[NEW HDD for 3000 K100]

Hello everyone,
May I replace the old HDD (already formated/partitions and lost everything on it) with new HDD by only using recovery CD to get the system (Vista OS) up and running?
Your answer will be much appreciated.

You should look into something called Acronis true image. I see in the Lenovo forums about people using them all the time with no problems what so ever. An example is someone used it to copy the old drive to a new drive (like your wanting to do) and booted up with no problems. They had everything. The only thing I did see is that you can not put it to a smaller drive (don't see why someone would want to do that anyways)

  • Need new HDD for Satellite L300-1BD

    Hey,
the HDD in my Toshiba Satellite laptop isn't working anymore.
So I'm going to buy a new one today but which one do i need? Like how many inch? And is it a SATA connection or something?
Could someone please tell me to what i have to look when I buy a new HDD for this laptop

    Hello Vivendi
One thing is strange to me: I presume that your L300 notebook is pretty new one and I don't understand why you want to buy new HDD. Is warranty still valid?
Please check it. If the warranty is still valid contact nearest authorized service provider and I am sure you will get replacement for free.
If you want to buy it I also presume you want to replace it alone. So, remove the old HDD and on the white label you will find all necessary information about HDD.
Anyway, you need 2,5 SATA HDD.

  • Installing OS on a new HDD for imac with no installed HDD

    Hi all
I am looking to buy an iMac 27", but it doesnt come with a HDD
So I wanted to know if I buy a new HDD for it, can I install Mavericks onto it and fit it to the iMac? How would I go about doing this?
I dont have access to another mac but I do have access to a windows machine. Can I do it from there?
    Any help appreciated
    Thanks

Where are you buying an iMac 27-inch, Late 2009 model that has no internal hard disk drive?
Having to assume it was removed by an original owner, does the computer work? Was it tested by use of an externally enclosed HDD with a correct bootable system installed?
There are various repair and upgrade guides online, several topics among them and several are free to view or use. There likely is an iFixit guide that may cover that vintage of iMac 27-inch build year model.
Not sure which iMac 27-inch model guide applies to your computer,
    some appear here http://www.ifixit.com/Device/iMac_Intel
While considering the hard disk drive, be sure that if there are any sensors or special cables required to be in place and attached to a new replacement, they are in place and working; some users of later models found when a hard disk drive was replaced, their fans ran at high and uncontrolled speeds due to lack of sensor input. The default situation was for the computer act as though the unit was overheated. And third party fan control software to set a fan at low slower speeds does not take into account faster speeds are needed to cool iMacs. Yours may not exhibit this issue, but I am not certain either way.
When you get it set up, with HDD and original Snow Leopard installed & updated to 10.6.8, be sure to check to see if there are any hardware or firmware updates. I see there was one listed for your model and it may already be installed...

  • My new HDD for Macbook pro 13" unibody is not recognized and I am using a new SATA cable

    Hey everyone,
I have a particular problem that I cannot seem to find an answer to.  My new 500gb internal drive for my Macbook Pro 13" unibody is not recognized.  The old HDD broke on me so I bought a new one but my macbook pro would not recognize it.  To troubleshoot that issue I purchased the SATA cable and replaced the old with the new.  The new HDD still will not show up in disk utility.
Please let me know what you think I may have missed or should do.
    Thank you

    jc1388,
Bring it to an Apple store Genius bar (make an appointment, so you don,t have to wait around forever) they will diagnose it for free and tell you your options/pricing. They have more extensive testing tools, maybe your logic board is failing/failed.
    best of luck

  • Problem with new HDD for Imac

I have installed a new HDD on my Imac power PC (!0.4.7) On powering up the disk utility can see the new HDD, but it says it is unmounted and it is not visible in list of volumes available for installing the OS. How can I wake it up?

You need to format it as Mac OS Extended (Journaled) in Dick Utility.
You do this by selecting Erase from the options at the top of the window.

  • New HDD for Tecra M2

    Hi,
I want to install a new HDD 80 GB on my Tecra M2 1,8 GHz, bought it dec 2004. In that days a new 80 GB HDD was the product PA3230U-1H80. Now a new HDD of 80 GB for Tecra M2 is under the name PA3407-2H80. Can I use the latter in my Tecra M2 (of 2004)?
    Thanks in advance.
    Dr Weekx R

I have a Tecra M2 from around 2004. it has a large number of pieces changed in it. I've upgraded the processor from 1.5Ghz to 2.0Ghz (tho this does require the microcode updating). A replacement HD from the standard 40Gb to a hitachi 100Gb 7200rpm drive. The wireless LAN can to a Atheros miniPCI card. Also replaced the CD/DVD combo drive with a pioneer DVD-dual layer burner (which required some soldering on the adapter board, as toshiba don't follow standards for master slave configurations).
I must add that this was all carried out, after the warrenty had expired. The only other thing to upgrade is the LCD screen, which I have sourced to a company in german. as the UK are a complete rip off.
My point is that the Tecra M2 is upgradable, tho you do need to do your homework first. don't just go and purchase the first bit of hardware appears.

  • Buying new HDD for laptop - What happens to WIndows? p755-s5269

Hi all, I am experiencing an unfortunate truth with my laptop.  Windows (and Linux) both got excruciatingly slow yesterday for no reason whatsoever.  Upon booting into Windows it said that my hard disk was going to kick the bucket sometime soon.  So I called customer support and I did all that they told me to do, except buying the Windows Recovery CD.  Firstly, the hard drive is going out, not the software so I was screwed anyway.  So now that I have deleted the linux partitions, and now using a LiveUSB of OpenSUSE, I know I am going to lose Windows.  However, I saw that there are product keys at the bottom of the laptop.
My question:  What will happen to Windows 7 when my new HDD arrives?  Will I not be able to transfer the OS key to the new hard drive?  I can delete all of the partitions anyway to where I have nothing on the HDD if that will help.
    Thanks in advanced!

Presumably it will use updated drivers when it creates the media.
No, Sally. That partition never changes. You get recovery media that restores the hard disk to its original out-of-the-box contents (including the hidden partition which contains the same old recovery image).

  • New HDD for Inspiron Duo

Hello, my Inspiron Duo's HDD is defective and I can't recover it. I have a new HDD but I don't know how to install Windows in it, as the Duo BIOS doesn't support boot by an USB device and it doesn't have a CD/DVD-reader. How can I replace the HDD and install the OS in it?
    Thank you.

This system can boot from a USB flash drive however you need installation media. If you have a Windows 7 Reinstallation DVD see here:
    http://dellwindowsreinstallationguide.com/converting-your-dell-windows-reinstallation-dvd-into-a-reinstallation-usb/
If not your best bet is to install Windows 10 TP (32 Bit) from USB (use the MBR partition scheme):

  • New hdd for my macbook pro 15'' from 2007

Hi mi macbook pro is 15'' and from 2007. I've been told by one guy from regent street in london from the stuff that i need to replace my HDD, and im looking on webs for one. But mine is 2GHZ INTEL CORE DUO, but all i can find are Core 2 duo, and not sure if im gonna buy it and then dont work on my laptop. Can someone help me?

Whether you have a Core Duo or Core 2 Duo is irrelevant to replacing a HDD.
You need a 2.5 inch notebook SATA drive that is not more than 9.5 mm high. I would recommend a Seagate product. You can install drives up to 1 TB, but be sure it isn't more than 9.5 mm high. Since I am in the US I cannot recommend a place to buy drives or what their prices will be. However, you can check out OWC to for their video tutorials on how to replace a drive in your model.
I would suggest you might consider buying a newer computer model as yours is completely obsolete.

  • New HDD for 2007 Macbook A1181

Folks I have been using my Macbook since it was purchased new.  Operating snow leopard 10.6.8 with a 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo with 4 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM.  The original HDD was getting full with running a lot of the software programs (Photoshop, Aperture, etc).  So I decided to replace the HDD. The following will show everyone that I am totally a rookie to this computer stuff.
I pulled the HDD and placed a 1T 5400 drive.  WD SATA.  The install went like clockwork after backing up the system on a 1T external HD.  Then as most have read I got the ? of death on boot up.  I quickly realized that I could boot up and work off External.  I also booted up off the start up disc and the HDD doesn't show up.  It seems after reading a lot of post's that Apple doesn't like upgrade unless purchasing a new unit is the upgrade.  That is not in my budget at the present point so I turn to the masses to assist me in solving my problem.
If I have to partition the Drive I am game for trying that but can't determine the size 320G or 500G?  The other issue is the upgrade to Lion so that all my other systems can sync via the cloud.  I have no idea how partition a drive so if someone has a link on how to do that operating off the external drive I am all for that as well.  I thank anyone in advance because this computer is partially my livelyhood.
    Blair Darst

    OK. Try this:
    Drive Preparation
    1. Open Disk Utility in your Utilities folder.
    2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status of the drive in DU's status area.  If it does not say "Verified" then the drive is failing or has failed and will need replacing.  SMART info will not be reported  on external drives. Otherwise, click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
    3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
    4. Select the volume you just created (this is the sub-entry under the drive entry) from the left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
    5. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Security button, check the button for Zero Data and click on OK to return to the Erase window.
    6. Click on the Erase button. The format process can take up to several hours depending upon the drive size.
If you have more than one partition then repeat Steps 4-6 for each partition.
If you want more than one partition on the drive, then follow this modification to Step 3:
    3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to the number of partitions you desire. Use the sizer to change the sizes of each partition to whatever you prefer. If you want equal sized partitions, then you don't need to change anything. Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
Now, if you want to transfer the system on the external drive to one of the partitions on the newly formatted internal drive do this:
Clone using Restore Option of Disk Utility
Open Disk Utility from the Utilities folder.
Select the destination volume from the left side list.
Click on the Restore tab in the DU main window.
Check the box labeled Erase destination.
Select the destination volume from the left side list and drag it to the Destination entry field.
Select the source volume from the left side list and drag it to the Source entry field.
Double-check you got it right, then click on the Restore button.
Destination means the desired volume on the new internal drive. Source means the external startup drive.

  • New HDD for a Portage 2010

I have recently bought a second hand Portage 2010 but unfortunately the HDD has failed. The HDD is a MK3004GAH, I've searched the web and can't find anyone selling a replacement. I have tried ordering a MK4008GAH but it has a different interface that is not compatable. Does anyone know what drive I should buy to replace the MK3004GAH and where I should buy it from?
    Thanks

Obviously it is not easy to find HDD replacement for this notebook model. I dont know where you live but you can check this page http://www.laptopbits.co.uk/Database_files/Toshiba_Portege_2000_and_2010_series_spares.htm and pick up some useful info.
    Good luck!

  • Re: Need new HDD for Satelloite A40-702

    Hiya,
My friend has an old Toshiba A40-702 and the 40GB IDE hard drive has died. The smallest new IDE drive I can buy where I live is 160GB, does anyone know if the laptop will recognise a hard drive of this size? I have searched the web and Toshibas site but not found any definite details as the maximum hard drive size.
    Thanks

    Hi slippyjim,
I cant imagine that 60GB HDD wouldnt work because the controller has an 28bit LBA limitation that means all HDDs up to 128GB would work and you can use the full disk space.
So 60GB, 80GB or 120GB HDDs should work properly.
Have a look on some online shops. There are a lot of different manufactures they produce such HDDs with IDE interface.

  • New HDD for MacBook

Firstly I just want to say hello to everybody on apple discousion boards, it's my first post.
I would like to ask you for help. I have MacBook 2,2 Ghz Core Duo (late 2007), few days ago I installed 4 GB ram (I recommend it everyone who has this model works now wonderful). Now I'm looking for good HDD becouse this 120 GB are not enought.
I know that I must look for HDD that is quiet and works without taking much energy from battery. My question is how big HDD can I install in my MacBook and what you recommend?
    Cheers

There is no limit to the maximum capacity you can install. The only thing you need to be concerned with is the physical height of the drive. It must be a 9mm drive. For the most part, just about all notebook drives currently in production are 9mm... but there are still a few out there that are thicker... just something to look out for... but not something you're likely to encounter. Be sure the drive is an SATA drive (not ATA or IDE). Other than that, the choice is yours. There is little difference in power consumption from manufacturer to manufacturer. Your other option is speed... either 7200 RPM or 5400 RPM. Generally, you can get a higher maximum capacity on a 5400 RPM drive. The performance and power consumption on both isn't different enough with modern drives to make too much of a difference.
