New Window Opening Behind Browser Window

I have produced a page in DW3 for an artist where you click
on a thumbnail and it opens a new window with an enlargement of
that image. (I use the DW3 javascript behaviour to do this).
When I test it on my browsers the windows open in front of
the main browser window and all is hunky dory.
When my client does the same, she claims that some of the
windows open in front of the main browser window but some open
behind the browser window and are obscured. She says she perceives
a "flash" if the new window opens behind the browser window. She is
using Firefox 2.0.9.17
Has anyone experienced this behaviour and figured out a
fix?

Usually the user/browser decides where new windows/tabs will
be opened.
But why open a new window at all? Why not use something like
Litebox?

We are using Windows 7 and Outlook 2010. When opening a new message or replying, the new window opens behind the email and is unseen. Is there a way to make the new window open on top (always)?

    Hi,
To resolve this issue, modify the value of the ForegroundLockTimeout registry entry in Registry Editor. To do this, follow these steps:
    ===============
Important This section, method, or task contains steps that tell you how to modify the registry. However,

  • Spaces - New Window opens behind existing window

I have an annoying situation - I love Spaces - but it has a New Window characteristic that drives me nuts.
For example, if I click a website link in email or other application, the linked window will almost always open behind a window that I'll already have open in Safari.
Or if I double click an image in Finder, it will open behind open windows in Photoshop or Freehand.
It would be great if these new windows would open in front!! Any suggestions? I can't find any settings to change this.

  • Apple Mail new messages opening behind active window

I have been noticing that new mail messages often open behind active windows, especially Microsoft office (Word).  When I create a new message, the new message will often open and sit behind the current open document.  I have noticed this mostly when using a second display.  It also does not seem to be isolated to just Mail, but that's where I see it the most.  Has anyone else seen this?

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, or by a peripheral device.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output andWi-Fi on certain iMacs. The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin. Test while in safe mode. Same problem? After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

  • New window opens behind existing window - how to modify?

Sometimes when I select another program or function, the new window opens up behind an existing window on the screen.  I know there are ways of getting to the new window, but how can I make W7 operate like earlier Windows in this respect - i.e. always open a new window in the foreground?

This is an OLD POST, but I think I need to contribute my two cents!
In Windows 7, window pop-ups are control by FOREGROUNDFLASHCOUNT and FOREGROUNDLOCKTIMEOUT in the REGISTRY (You need to CLICK ON the START ICON at the leftest of your TASKBAR, and type REGEDIT in the SEARCH PROGRAMS and FILES field).  Go to the REGISTRY
EDITOR and it is at this path:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\CONTROL PANEL\DESKTOP.
One click on the DESKTOP (Manual Display), and your will see the detail populate at the right side of the REGISTRY EDITOR window.  Go to fine the FOREGROUNDLOCKTIMEOUT, and double click on it.
The EDIT DWORD small window will pop-up.  Change the VALUE DATA to ZERO.
Yes, you must restart your PC in order for the change to apply.
Here is what is telling us in the Windows 7 manual:  http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc957205.aspx
    ForegroundFlashCount

Yes, if the DOWNLOAD timer in the FOREGROUNDLOCKTIMEOUT (SHOWING 30D40 Hexadecimal) is longer than the 3 FLASH(Default), then you will see the new WINDOW pop-up behind your mother window or your application.  Set the VALUE DATA to ZERO, sooner

  • New window open behind other windows?

I'm apple clicking links to see them in their own window. They are coming up behind current windows, shouldn't be other way around? shouldn't they come in front of current windows?

    Hi Kevin,
Yes, they used to. Not sure why Apple changed things but now you need to set the following pref:
Safari Preferences -> Tabs -> Select tabs and windows as they are created -> Check this
Even if you have tabs turned off for apple+click, this preference still alters the new window behaviour.
Hope that fixes it for you.

  • Window opens behind another window with sound how do i stop this.

When I open a window, another window will open behind it with sound. Mostly some add witch I then open that page and close. How do you stop this unwanted pages from opening?

I assume we are talking about Safari?  If so goto Safari > Preferences > Security.  Make sure Block pop-up windows is checked.
Also uncheck Enable Java.  I have had problems with pop-under windows and this has prevented them.  If you have a site that requires Java you can always re-enable it.

  • Open New Browser Window in CS4 opens behind existing window - HELP!

I am creating a website in CS4, and everything works fine EXCEPT ona few pages, for every link I have set up to open in a new browser window, the new window opens BEHIND the existing window, so that you cannot see it. I tried one solution that said to type "javascript:;" in the href (link) box, but that did not correct the problem. Any ideas?
    Thanks.

Sounds like you have Tabbed browsing enabled.

  • When a window is open and I try to go to a new bookmark or a link in an existing site, the new window opens behind the old window.

It isn't every time, and sometimes doesn't happen for a long time, then I'll go to a bookmark or toolbar link and the new window opens behind the one I was on. Example: I just opened a second window (CTRL N) and clicked on a bookmark. It opened a new window behind the one I'm on as I type this. I did the same steps again and it opened the new window in front of this one. It doesn't seem to make any difference which site I start from or go to or if I use CTRL N or let the bookmark do the opening.

This can happen if you have a tab open in the main browsing window that uses the plugin-container process (e.g. Flash).

  • New window opens behind, etc.

I'm running Safari 4.0.5. Several things are happening. I can't launch Safari directly from the dock. The Safari icon on the dock open a finder window with the Safari icon, from which I can launch Safari.
After several minutes of inactivity, the address bar will not accept input. Clicking on the bar moves the bar. I'm lucky if re-launching Safari solves the problem. Then there are the windows. When I click on a link, the new window opens behind the old one. Clicking on the window does not bring it to the front. I have to move the original window out of the way in order to enter text or click on links in the new window. Sometimes, the dock indicates Safari is running, and there is a Safari window open, but not active. Clicking in the window does not make Safari active. Sometimes Safari is active and I want to go to the Finder. Clicking on the desktop does not take me to the Finder.

    HI John,
Move the current Safari icon off the Dock. Just click and drag the icon straight up until it goes "poof".
Now go to your Applications folder and try launching Safari from there. If you can, then you will see a new Safari icon in the Dock. Click that then click: Options/Keep in Dock. or just Keep in Dock.
You may need to reset Safari and empty the cache also.
From the Safari Menu Bar, click Safari / Empty Cache. When you are done with that...
From the Safari Menu Bar, click Safari / Reset Safari. Select the top 5 buttons and click Reset. Relaunch Safari. If you still have problems...go here for trouble shooting 3rd party plugins or input managers which might be causing the problem. Safari: Add-ons may cause Safari to unexpectedly quit or have performance issues
Make sure Safari is not running in Rosetta. Right or control click the Safari icon in your Applications folder then click Get Info. In the Get Info window click the black disclosure triangle so it faces down. Where you see Open using Rosetta... make sure that is NOT selected.
If you still have problems, go to the Safari Menu Bar, click Safari/Preferences. Make note of all the preferences under each tab. Quit Safari. Now go to ~/Library/Preferences and move this file com.apple.safari.plist to the Desktop. Relaunch Safari. If it's a successful launch, then that .plist file needs to be moved to the Trash.

  • Opening new tabs makes the browser window wider

when opening a new tab in safari
it makes the browser window bigger (at the bottom)
but not only at the bottom actually
after a few close-open's it also starts growing at the top
and for me it's unacceptable cause there are folders that i need fulltime access to (at the top)
is there a way (a script) to prevent safari "grow" and make the browser window bigger in a while ?
i don't really know why is it happening because if you press cmd+t it opens a new tab and the browser window kinda slides bigger at the bottom but then if you press cmd+w it does the opposite and the browser window stays the same size after those actions
i can't follow but after some time it starts to be bigger not only at the bottom
it grows til the dock and then starts growing at the top
is there a way to prevent that ?
i mean take opera for example. it always stays the same size and new opened tabs take the "inside space" if you know what i mean. the browser window doesn't get bigger. there is space allocated especially for tabs
i like safari but it is very important for me that it stays the same size all the time
i have all windows and folders situated exactly where i want them and if something moves and covers other items, it gets uncomfortable
    thank you

(i have 'secrets' app installed and it makes pop up windows open in the same browser window, so it might be becasue of that)
Yes, it sounds like this is the cause.
Some pop-up window code forces the new window to be a certain size. Since it's intended to open in a new window, that normally wouldn't cause problems. But you're forcing the pop-up to open as a new tab in the current window, which causes the current window to be resized to that new page's defined size.

  • Open a browser window in the same window

Hello everybody, I have a question:
I want to open a browser window from an applet. Not in a new window but in the same window.
    I already know about the
    getAppletContext().showDocument(new URL("http://java.sun.com"), "_blank");
applet-instruction but it opens the html page in a new window. I have already proved changing the "_blank" parameter for "_self" or "_parent" but stills the same: it's opened in a new window. Does anybody could help me please?
    Thanks

    public void showDocument(URL url)
Replaces the Web page currently being viewed with the given URL. This method may be ignored by applet contexts that are not browsers.
    Parameters:
url - an absolute URL giving the location of the document.
Applet must be running in a browser for this to work. More information at this website

  • Random Window opening behind...CLick on window not brought front...

I have had the same settings on Safari since the dawn of Safari. This happens randomly, so something within the code of a window must be controlling it.
When I control-click a link and "open new window" it normally, 500 times in a row, will open in front of the window I'm in.
But lately, every now and again, it starts opening behind the window I'm in. and if I simply click on it, it becomes active, but it doesn't appear in front! It's just active behind the window I started with. To get to it and see it I have to move the starting window out of the way.
What is causing this? Can I stop it?
    Thank you!

No, there's no code in a window controlling this; it's triggered by JavaScript and/or Flash, so if you disable JavaScript and the Plugins in Preferences > Security, that should stop those. But it will also prevent you from seeing any Flash content on sites, or opening links controlled by JavaScript.
