New FIos Internet user

Hoping someone can help a new FIOS internet user that's not much of a tech person.  I have a new Verizon FIOS connection at home and an ActionTec wireless router connected to a box on the wall by coax cable.  No problem with the wireless connection to my two family laptops, nice strong signal all through the house.
I want to connect two powered switches by ethernet cable to the ports on the router.  One to connect my DirectTV box and bluray player so they have internet connections, and one in my basement to run a desktop PC that doesn't have a wireless card in it.  Are there any problems with this?  Does Verizon allow me to have two separate switches connected to the router which then power multiple items?  Thanks!
Solved!
Go to Solution.

You should have no problem connecting a switch to each of two ports on the Actiontec, and then feeding multiple devices from those switches.  I'm doing that myself.
However, I don't understand why you need a switch in the circuit between the router and the desktop PC in the basement.  If there's only going to be one device connected in the basement a direct run of Cat 5e or Cat 6 cable from an Actiontec port to the basement PC should do the trick.

  • New FiOS Internet Customer Lied to By Sales Rep - EXTREMELY UNHAPPY

I had FIOS Internet installed in my new apt about a month ago. Before moving, I conducted my due diligence among the providers in my area. In order to sell me on the product, I had a couple chats with Sales Reps, which was documented on some type of call log. Anyways - on the last call I had, the Sales Rep convinced me to order FIOS Internet over the phone. She assured me that she would be able to match the price as reflected and promoted online. I wanted the 25/25 Internet service which was 49.99 for the first 12 months, and 69.99 for following 12 months. The Sales Rep then sent me the confirmation e-mail displaying the price. I immedaitely notified the Sales Rep that the discount offer was not reflected, but she assured me that it would show up on my bill. She even went so far as to get a manager on the line to confirm that. The reason the Sales Rep said it wasnt reflected was due to a glitch/outage they were experiencing. Allegedly - the outage would not allow the proper discounts and credits to appear on their screen, but again she assure me that this would not be the case when I received my bill. On that condition (receiving a proper bill with the appropriate quoted price) I approved of the deal.
A month later, I received a bill THAT DID NOT REFLECT WHAT WAS PROMISED. After waiting for Verizon to amend the bill, to no avail, I decided to call Customer Service. That was an absolute waste of my time - an hour and change to hear the same story (not to mention the first Customer Service Rep deliberately hanging up on me after about 30 min). That what the Sales Rep said was not true - Sales Rep's cant match the online prices. [As an aside - why on Earth can't Sales Rep's for Verizon match the price that Verizon offers? That is very weird to me. You all work for the same company.].
Why cant Verizon match what was offered/promoted - and what is currently being promoted at the moment on the web?
To support my claim with facts - why would I agree to a $74.99+ price quote (that of 'no annual contract') for a 24 mo contract - when the 24 mo. contract obviously has a discounted price. Furthermore, in my due diligence and research, why would I agree to take a higher price when the quote online for the same service is far lower? All this implies is that in fact the Sales Rep did assure me that she could "match" the price promoted - there is no logical reason for me to accept anything else.
I need this to be resolved or I will soon cancel this service and move over to TWC. What this really amounts to is misrepresentation by the Sales Rep, and an unreliable Customer Service.

  • How to Create BP in a new role - Internet User

    Hi Guru's,
I have a requirement where I need to create BP in role Internet User (BP005) from WEBUI without using the BP Role Assignment block. The condition is, There is a marketing attribute(a checkbox)  in BP_HEAD Account Detials View which when checked should automatically try to create BP in role Internet User on Save.
I tried using the ON_SAVE method in BP_HEAD_ACCOUNTDETAILS_IMPL and called BAPI_BP_ROLE_ADD_2 and passed all the values but it gives me an error message saying the BP is locked by me, which makes sense because I am actually editing the same BP.
I am trying to trigger this using an existing relation, but not able to figure out what relation it is or how & where can I code that. Please help...
Surprisingly I could not find any posts similar to my requirement in this forum.
    Thanks,
    Kumar

    Hi Frederick,
That was very helpful, I am able to trigger the creation of the role but it is not saving in backend for some reason. When I change the BP again and save it , this time it says the BP is already created in that role except I don't see that in backend. I can see it has been created somehow in tables but in Tx: BP in Gui the Contact is not in that role. I am guessing it is something to do with authorizations from the WEBUI for on save event. But I got an initial start. Can you tell me if you had to assign any specific roles to WEBUI user or any special authorizations?
    Thanks,
    Sunil

  • Brand new FIOS internet customer and...

I signed up for the 50/25 and this morning I was easily getting that speed and a little more.  This evening on the verizon speed test I'll burst up to maybe 30 then drop in the single digits and the test wont even complete.  I've tried this every which way possible even direct connected to the FIOS router with a CAT6 cable.  So I decided to try out the optimizer program except when I go to download it my AV on my firewall says its a trojan.  Is this what I signed up for for the next 2 years??????

  • Constant Lose of Internet / New Fios Customer.

    HI,
I am a new Fios customer, unfortunately after the first few hours I lost my internet service.  I rebooted the MI424WR router several times with no luck... I needed to call tech support so they can break the IP lease. They will be sending me a new router, but my husband who is an I.T. Tech, is very upset, and would like the Fios service techs to come down and look at the issue.
Wondering if any of the following may be the cause:
    1. ONT issue
    2. Access point issue from down the block from me.
    3. Splitter issue
    4. Did a Google search for MI424WR internet drops & we saw a ton of people with this issue.
Would like to hear from anybody with any suggestions!
    Thanks

Sorry to hear about the problems with the service. Since you got the new router, is everything working again?

  • New FIOS customer with dropped VOIP calls and Internet connection

I am a new FIOS customer. Got my 50/25 connection a week ago, switching from a TWC 6/1 connection. Ever since the new connection, I've had numerous issues.
My VOIP (Ooma) connection constantly drops and re-connects during conversations
I've had random Internet connection losses, which picks up again after a few minutes
My home alarm starts chirping every once in a while
I've contacted Verizon several times due to these problems and have received varying answers with no resolution of the problem.
The first time I spoke with support, the tech logged into my router and changed the WiFi channel saying that would fix the problem. It didn’t.
The second time I contacted them, the tech ran a bunch of diagnostics and said everything looked fine so it must be an IP address conflict with my devices, because I had a couple devices using static IP addresses. He said everythinf should be DHCP and the last two digits could not be higher than 99 (192.168.1.99). He said FIOS does not support 3-digit numbers at the end.
So I changed all my devices to DHCP and ran some online VOIP tests. It showed a packet loss of 2-5% and MOS score of 1 (which is bad). I was still getting dropped connections, so I disconnected all devices and connected just one computer to the router and tested again. I was still getting packet loss.
Then I called support a third time, this time the tech said there were no 2-digit IP restrictions and that he was detecting there was no UPS baterry backup for the ONT which was probably causing the problem, so he dispatched a field tech to my house.
Today the field tech came (same guy as before), he took one look at the box and said it was too close to my Electric meter and the RF from the meter was causing interference to the FIOS connection and resulting in dropped connection.
He moved the ONT to another location and said that should fix it.
Well, I'm still seeing packet loss and low MOS score when I run the VOIP test.
I don't know how much of what the techs are saying is true and how much is made up stuff.
Has anyone had similar issues and have thoughts on solutions or likely causes for dropped VOIP calls and connections? Could RF be causing this?
I thought going from a 6/1 Cable connection to a 50/25 FIOS connection would be awesome, but this has turned out to be a nightmare, and I may have to switch back to cable if the problem is not resolved.
    I would appreciate any help.
    Thanks!

Don't know where the packet loss is happening. I ran the VOIP test on myspeed.visualware.com and it shows a packet loss of 2-5% at different times and a MOS score of 1.
The report says MOS should be around 4 for good VOIP calls.
The Verizon tech who came to the house just blamed the electric meter box for RF interference and move the ONT farther away.
My concern is that I'm getting different answers from different techs at Verizon.
Regarding IP addresses. The Router shows a DHCP range from 192.162.1.2 to 192.168.1.254 as available for devices on the network. So, if I need to assign a static IP to a device should I use a number below 99 or above 151?
    Thanks!

  • New FIOS router, VIsta Laptop Cannot Access Internet

I too have the new FIOS router with 75/35 speed.  I have just been trying to install the router and have been successful in getting wifi connected on two devices (Win 7 laptop and Kindle), but I cannot get my Vista laptop to access the internet.  It shows the wifi being connected but no internet connection.
Does this have something to do with the Vista OS?
Thank you in advance for your help.

Anyone at Verizon who is paying attention would realize this problems is many years old with no solution.  People are literally begging for help in dozens of online forums, to no avail (Google search usually provides me results faster than any tech support).  I have the exact same issue.  All my wireless devices connect to the internet through the Verizon MI424WR router with no problem.  My Vista laptop connects just fine via Ethernet cable, but not the wireless.  I can make a wireless connection to the router, and the router admin page shows it is, in fact, connected, but absolutely NO connection to internet is possible.
BTW, the laptop had no problem for years connecting to the internet via a Linksys WRT54G connected to Verizon DSL.
All that the troubleshooting "guide" provides is the usual basic "plug in, turn off, turn on, reset" nonsense that might help only those who can't stop their VCR clock from blinking.
So please, Verizon, bump this up to a FAQ (because it is VERY frequently asked), and help us find a solution.

  • Verizon's new FiOS GigE Wireless N Router and High Speed Internet

So I got a deal in the mail to get an upgrade to [50/25] Mbps Internet (I currently have [15/5]...when I was reviewing it on line this message came up...
Verizon will provide up to [50/25] Mbps Internet with a wired connection. If you use your Internet primarily for wireless or WiFi connections, you have the option to upgrade to Verizon's new FiOS GigE Wireless N Router which will maximize your speed delivered through your wireless connection.
Upon completion of your order, you'll be provided with information for purchasing a router at Verizon's online equipment and accessories store.
I am VERY interested in getting super fast internet...my current internet is really good but it wouldnt hurt to bump it up.  I have several devices using internet in the home...most of them wireless (including my PS3).  I currently use a Verizon Actiontec router.
So here is my question...do I really need to get the above router to take advantage of that [50/25]? Also one other thing...My house is fairly large and I would really like to have two routers...is it possible to use two routers or a setup to have one upstairs and another downstairs?
Thanks in advance for the answers!
    -Jest

There are a lot of variables that affect wireless range.
Walls, interference, other networks in the area, etc.
You don't indicate which older Actiontec you have.
Wireless capabilities also vary by Actiontec hardware revision (A,C,D,E,F,G,I).
In general, wireless range for 802.11n is somewhat less than 802.11g, even though the bandwidth is higher.
This is especially true on the 5Ghz band (which the latest Actiontec doesn;t support).
If you only need another 10 feet, you could try moving the router, or replacing the antenna with a high gain antenna.

  • I don't have a question so much as a comment for APPLE. I am a new iPhone 5s user and it has many things I like but It is too small and I can only talk on the phone and use the internet if i am in a position to use a wifi connection and that is not good

I am a new iPhone 5s user. I like many of the features it offers. I don't like that I cannot talk and use the internet (if I am away from WI-FI) and this phone is too small. I am actually thinking of returning it and going back to an Android. After all the hassle it took to get all my stuff working on this phone , it may be worth the switch. This phone needs to be able to multitask freely in this day and age. Also Safari is not the best search engine but I could work with it if I could talk and use it at the same time. I use my phone for business and this is a feature that is needed in my line of work.

    TJBUSMC1973 wrote:
The iPhone is working, as designed and advertised.  In this case, the user failed to educate themselves properly, either by proper research or asking the right questions, before purchasing the device.
I understand that the OP failed to do research. But then, I wasn't replying to the OP. I was replying to Chris. I have Verizon. I can talk and use data at the same time with my Droid Maxx. Therefore, the problem is not just with the network. It would be technically possible for an iPhone to do that on Verizon/Sprint if Apple had chosen to use a different chip, such as the kind other phone manufacturers have elected to use.
Of course, this is probably all irrelevant to the OP's issue. It was merely a point of clarification, especially for those people who are used to being able to use both voice and data at the same time on Verizon. When they switch to an iPhone, they are often surprized at the limitation.
    Best of luck.

  • FiOS Internet Activation fee NOT Waived - New Customer

Until Apr-2015, 2014 we were using residential services of a competitor ISP and experienced very poor customer service and many hidden billing charges. We had to live with it because our apartment doesn't have the setup for other service providers. So we decided to switch to a different provider once the lease ended and we chose Verizon because of its exceptional Internet sped and Quuality customer service. On 07/09/2015 I placed an order Verizon FiOS for my new apartment and was exceited! The order was palced through a local FiOS agent and I chose the FiOS double pay (50/50 package). Over the phone I was very specific to ask for any hidden charges and the agent mentioned no hidden charges and I would be paying the Bundle price plus rent for router and set-top-box. I also checked if there would be any installation or activation and the Agent did mention that it will all be waived for 'New-Customers'. To double confirm, I called up the verizon customer service the same day and they mentioned the same. Thinking it was hassle-free, I requested my agent to place an order. When I received my first bill, I found a charge of $69.99 for FiOS Internet Activation Fee split into 3 months with first installment of $23.33. I assumed it could be an error or usual routine and hoped it would be waived if I call up and request (like the competitor). I reached out to an agent via chat initially and explained the situation. To my surprise I was told that there are 'no notes in the order mentioning the activation fee will be waived, so it cannot be honored'. Surpsied and shocked, I called up the customer service and mentioned the same story again. This time the answer was 'We never mentioned this will be waived and have never waived for any customers. Like others, this charge has to be paid'. I insisted that the local agent and the customer service agent I spoke on 07/09/2015 did mention that the activation fee would be waived. It is also clearly mentioned here that activatoin fee will be waived for Double-Pay (See attached image and link below http://www.verizon.com/home/bundles/fios)  I am very disappointed and just tired of making phone calls and debating with custoomer service. The only reason I switched to verizon was there is a lot of transparency, no surprises and BEST CUSTOMER SATISFACTION. And I wouldn't ask for something I am not entitled to or promised initially. And, If this is what I am going to experience with Verizon to get this waiver or any other reason, I could very well manage to stay with the competitior so there are no disappointments :-(. I am hereby requesting the team to validate this and give a better solution for a new-customer who switched services to Verizon and willing to continue for a longer duration.

  • Email photos from iPhoto 8 with Verizon Fios internet

I am totally new to the wonderful mac world. I have a new iMac with Verizon Fios internet. When I try to automatically setup for emailing photos it tries to setup something with "incoming.yahoo....
How do I go about setting up email sharing of photos?

    mrmole
To email photos from within iPhoto you need to use one of the following applications for email:
    1. Apple's Mail (it comes with your Mac)
    2. Entourage
    3. AOL
    4. Eudora
Only these four apps allow direct emailing from within iPhoto. You make your choice in the iPhoto Menu -> Preferences -> General pane.
OF course, you need to set up these clients to work for email with your own email settings. Fir details on how to do that you'll ned to consult the Help on the particular app.
If you use Web-based email, you cannot email from within iPhoto. In that case you can use one, some or any of the following:
For 10.5 users: You can use any Open / Attach / Browse dialogue. On the left there's a Media heading, your pics can be accessed there. Apple-Click for selecting multiple pics.
    Uploaded with plasq's Skitch!
To upload to a site that does not have an iPhoto Export Plug-in the recommended way is to Select the Pic in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export and export the pic to the desktop, then upload from there. After the upload you can trash the pic on the desktop. It's only a copy and your original is safe in iPhoto.
This is also true for emailing with Web-based services. If you're using Gmail you can use iPhoto2GMail
If you use Apple's Mail, Entourage, AOL or Eudora you can email from within iPhoto. With 10.5 you can access the Library from the New Message Window in Mail:
    Uploaded with plasq's Skitch!
If you use a Cocoa-based Browser such as Safari, you can drag the pics from the iPhoto Window to the Attach window in the browser.
Or, if you want to access the files with iPhoto not running, then create a Media Browser using Automator (takes about 10 seconds) or use THIS
    Other options include:
    1. *Drag and Drop*: Drag a photo from the iPhoto Window to the desktop, there iPhoto will make a full-sized copy of the pic.
    2. *File -> Export*: Select the files in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export. The dialogue will give you various options, including altering the format, naming the files and changing the size. Again, producing a copy.
    3. *Show File*: Right- (or Control-) Click on a pic and in the resulting dialogue choose 'Show File'. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.
    Regards

How do I clean up my new FIOS connection? I just cahnged ISP Fios and they reqquired a router of thier own in front of my AirPort Extreme. Since then I have blinking yellow light on the AirPort and AirPort utility keeps promting for an edit. Suggests canging from NAT to "Bridge mode". Obviuosly U have some internet or this post would not go anywhere, my knowledge base is not enought to feel comfortable with changing the settings. Correctly editing can be tricky, so how do I make necessary changes?

How do I clean up my new FIOS connection?
The FIOS router needs to be in Bridge Mode to prevent the Double NAT error from occurring when two routers are both fighting with each other for control of the network.
Unfortunately, the likely problem from the FIOS side is that FIOS support will either tell you that their router cannot be configured to operate in Bridge Mode, or if it can, they will not tell you how to do it.
But, it could not hurt to check with FIOS to see if anything might have changed recently in this regard, so your first call would be to FIOS support.
If you cannot change the FIOS router to Bridge Mode, the alternate plan would be to change the AirPort Extreme to Bridge Mode. If you are using the Guest Network feature on the AirPort Extreme at this time, that feature will not work correctly when the AirPort is set up in Bridge Mode.

  • What wiring changes involved in upgrading from FIOS internet to FIOS internet + TV with DVR

We have FIOS internet now with Actiontec router but we still have Comcast TV. I am considering switching over to FIOS for TV too but would like to know what wiring changes would be involved, if any. I'll describe the current setup.  We have a couple of soho LANS and new wiring cannot be run to the two soho LANs.
    ONT.....coax cable......4-way coax splitter...
Splitter Leg#1 goes to the Actiontec router.
Splitter Leg#2 goes to coax line to a home office. There's an ethernet-coax bridge (Actiontec ECB2200) and a router for a small soho LAN there.
Splitter Leg#3 goes to coax line to the attic. In the attic there's an ethernet-coax bridge (Actiontec ECB2200) and a router for a secon small soho LAN there.
    Splitter Leg#4 is free.
Will adding FIOS TV be as simple as attaching a coax cable to Leg#4 on the splitter and connecting that coax to the DVR?

    tr888 wrote:

Absolutely.  All you have to worry about is running the RG6 coax from the splitter to the DVR, and Verizon may even cover that depending on the terms of your install.  Good luck..

  • FIOS Internet connection reset on the verizon side

I am a new subscriber of the FIOS internet after having Comcast for years.  I like the service speed, etc.. but I have one nagging issue that I can't seem to get any help with.
I have the ethernet from the ONT plugged directly into my firewall (same one I used for years with comcast) and every 1 hour 55 minutes and 3 seconds it immediately drops the connection and then restarts it.  This is a problem as there are many times I am in the middle of a vpn session and once it kills my connection I lose what I was doing, etc.
    Any ideas or suggestions?
Here is a snippet of my FW log showing the drops:
This is repeated every 1:55:03 in my logs.....
    Primary Cable Modem connection terminated after 1 hour(s), 55 minute(s), 3 second(s).
Primary Cable Modem connection established, IP address XX.XX.XX.XX assigned.

Wondering if it has to do something with renewing the lease?  Getting a new ip addy each time?
Perhaps the firewall you have the internet running through isn't working well with the renewing of your lease -- seems like it since it appears it happens on set intervals.  Maybe there is something you could modify in the firewall settings?
