New refurb MacBook 2.0Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo shutting down...help!

Refurbished MacBook 2.0Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo, White 1GB RAM, combo arrived yesterday. Running Jaguar. Ran fine out of the box on battery power for about 3 hours till the battery ran out when it shut itself down. Now its shutting off with the button gently pulsing, every few seconds. Won't stay up long enough to get at system prefs or anything else for that matter. One very disappointed 10 year old in our house. Any known issues or fixes? Thanks

Are you sure its running Jaguar? Maybe you meant leopard?
Have you charged the battery already? Try to connect the power adapter and see if that allows you to turn on the computer longer. If the same issue persists, reset the SMC following these steps:

I wonder if this laptop has enough power to support Lion. So far I upgraded the memory to its max of 2G.

That folder with a question mark means your computer can't find the hard drive. It's possible the drive is physically damaged, but it may also be an error in the system files that has the computer "lost."
Do you have your install discs handy? If so, pop in Install Disc 1 and hold the C key while booting the computer. Once the Installer loads, choose "disk Utility" from the Utilities menu. Does your Hard drive appear? If so, choose the Repair Disk option. If you see any messages saying something can't be repaired, post the messages here. Also check the S.M.A.R.T. status of the drive; this is in the lower right corner of the window.

Im still running 10.6.8 on an old MacBook 2.4 Intel Core 2 Duo. Questions about 10.7

Im still running 10.6.8 on an old MacBook 2.4 Intel Core 2 Duo. "Genius" said I couldn't upgrade to enough memory to use 10.7. Doing ok so far except my bank/credit cards no longer support Quicken. If I switch to 10.7.x, what will I LOSE? I don't do change well, and really hate surprises. I understand scrolling goes the opposite way, that Search works differently, and that I'll have to update some of my software, for example, and then THAT software will be different. For example, does anyone know if upgraded 10.7.x is as fully functioning in Quicken 2013 as old OS and old Quicken, for example? Will it communicate with my banks?? That, and general frustration with tired-computer issues would make the switch more appealing.

You can upgrade from 10.5 to 10.6 with no problems as long as you have at least 1gb of RAM. Any program that runs under 10.5 should run under10.6. And you will have to install Rosetta if you have any Power PC applications

I recently upgraded an older MacBook (Early 2006 model 1,1) straight from 10.4 to 10.6.
Once you are at 10.6.8 Lion is still available from Apple. You will have to call Apple Customer Care 1-800-692-7753 or 1-800-676-2775. to purchase it. Then within 3 days you will get an email with a code which you can use to download Lion from the App Store. The price is $19.99.
You must have at least a Late 2006 model 2,1 Core 2 Duo MacBook. (Which you have) Lion 10.7.5 is the maximum OS that the model 2,1 will support.
Lion will require at least 2gb of RAM but really needs 4gb to run smoothly. Or 3gb in your case. As for third party programs see this list for compatibility with 10.7 http://roaringapps.com/apps:table
Also Lion doesn't run any Power PC programs. To see if you have any Power PC programs go to the Apple in the upper left corner and select About This Mac, then click on More Info. When System Profiler comes up select Applications under Software. Then look under Kind to see if any of your applications are listed as Power PC. Universal and Intel will run under Lion.
Before Mac switched to Intel processors in 2006 they used Power PC processors from 1994 to 2005. Power PC 601 through 604, G3, G4 and G5. Applications written for the Power PC processors need the application called Rosetta to run on Intel processors. This was part of the Operating System in 10.4 and 10.5 but was an optional install in 10.6. With 10.7 Lion Apple dropped all support for Power PC applications.

My question is, does Apple repost more refurbished macbooks after they have been bought or am I out of luck in buying one?

I just bought on the 27th of November 2007 a Refurbished Black MacBook 2.16GHz Intel Core 2 Duo. I was just wondering if it is a Late 2007 MacBook, since it's a refurbished product, and if it has Santa Rosa.
Also, I've bought from ebay 4GB of ram for it (2X2GB). Will it be able to recognize all 4GB? the new (not refurbished) MacBooks available in the Apple store at the moment support up to 4GB.

Maverick and Macbook 3.1 Intel Core 2 Duo

Hi I am trying to download Maverick onto my Macbook 3.1 Intel Core 2 Duo presently using Snow Leopard. It says I can't download it but I'm not sure if it's because there isn't enough space in the memory or if it's just not compatible? I'm only looking to change it because my daughter is presently unable to update her ipod I assume because Snow Leopard is now out of date? Noise (fan and/or drive) MacBook 2.4 Intel Core 2 Duo 2GB 160GBHD

I recently acquired a MacBook 2.4 Intel Core 2 Duo 2GB 160GBHD.
It is always making noise, (quite obvious, fan noise).
It is annoying.
Compared to my iBook G4, this thing is rather noisy.
Quite honestly, I never hear anything from my iBook G4 unless it's required to perform multiple tasks over a period of time and only then the fans ramp up.
Is this normal?

This may be normal, but try this before making a final judgement:
1. Go to System Preferences/Energy Saver/Options and set it to Automatic.
2. Download SMC Fan Control for free:

And set to 3000 cycles.
That done, see if the sound shows any improvement.

I brought a MacBook 2.16GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, Mac OS10.4.10 cannot use the wirless via router. However, when I installed the Window xp in my macbook, I can connect with the wireless via the same router (the security mode has WEP, WPA Pre-shared key & WPA radius), . I reset the router in no Encryption, reset, let the macbook (in window xp) access the internet, and then change the router in WEP. Finally it can connect! But in OSX , it still doesn't work.
Please give me some advice. Thanks a lot!

Use WPA preshared key instead of WEP. WEP can be cracked within a few minutes. Plus with WPA you really just have to enter the passphrase from the router on the Mac. It is not so complicated compared to WEP.
With WEP you cannot use the passphrase from the router on the Mac. You have to enter the WEP key. Use the first WEP key. Also make sure that you have selected transfer key 1 if the router has this option.
On the Mac you have to enter the WEP key with an "$" sign in front. This tells the Mac that you enter a hexadecimal WEP key, e.g. $A1B2C3D4E5

Lion is the highest version your can install. You need to have 2 GBs of RAM and be running Snow Leopard 10.6.8.
Upgrading to Lion
If your computer does not meet the requirements to install Mavericks, it may still meet the requirements to install Lion.
You can purchase Lion at the Online Apple Store. The cost is $19.99 (as it was before) plus tax. It's a download. You will get an email containing a redemption code that you then use at the Mac App Store to download Lion. Save a copy of that installer to your Downloads folder because the installer deletes itself at the end of the installation.

I have a 13" MBP with the Core 2 Duo processor. I do have 8 GB of memory, needed because I need to run Windows in a virtual machine (Fusion) to access client web sites that require ActiveX controls. The Windows VM environment locks up 3 GB of the memory.
I did all the maintenance steps in disk utility on the harddrive before upgrade, double checked compatability with all applications and drivers and made sure that I had a drive clone in addition to my Time Capsule backup.
The only thing that didn't work on Lion was my RingCentral VOIP client, and that was expected from my research.
The upgrade went smooth and I really haven't noticed much speed difference.
