New itunes (11.0.2) won't recognize my older ipod... help?
I have an old ipod (I bought it 2007, 80G size, I think) and it has always worked just fine, so no need to invest in a new one. This week I accidentally updated my itunes software. I had always avoided updating it for fear it would make my old ipod obsolete. Now, the new itunes won't recognize my older ipod. It does show up in my finder as a disk drive, but it is not recognized in itunes. I am assuming it has something to do with the old not being compatible with the new, but I have no idea how to remedy the problem. Is there a way to dump the new itunes and reload an older version that is compatible with older ipods? I find this kind of planned obsolesence really frustrating. There was nothing wrong with my ipod device before I regrettably updated the itunes software on my laptop (MacBookPro OS10.6.8) Any tips on how to get the ipod working with the laptop without buying a new ipod would be greatly appreciated!
well, I am surprised, but i follwed apple's ipod troubleshooting guide step by step and my problem was solved!
Restarted ipod, restarted computer and voila!

Hi, I'm having issues syncing my information from two separate computers to my new phone.
I backed up my old iPhone 3g on my iBookG4. The G4 does not support the iPhone 4s because it's too old and I cannot update to Lion or Leopard because it's too old.
I have a Dell that I bought in 2009 (i know i know, it was cheap and i had to get it for a class i was taking) - anywho, I have downloaded the new version of iTunes for the iPhone 4s and this version of iTunes won't recognize the 3g - I'm guessing because it is so outdated.
So, I can't get the old computer to read the new phone or the new computer to read the old phone.
What I attempted was home sharing with iTunes and that got all my music and apps, but contacts and calendars I can't move.
Any suggestions??

ps this mac is so old that the letter a just popped off the keyboardSyncing of devices running iOS4 and higher requires iTunes 9.x and higher.
iOS 4.3 and higher requires iTunes 10.x or higher.
Regardless, iTunes 9.x and 10.x require Windows XP Service Pack 3.

It has been shown there are problems with the latest update of iTunes and Windows computers. What you need to do is remove and reinstall iTunes, and make sure that you follow the steps in this support document exactly. http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1923. If you do not follow them exactly, you will just compound your problems. Once you do this, you should have no trouble having the phone recognized in iTunes.

Make sure you're running the most current version of itunes. Update if you have not done so, then:

You won't be able to do anything until itunes recognizes your phone. Once that is done, restore the phone as a "new" device in itunes. This should remove the software used to jailbreak the phone. -

Have an older 17 MacBook Pro, running OS 10.5.8. Software update says everyting is current. Mac doesn't have iCloud, preferences still shows MobileMe. Just bought new iPhone 5S. Your MacBook Pro can be updated to run Mac OS X "Snow Leopard". Buy it. That will enable you to run the latest iTunes version.

When trying to burn a playlist to a blank CD, iTunes 10.3.1 won't recognize the blank CD I've inserted (Verbatim CD-R). I've burned using these CDs before, this is a recent problem. Not the burner, as I can burn using Toast. iMac with Snow Leopard 10.6.8
What kind of CD are you burning (Audio or MP3)?
If you're burning an MP3 CD, the songs must already
be in mp3 format.
If not, iTunes will tell you that you have no songs
in the playlist.

I was making an audio cd. But I have since found out what the problem was. The files in my PLAYLIST I converted to aiff, since they were SDll files (I thought they were similar to AIFF, and they PLAY on Itunes...just won't burn.) When I selected the songs in the playlist and converted them...I thought all those files were converted, They were not. The converted files went into my LIBRARY, even tho I selected the ones in the playlist...and once I exchanged the SDll versions of the songs in my playlist. THEN they burned fine...but still...it's confusing..you say convert..it says it's been converted..and what they don't say is it's not been converted inside the playlist...where I had selected the songs...It just ADDED aiff versions..but only in the library...Anyway, that's what happened. But it's strange that it PLAYS SDll but won't burn them....and you'd think, logically..the ones you selected would change...but they don't. Playlists are mainly pointers to the actual files I guess...a sort of Alias..
At least it works now. But it's sad that the latest itunes does more, but also does LESS...as I used to be able to burn SDll files. Now I'll have to convert all my files to AIFF, and mp3's as I assume my ipod video won't play anything but mp3's? -

You might be running an earlier version of iTunes.

My phone is doing the same thing. My computer acknowledges that I have connected my iPhone 4, however, iTunes will no longer connect or sync to my iPhone 4. I have uninstalled iTunes, Bonjour and all Apple products from my pc. I have re-installed them back on. I have reset my phone. I have emptied my temp folder. I have done everything. If my iPhone cannot update and sync with iTunes then I may as well get another phone from somewhere else. I am disappointed that I cannot resolve this issue.

Does this mean that the iPod works fine but when you connect the iPod to your computer iTunes does not see - your iPod?
- Have you tried:
iPhone, iPad, iPod touch: Device not recognized in iTunes for Mac OS X
- If you really have OSX 10.6.x (not 10.5.8 as stated) try:
Mac OS X v10.6 or later: iOS device not recognized in iTunes after restart
- Have you tried another cable and USB port?
- If the iPod is not working then there are other things to try.
