i few days ago my ipod ran out of battery so i plugged it into the wall charger. the apple logo came up for a long time and when it went away all my songs were gone! so i plugged it into my labtop and itunes told me to update so i installed the new itunes and new updater. but now itunes won't recognize my ipod mini. and on my ipod in the about section, it says 0 songs, capactiy: 3.7 GB, space left: 1.7 GB. how could taht happen? i don't even have any songs and i only have 1.7 GB left? Please help me!

olemadrid, I'd suggest you start a new topic with your issue (use the "Post a new topic" link at the top of each main topic page). It's generally better to ask a question as a new topic rather than as a reply in someone else's thread, It's more courteous to the original poster, and is more likely to get your question the attention it deserves.
    Good luck.

  • Updater stuck on "initializing", iTunes wont recognize Ipod anymore

    Hi,
Just got a new Ipod over a week ago, uploaded all my songs and everything seemed to be fine...until today - i've recharged it on my laptop and tried turning it on but it didn't work - went on the support site and finally restored the iPod to Factory Settings. When I connected my iPod again to the Laptop, iTunes didn't recognize my iPod. So I've downloaded the latest iTunes and tried updating the software.
Now, when i try to update with the iPod Updater 2006-03-23, it gets stuck on "initializing" and iTunes won't recognize my iPod either.
When I click on My Computer, it comes up as "Removable Disk E" and in Device Manager, it comes up under Disk Drives "Apple iPod USB Device"
When i switch on my iPod, it seems to be working fine...but i just cannot download any music on it coz my iTunes won't recognize it...
    Please help!!!!
I use Windows XP, Dell Inspiron 630m and iPod 30GB
    Thanks,
    Cornelia
    Dell Inspiron 630m   Windows XP

    thanks, i'd appreciate that...
i went to the ipod store today and have been told that my ipod is fine but my software causes the issues. I'm supposed to delete everything and restore again. Trying to do that now but it's still not working yet. I had Tunebite installed to convert wma to mp3s as well, that might have caused all the trouble. there might probably still some hidden files i didnt get rid of because when i reinstall iTunes, my iPod is still not recognized... i keep u posted as well...

I already tried everything there is (uninstalling itunes etc). The PC recognizes the ipod thought. And i tried it on anothter PC and the ipod is instantly recognized. So i guess it is a PC problem!!

    Hey iFloatHigh,
I found two articles that can help you out. The troubleshooting you'll do depends on the type of computer you're trying to sync the iPod to. The first is for Windows, the second for Mac:

what do you do when itunes wont recognize your ipod touch?

    See
iOS: Device not recognized in iTunes for Windows
    - I would start with
Removing and Reinstalling iTunes, QuickTime, and other software components for Windows XP
    or
Removing and reinstalling iTunes and other software components for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8
However, after your remove the Apple software components also remove the iCloud Control Panel via Windows Programs and Features app in the Window Control Panel. Then reinstall all the Apple software components
    - Then do the other actions of:

  • IPod Classic 80gb - "iTunes cannot recognize iPod at this time"

    Hi,
Having trauled the Internet this evening, it appears i'm not the only person having this problem. This afternoon I updated my iPod and downloaded the latest software update. Since then, my iPod has not worked, it wont switch on, it wont reset and when I connect it to my laptop, iTunes displays the "iTunes cannot recognize iPod at this time". Does anyone have any suggestions?
I have tried downloading version 1.03 and putting that in the Apple software updates folder, as suggested in another thread on here but that does not work. I have tried to reset it whilst plugged into my in car charger, this doesnt seem to work either. As this seems to be a common fault, there must be a way of sorting it?
    Cheers!
    Sean

My 80Gb iPod Classic died a few days ago, shortly after installing the latest iTunes update, syncing it and then plugging into my integrated iPod kit in the car. I could not get the iPod to switch on after this and it would not appear in Windows explorer or iTunes (although I did get the rather unhelpful "iTunes cannot recognize iPod at this time" message). I tried various suggestions from the web but to no avail.
I've managed to resolve the problem by uninstalling version 7.6.1.9 and all associated apps (iTunes, Safari, Quicktime and anything called Apple xxx in Add/Remove Programs). Then I downloaded and installed the previous version of iTunes 7.6.0.29 (you can get this from http://filehippo.com/download_itunes/3694/) and this seemed to sort the problem.
Needless to say, I won't be updating my iTunes version for some time!
