New windows open like Tabs but no address bar

Hello,
After upgrading to Firefox 4, when I open a new browser window, it displays as a new tab. But with the tab under all the toolbars, the address bar missing, and my bookmarks gone. Back, forward, and reload buttons are not functional.
I have to open 3-4 new windows before getting one that's "normal". Has anyone else seen this?
A fix, please?
Thank you.

  • Javascript openDoc not working. All I get is a new window with about:blank in the address bar.

    I have my resume posted in a website applitrack.com. I can upload PDFs. The PDF file shows up as a link and when I mouse over the link, the status bar shows javascript:openDoc('file', '18292'). When I click the link, I get a new window and "about:blank" in the address bar. This website works fine in IE (the PDF gets launched when I click the file link.
    I tried disabling and uninstalling AdBlock Plus and that didn't help.

    There have been reports of the PDF plugin not working correctly with Firefox 5.
    It may help to change the setting for PDFs here:

  • When clicking a link normally - a new tab would open, but in this version a new window opens and there are 2 blue bars - the bar at the top of the browser and on the left hand side is a orange firefox button - Next time i start firefox it crashes!!!

    This window looks weird: there are 2 blue bars(the upper blue bar - normally there is 1, with the current page name and - Mozilla Firefox written in white inside of the bar) plus in the 2nd bar there is an orange firefox button, on the left hand side.
    I have already asked this question and was adviced to start in safe mode - this did not help either.
    Please help me quickliy, it is really annoying.

    If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears.
    * Use "Disable all add-ons" on the [[Safe mode]] start window to disable all extensions.
    * Close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit"; Linux: "File > Quit")
    In Firefox 4 you can use one of these to start in <u>[[Safe mode]]</u>:
    * Help > Restart with Add-ons Disabled
    * Hold down the Shift key while double clicking the Firefox desktop shortcut (Windows)

    Using firefox 14.0.1. Loading a link using right-click and "Open Link In New Window", results in new window opening but address bar does not show URL. However, if I right click on a link and select "Open Link In New Tab", the Tab shows URL in address bar. So it's working when it's a New Tab but not a New Window.

    The Reset Firefox feature can fix many issues by restoring Firefox to its factory default state while saving your essential information.
    Note: ''This will cause you to lose any Extensions, Open websites, and some Preferences.''
    To Reset Firefox do the following:
    #Go to Firefox > Help > Troubleshooting Information.
    #Click the "Reset Firefox" button.
    #Firefox will close and reset. After Firefox is done, it will show a window with the information that is imported. Click Finish.
    #Firefox will open with all factory defaults applied.

  • When I do a search, with MSN as my homepage, it pops up in a new window not a tab like it used to. MSN says it is Firefox related. How do I fix this? I have the option selected to open new windows in tabs instead and it still won't work.

    I use Firefox 4.0.1 and have MSN set as my homepage. Recently, even with the option set to make windows open in tabs instead, if I do searches on the MSN page, the results pop up in a new window. I contacted MSN and they said it is something to do with Firefox. It didn't use to do this, even after initially upgraded to 4.0.1, but started about a week ago and even with me doing nothing to my computer. How do I get this to stop and go back to new tabs instead?
    It does not do this using Google, AOL, Yahoo, or another other search, just MSN/Bing.

    That's strange. It's possible that you are having a problem with some Firefox add-on that is changing your Firefox's normal behavior. Have you tried disabling all add-ons (just to check), to see if Firefox goes back to normal? Also have you tried uninstalling & re-installing flash? If you need help un-installing Flash see http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/uninstall-flash-player-windows.html. You also could try safe mode. See https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/troubleshoot-firefox-issues-using-safe-mode?redirectlocale=en-US&redirectslug=Safe+Mode .

    That happens if the server sends the file as text/plain.
    You can see this if you open "Tools > Page Info > General": Content-Type: text/plain
    Files send this way will always open in a tab.

    Firefox is coded to open new tabs in a blank page. That may change in Firefox 4. I don't know.
    In the meantime, there is an add-on called Tab Mix Plus that I think provides that option. https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/1122/

  • Want to hide address,Tool,link bars of a new window opened using target="a"

    Hi,
    I have to hide the address bar, tools bar, lilnks bar of a new window opened using the target = "detailWindow".
    I am opening the window on click of a link and button but I cannot use window.open();. On click of the link for the first time a popup window should be opened showing respective data and then on click of the hyperlink the same window (pop up) should get refreshed with the new data.
    I have searched a lot regarding it but I haven't found any proper solution for the same. I have tried using the javascript but only solution I found is to make the window fullscreen.
    Can anybody help me by providing the solution for the above problem?
    Thank you.

    Not possible.
    Use window.open(). There it is for.

  • Always enjoyed being able to open new windows in a tab. However, after upgrading found I was no longer able to do this.

    Have search all over web and tried every solution I could find; explored addons, restored, even reinstalled 19.0 but I am still unable!
    It is very frustrating.
    Would appreciate suggestions (never thought I'd say this but Safari is looking good!).
    Thank you.

    Let me see if I understand the original problem. You can checked the preference on the following tab to divert new windows to tabs instead:
    Firefox menu > Preferences > Tabs
    And that was not working correctly, either on all sites or a few particular sites.
    Note that by default, sites that open a new window with particular specifications, such as the size, bypass that setting. To force even those windows into a new tab, you can use the about:config preference editor.
    In a new tab, type or paste '''about:config''' and press Enter. Click the button promising to be careful.
    In the filter box, type or paste '''link.o''' and pause while the list is filtered.
    Double click these and set the value as desired:
    '''(A) browser.link.open_newwindow'''
    '''3 = divert new window to a new tab''' (<u>default</u>) (checked*)<br>
    2 = allow link to open a new window (unchecked*)<br>
    1 = force new window into same tab
    '''*''' First checkbox in Options > Tabs
    '''(B) browser.link.open_newwindow.restriction''' - for links in Firefox tabs
    '''0 = apply the setting under (A) to ALL new windows (even script windows)<br>
    2 = apply the setting under (A) to normal windows, but NOT to script windows with features (<u>default</u>)<br>
    1 = override the setting under (A) and always use new windows
    '''(C) browser.link.open_newwindow.override.external''' - for links in other programs
    -1 = apply the setting under (A) to external links (<u>default</u>)<br>
    '''3 = open external links in a new tab in the last active window'''<br>
    2 = open external links in a new window<br>
    1 = open external links in the last active tab replacing the current page
    Sorry, that's a lot of data, but hopefully it's reasonably clear.

  • When opening new tab, a new window opens instead; 2nd window does allow you to open new tab

    boot up firefox, click to open a new tab, a new window opens up instead; in the original window, if you keep clicking to open a new tab it opens it in the 2nd window.

    I'm having this problem, but I don't have the textarea cache add-on, nore the MozBar 2.3.
    Now that I think about, I did just update an add-on (imtranslator), maybe that's what causing this to happen for me..
    edit: yep, disabling it fixed the problem for me.

  • When I open a new tab, a new window opens instead. I have set preferences... doesnt matter. Help please.

    Everytime I open a new link from an originalpage a new window opens instead.

    Are that JavaScript links?
    You can look at the browser.link.open_newwindow prefs on the about:config page.
    * http://kb.mozillazine.org/browser.link.open_newwindow.restriction (0)
    * http://kb.mozillazine.org/browser.link.open_newwindow (3)
    To open the <i>about:config</i> page, type <b>about:config</b> in the location (address) bar and press the "<i>Enter</i>" key, just like you type the url of a website to open a website.<br />
    If you see a warning then you can confirm that you want to access that page.<br />
    *Use the Filter bar at to top of the about:config page to locate a preference more easily.
    *Preferences that have been modified show as bold(user set).
    *Preferences can be reset to the default or changed via the right-click context menu.

    In Firefox Options / Privacy be sure "Remember download history" is checked. To see all of the options on that panel, "Firefox will" must be set to "Use custom settings for history".
    To find your OS information, on your Windows desktop, right-click the My Computer icon, choose Properties, under System on that small window is info about your OS.
