New MacBook Air arrived with low battery; is this a problem?

Hi,
I ordered a new MacBook Air 11.6 (2014) model from Staples and when it arrived, the battery had only about 1.5 hours left on it.  I understood that the MacBook Air shipped with a fully charged battery; this is also noted in Apple's 'welcome' guide with the computer.
Should I be concerned about future battery life with this computer?  If this is not normal I still have time to return/replace it.
Thanks for your input/assistance.

MacBooks leave the factory charged to about 50% but the battery will slowly discharge even if it is off. Staple's probably doesn't have a really fast product turnover when it comes to Apple notebooks so it wouldn't surprise me if its been on the shelf for a while. As Oglethorpe said, charge it up, use it on battery after you've charged it and repeat several more times. If you are still worried about battery life contact AppleCare.

  • HT4889 my new macbook air arrived with the agreements for iCloud and game centre in Thai which I cannot read.

The Thais I have asked cannot be sure they are translating correctly so, I should not agree to the terms and conditions, of course I want to get working so I clicked the agree button.
Does anyone in the community know of a condition I might not wish to agree to?
Is there any way of getting Apple Thailand to email me?

uncheck "put hard disks to sleep" in Sys. preferences under POWER on both the "power" and "battery" tabs.
    Re-verify.
complete failure to wake from sleep is very rare actually.    Having experimented with same on 2 diff. MacAir, one my own, I cannot recreate such an occurrence under 10.9.
Avail yourself of the warranty service you paid for if still the same. Such an occurrence should NOT happen, and most all on Mavericks know of no such occurrence nor are having same.

About the only thing you can try is using the Online Internet Recovery system to reinstall Lion on your Mac over the top of the current install. that will reset all system files and should not touch your personal files or the apps you have installed.
Or iof you have a recent Time Machine backup use that to restore your Mac to that point in time.

I received an email containing a spreadsheet created using Mac Office 2004 on my new MacBook Air equipped with Mac Office 2011.  When I saved the document, my Finder lists the document without the .xls file extension. Why?
All other .xls documents created by Mac Office 2004 retained the .xls file extention when I migrated them over to the new MacBook Air.

I know what happened.  When I saved the document I somehow hit the Hide File Extension box.  Sorry to trouble this group. I simply resaved it w/o activating the Hide File Extension feature.

  • Does all new macbook air come with OS X Mountain Lion?

does all new macbook air come with OS X Mountain Lion? if so, where can i find it? cause if i'm right, i remember saw a mountain lion logo on someones desktop. also, if i have it on my mac, why do I find it in the apple store saying that I need to purchase it for $19.99?

All new MacBooks Air come with OS X Mountain Lion, as it's the only supported version in Mid 2013 MacBooks Air. Mid 2012 MacBooks Air come with Lion or Mountain Lion, depending on when they were manufactured.

The Mid 2013 MacBook Air uses a special OS X Mountain Lion version which is different than the version available at the Mac App Store. That's the reason why you see the price at the Mac App Store, but you already have Mountain Lion. If you try to purchase Mountain Lion, the App Store will tell you that it's not compatible with your MacBook Air. To reinstall Mac OS X, you have to use OS X Recovery > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4718

  • Does my new macbook air come with ilife (SandyBridge i7)?

Just bought a new mac and was wondering if my new macbook air come with ilife (SandyBridge i7)?
No CD's in the box... Do I just download it from the Appstore?
I thought it would at least come with the Air I just bought...
    Thanks in advance...

According to Apple, your new MBA should include iLife: iPhoto, iMovie, and GarageBand. The user guide says they should be on the system.  Systems that come with Lion no longer include OS X DVD's.

  • Will Macbook Air(2012) with 256G storage flash have storage problem

Will Macbook Air (2012) with 256G storage flash have storage problem described in "MacBook Air Flash Storage Drive Replacement Program"?
In the web page http://www.apple.com/support/macbookair-flashdrive/, it says that Apple has determined that certain 64GB and 128GB flash storage drives used in the previous generation of MacBook Air systems may fail.  I wonder whether Macbook Air with 256GB flash storage may come into the same problem?

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
No. 256 GB flash storage does not have that problem. However, it's important that you make backups of your data to keep your files safe

  • My new Macbook Air came with old OS

I bought a new Macbook Air 13" (mid-2012) a few weeks back but it came with Lion installed instead of Mountain Lion. It seems that Apple has also closed their free update program page. Do you know if there is any way to get a free upgrade to Mountain Lion as it seems strange not to have it installed.

Yeah - just spend the $20 - much easier than wasting your time trying to figure out how to get the free upgrade.
I'm sure your time is worth more than the $20 you'll be spending.
I'll give you a little pointer - before you download and install Mountain Lion - invest $10 on a 8GB USB Stick.
Once you download Mountain Lion - it will try to install - cancel the install and create a USB Mountain Lion installer - that way, if you ever need to reinstall Mountain Lion in the future - you don't have to download it again.
Click on the link below on how to create one.

  • The NEW MACBOOK AIR ***** PLZ SOMEONE HELP ME GET THIS ACROSS TO SOMEONE AT APPLE

    Hi,
My Name is Essa and i live in Bahrain. I fell in love wih apple ever since i bought a macbook in 2005. The laptop (which im using now) has been with me for over 6 years. Not only i was happy with my product, i purchased more products, such as 3 iphones, all for me, a ipod nano the new one with the touch screen and the first edition of the iPad. I have never had a problem and everytime i would tell my friends if they needed a laptop to get a mac and be safe with it. I decided in august to get the new macbook air. The problem after a few months of using it, it started to act up. By act up i mean everytime i start it up the computer would freeze on the welcome screen and the arrow would be stuck in the top corner, and after several times of trying to start it up it just kept giving me that (PING) sound and would not load. I took it to the sale agent here in bahrain. They are called Apple Center. They were extremly nice, and worked on my laptop and they came back to me and said that there was an error with your logic board and it will take 4 weeks to fix it, as they had to recieve the parts form the states. I gladly gave them my laptop and waited for 4 weeks, keep in mind that i still used my old macbook in 2005 and it was stable as the day i bought it. After 4 weeks of waiting they said we have fixed the problem, and he showed me that the laptop was working fine. I closed the top keeping it on sleep mode. When i got home i realized that the same problem exisited that when the operating system loads up the cursor is stuck in the top left corner and mouse pad and keyboard were not working. After several times of shutting down the laptop and starting it up again i ended up with the same result. It kept giving me that (PING) sound and wouldnt load. I will be taking my laptop in on monday morning again and im assuming i will be waiting for another 4 weeks maybe more. Could you please explain to me what happened to Apple? What has made your company start producing laptop that were as crappy a windows based computers. The reason i switched over is because i found the stability is outstanding and nothing could go wrong. Plus the old laptop which im sending the messege from is my old macbook. It is still good, and doesnt crash. So why did i just spend over 1,500 dollars for a laptop that died after 3 months of purchase? I dont know how well apple takes care of their international customers, but to be honest i am fairly dissapointed with this product, and i wish that i didnt buy the new macbook air and just stuck with the old one. Please if anyone reads this msg and is able to help me in anyway to send it across i would greatly appreciate it. I will be posting my phone number at the bottom hopping for a call from apple.
For those who read this and help i owe you a lot, if I dont get any replies or a responce from them im sure that i am screaming into a black hole and that apple really do not care about their customers and instead of winning i would just choose a different product from now on.
    Regards,
    Essa Al Alawi
Hoping for someone to answer me back

Don't take your laptop back. Find out the number for Apple Care in your part of the world and call them. Tell your story to them. If the person on the phone can't help you, ask for their supervisor. Keep asking for supervisors until you get exactly what you want to get. If that mean you want to get the problem fixed without having the computer gone for four weeks, then keep asking for supervisors till you get someone who can do that for you.
Be prepared to be on the phone for a while, so arrange a speaker phone, water to hand etc. Be patient.
As for "crappy computers"--my MBA has worked flawlessly since the day I got it. As good if not better than any Apple laptop I've ever had, and I've had several. This is the thing though, there is a percentage of failure rate that occurs in electronics. It occurs whether we're talking about televison sets or toasters. If it's electric, it has that failure rate. Now sometimes a thing will be bad and in that case the word gets out and everyone knows that particular electronic has surpassed the normal failure percentage. The Airs, however, have not done that. Their reputation, so far, has been incredibly solid and good. So you can assume that you, unfortunately, got one out of that small percentage of electronics that have an issue.
Laptops, let us remember, are doing a lot in a very small area. A lot can go wrong, and it's pretty amazing how many don't, especially given how many are made and sold. Sometimes we get the bad apple in the barrel, it doesn' t mean that the company making it has gone down hill. We hope the manager of the store, or the company, or someone will do right by us. If they don't, then we need to make sure they do. Keep asking for upper management till you get what you want.

  • Can the new MacBook Air 13" with the i3 processor run Adobe Connect?

I need a new computer for college this fall. I really am leaning towards the MacBook Air, 13" model with the i3 Processor and an upgrade to 8 GB ram. Will this (w/ a 1.3GHz Processor) run Adobe Connect? It says it requires 1.83GHz for Mac. So is it not fast enough? Should I just get the pro? :/
Here is the site on Adobe...
    http://www.adobe.com/products/adobeconnect/tech-specs.html
    Any help is appreciated. :)

I agree that the Retina display is only truly useful for photographers, etc; but as someone who owns a 13 inch Retina MBP and had a 13 inch MBA, I wouldn't necessarily clssify the non-Retina machines as "better".  The difference in display quality is quite noticeable, I like it, and I've never had a problem running non-optimized websites or apps on the machine and I'm fussy about displays. Maybe that's because I've left it running at default settings.
It really all depends on where you want to put your bucks.  In general, you can get slightly better performance for the same money with a non-Retina machine.
That said, if you're looking at benchmarks and using Geekbench, a 1.3 i5 2013 MBA comes out at 5940-5950; my 2012 2.5 i5 Retina benches out at 6777, so it's slightly faster but not remarkably so.  The 2013 1.7 i7 MBA will match up with it and even exceed it a bit, at least until the Retinas are upgraded with Haswell later.  I suspect they'll be faster, though it depends on what chips Apple uses and how much battery life they want to trade off for it.  Also, you are using some graphics power with the Retina just to process the display, and the newer Intel graphics GPU's are generally stronger than the 4000 series in the current Retina, so that's a littl bit of the trade off you'd make.
The newer models have a faster disk access system and 8011.ac wireless though the latter is problematic at the moment and it will take some time for Apple to fix that.  You'll also not be able to take too much advantage of the faster wirelss speeds immediately unless you buy a new (8011.ac) router; it will take a few years before the rest of the world catches up to the new standard.  The 13 Retina MBP has an extra Thunderbolt port..which I routinely use..and an HDMI slot not present on the MBA.
Just do your homework, consider all your needs, and get what serves you best.

  • What OS would a new Macbook Air come with if I buy one now?

    Hi there,
I am thinking of buying an MBA. Some preliminary research suggests negative reviews about the latest OS Yosemite. Regardless of whether such reviews are accurate or not, I wonder what OS will a new MBA come with, if I buy one now (or over the next few weeks)?
    Thanks.

You can try, but probably not. Note that, since no new model of MacBook Air has come out since the release of Yosemite, even if it ships with Yosemite, it should be capable of running Mavericks. Mavericks is no longer available in the App Store, but you can contact the App Store support http://www.apple.com/support/mac/app-store/contact/ and ask for a download code. If you've previously downloaded it on another Mac, it should be in the purchases section in the App Store.

  • Deleted emails keep returning to my inbox on my new macbook air! How can I stop this?

I recently upgraded from a Macbook to a Macbook Air and now some emails that I delete return to my inbox almost immediately. I've never experienced this issue before and it's kind of frustrating. How can I fix this?

Problems such as yours are sometimes caused by files that should belong to you but are locked or have wrong permissions. This procedure will check for such files. It makes no changes and therefore is not, in itself, a solution.
First, empty the Trash, if possible.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it, then copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C:
    find ~ $TMPDIR.. \( -flags +sappnd,schg,uappnd,uchg -o ! -user $UID -o ! -perm -600 \) 2>&- | wc -l | pbcopy
Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window by pressing command-V. The command may take a noticeable amount of time to run.
Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign ($) to appear.
The output of the command will be a number. It's automatically copied to the Clipboard. Please paste it into a reply.
The Terminal window doesn't show the output. Please don't copy anything from there.

  • Macbook - Shuts down with low battery and doesn't go to sleep

I have a Black MacBook 2.16 core duo and have been dealing with this same issue for about 6 months.
At first, the MB (macbook) worked perfectly. battery would get to 5% or so, warn me then go to sleep, then write a safe sleep image, then shutdown. I would turn it back on and it would restore the image to where I left off.
After about 2 months this stopped working properly. When running solely off the battery, the MB would get to about 20% and just shutdown. ppbbbbllltt!
I've spent endless hours on the phone with people in the Phillipines and sitting at Genius Bars. I've gone through all the things mentioned in Apple's support thread: calibrated the battery, reset PRAM, reset SMC / PMU, updated the battery uupdater to 1.1 then 1.2 (I think that 1.3 is only for MB Pros)
I'm on my THIRD BATTERY..it's happening again...at least with the first 2 it worked for a couple of months. With this battery, it bombed out on the first cycle that I went through.
Is this the logic board or the motherboard or something else??
Any other ideas on what to try?
Is this a hardware issue (IE motherboard, logic board...) ?
Is this a software issue (IE - OSX) ?
Is it a firware issue (IE - battery firware) ?
    I'm at a loss....

If it's your third battery you need to have Apple look at the computer itself. As you know now switching batteries is not fixing it. I would guess it is in the power control circuit which is on the motherboard. You need to call and get it checked out.
