New Windows XP 64bit, but no drivers for K8N Neo Platinum

Hello,
I have a MSI K8N Neo Platinum with an AMD 2800+. Just received the new Windows XP 64bit edition after attending a trade show in Houston. Used Partition Magic to make a separate partition on my SATA 400GB HD, knowing there was possibly going to be a problem. This is the final release, retail packaged, not the Beta.
The only drivers found was for my MSI Nvidia 5600 AGp video card. No other audio, Nvidia chipset or board drivers are plug & play. Onboard LAN isn't even found.
Any drivers out yet? I figure i'll have to wait. Can't get updates either bacause it won't detect onboard LAN or a Linksys or 3Com PCI card I tried also.
Woodrow

There most certainly are nVidia drivers.  The only thing that there aren't drivers for currently is the onboard sound.  This, combined with lack of driver support for my peripherals (webcam and printer) are why I haven't made the switch.

  • Which drivers for K8N Neo 2 Platinum

I'm just about to place an order for a K8N Neo2 Platinum to go with my AMD 64 3000+ Winchester.
As is usual I normally download the latest relevant BIOS and drivers in advance so everything is ready to go when the hardware turns up.
However, looking at the MSI page, there seems to be a bewildering array of drivers for this board: Neo2 drivers and it's not exactly clear which ones are for my specific board.
For example, I can't seem to find a relevant SATA driver from the list.
The actual board I'm going for is this one from Overclock: link to board
Can anyone list clearly the drivers, BIOS and any other utilities I will need when installing this board?
    Thanks.

Well after a lot of reading, I've determined that the following files are applicable to my board:
    BIOS
    BIOS: 7025v14.zip
    Drivers
    NVIDIA nForce3 System Drivers: NF3_CK8S.zip
    Marvell LAN Drivers: MarvellWXP69.zip
Realtek ALC Series AC'97 Audio Drivers: Realtek_ALCXXX_73.zip
I still can't seem to find a SATA/IDE driver as none of the ones listed are compatible with a Neo2 Platinum.
The closest I can find is the Nvidia nForce3 SATA/RAID driver for Windows 2K/XP but that is only for K8N Neo Platinum (7030).
Anyone know if this is the same driver for the Neo2 Platinum (7025) also?
    Have I missed anything?
There are also lots of utilities, some of which appear to be useful, if not necessary:
    Utilities
    NVIDIA nTune: nTune_MB.zip
    MSI DigiCell: DigiCell_MB.zip
    MSI PC Alert 4: PCAlert4_MB.exe
    MSI Core Center: CoreCenter_MB.exe
    MSI Live Update: LiveUpdate.exe
    Fuzzy Logic 4: FuzzyLogic.exe
    MSI DMI Browser: DMIBrowser.exe
    MSI i-Speeder: I-SPEEDER.exe
    MSI WMI Info: WMIInfo.exe
    MSI PasswordKeeper: PasswordKeeper.exe
    MSI SecureDoc: SecureDoc.exe
    MSI InfoView XP: InfoView.exe
    MSI GoodMem: insgoodmem.exe
    MSI Lockbox: LockBox.exe
Anyone care to comment on the usefulness (or not) of any of those utilities?

  • Good News For K8N Neo Platinum Users!!!

Ok, after fiddling with my BIOS for almost 2 days now, and scanning the forums for a solution, I contacted MSI Technical Support in California, USA. They are sending me a new BIOS chip, free of charge, so anyone having a severe problem with BIOS revisions 1.8 and 1.9 on the K8N Neo Platinum (MS-7030) please give tech support a call, I let them know I would be posting this in the forum and they will be inandated with phone calls, but woohoo, they are sending a new chip pre-flashed with BIOS revision 1.7.
Please refer to this thread for the reasons why:BIOS v1.9 Is Terrible

What good news?  UK based MSI did not offer any such replacement bios after my problems updating to 1.8 bios.
I purchased a new bios chip with 1.9 bios from a UK supplier.....after fitting the bios I returned to the same problems as before, failure to boot past post and freezing in bios menu. I then remembered another post on this sight and removed one stick of memory......everything back to normal    .I have just fitted a 1gb Corsair cas 2 memory and all seems well I will save my 2X 512 Corsair XL my next project which will not be a MSI Motherboard
MSI UK  have not come out of this very well and from the posts that I have read there are quite a few people out there with problems. Many thanks to all those who posted on this,  it certainly helps to know that you are not the only one with problems.

  • BIOS FOR K8n neo platinum

A while back there was a big post about how to properly upgrade your bios and he had listed every bios beta or official for download.  Anyone have that post? and What is the best bios for the K8n Neo platinum? Im still running on 1.1....

Quote from: Supershanks on 09-June-05, 04:24:05
Just the usual bios to bios temp tweak - no worries
Have been running with speedfan with a 4C offset think i can dith it now with 1.8
    Higher or lower?
Hmmm... My SpeedFan is running with no delta adjustments on the temps. I wonder if there is a discrepancy in what it's reporting & what it actually is after you boot into Windows
I'd try to go by what the Hardware Monitor says, but temp's always seem to be high when you're in BIOS anyway....

  • Need some recommendations for K8N Neo Platinum

Well I am real psyched about my k8N Neo Platinum coming on tuesday which wi8ll be coupled with a Althon64 3200+ and I want to go ahead and purchase some RAM and possibly a heatsink and was looking for some suggestions. First of all I won't be overclocking my system much if any at all bare in mind. I am looking at getting one stick of 512 for now since money isn't exactly flowing right now and am looking to spend at the MAX $150. Correct me if I am wrong but I am probably going to just go with the PC3200 since I am not doing any huge overclocks.  Here is some of the ones I was looking at:
Corsair XMS Extreme Memory Speed Series PC-3200 - $141
    Kingston HyperX 184 Pin 512MB DDR PC-3200 - $141
Please provide other suggestions if you have them, I was leaning towards the Corsair.
As far as the heatsink goes I know several people on here use the  ZALMAN CNPS7000A which looks pretty darn nice to me because it is so quiet but do I really need something like this since I won't be overclocking? I am tempted to get it just because it is so quiet, that's something I am trying to do this time since my current computer is 10ft tall and sounds like a lawn mower. I got the Antec Sonata case with the big 120mm ehxaust fan to help out the cause. Thanks for any help.

Yeh I have been there and the only reason I am not getting it from there is that they are out of stock. So I was going to get it from Directron.com but I noticed that apparently have two all copper Zalman's the CNPS7000 and the CNPS7000A. I suppose I'll just get the "A" version since that is the one they have on NewEgg. Now just have to lock down my memory choice and I am all set.
My bad I just went out and checked the picture for the 7000A on Directron and it clearly has aluminum in it, they just didn't mention it in the description. I'll just have to see if it is worth it for the extra 8 bucks to get the all copper one.

  • Severe Problems with BIOS v1.9 for K8N Neo Platinum (7030)

I updated to the new BIOS and nothing but crashes, so I tried to go back to 1.7, because everything was working fine with 1.7 and now, the BIOS is asking for a password, and I never setup a password in the BIOS. What the heck, now I have a $1000 (US) paper weight, thanks alot for the buggy BIOS update, now you can send me a new motherboard!!!
**Edit** Well I found a work around, went back to BIOS 1.5 for now until I can get 1.7 to work again, 1.8 and 1.9 are screwed up beyond belief, you can't set any overclocking features, RAM timings are messed, there is no choice for 1T/2T, currently I'm running at SPD on the DRAM and stock on all the CPU functions. I would really like if someone could test these BIOS versions before putting them up so stupid people like me update them. Also, leaving more choices than one BIOS update in MSI LiveUpdate would be nice, because flashing via the floppy drive is a pain in the butt, lucky I have an extra computer to use.**End Edit**

Do a floppy drive flash with the correct switches.  Go back to the last bios that worked properly or try Pinochio's bios which a lot of people like.  Liveupdate will mess up your bios.  So can winflash if you do not use it correctly.

After you have read about it, do this using the correct flash utilty file name and the correct  bios file name
"DOS floppy flash shall be performed with :
    awfl833d.exe w7030nms.180 /py /sn /wb /cc /cd /cp /f /e
(Replace biosfilename with appropriate version for Neo1/neo2 etc , switches remain the same )
    After flash is complete :
TURN OFF PSU (don't restart) wait 15 seconds
Turn on again , press the power button .
Enter BIOS and load optimized defaults (NO OTHER CHANGES) , save + exit
Boot the system again with the floppy in the drive to let the DMI pool build and update itself .
    Good luck.

  • Now installed CS3 on new Windows Ultimate 64bit - but fonts prob

Today is Saturday for me in Australia ...
I thought I would share my experience for others that may be getting a new computer in the near future.
On Wednesday afternoon Dell delivered new 64bit computer, 8G ram with Windows 64 Xp downgraded from Windows Ultimate 64. I phoned Dell and they said they would send a technician the following day to install Windows Ultimate 64 (which I had paid for). I live a long way out of the city (2 hours) so I was quite impressed with their service.
This duly happened on Thursday and the computer was running smoothly with Vista Ultimate 64bit in the late afternoon. Although Vista is very different, I am getting used to it and it comes with it's own security. I turned OFF the User Account reminders as they drove me mad constantly asking my permission - turning the reminders off made the installs easier too. I am the only user, so it's fine for me.
I then spent the rest of that day and Friday installing printers (which took some time getting 64bit drivers) and Adobe CS3 programs. One of the suites didn't activate so I called Adobe (just before closing time) and they activated over the internet as it hadn't de-activated from my other computer properly.
So, thanks to Bob's earlier advice - I now have all my CS3 Production and Web suites installed and CS3 Indesign.
The only little glitch appears to be Indesign doesn't see the fonts installed in the Windows folder. I have deleted the Adobefnt.lst and reopened Indesign but it still doesn't see them.
Have I missed something? Or should I ask this in the Indesign forum?

I found a post elswhere about the Arial Narrow font family.
It said to find an old computer/disc that had the Arial Narrow font family dated 1998. I was lucky to find a disc that I had copied my fonts folder in 1998. I deleted all Arial Narrow fonts, and copied the 4 old fonts dated 1998 Arial Narrow family to the fonts folder. All is working properly now.
The problem apparently has to do with Office 2007 not Adobe.

  • HDD for K8N Neo platinum

Im unsure what serial ATA HDDs are compatible with my mobo (MSI 7030)
Im looking at the SATA version of the Seagate 7200.8
I know it has NCQ which my mobo does not have
Will the drive still work anyway?

It will work,(ncq has the option to be enabled/disabled for chipsets that support ncq)  but if that drive is more expensive than an equivelant sata1/non-ncq drive I'd save the money or use it to buy a few more gigabytes.

  • BIOS wiped! Where do I get a new chip? (in UK ... K8N Neo Plat v1.7)

Aaaaaaargh!  I've just wiped my BIOS and now my PC won't post (just a blank screen). Where in the UK can I get a new BIOS chip (or get mine reprogrammed)?
What I need is: v1.7 for K8N Neo Platinum
How did this happen?... I  upgraded to v1.9 yesterday (using MSI Live Update), started to have problems/crashes today (like sooo manay folks!!!), so tried to reflash back to v1.7 (using floppy - combination of Win98 boot and v1.7 flash files). The reflash app seemed to work OK... until I restarted the PC
       Cheers,
       Colin.
    P.S.
As much as I love this mobo I'm starting to lose patience with it. Had it for approx 6 months and when it's stable it's great. However 3 months has been spent fighting niggles, instabilities, and crashes

    Folks,
Many thanks for the replies. I'll save those URLs/contacts for future reference.
Turns out I managed to breath life back into my mobo! Seems like the BIOS CMOS got really screwed over... the first CMOS clear I tried after the BIOS flash didn't work, but today I was being stubborn and tried another CMOS clear (this time with mainspower cord removed, and the "clear CMOS" jumper left in place for 30 mins while I had diner!).
    Things seem stable now.
       Cheers,
       Colin.
    P.S.
With hindsight I think the problems I was originally seeing were probably not due to BIOS v1.9 .  My guess now is that they were caused by my sound card doing "weird stuff" while playing TOCA2 (Terratec DMX6fire ... an uninstall then reinstall with the same driver seems to have cured that). Still, based on what I read in this forum I'm in no rush to upgrade to BIOS v1.9 !!!

--Quick Guide for flashing BIOS, provided by MSI--
    1. Create a MS-DOS boot diskette, then copy the the .exe and the bios file to the floppy disk. Both of these files can be found in the package you downloaded.
    2. Press "Delete" and go to BIOS setup while computer bootup.
Check BIOS advanced features and see if BIOS flash write control is enabled
(This option must be enabled. If you can not find this setting, it means the BIOS can be
    flashed.)
    3. Boot from MS-DOS boot diskette and get a:\> prompt.
    4. Type "", then press ENTER
    5. The flash program will then ask "Do you want to save BIOS?", please press "N" for no. The when you see Press 'Y' to program or 'N' to Exit, please press "Y" to continue.
    6. After flashing complete, remove floppy and reset the system .
    7. Press DELETE or F1 when prompted at first reboot after flashing.
    8. Load BIOS optimized defaults, then save settings and exits.
    Drivers & Needed Files:
(Note: All these drivers are for Windows XP.)
Leaked Nvidia nForce3 Chipset Drivers Version 4.40
(Please use at your own risk, these are LEAKED drivers. Password for the .zip file is "ocworkbench rules". Also, you will need to rename the WinXP_2K folder in IDE to either WinXP or Win2K else the installer doesn't pick it up.) Thanks for the link Wonkanoby!
*NEW* Leaked Nvidia nForce3 Chipset Drivers Version 5.03
More leaked drivers? Seems some parts of the drivers are older and some are newer.
    1. Windows XP Service Pack 1A (Web Install) -or- Windows XP Service Pack 1A (Full Install)
    2. Microsoft DirectX 9.0b (Web Install) -or- Microsoft DirectX 9.0b (Full Install)
    3. Nvidia nForce3 Chipset Drivers Version 4.24
    4. AMD Athlon 64 Processor Driver Version 1.1.0.14
    5. Nvidia Video Card Driver Version 56.72 -or- Omega Nvidia Video Card Driver Version v1.5303
(The Omega drivers are third party drivers optimized for gaming, most prefer these over the standard Nvidia drivers.)
    5. ATI Video Card Driver Version 4.7 -or- Omega ATI Video Card Driver Version 2.5.51
(The Omega drivers are third party drivers optimized for gaming, most prefer these over the standard ATI drivers.)
    6. Onboard Sound Driver (Realtek AC'97 Audio Codec) Version A3.61
It is HIGHLY reccomended that you install the drivers/needed files in the order listed above. Please note that there are two #5's because you either install one or the other depending on your video card, do not install both of them.
You will come across a problem here though. You can't install the chipset drivers without installing the Windows service pack and DirectX first, but the Windows service pack and DirectX installs need the internet to download files and you won't have working internet until you install the chipset drivers. Here's what I did to get around this. Instead of downloading the web install versions of Windows service pack and DirectX, download the full version and and put them along with all the other drivers on a backup hard drive or burn them to a CD, this way you will have all the drivers you need when it's time to install them and none of them will require the internet to download files.
Another note when installing drivers. Apparently the Nvidia chipset drivers also come with drivers for the onboard sound, but people seem to agree that the Realtek onboard sound drivers are better. When you are installing the Nvidia chipset drivers, just be sure to uncheck the box for sound drivers when it asks you which drivers you would like to install. Now you can safely install the Realtek drivers without any chance of conflicting sound drivers. Thanks for the tip Wonkanoby!

oh.  IIRC the installer just says USB 2.0 will be fully functional after SP1 is installed.  So after you install SP1 you go into device manager and u click update driver and it will auto search and update the driver.
Simplicity-wise, i guess its pretty much equal.  It might take less preparation to just copy DX9 full onto a CD and install that first, then nforce driver, then right away you have yoru internet connection.
but i dunno.. i guess i will try it your way this time when my RMA"d board comes.
i will be fomratting and doing a fresh install later on today and will let you know if i come across any problems

Maybe...that dude used different module other than "TruePower" by Antec.
Antec's work fine and dandy with a64's for the majority of ppl, the issue arises when it is heavily o/ced I don’t mean 220 o/c mine starts to have probs @ about 2800mhz up, the 12volt rail gets taxed and usually shows up in dropping back to desk top and blank blue screens or plain old random restarts when loading the system i.e. bench marking.
To give you some idea my system would drop to about 11.2v with my msi neo and about 11.6 on the asus, a lad I know has just brought a k8ne asus board with 3200 Newcastle and his is even lower. But with all the o/cing these days more ppls are trying it hence problems all though some really have nothing to do with psu's
Not a huge issue as most ppls with a64 will never see O/c’s like that
I think that was over at AnandTech the review on the 64 mentioned the problems
he was having with antec's when O/Cing
I should add with antec , my tagan runs sweet as and didn't cost a arm and a leg

    My issues are:
Improve compatilbility problem with some USB 2.0 devices
    BIOS reported incorrect CPU temperature.
If you have the d-bracket installed, it may help to completely disconnect it. Sometimes it will cause inaccurate temp readings. You can always plug it back in if you need it for troubleshooting.
I unhooked mine & my reported CPU temps dropped by 8C...
