  • New imac doesnt have a dvd drive, how do i ...?

so, since the new imac doesnt have a dvd drive what is an alternative way to watch mymovvies and download cd's ? i think apple messed up removing the dvd drive and people that have/will buy thew imac deserve a refund or something to connect to the imac that reads discs or something.

If you bought an AV on DVD, then it's you who failed to buy the correct product.  You can buy lots of different AVs through download.
If you needed a computer with a built in DVD drive, then it's you who failed to buy the correct product for your needs, if you weren't willing to buy the seperate DVD drive.
Keep in mind, you also never payed for a DVD drive in the first place, since the computer's price would have been adjusted accordingly.  So you don't get something for free that you never payed for in the first place.

  • Cant install spore from USB backup disk on new IMACS that have no DVD drive.

I am trying to test Spore on my father's new Imac but it will not let me install.
I copied the whole DVD content on a portable USB drive and I can install it fine from there via my own MAC but from my father's new IMAC 2012 that has no DVD drive I am greeted by the error.
"could not verify the integrity of the installer"
    any ideas why?

Actually I resolved the issue. My system is 10.7 not Mountain Lion.
I resolved the issue by moving all the content to the root of the portable drive: they were in a subfolder called SPORE which caused the installation to be unrecognizable.
    Thanks for helping !

  • I stupidly pushed an SD card into the DVD drive slot,

how should I proceed? MBP mid 2010
I know, how did you do that? my wife was distracting me and the slot is on the right side on my Imac..

On AppleCare warranty? Hightail it to an Apple Store or an Apple Authorized Service Provider. Have them take off the optical drive and get the card out. Keeps your warranty intact.
Else decide whether you want to be a Do It Yourself hero or not. No? See above. Yes? www.powerbookmedic.com or www.ifixit.com have instructions on how to take the optical drive off the Mac, after which you can shake the card out.
Somebody might suggest trying to fish the card out, but from the size of the slot on the aluminum unibody, you're most likely to scratch the case, damage the drive and ruin the card. Taking the drive off is much safer, albeit a bit more involved.
EDIT: are you talking about your MacBook Pro or an iMac? This is the MBP forum....

  • IMac G5 bluetooth + airport + power supply problems - oh and the dvd drive

Yeah, seems like a lot is going wrong with my mac lately. I bought the iMac G5(no isight) model last year around july. I had some power issues (i.e. leaving the house with it turned on to come home and find it off) For the last year though that was all that was wrong. Once I had to reinstall OS X because it would not find the OS X harddrive during one of these power losses, but that was it.
Then about two weeks ago, I came home to a turned off iMac. I thought the power had gone out in my apartment, but the clocks were all right, and to my surprise the iMac would not turned on. Because I am not under warranty I searched online and found an extended exchange program for my emc model. (http://www.apple.com/support/imac/powersupply/repairextension/) I made an appt at the apple store and they replaced the power supply.
I got the machine back two nights ago and my bluetooth hardware wasn't recognized. And I now had a new "ink" system preference panel in the hardware section which aparently is some sort of handwriting recognition tablet. It ticked me off, but I just wanted to use my computer.
Well today I came home from work and my computer was acting funny. Everywhere I clicked brought up dashboard. This had never happened before and I had no choice but to force a shutdown. Powered it back up and poof, there goes my airport card. No hardware recognized. Now I have a 25 ft cable running the floor of my apartment. This was cause enough to call apple. I was told to make another apointment to bring the computer in. The guy made it sound like it was no big deal to lug a 30 lb bulky computer 40 miles and through a crowded mall. He also made no promises that the repairs would be covered under the exchange program.
I just wanted to hear any suggestions before I decide whether or not its worth it to bring in the computer. Nothing shows up in system profiler under bluetooth or airport. Should I just lie to the "genius" and tell them that my computer still shuts down randomly? I think that way they would at least replace the logic board (which I think is the problem) before telling me to sell my kidney and pay for repairs. I've tried reseting the SMU, and I looked at the bluetooth and airport cards to see if they had been accidently disconnected during the PS replacement. They are actually screwed into the logic board so I think their connections are efficient.
Oh and about the DVD drive. I have to use two cd's in order to burn a single disc. The first disc I put in the drive NEVER works. It spins for about 30 seconds then starts buzzing like blender and spits the cd back out. The second blank disc I put in USUALLY works, but sometimes it takes three discs. This problem has always been there since day 1, but I don't burn enough cd's for it to be an issue.
Thank you for listening to my gripes. I really don't think I'll make the mistake of buying the first issue of a model.
    iBook G4 900mghz, iMac G5 20" 2.0 ghz   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

OK, first thing -to restore your bluetooth, shut down, unplug for a few minutes and then reboot. Thay usually brings the BT back. You should also repair permissions. Reset your SMU nd your PRAM as well.
Try those four things and please post back,
    Miriam

  • Am I correct that none of the latest iMac's have a DVD Drive or Firewire port?

Am I correct that none of the latest iMac's have a DVD Drive or Firewire port?

I actually use an external optical drive as all of my family and friends (including the ones in other countries) prefer to get the movies I produce on a DVD they can put in their DVD player and watch on a big screen TV, so I will be using that technology for some time to come. I also prefer not to upload anything as most everyone thinks everything is free to download (steal) other people's content. I've used an external burner for years because the super slim vertically installed drives in iMacs were less than reliable and any media could shift by 1/100th of an inch.
My current (new) external burner is from OWC:
    http://eshop.macsales.com/item/OWC/MR3F82SD24S/
(they have others, including bluray). Mine is quiet, sturdy, and offers several plugin possibilities.

After recently installing itunes on my new PC running windows 8, the CD/DVD drives no longer works, gives a code 19 message. Seems itunes is impacting the registry of the DVD drive. What is best solution to keep running itunes normally in the future & get the CD/DVD drive working again? if I delete the upper / lower registry keys what other functions are impacted? I see others say itunes asks for a reinstall...then same problem all over again! THX

  • I've just bought a new iMac with 2 TB hard drive. Can I partition the startup drive?

I've just bought a new iMac with 2 TB hard drive. Can I partition the startup drive?

    Glenfern wrote:
The reason I'm considering partitioning is - I'm going to transfer about 50 GB of family photos & music to the iMac. Over time the photos & music library is going to grow. My idea was to point the iphoto & itunes library to the new partition so that the application programs (that will will reside in partition 1), will not get congested with photos & music over time & degrade performance. Also, I dabble a little bit with the music editing program LOGIC & Sound Track Pro, which creates lots of little music files in the process.
In your case I would strongly recommend against partitioning, as dwb mentions a drive loaded with data on an
O SX system doesn't equate to  performance loss. However partitioning does. If you were going to tell me you were partitioning to load different OS's on the computer then you would have a good reason to think about partitioning. My suggestion is do not partition.
What I would also recommend is getting some high quality high speed external HD's to store your photo and music libraries on. This helps keept the 2GB drive available while maintaining performance. I have 3 external HD's attached to my iMac, two are backup drives (1 Time Machine & 1 Bootable Clone) the third drive is for storing my my music, photo & movie libraries on. If you go this route the 3 drives I'd recommend are:
    http://g-technology.com/products/g-drive.cfm
    http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/firewire/1394/USB/EliteAL/eSATA_FW800_FW400_USB
    http://www.lacie.com/us/products/product.htm?id=10330
Personally I use the Lacie's however OWC or G-Tech would also be welcome on my desk.
Again if you want to take this path Apple has instructions for how to move the libraries to EHDs, if you want those links let me know.

  • New V245 won't see the DVD drive

I have a new SunFire V245 that won't recognize the DVD drive.
    Running probe-scsi, probe-scsi-all and probe-ide don't display a DVD drive.
I know it is getting power because the light blinks when I power up the unit.
The part number for the DVD drive is X7410A-4 which shows it is for a V240.
Not sure if there is a compatibility issue or not.

Thanks a ton for the solution Dale! I appreciate it! The solution that worked was to in fact reset the SMC by disconneting the power, removing the battery, holding down the power button for 5 seconds and letting go then, putting everything back together again and powering back up. It then saw the drive and I was able to confirm that the Pink Panther can once again be seen in that drive! Thanks again because now I can use it in front of my treadmill again when I go for a run! lol!
No longer Frustrated_MacbookPro_User for the meantime... (I've had OS issues I've had to deal with before and so I'm never sure if I'm out of the woods yet, lol!).

  • I would like to transfer my iTunes and photos etc from my PC to my new iMac via a external hard drive. Would somebody recommend one. I read that the Western Digital Mybook Essential 3.0 is good.

I would like to transfer my iTunes and photos etc from my PC to my new iMac via a external hard drive. Would somebody recommend one. I read that the Western Digital Mybook Essential 3.0 is good. Though as Mac has 2.0 is this fast enough? I am a basic user, surfing only.

If you plan on using the WD with the Mac after the iTunes transfer I would strongly recommend against WD. WD external HD's tend to be the most troublesome with Macs. If you intend to use the drive for backup using Time Machine or creating a bootable clone then I'd recommend a higher quality drive than WD. The drives I'd recommend in that case would be:
    OWC Mercury Elite Pro series
    LaCie d2 Quadra series
    G-Tech G-DRIVE series
These are all high quality drives and enclosures with similar features. Personally I use the LaCie's however I would be happy to have OWC and G-Tech on my desk too. FWIW I've been using the LaCie's for 4 years and have 4 of them, all work perfectly and have never given me any trouble.

i bough a new imac, this haven't dvd burner, i bought a external dvd burner but the imac havent a idvd and i need this program, no other one, how to download this and install?

    Hi
how to download this and install?
There are no free DownLoads !
There are no legal DownLoads at all !
If there is no iDVD on Your Mac (and it's not on newer Macs as Apple discarded it) then You need a program that can do this.
Your Mac can burn CDs and DVDs - BUT DVD as Data-DVDs not as Video-DVDs - they need a program to be encoded and STRUCTURED as such.
    • iDVD is part of the boxed version of iLife'11 and can only be bought outside Apple as on Amazon and e-bay
    • DVD Studio pro - Part of FinalCut Studio Pro bundle - this to has expired and can only be bought second handed. (High price and tough learning Curve - but best ever done.)
    • Roxio Toast™ - Not as elegant as iDVD - but has many other positive additions (I like it as 10-Pro incl BD-component) (now version 11)
    • Burn - only free alternative I know of on internet. Very simple - Just for doing a plain Video-DVD
    Burn http://www.digital-digest.com/software/Burn.html
only You can buy from Apple is
    • FinalCut Pro-X which also can burn to DVD but without any nice themes.
    AppleMan1958
You can also buy Compressor from Apple for $50 US. It will also create DVD and BluRay but without the nice themes.
