  • 1Z0-045: Oracle Database 10g: New Features for Oracle 8i OCPs

    Hi,
I was looking for right reference book for the 1z0-045 upgrade certification. I could not find any reference book that is related to this certification. Only one book have found out on Amazon site, which is "OCP Oracle Database 10g: New Features for Administrators Exam Guide (Oracle Press) (Paperback)" published by McGraw Hill.
But this book does not show exem number 1z0-045 anywhere. So I am not sure, is it a right book to buy.
Please let me know if any one has any knowledge about that.
    I appreciate for your information.
    Thanks
    Amit

The book you mention is for those individuals who are upgrading their 9i OCP to the 10g OCP. Since you are apparently upgrading from 8i OCP, there is possibly a gap in your learning. You might want to take a look at OCP Oracle9i Database: New Features for Administrators Exam Guide (Paperback) which explains the new features for Oracle 9i to someone coming from an 8i background. No additional exam would be needed in your case but this book may help to fill out your knowledge a bit. You could also take a look at http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B10501_01/server.920/a96531/toc.htm if you would rather not buy an additional book.

    Hi,
Just check below link..would be helpful..
    http://www.oracle.com/global/ap/openworld/ppt_download/database_manageability%2011g%20overview_230.pdf
    and
Each release of Oracle has many differences, and Oracle 10g is a major re-write of the Oracle kernel from Oracle 9i. While there are several hundred new features and other differences between 9i and 10g, here are the major differences between Oracle9i and Oracle10g:
Major changes to SQL optimizer internals
    Oracle Grid computing
AWR and ASH tables incorporated into Oracle Performance Pack and Diagnostic Pack options
Automated Session History (ASH) materializes the Oracle Wait Interface over time
Data Pump replaces imp utility with impdp
    Automatic Database Diagnostic Monitor (ADDM)
    SQLTuning Advisor
    SQLAccess Advisor
Rolling database upgrades (using Oracle10g RAC)
dbms_scheduler package replaces dbms_job for scheduling
and you need to refer oracle documentation for sql, plsql references where you will know particular enhancements made...
    thanks

    Deepak,
There is no free lunch anywhere in this world, and the same is true for the training as well of Oracle modules. If you can't get time out to attend an Instructor based training, you have two choices,
    1) Self Study CD Roms Oracle offers the trainining in a self paced learning format with CD Roms which have all whatis needed to make one start and grow with the learning of a specific module. You can check which module you need and can order the cd rom for that. Learn more about this from here,
    http://education.oracle.com/pls/web_prod-plq-dad/db_pages.getpage?page_id=35
    2) Live Virtual Class This is the newest standard that Oracle has introduced in the training formats. As the name suggests, this is a class which is surely taught by an instructor only but this doens't need you to come and attend a course at a specific location , for example at Oracle's education office. You can attend the prorgam while being at your home/office as well. It offers rich video/audio expereince which doesn't make you feel that you are just learning sitting in front of a computer. Learn more about it from here,
    http://education.oracle.com/pls/web_prod-plq-dad/db_pages.getpage?page_id=233
That said, both the options mentioned above are NOT free and there is NO free event happening anywhere which goes from the start to finish of a module. There are some small web events but they can't be called a training class as there are just some topics discussed in them. So once again, don't look for free lunch, its not there anywhere.

  • New features in Oracle 10g

    Hi,
is someone able to say what new features will be included in Oracle 10g from Workspace Manager point of view? I've looked on http://otn.oracle.com/oramag/webcolumns/2003/techarticles/new_features_preview.pdf but there is nothing about OWM. Particularly I'm interested in:
    1. Possibility of historical data archiving and reloading - see topic Historic data in version enabled tables
    2. More sophisticated support for database export/import (there is possible to export/import full database only)
    3. Java API for OWM - see topic Java API for OWM?
    Thanks
    Ondrej

    1. Possibility of historical data archiving
This is not available in 10G
    2. More sophisticated support for database export/import (there is possible to export/import full database only)
Table level import//export is supported in 10G
    3. Java API for OWM
No Java API support in 10G
    regards

  • Create a new user for oracle 10G ASM instance with sysdba system privilege

    Hi,
In our Golden Gate Project, we require the SYS user credential to connect to the Oracle 10g  ASM instance to read the database transaction logs. But our client is not providing the SYS user credential to  connnect to ASM instance.
I'm getting the error message "ORA-01109:  database not open",When I tried to create a new user using the  below the steps in oracle 10g ASM instance
    1. Login using "sqlplus / as sysdba"
    2. Create user <username> identified by <password>;
But in oracle 11g ASM instance, I'm able to create new  user  by connecting the ASM instance with SYSASM role without issues.
Is there is any workaround to create a new user with sysdba system privilege in oracle 10g ASM instance?.
    Thanks in advance .

    Hi,
Recreate the password file for the ASM instance as follows:
    Unix:
    orapwd file=<ORACLE_HOME>/dbs/PWD<SID> password=<sys_password>
    Windows:
    orapwd file=<ORACLE_HOME>/database/PWD<SID>.ora password=<sys_password>
Now sys password is reset, we are ready to use sys for ASM management. I decided to create another user ASMDBA as I tried above.
    SQL> create user ASMDBA identified by test01;
    User created.
    SQL> grant SYSASM, SYSOPER to ASMDBA;
    Grant succeeded.
    SQL> select * from v$pwfile_users;
    USERNAME SYSDBA SYSOPE SYSASM
    SYS TRUE TRUE TRUE
    ASMDBA FALSE TRUE TRUE
Please see this link : http://orachat.com/how-to-change-asm-sys-password-creating-sysasm-user-11g/
    Thank you

  • Oracle RAC new feature for interconnect configuration HAIP vs BONDING

    Hi All:
I would like to get some opinion about using Oracle HAIP (High Avalibilty IP) for configuring the RAC interconnect vs using network interface bonding.
This seems to be a new feature for Oracle GI from 11.2.0.2 and later. Have anyone had any experience for using HAIP and any issues?
    Thanks

    Hi
Multiple private network adapters can be defined either during the installation phase or afterward using the oifcfg.Grid Infrastructure can activate a maximum of four private network adapters at a time. With HAIP, by default, interconnect traffic will be load balanced across all active interconnect interfaces, and corresponding HAIP address will be failed over transparently to other adapters if one fails or becomes non-communicative.
it is quite helpful in following scenarios
    1) if one private network adapterrs fails, virtual private IP on that adapter would be relocated to healthy adapter.

  • Is this the right path to become a Oracle 10g DBA

I installed Oracle 10g XE with the intention of bringing myself upto speed for Oracle DBA course for Oracle 10g.
Now, let me give my background. I have done lot of programming on PL/SQL on Oracle 8i, but that was more than 4 years ago. I have been more functional for past 4 years. Now I am am trying to get into DBA role.
What all should I focus on XE, in order to prepare myself for Oracle 10g DBA course?
    Thanks in advance.

Is installing XE the right path to becoming a DBA?
I would say that it isn't! XE is perfect if you need a production database and can fit it within the XE limitations. XE is also perfect if you want a Oracle DB with out any of the DBA fuzz. If you want to learn you should install Enterprise Edition. You can get the software on oracle.com, and I believe that you can use it for free as long as you do not do any production on it. XE is not shipped with enterprise manager (oem). However it is shipped with the Enterprise Edition, so another argument for installing that and not XE.
So to summarize it: Get a Enterprise Edition!

Muhammad AliOkay I've haven't done 1z0-045 ... but I at one point I was considering 1z0-050 so I'm willing to share my views on an upgrade exam and exams in general.
Remember Oracle are trying to ensure that a DBA who was tested at 8i DBA OCP has nw
It depends on your definition of read the topics. If you mean literally just read the topics then that will result in a failure. If you mean study research practice and fully understand the topics that should lead to a pass.
Bear in mind that Oracle would expect a competent 8i DBA attending the 5 day training course Oracle Database 10g: New Features for Oracle8i DBAs [http://education.oracle.com/web_prod-plq-dad/plsql/show_desc.redirect?dc=D17389GC10&p_org_id=&lang=&source_call=] to be able pass the exam with perhaps 2 to 4 weeks further study, revision and practice.
Interestingly this particular exam has a relatively high pass mark (73%) ... one implication of that is that it is prudent to be comfortable with all topics.
Generally an upgrade exam will cover topics beyond that of the straight OCA/OCP exams. The questions will obviously be at OCP level.
It is possilble the Sybex book Oracle 10g New Features for Administrators Study Guide (Certification Study Guide) ISBN-13: 978-0782143553 which although for 1z0-040 may have some relevance for some of your topics. If you choose to purchase it that is your choice. (It seems to have good amazon reviews ... though all of these books can contain errors, it may or may not be updated for 10gR2, and some Sybex Oracle books are sometimes OTT in some areas IMHO, but that wouldn't stop me using one).

  • 1Z0-050  Oracle 11g New Features for Administrators

Which release are the exam 1Z0-050 - Oracle 11g New Features for Administrators, release 1 or release 2?
I need to study Oracle University Material Release 1 or Release 2?

    Hi,
    I have a question too.
I am 10g certified and looking to take the 11g New Features For Administrators course in the new year.
Previously when I certifed from 8i to 9i and then to 10g it was only required to take the exam and the course was optional although my company sends me anyway.
Looking on Oracles website it seems to be that to do the 11g New Features you now have also have to attend another instructor led course. I have posted a link.
    http://education.oracle.com/pls/web_prod-plq-dad/db_pages.getlppage?page_id=212&path=DBAU
Can someone confirm if this is the case and that Oracle have changed the format of the New Features upgrade path,
    cheers
