New power adapter for old macbook - It doesn't work!

Hello!
My MacBook is 3 years old. My power adapter got broken at the end where you put it into the socket.
Now I bought a new power adapter. The adapters have changed now. The end where you put it into the computer looks now a little bit different. But they told me in the Apple Store that it will also fit my 3 years old Macbook.
At home it really fit my Macbook but it didn't charge. Nothing happened, no light. How can that be? Then I combined the two, the end for the socket of the new power adapter and the other part where you put it into the computer of my old power adapter. Now it charges. So is the problem after all the part where you put it into the computer of the new power adapter that looks different now?
Or what can I try now?
Thank you for help!
Sorry for my bad English.

You may need to download and install the SMC firmware update:

  • Is light faulty on new 60w power adapter for my Macbook?

Had to order a new 60w power adapter for my Macbook a couple of weeks ago -- bought it from the Apple Store (the new design adapter). When it's plugged in it turns green, then immediately turns red to recharge -- all normal. Once fully recharged the adapter light turns/stays green. But after awhile the adapter light goes out altogether. The icon shows it's charging, but the red (and green) light is off. If I remove the adapter and plug it back in the lights will come on again.
    Is this normal?
    Thanks.

I think I'm experiencing the same problem. My computer charges but the light goes back and forth from being on or off, orange or green. I'm a little disappointed that the light could be burned out, but I guess a little light like that can't last forever. Oh well.
Is it worth pursuing a replacement from Apple since I still have AppleCare? Just wondered.
Anyway, this is really helpful information. Thanks for sharing.

  • Need new power adapter for Qosmio F50

    Hello
I am in need of buying new power adapter for my Qosmio F50 126. The reason being if I try to run more demanding application on my computer, the entire computer just crashes, shuts down. I need to buy a new adapter before my entire computers crashes result in destroying my HDD. I am not sure if my battery are died or the power adapter fails to charge them up.
The picture of underside of my power adapter is shown below.

What I would like to know if the following two adapters are the same and would work with my model. I ask this because the price difference between the two units is significant., 20 USD. Also, I will be importing it from the USA using an agent here. Therefore I need to get it right on the first try.
I'm curious about the connecter it has on the end. I wonder if its same as the one which came with the notebook. I believe it wont be an issue with it clearly says it supports my model, Qosmio F50 126
Another find which I believe is the best and most compatiable.
This one will sure work but the price is much higher than the one mentioned above

    Hi
You need an AC adaptor which supports *19V and 6.32A*
The Ampere value might be a little bit different. This should not be a big problem but you have to ensure the Ampere value isnt too low. The notebook needs enough power to run properly and to charge the battery.
However, the Volt value (19V) cannot be different. _It has to be *19V_*
The original AC adaptor has the part number: *PA3290E-3AC3*
I recommend you to purchase the AC adaptor recommended by Toshiba.

  • TS2565 when updated to 9.1.7 from 9. I need new serial and the old serial number doesn't work. How can i solve this?

when updated to 9.1.7 from 9. I need new serial and the old serial number doesn't work. How can i solve this?

There was no new serial needed to update from Logic 9 to 9.1.7
If your Logic 9 was an upgrade from Logic 8 it may be asking you for your original Logic 8 Full serial first and then your Logic 9 Upgrade serial...
Otherwise, it's best to call Apple directly and get them to help you...

  • Could I have got a new power adapter for free?

My power adapter for my mac stopped working recently and as far as I know I didn't cause any damage to it myself.
I read the following on the apple website:
    Additional Information
Whether your product is in or out of warranty, you can take your adapter to an Apple Authorized Service Provider or Apple Retail Store for evaluation and replacement if necessary. Pending the results of evaluation, you may or may not be eligible for a replacement adapter free of charge. Signs of accidental damage would negate any coverage. Be sure to bring in the computer used with the adapter; it is required to process potential adapter replacements.
Which seems to suggest that even out of warrenty, if the charger has broken of it's own accord you can still get a free replacement?
I took my adapter and mac to the shop, they said there were no signs of accidental damage but said I still have to pay for it. I referred to this statement from the website but they were very dismissive and kept saying it was out of warrenty. Perhaps i'm reading the statement wrongly.
Just wondered if anyone could clarify :-)

As you indicated, it depends on the results of the evaluation.
Apple takes responsibility when design faults cause certain failures, especially when it represents a safety concern. There have been a small number of cases where failure met certain characteristics that Apple deemed that it should not have happened, regardless of age or use.
I am reluctant to indicated the specificity of some of these issues, because for many reasons Apple would not want us speculating on the subject. Suffice it to say your product failure may not have met any particular characteristics associated with failures deemed to have extended coverage.
If your product failed for an unknown reason, or apparently a failure stemming from age or normal life expectancy use, and it was after the normal expiry of warranty, then no further consideration was given. You need to buy and pay for a new one, unless you yourself, can provide extenuating circumstances to consider.

  • Replacement power adapter for 2008 MacBook Pro

Does anybody know if you can get a replacement power adaptor for the 2008 MacBook Pro. Mine crapped out and I'm freaking because the one they have for sale does not look like it will work, help PLEASE!!!!

If I think I know what your saying, it sounds like the store only had the Magsafe 2 connectors for the new model Macbook Pro's. The good news is yes stores still sell both Magsafe 1 and Magsafe 2 adapters. My advice would be to just take your adapter into the store and show the sales person what you need.

  • Power Adapter for 17" MacBook Pro 2.8GHz (Mid 2009)

I'm curious to know if i can use a power adapter from an older 17" MacBook Pro 2.4GHz (Mid/Late 2007) with a brand new 17" MacBook Pro 2.8GHz (Mid 2009). Both are 85w i believe - but i wasn't sure about the new battery with this new computer.
    Thanks

i would like to say, power adapters are of no tricks. They just provide voltage, current, and also the quality of them. When i say quality, it means how stable they can provide. All good functioning power adaptors should have an acceptable quality. So this is not a concern.
Then, what is going on with the "power"? No matter how many watts, there are _*no differences*_. What you have to consider is: unless it cant boot up your system, or it is not capable to charge while you are working (lower watt will just charge slower), or it has some serious problems when you are doing some high energy consuming tasks (like playing 3D games, video converting). Otherwise, the power adaptor is said to be providing enough power, and nothing to be worried about =]

  • Purchasing A New Hard Drive For Old Macbook

    Hey everyone!
I'm new here. I found an old Macbook of mine—a black Macbook about 12 3/4" across. I got it a while ago, and the hard drive stopped working so I just bought a new computer. But now I would like to have two computers, and I would like to use this old Macbook again. I realize that this old Macbook still works; it just needs a new hard drive. So I was wondering if someone could point me in the right direction of a nice hard drive that I can slide into this black Macbook of mine. I looked online, and I'm afraid to purchase one without the help of someone; I don't know if the size of the drive will fit into this old Macbook or what. So if anyone can help me out, that would be so great! Thanks guys!

Here are step by step instructions with pictures on replacing the hard drive in a MacBook with a removable battery. http://creativemac.digitalmedianet.com/articles/viewarticle.jsp?id=45088

  • The USB ethernet adapter for the macbook air is not working. Cable unplugged. How can I fix this for the recent patch 10.7.2?

I have recently purchased an ethernet usb adapter for the MBA and after a month it is not working. Says cable unplugged.
Now I have tried it with 2 other connections on other computers that are working and still no response. Many reviews or fixes online mention something with a 10.5.5 patch that seems quite outdated and do not work. Anyone figure out how to fix this or do I have a broken adapter?

I've used Apple's adaptor on a mini MBA without a problem.

  • What is the recommeded automobile power adapter for a macbook air?

    subject says it all.

    Hi Ross,
As there's no official "Apple branded" model, you're looking at 3rd party solutions.
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/TW696LL/A
Kensington makes one that's pretty good, I've used it. I will add, that all the reviews that complain about the fan noise are spot on. It's pretty noisy but it's certainly not something that a little radio/XM/CD can't handle.

  • New Power Adapter Doesn't fit right

The power adapter for my iBook G3 started only working when it really felt like it, so I check the discussion boards about buying a new one. I saw the link about Shentech.com, which indicated their power cord was the same as the one bought from the Apple Store, though it cost about half as much. I bought this one, but when it arrived (it was delivered VERY quickly), I was concerned because I have to force it into the computer. It charges the battery just fine, but I am concerned about ultimately doing damage to the computer. It is a model A 1036. Has anyone else had this issue? Since I didn't buy it directly from Apple, can I still ask Apple about it, as it is an Apple Product?

Hi, Katie. Welcome to Apple Discussions.
Yes, I have the exact same issue with the 65-watt adapter I bought from Shentech:
    http://store.shentech.com/apge24v265ws.html
I thought perhaps it was because I bought the 65-watt instead of the 45-watt that originally came with the iBook. I always keep an extra on hand, and that super-tight one has been relegated to "extra" status. I am always VERY careful any time I plug it in.
If you are very worried about it, maybe you should call Shentech and ask for a replacement. They may be refurbishing them. Even though it says "new" on their website, mine is a bit scuffed, and does not LOOK new.
A call to Apple about it may shut Shentech down if they are selling refurbished Apple products as new, but maybe that would be the right thing to do?
I'm afraid this isn't much help, but it does let you know that you're not alone.

  • Is this the right power adapter for an 11" MBA?

My wife has an 11" MBA with model number A1370. The battery is dead so I can't check the exact model identifier. The thin cable on the power adapter has worn out where it enters the brick (which is incredible since she never ever wraps the cable around the brick) so she needs a new adapter.
This Dutch Apple Store page has three that look similar to hers, which has the L-shaped magsafe. Am I right in believing that the 45W version will fit all A1370 models?
    Many TIA

  • Where to find Power Adapter for iBook - 65W Model A1021?

Does anyone know where I can find a new power adapter for an older iBook?
    Details:
    Apple 65W
    Portable Power Adapter
    Model No. A1021
Cord seems to be fine, just need the brick.
    Thank you!!
    Teresa

The '12 PowerBook G4 1.5 GHz now uses the same power adapter as your iBook G4 does. The '12 PowerBook G4s originally shipped with the 45 power adapter brick Model A1022 but they started catching fire so Apple immediately recalled them. Just tell who you talk you on Apple's Support hotline that you want the power adapter that the '12 PowerBook G4 or iBook G4 uses.
Their Tech Support phone number is 1-800-274-2273.

  • Dead power adapter for modem hg612.

I am trying to find out how to get a new power adapter for this modem. I have had it for 20 months and it suddenly died. I spoke to bt help in India but I couldnt get them to understand what I needed. It didnt seem to be on their pages that they go through. Anyway they said that an engineer would come out to look at it.  This was saturday morning past and the engineer wont be here til thursday.  I would have thought there was somebody I could contact to get an new psu posted out without expensive engineer visits.
I know its the psu thats failed because I replaced it temporarily with one from my photoalbum and it works fine.
many thanks for any help you can offer

The PSU and Modem belong to Openreach. They don't have a stores or delivery process to just send kit out. They'll want to replace the whole kit and there for an engineer visit is required.

All of the A1181 polycarbonate MacBooks use the A1184 60W MagSafe power supply/charger and the A1185 battery. These are the Apple part numbers. Other manufacturers make equivalent replacement products, but the quality may not be acceptable.
