New Mac mini & New Wireless Keyboard - can't complete setup

I just picked up a new Mac mini, and a new Apple wireless keyboard. I'm setting up the mini for the first time and i can't complete the setup because the new wireless keyboard doesn't seem to be recognized during the initial mini setup process. Should it be?
I can use the mouse to get me to the point where it requires me to setup an account, but without the keyboard I'm unable to do so.
Is this normal? I don't have a USB keyboard or I would have just plugged it in and finished. I should be able to do this with the new wireless keyboard, right?

I had the same problem with my wife's pre 2009 Intel Mini, had to use a USB KB to do a fresh install of SL, because the BT KB wasn't picked up.
Then on my early 2009 Mini I updated it from L to SL and after SL SW update found several updates, including a bluetooth update. When it came to applying the BT update, it said turn off BT, then proceed. Next came the need for me to enter my password to proceed, but that wasn't possible as the BT KB no longer responded. Fortunately I have a USB KB handy which did the trick.
So my conclusion is you need a USB KB as well as the BT KB, to manage a BT KB Mac. (With the above two examples I used a wired mouse)

Function keys do not work on new wireless keyboard

Hello....my good friend just bought a new iMac G5 2.1 spotlight model computer and has had troubles with his new wireless keyboard in that all 16 function keys do not work at all. Got any ideas or is it just a defective keyboard? He bought this at my recommendation so i am trying to make it all work smoothly for him. Would appreciate a quick response as he has now had this mac for 2 weeks and we cannot figure out the problem. Thanks in advance for any and all help

I have no issues using the Apple BT keyboard. All function keys that apply to the iPad work correctly; display brightness, iPod app control, etc.
Use the most recent version of iOS and also iTunes on your computer. Try a reset. Press & hold the Power and Home buttons together for 10+ seconds, ignoring the red power-off slider, until you see the Apple logo.
If that does not work, then restore the iPad to it factory settings.

Happy to start with the new mac i really got dissapointed by the fact that it`s impossible to pair the wireless keyboard unless you first connect a USB keyboard to the mac mini and start the configuration.
THIS S.U.C.K.S. !!!
No hint at all from apple that you first have to connect the USB keyboard.
I had to borrowed a USB keyboard from my neighbour :-((
After setting things up it was no problem at all to establish the BT connection with the keyboard.
Works fine now.

How do you set up a new mac mini with a new wireless keyboard bought separately ... computer does not see the keyboard.
I've seen this question asked before but the only answer seems to be to get a usb keyboard for set up. So do I need to go out and buy another keyboard to complete the set up or is there a way around this

If you missed the setup, most any cheap'o generic USB keyboard will work with the Mac Mini.

Apple's new wireless keyboard

Is it possible to 'easily' remove the keys on one of the new Apple, wireless keyboards - and replace them in other positions? The reason is that I now live in a small, remote village in the French Alps. When I was down at the coast I bought one of Apple's new wireless keyboards - to use with my Macbook Pro (with the lid closed) and a separate display . However, what I did not notice was that although it had a photo of a 'querty' layout on the box - it was, of course, a French 'azerty" keyboard inside! It is not easy for me to return to the shop - and, they tell me by 'phone that they do not have, nor can they get, 'querty' keyboards.
I have a gizmo that makes it easy to remove keys on the original keyboards - but these keys are much lower profile. Other than writing over the keys with a pen (and choosing a 'querty' keyboard in systems preference - can I physically move the keys without causing damage?

I have one of those keyboards, but I have never removed the keys. I do not want to guess and cause you to damage the KB. I would ask an Apple source (store, Applecare) to try to get a definitive answer.
Incidentally, you might ask Apple if you could exchange the KB for one with the key configuration you wish.

New wireless keyboard layout

Can anyone explain why the new wireless keyboard doesn't have a numeric keypad? The previous keyboards were the same with the exception of the tethered cord. Does Apple not think I would like to have the same keys on my wireless keyboard (entertainment keys, numeric keys)? I don't understand.

After 45 minutes, 9 Apple "reps" and redialing 6 times, I finally got to a place that they call "Customer (something other than service)" and the person there was at a loss when I asked for customer service. Oh well, anyway he said that he could assist me and what could he do? I asked about the new wireless keyboard (being that my white one, the best thing I have ever gotten, will need to be replaced soon, they don't hold up to Power User wear and tear) not having ten key. The rep said that he hadn't noticed. WHAT?!
So we proceeded to investigate, low and behold he got education and was amazed that there were two different versions and why the wireless one had no 10 key. We discussed that this was the dumbest thing and that it will undoubtedly hurt sales. I asked because of that, will there be a "real" one? He excused himself to go ask a product rep. After about 10 minutes he returned and said that he told them of our conversation, made it clear how I felt and said that they were aware that there was "growing negative opinions" about the new piece and that there, if at all, wouldn't be a version with 10 key until at least next quarter. I told him my main concern was that in about a month or so I will need to pick about 50 of them and if there is no 10 key, I'll have to go to Logitech. He said that the product rep mentioned that they probably lost another sale to Logitech. Yup.
WHAT WERE THEY THINKING?!!!!!!
P.S.
Since the one I have now is still under warranty, as were the previous ones, when I take it back I'll probably get a 10 keyless one, hopefully with the provision that I can exchange it for a real one when they come out.
We'll see.

Sticking keys on new wireless keyboard

I just got a brand new wireless keyboard for my laptop. The S and A keys stick now and then and leave a loooooong trail of s's or a's across my screen. Any idea what is going on here?
I also seem to loose connection now and then, could that have to do with the line of 'sight' between the laptop and the keyboard? I have the keyboard on a pull out tray, and it seems to happen when the keyboard gets to far under the actual desk. Where is the bluetooth 'antenna' or whatever it is?

and one more question! both the wireless mouse and the keyboard got set up fine and they connect (although the keyboard looses connections now and then), but when go to Preferences and click on Setup Bluetooth keyboard, it can't find it. Same thing happens with the mouse. Or it says that it can't find it.. when I"m actually using the wireless mouse. So it' wrong. Any idea what is going on there?

I have a habit of restarting my computer, when things don't work, I find it helps, and sure enough, everything works. Today, it happened again. Does anyone know what is causing this to happen?

So are you saying that it does appear in the Bluetooth browser and after selecting it and then entering the passcode the keyboard fails to pair?

New wireless Keyboard with terrible battery life

Is this how they all work?
I recently bought a wireless keyboard for my mac mini that's in a closet functioning as a media server. It seems that the battery life is terrible. I used the keyboard for about one hour one day and didn't touch the device for two weeks. After this two week interlude the batteries were dead. This is the 2nd time I have noticed this.
So should I remove the batteries when not using the keyboard. I can't seem to tell if the keyboard is on or off by pushing the button since the keyboard light doesn't stay on when in use.
I have other wireless keyboards that seem to have battery life that go and go and go

One Possible EXPLANATION For Apple Wireless Keyboards Or Mice GOING THROUGH BATTERIES In A Matter Of Weeks is as follows:
When you shut down or sleep your Mac, if there is a second Mac running at some distance away (up to 100 meters distance), and this distant Mac has bluetooth switched on, and was, for some reason, previously been paired with your wireless keyboard or mouse, then I believe the keyboard or mousewill try to link to the distant Mac after you have shut down the local Mac, using all its available transmission power to overcome the distance, and thereby wearing down the batteries.
This happened to me. I have two Macs in the house, and paired my new wireless keyboard with both computers, just so that I could use this keyboard with either Mac.
But when I shut down the Mac I was using, without me realizing, my wireless keyboard that I had in front of me would then link up to my other distant Mac (which was usually always running), located at the other side of my house, and in doing so, my wireless keyboard would wear out its batteries in weeks from the power drain due to long distance transmission and reception.
Whether this battery draining from long distance transmission and reception can also occur when the wireless keyboard or mouse has not been paired with the distant Mac, I am not sure. It's conceivable that in the bluetooth polling mode, where the distant computer is trying to link up to the wireless keyboard or mouse, there could also be substantial power draining from long distance transmission and reception (especially if bluetooth is set to discoverable).
Someone may want to test this: seeing if bluetooth polling over distance can drain power. Who knows, it may be that your neighbor has a Mac, and so when you switch off your computer, your wireless keyboard or mouse spends all night trying to link to your neighbor's Mac.

Tricks w/ new wireless keyboard

Here are the following "tricks" I have found out about the new wireless keyboard from Apple.
1. To get Page UP and Page DOWN function => fn + UP Arrow ; fn + DOWN Arrow
2. Forward delete => fn + delete key
3. Power off keyboard => Press and hold power button until the green light turns off. It'll turn on first, and then a few seconds of holding the button will turn the keyboard off.
Other tricks people have discovered? Unlike with the MacBook Pro built-in keyboard, there is "Num Lock" key, so there is no built-in numeric keypad as part of the QWERTY keyboard, at least not that I have found.

after one month my wireless keyboard batteries where empty !!!! did u experienced the same? Do u switch on/off your keyboard? I don't like the mouse when not used the device sleeps (no/low consumption)....

New Wireless Keyboard won't stay linked

I use a MBP running Leopard in closed lid configuration at work and at home most of the time unless I'm on the road. My old white wireless keyboard never forget it is synched with my laptop. However, at home I constantly have to re-introduce my new aluminum wireless keyboard to my closed lid laptop. This gets old because when I restart at home I usually like to boot off of an external drive, and of course with no active keyboard I can't use the "option" key to select my boot drive.
This did not do this under Tiger BTW.
Any ideas? I reset PRAM. Should I delete all wireless keyboards and start again? Can more than one wireless keyboard be used on the same computer (at separate times)?
Any suggestions would be helpful in order to avoid having to crack the laptop lid open to get to the non-wireless keyboard on the laptop. This sometimes confuses my external video output to my

Original wireless keyboard broken by something falling on it. I bought a new one and can't get it paired. I have tried the instructions that came with it and still can't get to work.

Thank you. It was still rather difficult to even figure out if the keyboard was on or off. I also had to make sure the old keybaord was disconnected first. It was a little confussing to know when to type in the passcode.
It did help very much to know to only turn on the new keyboard AFTER the pairing process started. Oh yes, the idea of being able to pair to my iPad and Iphone is interesting. I never even though of that! I'm going to work on it.
All in all you set me on the right track and the new keyboard is set up now.

New wireless keyboard help

I just received a new Apple wireless keyboard (2 batteries) and it was working fine
and then it just stopped when I tried to use it this morning. I powered it off before i went to bed.
No more little green light coming on when you press the power button.
I just got the keyboard from the online Apple Store yesterday.
Have tried new batteries, still no green light.

After you check to make sure your new batteries are inserted correctly (positive battery terminals both point to the right), call Apple and return the defective keyboard.
From the manual, the light should stay on solid for a few seconds to indicate the batteries are good. Presumably new batteries would be good but you might want to try them in some other device first, for example, a pocket flashlight or anything that takes those batteries. Did you try the batteries that came with the keyboard in some other device just to confirm they were dead?
