New files cannot be checked in, only visible to user who created them

Hi,
we're having problems with one of our document libraries in Sharepoint 2013. The library was migrated from Sharepoint 2010 in September. Other libraries work fine.
When a file is created in that library, it ends up as checked out by the user and cannot be checked in because some properties such as the content type are not set. This means that nobody else can see the file, even users with full access.
For word files, Word prompts for the missing properties if the file is opened and saved in Word (but not in Office Web Apps). They work fine after that. Excel does not ask for missing properties and I haven't found a way to check in Excel files yet.
Does anyone know how to fix this?

Some ideas: -
Turn off mandatory metadata on either the column level or in the content type settings
Turn off Content type management if it's not needed
Delete unneeded content types
Check for content approval and deactivate if needed

  • All new files have 644 (group read only) permissions!?

Why do all new files created through AFP have rw-r--r-- (644) permissions? I haven't figured out any way to change it so the group can read and write the new files, without manually chmoding them to something useful.
OS X Server 10.3 and 10.4 didn't have this problem, nor did any other server OS I've ever used. Is this a feature? Is there something obvious I'm missing!?
The server sure doesn't seem very useful when only the person who created the file can edit it...seems to defeat the purpose of a file server, no?
    Please help!

Are you using ACLs on that volume so files can inherit priviledges from the folder you put them in?
In Tiger you could choose betwen using POSIX inherited priviledges and ACLs.
In Leopard ACLs are on by default but you have to set/enforce them in Server Admin.
But I hav to admit I'm a bit bewildered about "inherit" setting in Leopard Server Admin.

  • Check box only visible when data is entered in two other fields

My form has a table in which one column's cells are check boxes. I would like the check boxes to be only visible when both the quantity and unit price cells are filled out.
If I use the following script to hide the checkbox, it becomes my Amount??? which is the column right next to it.
    taxable.presence = "hidden";
I am putting the script in the initialize event of the table.

The initialize event only fires once the form is opend, not afterwards when the fields values are changed.
You need another event such as layoutReady.
    this.presence = !Quantity.isNull && !UnitPrice.isNull ? "visible" : "hidden";

  • Photoshop will not open/create new files, cannot resize images etc

    Hi to all.
So I'll start with the basics; I am using Photoshop 7 (And yes, I am using it for a specific reason, I'm not interested in migrating to this new $1000 Creative Cloud rubbish), us Australians are getting ripped a new one and I'm happy with the $50 I paid for my copy years ago. (Please do not tell me the answer to my problems is to simply upgrade and go bankrupt. Again, I've been using 7 for a very long time without issue).
I've been using 7 for almost a decade without issue. I stick with it because so far, it's done everything I need, has been reliable up to this point, and my plugins do not work properly with newer versions. I'm also running an older-spec system (Windows XP, 3gb ram etc) as I do a lot of work with older game engines, Source Engine etc.
The issue I'm having doesn't appear to be Photoshop-7 specific however, there are many threads on this that have gone unanswered, and happen in CS3 etc and modern copies as well. I have uninstalled and reinstalled it to no avail. Basically, I cannot open files reliably with it.
If I right click any image file in explorer and click "open with -> Photoshop", photoshop will launch, however it does not open the file. I double checked to ensure the file was not just opening offscreen, however it is definitely not opening at all (as the "close" option does not become available).
If I launch photoshop manually, and click file -> open -> It will open that file, HOWEVER it will not open any more files after that.
It also is very very fickle with simple commands, such as if I hit CTRL + T to go into transform mode and then try to rescale an image, I have to click and drag the corners at least 5-6 times before it will recognize that I am doing so, and it will also ignore the resize that I perform and snap back to normal. Sometimes I have to click things more than once to get them to register. This is not occurring with any other piece of software etc, so I've ruled out that it's an issue with my mouse.
This has only been happening a day, and I cannot think of any particular system changes likely to result in this (ie no abnormal plugins installed recently, no major hardware or software changes). Unless my keyboard has a stuck key or something strange, I'm absolutely at a loss
Is there anyone who can help me, or has heard of this issue?

    I am an idiot.
I guess the scratch disk was full or something else. A simple reboot appears to have solved the problem. (I often have my system running for up to 48-64 hours at a time without reboots) as my workdays are around 36 hours at a time, so it could just be a memory constraint from XP.
Hopefully this solves the issue for anyone else who encounters it. Reboot your pc once in a while, give it a clean slate of memory to work with.

  • Which file gets updated in WebLogic domain when a user is created

    Hi All,
I have a query regarding In a weblogic domain when we create a user or group in security realm--> myrealm in Dfault Authenticator, then which file or folder under Domain directory structure gets updated?

In the ${DOMAIN_HOME}/security directory the ldift files for the embedded LDAP are located. Also every server gets its own copy (${DOMAIN_HOME}/servers/${SERVER_NAME}/cluster-server1/data/ldap).

  • Portal theme mystery - Only super admin has the created theme

    Hi everybody,
SAP is full of mystery!  I created a new theme, and assigned to defaultDesktop and setted as default.
There is a Master Rule Collection in Super Administrators directory wich says IF the user = * THEN desktop = defaultDesktop.
If my user has super_admin_role everything works fine, but if I create a user without admin role, it does not! The user will get the theme "SAP Streamline".
    So how can it be???
I have a assumption,  that there is a default settings for theme, but somebody switch off the link in the masterhead.
Do you know where to switch on this link?
    Thanks a lot!
    Levente

    Hi Martin,
Thanks for your reply,  the eu_role and the eu_core_role was usefull, but did not solve my problem.
I don't know where to set the permission of the theme.  Could you have a look on it.
I went to System Administration-Portal Display-Desktop and Display Rules- Themes - Right click  but in the popup window there is no permisson. Do we have any other way to find a settings for the themes?

  • Read-only access permissions for new files/folders?

    System:
Clean Install on new intel Xserve
    10.4.8 Server w/ Open Directory
Windows clients can read/write completely fine...
Clients connecting using AFP (whether Standard or Kerberos authentication) can access files, but when new files/folders are created on the server, they register as full permissions for the user who created them, but not for the rest of the group.
The share(s) in question are set using POSIX from WGM: Full access for owner/group/everyone (changed it to this thinking it would help, but it does not). Of course, no one can make changes to a newly-created/deposited files/folders, which is just plain silly.
I can chmod the permissions recursively from a script (which fixes the problem, of course) on a regular basis so that its not (as much of) an issue, but there is still a 5-minute lag for the script to kick in, since we don't want to bombard the server with chmod requests every minute....which is unnecessary in the first place!
I have plenty of other setups which are identical but have no such issue...
Any reason why POSIX permissions on the share are being ignored from every user account?
    Thanks,
    k

"That's default posix behaviour no matter what access permissions you set on the sharepoint."
I'm afraid this is dead wrong. What matters most is how you set permissions on the share, not if you've chosen to inherit vs. using POSIX. POSIX is still used in inherit functions, though you can use ACL's to override them. In this case, ACL's are not being used on those shares (though we tried it).
After all, why would Apple (let alone anyone else) even offer the ability to change POSIX permissions on a share if it didn't have any effect? That would be somewhat contradictory in nature.
Like I said before, I have several other installations which are identically setup that have no such issues.
As for Windows, it is also not set to inherit permissions; we're setting those explicitly. And they work fine.
    Any other ideas?
    Thanks,
    k

  • New files created with no group-write permission

We have OS X set up in Standard configuration.
We have one workgroup. When someone creates a new file in this workgroup, it is saved with permissions of "Username: Read/write", "Workgroup: read only", "Everyone: read only".
How do I change this to something sane? (i.e. Username: Read/write, Workgroup: Read/write, Everyone: No access)
    Thanks in advance.

+When someone creates a new file ... (it gets POSIX) permissions of "Username: Read/write", "(group): read only", "Everyone: read only".+
    This is perfectly normal.
*Two Permission Models* First, you probably already know that Mac OS X uses two models for permissions when determining effective access for files and folders. The two models are Standard POSIX (UNIX) permissions and Access Control Lists (ACLs).
*POSIX Permissions* POSIX permissions are very simple, and have some limitations. They consist of three "fields": an owner field, a group field, and an everyone else field. (There's also a special permissions field, but we'll skip that for this discussion.) The POSIX owner is always a user; it cannot be a group. The POSIX group represents one group, and the everyone else field covers any user who is neither the owner nor a member of the chosen POSIX group.
POSIX uses three bits to describe the access returned for each field. There is a bit for read, one for write, and one for execute (for folders, this means traverse, or see contents). Thus, there are eight possible POSIX permission combinations:
*POSIX Access Type ................... Binary Bit Representation ........... Decimal Bit Representation*
    No Access .......................................................... 000 ......................... 0
    Execute Only ...................................................... 001 ......................... 1
    Write Only .......................................................... 010 ......................... 2
    Read Only .......................................................... 100 ......................... 4
    Write & Execute (Drop Box folder)....................... 011 ......................... 3
    Read & Execute (Read-only folder) ..................... 101 ......................... 5
    Read & Write ...................................................... 110 ......................... 6
    Read, Write, and Execute (Read/write folder)...... 111 ......................... 7
It's helpful to know these decimal representations, because they provide a quick shorthand for describing POSIX access. Typically, we use the decimal shorthand like this: (decimal bit representation of the POSIX special permissions field)(... of the POSIX owner field)(... for the group field)(... for the everyone field). Thus, a combination like owner read, write, and execute, group read & execute, and everyone else read & execute is 0755: Special permissions are 0 (000 binary), owner is 7 (111 binary - read, write, execute), group is 5 (101 - read and execute), and everyone is the same as group (101).
*How POSIX Access is Determined for a Connecting User* In determining POSIX access to a file or folder, a user can only be "given" the access of POSIX owner, POSIX group, or POSIX everyone. The system first checks to see if the connecting user is the POSIX owner; if so, the user gets the permission bits assigned to the owner field. Otherwise, the user's primary group is compared to the POSIX group assigned to the file or folder; if they match, the user is given POSIX group access. If that fails, then the POSIX group is queried for a list of member users to see if the connecting user is a member of that group; if so, the user is given POSIX group access. If all three fail, then the user is given access assigned to everyone else.
*How POSIX Permissions are Set for Newly-Created Files and Folders* When new files or folders are created within a parent, the following determines their POSIX permissions:
    1. The POSIX owner is the user who creates the file or folder.
    2. The POSIX group is set to the group of the folder's parent.
    3. POSIX permission bits (owner, group, everyone else) are set by the umask. The umask is 0022 by default, so default POSIX bits are 0755 (0644 for files) - owner read, write, group read, everyone read.
If the POSIX permissions were the extent of the permissions model, then we would have to either modify the umask (on each client) or adjust the server's behavior via an Inherit Permissions scheme. The first option is insecure, because you cannot just modify the umask for a particular server's share point - it would apply system-wide on the client computer, even for local files. The Inherit Permissions via POSIX was the method used by Mac OS X Server 10.3 and earlier.
Fortunately, you don't have to do either. That's where ACLs come in to play:
*ACL Permission Model* Access Control lists are just what you'd expect: a list of entries that describe what a user or group can or cannot do. Unlike POSIX, you can have a virtually unlimited number of ACL entries (or ACEs). Each ACE can apply to just a single user or a whole group of users. ACLs support two modes of operation, Allow or Deny, along with 24 unique controls arranged in four categories:
*Category ... Controls for Files Only ....... Folders Only .......................................................... Files & Folders*
Read ............... read and execute .............. list and search ........................................... readsecurity, readattr, readextattr
    Write ............... write and append .............. delete_child, add_file, add_subdirectory .... delete, writeattr, writeextattr
    Administer ............................................................................... ...................................... chown & writesecurity
    Inherit ............ file_inherit ......................... directory_inherit, limit_inherit .................... only_inherit
*How ACL Access is Determined for a Connecting User* Since each ACL entry can be either Allow or Deny, the system makes two "tallies" for the connecting user: one for applicable Allow ACEs and one for applicable Deny ACEs. An ACE applies to a connecting user only if the ACE is specifically for that user or if the user is a member of the group to which the ACE applies. The tallies are created by adding all applicable ACEs for each Allow/Deny category. Thus, the ACLs return two things: a list of deny controls and a list of allow controls.
*How ACLs are Inherited to Newly-Created Files and Folders* When new files or folders are created within a parent, the following determines their ACL permissions:
    1. If the file_inherit control is part of any listed ACE, that ACE is applied to newly-created files therein.
    2. If the directory_inherit control is part of any listed ACE, that ACE is applied to newly-created folders.
*How ACLs and POSIX Permissions Work Together* The access level returned from POSIX and the two ACL tallies are combined in the following way to determine the effective permissions:
*Effective Permissions = (POSIX Access) + (ACL Allow tallies) - (ACL Deny tallies)*
For each unique connecting user, the effective permissions will be calculated in the previous way.
*Solving Your Problem* You can easily use effective permissions to your advantage to solve your problem. Simply enable ACLs on the volume that houses your troublesome share point, and add a new ACL entry for the desired workgroup, granting it all read, write, and inherit controls. This way, when users create new items in the share point, they automatically inherit that ACE. You'll also have to propagate permissions for all items that are already inside of the share point after you've added the ACE.
Here's an easy way to do both with an ACE granting writers_group read/write/inheritance on some share point using chmod form the command-line:
    sudo chmod -R +a "writers_group allow readattr,readextattr,readsecurity,list,search,read,execute,\
    writeattr,writeextattr,delete,deletechild,add_file,addsubdirectory,write,append,\
    fileinherit,directoryinherit" /path/to/share_point
    Hope this helps!

  • Folder Actions script no longer runs on new file creation

Hope this isn't trivial.......first time posting here...hopefully in the right place.I'm not a total Mac OS X newbie...and surely no techie, either. Dabbled a wee bit with Automator and scratchin' my head on this one. Help, please!
Any idea why folder actions not running when a new file is saved? A simple add-color-label script created in Automator was workin' fine before I did a Snow Leopard-to-Leopard downgrade clean-install & account migration from external HD (TimeMachine) backup. Folder actions are enabled and script runs only if I start it with Automator Runner. Previously, it would label the file as soon as I saved it....now it needs a manual start. Is this default behavior in Leopard? Or am I missing something or doin' something wrong? Or is this a consequence of downgrade? I was sure I had the same script workin ok in my original Leopard install - though possibly un-modified at that time.
I have no clue why, but the new version I created recently (cpl wks ago?)worked the first time I added a new file but not thereafter...and in that instance it only labelled the file in Finder upon quitting Preview (file is a Grab saved as pdf).
The reason for the downgrade was compatibility problems with Photoshop CS4 on SL (OS & app all updated yet crashin' at the drop of a hat) - maybe due to lack of RAM? (only 1GB). Saw quite a few posts regarding SL running CS4 problems, so now I'm back to running 10.5.8 ..again.. and PS actually runs smooth like it did before.
Maybe these console messages are a help......or am I barkin' up the wrong tree?

Any help is greatly appreciated. Apologies if this seems long-winded.

Folder Actions are set up a bit differently in Leopard (they use an AppleScript wrapper), and several actions have been updated to use new technologies available in Snow Leopard.  Looking at some of your console logs, it looks like some actions or workflows were just copied over from Snow Leopard.  When changing versions like that, you should rebuild the workflows so that they link to the correct actions, and check added actions for any dependencies (an action won't be loaded if it requires resources that are not available).
Resaving your Folder Action workflow as a Folder Action Plug-in should do the trick.

  • Permissions in a folder are not applied to new files added by users over shared network

New files added to a shared folder do not inherit the permissions of the folder but rather retain the permissions of the user. Because the purpose of the folder on the network is to allow multiple users access to all the files (read and write), these new files cannot be accessed and editd by others. Is there a way to have the new files automatically inherit the folder permissons? I am aware of the "Apply to enclosed items " drop-down in the Get Info window but this is not practical given the number of new files that are produced and filed.
    THanks,
    JD

If it's the folder is on the boot drive then the only way to accomplish this is with a combination of groups and ACL's as far as I know. There may be other ways but this is the one I know.
You say the folder is on the network but is on the boot disk, how are you setting this up and are the users accessing this all from Mac's? And they all have accounts on this Mac?
In a nutshell you would setup a group that all the users needing to access the folder belong to and then setup the ACL on the fodder so that all member's of that group will have full permission to whatever is in the folder.
So first in Users&Groups create a group for this and add all the users who need access.
The do to the folder and change its group to the group you created and change its mode to 775 (or 770 if you don't want anyone else having even read access on the folder)
    Then enter this
    sudo chmod -R +a "GroupNameCreated  allow delete,chown,list,search,add_file,\
    add_subdirectory,delete_child,file_inherit,directory_inherit"  folderToChange
Now the weird thing is if you look at files in the folder they will appear to have the normal Unix mode of 644 but anyone in the group will have read, write and delete permission on the items in the folder.
I suggest you play with this on a test folder and seeing if it meets your needs before changing the working folder.
Also this will not change anything already in the folder it only applies to newly created files/folders

  • Automator and applescript to copy new files in a folder with same name as parent folder

I have an iMac with a pictures folder (Finder folder) containing several subfolders with pictures. As per now, all these subfolders are imported into an iPhoto library (and the structure of the Finder pictures folder is thus maintained: The iPhoto events are named the same as the Finder subfolder). I.e. I have not created any albums in iPhoto.
I have also set up a workflow, where new iPhone photos are automatically being synced to specified Finder folders within the iMac pictures folder. So what I want to do is to make a workflow to import potential new photos from week to week into the existing iPhoto structure. I know iPhoto has this Autoimport folder, so this one is unpacked and "mapped". So, this is what I´m hoping to do:
Automator (iCal - want to do this on a weekly basis):
    - Get specified Finder items -- set to target folder = iMac pictures folder
    - Get folder content (with subfolders)
    - Filter Finder items
         - Items from the last 7 days (which then would be any new files created last week)
    - Applescript/shell script loop(?)
         - Get folder name for each file´s (from previous step) parent folder
         - Create new folder with same name as the file´s parent folder (if not already existing) under the iPhoto Autoimport folder
         - Copy the given file into the folder from above
    - Run iPhoto application (Automator task), which then should just auto import the new photos according to the Finder folder structure
Whith the workflow above, I aim to maintain the existing iPhoto structure, and just import new photos into the existing structure. Creating folder names under the Autoimport, similar as the existing Finder folder names / iPhoto events should make it possible to have the new files imported under the existing event, right?

    Anyone?
I have now switched to Aperture (from iPhoto) due to Aperture´s capability to handle Finder folder structure, and due to the possibility of having the pictures within Aperture as referenced files to the pictures within the Finder folders (i.e. possibility to delete pictures from both library and Finder folder at the same time).
So I have a superior Finder folder called "Album". Within "Album" I have several subfolders (sub albums) containing pictures. The "Album" folder with subfolders are imported into Aperture as "Projects and albums", and the pictures are uploaded within the Aperture structure as referenced files. So for now the Aperture structure is more or less a direct mirror of the Finder folder structure, whereas "Album" is the project.
And this is my current workflow in Automator, but I´m searching help with my Applescript:
    - Get specified Finder items (target folder = the superior Finder folder "Album")
    - Get Folder content
    - Filter Finder items (to look for potential new files to import into Aperture)
         - Kind is not folder
         - Date created last X days
The output files from this task enters an Applescript
    on run {input, parameters}
