New Mac Mini HDMI version...

does anyone know what version of HDMI the new mac mini is running? i can't find it anywhere. surely they're running v1.3 at least right?

HDMI v1.4 has been out for almost à year. Since the mini has an Nvidia chip with 3D support. If the mini had 1.4 support and connected to a 3D TV, you could use the mini as à 3D playback device. Maybe next revision fixes this.

  • Can I use Dual Displays with New Mac Mini (HDMI   Thunderbolt)

    Hello Everyone,
This question may have been asked before... but I just purchased a beautiful new Mac mini and it has an HDMI port in the back and a Thunderbolt port.  I am using a new DELL 23" HDMI monitor that also accepts DVI.   I think I could run another monitor on the Mac Mini, but I don't know which is the best way to go... I purchased a mini-display port to DVI adapter because I heard thunderbolt could accept the mini-display cable.
    1.  Should I purchase the other identical Dell monitor and then run it on Thunderbolt 2 DVI and run it DVI
    2.  Or is there a HDMI splitter that splits the signal into two cables and go that way?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated  Thanks!

I just got the mini server and run a 24" LCD off the HDMI port and a 19" off the displayport (adapter to DVI) and it works a treat there's no need for any splitter.

  • Brand New Mac Mini HDMI Sync Issues

I just purchased (as in 3/29/13) a late 2012 2.5GHz 500GB hard drive 4GB RAM Intel Dual Core i5 Mac Mini MD387LL/A. It is connected to a 27" Samsung B350 S27B350H monitor via HDMI to HDMI.
I was excited to set it up. I was downloading the 10.8.3 update as I had read about the flickering problems. In the middle of the download the computer went to sleep. Upon waking the monitor flickered badly then went black. Like it was not receiving a signal.
I powered the monitor down, and turned it back on. It had a display for about two seconds then went black again. I tried this several times with the same result each time.
Finally the update to 10.8.3 was complete and....the problem persisted.
I decided to see if it was the cable or the monitor. I connected the monitor directly to my Xbox with a different HDMI cable and it worked perfectly. So I switched to the original HDMI cable I used with the Mac Mini, again it was perfect!
Upon reconnecting the monitor to the Mac Mini it was working again...for about an hour now the problem is back.
I am completely frustrated and disappointed.
    Suggestions?
Or do I just return the Mac Mini for a different one?

Were you able to get your display working? I have an LG 27" at home connected to a Mid 2012 (June) MacBook Air 13" that has absolutely no issues. However, I just obtained the same Samsung monitor you have and appear to be having the same issue.
The only solution that I have found is to unplug the power from the back of the monitor or at the power supply each time my computer either wakes from sleep, screensaver, or a display that is powered off. This seems to be true via the following connections:
    1. HDMI to DVI thunderbolt adapter
    2. HDMI to Thunderbolt adapter
The display powers on with a slight flicker and then will immediately stop displaying the image on screen. What's especially strange here is the MacBook Air still believes the display is connected -- my login screen or active apps that are displayed on the external monitor do not move to the MacBook Air display as if it's no longer connected.
I hope someone has a solution to this issue! Thanks!

  • Mac Mini HDMI - Stuck CD

    Hello,
I have a CD stuck in my new Mac Mini HDMI.
    * It does not appear in the Finder as a CD.
    * Disk Utility shows the CD drive itself, but all options for eject, format, etc are all greyed out.
    * Booting with the mouse button down does not work (I have a bluetooth keyboard; however, I selected to stop using it and connected a wired keyboard)
    * Booting with C down does not work
    * Booting with Option down until getting to the firmware boot disk selection menu, then pressing / holding the eject button does not work
    * I used the Terminal command "drutil eject", the drive makes the eject noise, but nothing comes out
    * Tried System/Library/CoreServices/Menu Extras/ double clicking Eject.menu - the menu only has a greyed out drive listed
I think that's everything I've tried. Please let me know if there's anything else I can try.
    Thanks for all your help!

    I figured out the 'problem'
Let me pre-face it by saying, my wife originally emailed me at work talking about this disc she couldn't get out.
Flash forward to now. I was fishing around with my work badge (thin hard plastic) and I couldn't feel anything that felt like the edge of a disc. So, after getting up the nerve I took a blank DVD, and slowly let the drive catch it and pull it in. Loaded up just fine.
I guess the "Stuck CD" must have evaporated
Good new is, I now know every single way to get the disc out should this happen to me for real (short of completely disassembling the Mac Mini). For now, all I can do is laugh (quietly so my wife doesn't hear).
    Thanks for helping out Boece!

  • New Mac Mini today, no picture with HDMI

    Good evening,
I just picked up a brand new Mac Mini late 2012 model to use as a HTPC through my AV system in the livingroom.
I connected a HDMI lead to my Mac, changed to the correct source & switched it on. I can hear the start up chime through my speakers but my TV remains blank, just black. I tired in another HDMI port but the result was the same.
I don't have a PC, so have no monitor & I was going to get a loan of a mouse & keyboard to set up before I get an app so I can use my iPhone as a mouse/keyboard.
Does the very first set up have to be done through a monitor? How can I get the picture on my TV? (Pioneer PDP 5080 LXD)
    Currently sitting with a £500 brick :(

The following may be painfully redundant to you, yet I hope it helps you solve this HDMI issue.
WIth the Mac mini and TV powered off, disconnect the Mac mini HDMI cable.
Power on the TV and do the following settings:
    Select the desired HDMI port.
Home menu > Option > HDMI Input > Video > Auto.
                                    > HDMI Input > Audio > Auto.
Power off the TV. Reconnect the Mac Mini HDMI cable and ensure a good connection. Power on the Mac mini and let it boot up, before turning on the TV. Now, switch the TV to the appropriate HDMI port. You may have to twiddle with your mini display settings in system preferences, and possibly cycle power to the TV.
I believe HDMI ports input4 and input5 accept HDMI video and audio in from a computer, while ports input6 and input7 are strictly HDMI video in. This Pioneer model supports HDMI v1.3. You might reconfirm that your HDMI cable supports this version of HDMI or higher.

  • VGA to DVI to hdmi?  For the new Mac Mini.

I'm dying to buy a new Mac Mini but I'm not ready to replace my monitor yet.  Sadly, it's a VGA flat panel.  It's connected to my current 2009 Mini by a VGA to DVI adapter.  The new Mini comes with a DVI to HDMI adapter.
Can I plug my VGA to DVI adapter into the DVI to HDMI adapter and get video for my monitor?  My monitor has no speakers, so audio is irrelevant.  I just need video.

Unfortunately, my monitor is a VGA only flatpanel.  I had to buy a $30 Thunderbolt to VGA adapter to be able to use it with my new Mini.  Ah well, problem solved.  I'll make sure my next monitor has either DVI or HDMI.
One thing I think Apple should seriously consider doing is STOPPING their practice of including an adapter in the box and, instead, giving a free adapter with purchase.  That way, they won't be wasting resources (this is the second time I've bought a Mac with an adapter I don't need, and I guarantee there are people who will already have a compatile monitor and won't need the adapter either) and instead will better serve their customers by sending them home with a new Mac that works with the monitor they have.
The Mini is all about bring your own peripherals, right?  Well, there are a lot of VGA monitors out there.

  • HDMI to TV as Display for New Mac Mini DOESN'T WORK

I bought a new Mac Mini and was told I could us HDMI to my TV as display.   I was using this TV as display for older Mac Mini (VGA) and for a Windows PC, and DVD via HDMI.     TV is one year old.
The Genius at the store who sold me the new mini said all I needed was an HDMI cable.   Which I purchased.
The screen comes up for the Setup Assistant but as soon I select continue is goes to gray, mixed color scanning garbage mode.    If I turn the TV off and back on, the screen returns (now at the next prompt in the setup assistant) but again it goes gray after hitting continue.    Unusable, CANNOT set up my new purchase.
Unfortunately, the DVI to VGA adapter on my old mini is different and doesn't mate to the HDMI to DVI adapter that ships with new MacMini, so I can't test VGA.   The old DVI to VGA has extra pins not on the new one.
My purchase is not usable and is extremely poor.   Buyer beware I guess.

I have been using MacMini's for commercial digital signage/video conferencing gateway usage for sometime now, they all have HDMI output, about one third are on Lion the others still on Snow Leopard, here's what I have found.
Toshiba & LG tv's are generally reliable, Samsung and Philips generally are not, Panasonic, Sony, Sharp & Viewsonic all work, somtimes with a bit of work from me.
Cables are important (always look for compatibility with HDMI  revision 1.3 or greater (1.4 preferred), don't waste your money on exotic brands, adhere to the distance limitations, I generally send the HDMI signal wirelessly (cost of labor to add wiring to an existing space can be very high) so am limited to less than 50ft, same as with a wire.
READ THE TV MANUAL, find out what HDMI choices your tv possesses, is there a 'parallel' audio input available for the times when your signal origin is a MDP or DVI.
Some TV's just don't work well, cut your losses and get another when faced with this issue.

Could be a bad cable or bad Thunderbolt port.

  • Hi folks, I have my new mac mini connected to my telly (HDMI) and want to set it up. It didn't start the set up assistant

Hi folks, I've got a new mac mini and want to start using it. I put it on my HDMI telly and connected it to magic trackpad and wireless keybord, both are working fine. I can see the mac dashboard but I cannot click anything! The pointer moves where I want it to but nothing reacts and the setup assistant didn't start either.
Any idea what I can do?

Just purchased a new mac mini 3GHz Intel Core i7, with 16GB ram version 10.10.1. With it i purchased a new wireless keyboard. All of a sudden I was not able to use the #1 key. I thought I had a defected newly purchased keyboard. I pulled out my older wireless keyboard, and the same thing happened. It must not be the keyboard if it happened to two different keyboards. I have a habit of restarting my computer, when things don't work, I find it helps, and sure enough, everything works. Today, it happened again. Does anyone know what is causing this to happen?

  • New Mac Mini 2012 - HDMI dolby surround

    Hi,
I returned my Mac Mini 2011 because of the poor (lack of) dolby surround support outside of Apple iTunes.
I am very interested to know if somebody can confirm the new Mac Mini 2012 has better dolby surround support. I would like to connect the Mac Mini to my dolby surround receiver with plug and play support in Mac OS X Mountain Lion. And of course compatibility with media software (e.g. VLC or other players).
    Thanks for your comments!

The Mini will pass through Dolby and DTS encoded tracks to
any device which can decode it with XBMC, PLEX, VLC,
    MplayerX, etc.
The signals can be passed through via HDMI or optically.
The proper set up is required in the Audio Midi Setup utility
and in the app.  If you are expecting decoding within the
Mini to multichannel PCM, I don not believe any apps are available
to do that (or I am just not aware of them).
If your are expecting the higher level encodings (DTS-MA or Dolby
True HD), at least up to the 2011 models, they do not contain the
required "protected audio path" to support those formats.
