New verizon curve 8330 missing browser

Hi,
This may sound like s dumb question, so my apologies.  I just activated my new (well old, but new to me) Verizon Curve 8330 and it does not have a browser app.  I tried to go to opera to send me a download link, but even with that I can't get my phone to go to it.  I did perform a security wipe before I activated it.  I can't seem to find a browser to download to my computer to install through the desktop manager either.  What am I missing?
Thanks,

Hi and welcome to the forums!
Are you sure your data plan is in place? How did you activate it?
Lets try this:At the home screen go to the connection icon, click on it,
and go to service status, click on it, menu key, select diagnostic test, select
run. In the course of the test the phone your data access will be checked and
a registration request will be sent. After the test completes you can read the categories
and see if a PIN test worked, and registration request was sent successfully.
If the test fails I would call the carrier and have them verify you plan,
If the test is successful they the following:
Go to options/ advanced options, Host Routing Tables, click to enter. DO NOT click on any listing.
Press menu key, and select register now.
You will get a verification email. Then go to email settings and send service books.
You will get an confirmation of setup for each email account.
After this is complete, do a battery pull to reset the device.
Let us know now it goes!
Thanks,
Bifocals

The browser icon is missing from my home page.  No icons are hidden.  When I check under applications for browser it shows it as installed.  HELP!

Was it there before and just went missing? If you change to different theme (Options | Theme) is it still missing.
Try reregistering the device by going into Options | Advanced Options | Host Routing Table. Select the bold entry, hit the menu key and select Register Now. That should send a registration message from your carrier to the device. Afterwards try removing the battery for 30 seconds.

  • Media Manager not working with new Verizon Curve, Please Help...

Close to returning my new Curve. The Roxio Media Manager will not recognize my Curve at all. I have tried everything, read every post and still nothing. Using version 4.3 of Desktop Manager with Vista Home Premium. Someone please help...
                                                            Thanks for any help

Same issue here.  Contacted Verizon tech support, they had me reinstall media manager -- which did nothing.  They had me try disabling mass media support and the media card support.  Neither which worked.  After 90minutes on the phone, the tech was contacting their "advanced support department" to get more info.  I got fed up and hung up.  Maybe they will call me back -- who knows.
The tech said that they might have to contact RIM to get it fixed.  I am thinking verizon inadvertantly blocked media transferring -- like they do on all of their other phones.  However, VCAST is not available on Blackberry phones for Verizon, so it is a stupid idea if they did it.

  • Verizon Curve 8330 speaker

Whenever I get a message, either email or MMS, that plays a sound, my speaker for the phone stops working. The only way to correct the problem is to remove the battery and restart it. I have replaced it at the Verizon store once already. They were not surprised when I told them of the problem.
Does anyone have any ideas on how to correct this problem? Thanks in advance for the help.

So it just wont work again, or wont play that sound?

  • Transfering data using switch device manager from old palm to new curve 8330....please help!!!

Trying for hours to import data using switch device manager from old Palm Treo and Palm Desktop 4.2 to my new Blackberry Curve 8330.  Blackberry seem to connect...but second step of choising Palm or Mircrosort will not allow me to select anything.  I do not believe Palm is connecting...Is my palm to old?  If I cannot tranfer data this way, especially contacts is there any other way besides entering it into Blackberry one by one?

    Hi there!
If the device switch wizard is not working, check this KB to be sure all of your Palm things are compatible and that you are using the correct process:
KB05459 How to use the Switch Device Wizard to switch from another smartphone to a BlackBerry smartphone
And then see this KB for some troubleshooting help
KB10722 BlackBerry Desktop Manager does not detect the Palm software when using the Switch Device Wizard
And if it happens that it will not work, then you will have to find out how to export from your Palm to an ASCII or CSV file...then you can import it with this process:
KB11194 How to import contacts from an CSV file to the BlackBerry device
Good luck and let us know!

  • Can't transfer calendar: Palm Treo to Curve 8330

I've been helping my husband switch over from his Palm Treo 600, using Palm desktop, to new BB Curve 8330. A salesman transferred name and tel #s only.  I've managed to switch most of his Palm into Outlook, and sync'd Outlook with the BB.  The only problem now seems to be that the calendar is not syncing over to the BB. Suggestions???
I have tried to sync setting configurations several different ways: to sync all or calendar only, to have Outlook override device, and two way.  Nothing will get the calendar over to the BB, although all his addresses and tasks are there now. Help!
    TIA,
    Michelle (for Chuck)

    Hi,
Outlook 2003 and desktop manager v.6 will be perfect!
Yes install the main email address on the Blackberry to match Outlook.
On the Blackberry you get a calendar for each email address you use.
Only one can be synchronized with the Outlook calendar.
You can go to Outlook, tools, email options and make sure of the default account.
Then on the Blackberry from the home screen, options, advanced options,
default services. Use the main email options CICAL is the calendar and CMIME is the email.
By placing them as default you then sync email address to email address calendars.
    Make sense?
Let me know if you need anything else!

  • Problems syncing BB Curve 8330 with Outlook Express

Just got a new BB Curve 8330 and love the phone, but having problems syncing with Outlook Express 6.0. I am running Desktop Manager 4.5 (started with 4.7 and had same problem) and Windows XP SP3. I need to sync Addresses and Calendar. When I go to configure syncronization and select Calendar and Setup, I never see any option for Outlook Express or Outlook (only see ASCII and Yahoo). When I select Addresses and Setup, I do see and select Outlook Express. However, when I syncronize no addresses are moved across to the Curve.
Any ideas on how to get the Outlook Express options to appear on Calendar Sync or how to troubleshoot why the Address Syncronization doesn't work (i.e. is there a log file that might have errors I could look up?) If necessary, I also have Outlook 200 on this computer if I have to go that way.
Thanks in advance for any help!!
    Ron

    Hi LeslielG,
Welcome to the BlackBerry Support Community.
Can you please verify that the appointments being deleted during synchronization are still on your BlackBerry® Bold™ 9900 smartphone? If they have been removed due to the Keep Appointments setting, the synchronization will try to remove them from Microsoft® Outlook® as well. This KB article provides more information on this. "Calendar items occurring in the past are being deleted from the calendar application on the computer" http://bbry.lv/KKQSel
    Hope this helps.

  • Google Maps no longer works for my Verizon Blackberry Curve 8330. What is wrong with Google???

For the past 11 months, Google Maps and Gmail have worked wonderfully with my Verizon Blackberry Curve 8330. Tonight, all of it stopped working. I tried to load Google Maps and failed. Kept getting the error message "Network Unavailable, blah blah blah". I tried restarting the phone, removing and reinserting the battery, until I finally uninstalled Google Maps. Now when I point my browser (OperaMini) to m.google.com to download and reinstall Google Maps, it says "Sorry the Google Maps application does not work on your 8330." This makes NO sense. Why would Google suddenly remove support for my phone? Is there a work around? Before uninstalled, I tried all sorts of tricks with editing permissions to no avail.
Also, Gmail is refusing to check mail, occasionally saying that a data connection is needed. That also makes NO sense as I have great phone reception.
My internet (OperaMini) and normal calling and texting capabilities are unaffected.
In conclusion: Is there ANY WAY to get these Google applications to reinstall and work on my phone? Or has Google screwed me over? Any help would be tremendously appreciated!
    Thanks,
    Hyun

  • Blackberry Curve 8330 & The New Jawbone

I recently bought a Blackberry Curve 8330 & The New Jawbone, and I'm having a trouble with Bluetooth connection. Once Ipair them up, they stay connected well, and suddenly, it disconnected and reconnected by itself. Sometimes, Bluetooth function in Blackberry becomes disabled by itself. So I took the Blackberry to Verizon store and replaced to the new one, but still same problem occurs. Any ideas??

Hi and welcome to the forums!
    Two things to try:
    1. Options - Bluetooth - Scroll to paired device (jawbone Click - options Make sure option Trusted is enabled
    2. Options -  Bluetooth -  Address book transfer Disabled
According to the knowledgebase it fixes a problem where the Bluetooth accessory drops off after a call is made.
    Hope this helps!

  • Any more news on when the v5.0 upgrade will be available on the Curve 8330 (Bell Mobility)?

    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hi there,
OS upgrades are dependent on the carrier, so only Bell will know if they will upgrade the Curve 8330 OS. That said, I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but I wouldn't be too hopeful that I'd see an upgrade if I were you. OS 5 is considerably larger than previous OSes and upgrading dramatically reduces the available app memory. As a result, most carriers have simply chosen not to provide an upgrade to OS 5.
    I hope this information helps!

  • My New Curve 8330! (few questions from a noob!)

So I finally got the Curve 8330 - I had been waiting all this time for the Thunder but decided yesterday that if my fingers are too fat for an iPhone, then they will be for the Thunder as well. Anyways, I LOVE the Curve thus far...just a few questions.
#1) Do the "messages" and "[email protected]" icon serve the same purpose? If so, which I think they do, how do I filter the "messages" icon so that ONLY my incoming SMS messages are shown??? As of now, the "messages" icon is cluttered with e-mail, SMS, bb mesanger & voicemail! I HATE THAT! I'd rather keep it clean and organized so that If i wanna view my SMS messages, I click on "messages" If I wanna view my bb messanger messages, I click on the bb messanger icon, If i wanna see my e-mails, I click on the "[email protected]" icon and so forth. Is there a way to filter it this way???
#2) When I send an e-mail, I automatically get THAT e-mail sent back to me! How do I disable this function? I have no need to recieve in my INBOX the e-mail I just sent out.... I tried going into "Messages->options" and turning the "hide sent" to "ON" but this problem still occurs...... Any help on that?
#3) I have this stupid "Facebook" icon in my menu, how do I delete this permanently?
Thanks everyone, I'm sure i'll have more questions as I'm readin through!

Yes, when you go into your messages and hit the menu key and select options and general options. Email and sms messages should be set to separate. Hit the back key to the right of your trackball to save. If you do not see an icon now just for sms and mms, do a battery pull. Take the battery out with the phone on and leave it out for 30 seconds. Replace it and allow the phone 1-3 minutes to reboot does the icon appear now?

  • Facebook 2.0 Upgrade on Curve 8330 Problems.

I've got a Blackberry Curve, 8330 (v4.5.0.191) (Platform 3.4.0.62), currently have Facebook 1.9.0.28 installed, running fine. I've gotten a notification saying Facebook 2.0 is available, but I cannot download it for some reason. I go to the "Options" setting within Facebook, "Check for Upgrade," get a notification saying there's one available, etc. Click the "Yes" button to perform the update, which opens the BlackBerry Browser. The page ends up being blank. The page address is
    http://www.blackberry.com/app_includes/mobileapps/facebook/static/index_redirect.shtml
Have tried various emulation modes with the BlackBerry browser, as well as trying to get -somewhere- using Opera, which is also installed on my phone with no avail. I have no cord to sync my phone to my computer and do it that way, as I moved and a few things were misplaced.
I've gone through the Blackberry App World, although it shows that the newest version is 1.9.0.28, even though I know there was a recent release. My phone is entirely up to date, as far as OS and everything else goes.
Is there a place I could download the .jar/.jad file directly? or is there a fix for this?
    Any help would be appreciated.

    Same with mine.
Apprently there's a new OS release for the 8330 (v5.0.0.438), although not released through all carriers. My phone is "Up to date" according to the over-the-air Wireless Update in the settings thinger (I use Verizon), but this is installable. I personally have issues getting the Loader.exe to work , but you may have better luck. Have a gander at this thread-

  • Update to Device Software 5.0 on Curve 8330

RIM sent me an e-mail today inviting me to upgrade my Sprint Curve 8330 to Device Software 5.0.  In the past, this wasn't available on Sprint devices.  My computer is a Mac, so I connected to Blackberry Desktop Manager and it said that there are no upgrades available. Am I able to upgrade my device software?

    Hi
    addydaddy wrote:
Same experience with me.  Carrier is Bell Mobility.  I think BlackBerry has missed a step somewhere.  Mine says same message "no updates available" and takes me back to reference v4.5 which is my current OS.
Check the FULL OS version. 4.5 on its own is meaningless. Options > About 3rd line will show the full version on your device. For example, mine shows v5.0.0.681.
Then find your carriers' latest offering from here
    http://us.blackberry.com/support/downloads/download_sites.jsp
    and compare the two.
There is nothing preventing you upgrading to a newer version from a different carrier providing you navigate to the downloaded OS on computer C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research in Motion\AppLoader and delete the file vendor.xml.
