.
Sorry if there is some mistakes, English is not my native.
I hope you got the point.

  • Got an idea for a new feature or feature improvement?

Our FAQ contains a list of in progress and unfinished features, so please check that out.
We're interested in hearing from you on how we can improve Parfait by improving or adding a new feature. Please provide as much detail as possible, and make sure to tell us why it is important to you. If your idea is for a new feature, it would be helpful to understand how you get it done now, and how the new feature would make your life better.
    Thanks!

    Helo Kieran,
    • Integration with Creative Cloud or LayerVault (LV would be nice for versioning etc.)
BB> We're working on integrating with Creative Cloud. You'll get versioning, commenting, sharing (file or folder level), and sync. We expect to be able to roll this out later this year.
    • Importing guides from the .PSD as well as having the rulers on the sides
BB> Good idea, and we're considering this. For now, some people are creating guides on a layer in Ps, then toggling that layer's visibility in Parfait.
    • When doing a Shift + Click on two elements, depending on the circumstance, spit out the margin or padding values into the CSS panel
BB> This is also something we've considered. We think this should be done in combination with adding support for guides or another temporary measurement aid, so you can position the container around an item to make sure you get the info you want. Still working out design and details on this one, and no ETA.
    • Having something like a marquee tool to measure between two points (I know this can be done using the Shift+Click but some elements aren't accurate eg. images inside clipping masks)
BB> Yes, we're considering this, as I mentioned in the point above.
    • The tags that are created when you select a font in the right-hand-side panel are black with a white "T", it's quite hard to see (not really a feature but I thought it was worth mentioning )
BB> Thanks for the feedback, and we'll take another look at them to see if we can improve.
And thanks for offering to help with testing - we are improving Parfait and pushing out new builds frequently, so please check back often and let us know what you think.

  • Just upgraded  iWeb app to version 3.0.4 from an iLife 11 disk. I like some of the newer features but it seems to have one glitch: when I upload the pages to my ftp server, the automatic navigation bar at the top of the page disappears. Any ideas?

Just upgraded my old iWeb app to version 3.0.4 from an iLife 11 disk. I like some of the newer features but it seems to have one glitch: when I upload the pages to my ftp server, the automatic navigation bar at the top of the page disappears. Any ideas? Thanks.

Looks like a couple scripts are missing:
If you republish the entire site iWeb should recreate these for you...
I don't use the built-in navigation. I usually just create my own:

  • A Success Story & First Impressions of New Features

Like many of you I was plagued with some of the serious problems with updating my Domain file: disappearing photos, missing blog comments, missing link bars at the top of the page etc. I tried the various tip and tricks sugested here with no luck. When the 2.01 update to iWeb appeared last Friday I downloaded it but I held off using it. I had already lost about 6 hours out of my life playing around with iWeb 2.0 with nothing to show for it. After reading many posts saying it didn't help I was going to hold off.
Don't ask me why, but I changed my mind. Monday I started working on my site. Creating 10 album pages to replace my homegrown versions, adding some navigation aids, relinking etc. I also moved the photo I wanted to show as the album preview to the first position on each photo page. All in all I spent about 8 hours working on the site. I would save every 10 minutes or so and duplicate the domain file and keep several generations of these around. There were no missing photos, crashes or hiccups of any kind.
This morning I uploaded the site. The first thing I noticed is this version of iWeb seems to be faster creating the files to be uploaded. Much faster. I'm not sure if this is an improvement to the code or a result of the smaller domain files created in iWeb 2. Instead of 15 minutes or so it took 5. The first upload of the files to .mac took just as long as ever, nearly 45 minutes on a high speed cable modem connection. As the upload was completing the first hiccup occured-the upload failed with a message saying there was an error creating a file. I was not optomistic at this point. I figured I was having the upload problem others have reported. All my page icons were back to red and I figured it was back to square 1. At least all the content was still in the Domain file.
When I hit the upload button the second time it took the same 5 minutes to create the files, but the upload to 30 seconds. It evidently just repaced the file that had the problem. I have since made edits to my site several times and iWeb seems to be much faster uploading the pages. I get the impression it doesn't reupload the whole page content but merely uploads the changed portion. I added a text box to 30 pages and the changes uploaded to .mac in about a minute. I am very pleased with this increase in speed.
As for the site itself I love the new features. I love the picture gallery where clicking on a picture opens up a larger copy and gives you thumbs of the other pages. I tried my site in 3 different Mac browsers with no issues and also the latest IE for Windows running under Parallels 3. Unlike what others have reported, my slideshows appear normal size on the PC. I like the new album pages and the automatic linking they provide. In iWeb itself I like being able to collapse the album folder to reduce the clutter in the navigation sidebar. I like the fact you can create a blank page now. You don't have to strip another page type to get a blank page. The skimming effect on album pages works equally well on the Mac or PC side. One interesting thing I have noticed is the picture captions are in a different font on the PC side. I use the Freestyle template for my site and the picture captions are in a handwritten style font (Handwritten-Dakota). In the past these would be converted to .png image files so they would display correctly on the PC. In this version the fonts are rendered in a serif font that looks like times. I imagine this may make the page load faster but I'm not surre if I like this feature or not. The page does look drastically different.
Speaking of dislikes there are a couple. I wish iWeb would ask you before it goes and downsamples your photos while converting to the 2.0 format. I don't like the idea that if you want to use the high quality hi res versions you have to reinsert and recaption them. Like many others I would like to be able to turn off the download button when viewing the photo galleries.
While I think Apple deserve a spanking for the initial release of iWeb 2.0, now that the patch seems to be working for me I feel it is a worthy upgrade. I am 90 percent happy with the new features and I think the other 10 percent can be tweaked by Apple in response to user feedback. If you'd care to stop by and visit my site here is the address:
    http://web.mac.com/jmahoney
I hope those of you still having trouble will get your sites up and runing soon. If you held off on the 2.01 upgrade, you might want to give it a shot (after backing up your Domain file). I was pleasantly surprised.
    Jim Mahoney

Thanks for your account and experience with the new iWeb.
Nice site now, although vegetarians better skip it
I personally got rather hungry viewing it. And it is only 13.30 here.

  • New Features for OWB 9.2

Mark Van De Wiel mentioned yesterday in this forum that OWB 9.2 is now available at http://otn.oracle.com/software/products/warehouse/content.html . From the version number it would appear that this is a major new release, and it's a separate install rather than a patch on OWB9.0.4.
    Would Mark, Igor or Shauna be able to give us some background on the new features in this new release? From quickly looking at the release notes they would appear to be;
    - Correlated Commit (committing changes across all targets uniformly)
    - Ability to create public database links
    - Direct PEL (removes the need for temporary tables when exchanging partitions)
    - Enhanced Flat File Support
    - Mapping Debugger
    - Incorporation of ETL functionality previously found in standalone Pure*Integrate
    - Metadata change management using the OWB GUI rather than using OMB*Plus
    - Multiple Name and Address Software Providers
    - Name/Address Wizard
    - New Public API for OWB
    - Better support for Real Application Clusters
    - Advanced Repository Security and Audit options
    - Support for MITI metadata bridges to third-party products
It would be good to know the thinking behind these and what areas they think will be particularly of interest to us. Also, has anything been removed or changed that we've got used to using?
Also, any day now (fingers crossed) the patch to make the OLAP functionality in OWB9.0.4 work (the 9i 9.2.0.3.x patch?) should be out - will this work with OWB9.2 as well?
    Many thanks
    Mark Rittman
    [email protected]

    Hi Mark,
While I'm not in your list of people to respond I figure I give it a go anyways :-)
The list of features you mentioned is a nice summary. One of the main release themes is data quality as you noticed. Apart from changes to the name&address functionality we also added the advanced matching and merging into this release. So you can use custom rules to match and merge data. This also allows you to do things like householding for customer data records. In essence we have now completed the integration of Pure*Integrate into Warehouse Builder.
The mapping debugger is another big thing. This allow you to walk through your mappings and see in detail what happes to the data.
The metadata change management is now in the UI. THis means there is now object level version management in Warehouse Builder via the UI. You can also compare versions and get a difference report.
As you mentioned there are a number of smaller and bigger features next to this. The idea for this release is to make OWB a top Data Quality product and allow you to do your ETL and DQ in one tool. Apart from that we have added usability features (debugger, N&A wizard) and we have added some features to solve specific problems.
Especially the corelated commit is interesting in that respect. You can now, in a map with multiple targets control the commit, and choose to either commit all targets or none, or commit them individually (current behavior).
As usual there is a lot more, as this is indeed a major release. Keep an eye on OTN for more collateral regarding the new features. We are currently updating the site to reflect the new stuff.
On the OLAP patch, both 9.0.4 and 9.2 will work equally well with the OLAP patch (when it is available). In 9.2 we added some small thing around composites. More about that when there is an OLAP patch to test this one on in a customer site.
I hope this answered the question, if not let me know.
    Jean-Pierre
