New X220 support dual external monitors with mini dock plus?

Hi,
I need to purchase a new Lenovo laptop in urgent.
But we need to make sure it support dual display to two external monitors. (VGA)
My question is:
(1) we plan to purchase with mini dock plus, it have two HDMI port.
can it support two external monitors for Intel HD Graphics 3000?
( we will close the Lids when use in dual external monitors)
(2) Can i use DVI to VGA convertor convert to VGA for supporting two external monitors
(3) what is the weight difference for X220 SATA HDD and SSD HDD?
Please kindly help in urgent!

Dual External Monitors with 15" MacBook Pro (Late 2011)

I'm looking for suggestions for using dual external monitors with new MacBook Pro's. The company I work for has started to puchase these for certain employees and we are looking for any good suggestions.
It appears that the display/thunderbolt port should be able to support many devices but I have not seen any way to hook up multiple displays. The idea is that these employees would be working with the macbook pro screen closed while in the office and use dual displays. The only option that I can find is to use a usb device to output video to a second display. I don't really like that because my experience with these devices is that they usally present a display lag and I know our graphic designers would never go for that.
One employee suggested that he use the VGA adapter and then get a VGA splitter. I'm not exacty certain that would work though. Wouldn't that just mirror the display on two screens instead of allowing an extended desktop? Also it looks like expensive Apple displays have ports so that you can daisy chain thunderbolt devices out of those monitors but this company will not go for the cost of those displays.
Am I missing anything? Any suggestions would be helpful.

Look into the Matrox Dualhead2Go DP Edition. If it works with Thunderbolt Macs, it will support two identical 1920 x 1080 DVI monitors as one extended desktop. Verify with Matrox that it is Thunderbolt-compatible and will suit your purposes before ordering.

W520 with Mini Dock Plus Series 3 won't detect Dell U2412M Monitor

I have a W520 Thinkpad with a Mini Dock Plus Series 3 with USB 3.0.
Until this morning, I was able to use it with my two external monitors connected via DVI to the Mini Dock.
The two monitors I have are:
Acer V243H
Dell U2412M
The Acer works fine regardless of which DVI port I plug it into.
The Dell refuses to work on either port.
Again, both monitors were working fine as of yesterday.
Any ideas on what might have caused this or what I can do to fix it?

I have the same problem with the minidock and display port monitors. It will not recognize them at all on power up. If I then put the w520 to sleep and wake it up a few times, it will then recognize them and allow me to use them as "projectors".
Before I upgraded the BIOS and nVidia drivers, it would always recognize one of the two, and I used to have to pull the cable out and in again on the second. Now this technique doesnt work - sleep wake is the only work around.

T440p + Dual external monitors without a dock?

Is it possible to use two external monitors with my T440p (20AW-A08500) with Intel HD Graphics withou having to buy a dock? I normally use my laptop at home with the lid shut and two monitors attached.
I used to have X1 (still do - now up for sale) and that was happily connected to two monitors via HDMI and via a MiniDP to DVI adaptor.
I wrongly assume when I bought the T440p that I would be able to somehow power my existing two monitors from the single MiniDP port.
I have seen their is a Lenovo DisplayPort to DualDisplayPort adaptor - but this talks about ThinkCentre usage - no mention of Thinkpads. Plus the price of this adaptor is pretty steep.
Any tips / advice appreciated.

Just an FYI update:
I bought a Lenovo Pro Dock after reading the specs on the Lenovo website.
However, it turns out you cant connect two digital monitors at the same time.
When it says:
1x DisplayPort 1.2 (Exclusive use with DVI-D)
1x DVI-D (Exclusive use with DisplayPort)
It actually means mutually exclusive with each other - ie only one can be used at one time.
Very disappointed in this - just glad I did not pay the full RRP of £150 - otherwise I would be gutted that Lenovo have knobbled the port in this way.
My current workaround is to just use one monitor on the dock VGA Port. and one into the DVI I could plug one into the laptop MiniDP but then I would just cause wear and tear on the laptop port through the plugging and unplugging. For some reason in my head the MiniDP does not look as solid as say a VGA or DVI port.
The other thing I noted is that despite trying to different adaptors / cables I cannot connect a monitor via its HDMI port to either the DVI or DisplayPort - just causes Windows to crash. I have the latest dock firmware and the latest graphics drivers installed. Luckily the monitor has a DVI port so I use that instead.
Serious, serious limitations on the part on Lenovo. I have a cheap Dell laptop from work and the dock allows me to connect in every possible scenario / adaptor / conversion situation without any issues.
I think Lenovo are seriously looking to lose loyal customers. When we first migrated to Dell equipment (from IBM) at work I was really disappointed as the initial batch of Dell laptops were pretty naff. How times have changed, my current work laptop is a Dell Latitude E6220 and I have to admit is a suprisingly reliable, efficient and usable laptop. The spares and accesories are much cheaper too. I am now considering a Dell as my next home laptop. A year ago this would have been unthinkable and almost considered heresy for this Thinkpad diehard!

PB supporting dual external monitors

I am trying to see if I can use the VGA and serial port out to support two Mitsubishi external monitors so I can have more viewing area with Final Cut.
Has anyone done this sucessfully? What specific cable do I need for the multi-pin serial port from the PB G4 to the serial port on the back of the monitor? The VGA hook-up is working fine.
Also, what settings do I go into to set the output of the PB G4?

I don't think you can use the DVI and the S-Video output at the same time - I think you will need to get a video card that plugs intot he PC Card slot.

Certainly not without a dock but even with, HP laptop docks pretty well limit you to one of the external monitor ports, even if there are two on the dock. We have used a device called an Atlona AT-HDPIX2 which is a usb to hdmi adapter. It provides a third monitor capability for a laptop....use the native external monitor port and the internal laptop display and then this device gives a third monitor which is full configurable from the Windows 7 display interface...clone, extend, etc. It allows full HD resolution and is responsive enough for even light gaming. HP makes no true docking station for your laptop.

Using Dual External Monitors as Separate Screens with Late-2011 15" MBP

I've looked around for answers, but haven't found something that seems to address what I'm looking for.
I have a late-2011 15" MBP. The Apple TB FAQ page says it can support two external monitors. I currently have it hooked up to one external monitor via mini-to-HDMI.
I'd like to add a second external monitor, but am not sure the best way to do that. It looks like the Apple TB monitors can do it natively, by daisy-chaining, but I can't afford to purchase two of those monitors. I'd prefer to use a third-party monitor like a ViewSonic 27" or some such, which are significantly more affordable.
I want to have two actual separate monitors, the way the setup they do with the Apple TB monitors appears – not two monitors that are splitting a single screen between them (as is the case with a few of the splitter-solutions I've seen linked).
Is there a way to achieve this?

I should clarify that I would prefer to do it without using a USB port to do a USB-to-HDMI conversion. I have used USB for a monitor before, and I find the lag virtually unworkable. A daisy-chaining solution, or a native splitter would be ideal.

Further info: I am a complete newbie to Mac. Had three macs prior to 2000 then four PCs. Just come back and struggling a bit with the unfamiliarity. On my old PC laptop I could simply switch from the laptop screen to the large external monitor (and back) with the F4 function key. While I can get the background image from my MBA to display, that's it. Until I noticed on the far left of the external monitor, the very edge of one of the web pages I was on. So Idragged it over to display in the centre. But that's all that's there. And now I have gone out of those web pages but they are still displaying on the monitor. There is some wierd disconnect. I'm sure it is just a setting thing. Will keep searching for answer but any advice welcome!

Your dsplay is getting extended onto the external monitor. Chcnage the setting to duplicate it or only display on the external monitor and you should be fine,

I'm in need of a new laptop but I dont know what to buy. I'm thinking of a Macbook Pro w/ retina (would be my first Mac). But will I be able to connect it to my two external Acer monitors? Each monitor supports HDMI, VGA and DVI. I know that Macbook Pro got one HDMI, and two Thunderbolt outputs.
Would it be possible to connect an external monitor with, lets say Thunderbolt --> VGA, with an adapter or something, and the other screen with HDMI --> HDMI?
I don't want "mirror screens", I wan't to extend the screen into two monitors.
Would this scenario be possible?

Yes, this will work just fine. I have done it through two thunderbolt -> VGA adapters. Also, have done one thunderbolt -> VGA to power one in addition to one connected through HDMI.

Dual external monitor setup?

I'd like to use dual external monitors, ideally also plus the laptop screen for a total of 3 monitors, with my new 5th gen 17" MBP. I hear that USB-to-DVI options out there due have very poor poor refresh rates and picture quality. I'd like to use the ViDock2 expresscard/34 setup, which is a full fledged external video card, http://www.villagetronic.com/vidock2/index.html, but I understand it only works with MBP gens 1-4. Anybody know any other multi-monitor solutions that work with gen 5, other than poor quality USB options? Anybody know why the ViDock2 doesn't work with the MBP 5th gen?

Yosemite dual external monitors not recognized?

I upgraded my Macbook Air this morning to Yosemite 10.10 from Mavericks. Now, my Mac only recognizes one of my two external monitors. By this I mean that only one of my two external monitors appears in the Arrangement tab of the Display settings dialog box. This setup worked previously under Mavericks though the mouse motion was jerky on the USB monitor. Is this a bug or does Yosemite not support 2 external monitors? The external monitor that works for Yosemite is connected through the DVI port. The one that no longer works is connected through a USB port via an HDMI to USB adapter. I've rebooted my Mac and the monitor several times and tried the second USB port on my Mac. Both monitors are Samsung though they are different models. Suggestions?

Same issue - but I fixed it! I had the same issues with my MBP while running Mavericks. I tried updated to Yosemite (my co-worker runs Yosemite and has no monitor issues) to no avail. It still did not want to acknowledge any external monitors. Finally I did away with the HDMI connections altogether. I bought to DVI to Thunderbolt cords (Cable Matters, Gold Plated) from Amazon and BOOM! Fixed. Both monitors fire right up every time I plug it up.
I know its not a real fix...its still an issue that Apple needs to address, but it seems to be a great way to get around it until they do. Ive been using these cables for a couple of weeks now and still rocking. I hope this helps someone!

Green pixels on external monitor with MBA coming up from sleep?

Has anyone else experienced green pixels on external monitor with MBA coming up from sleep? I can get rid of these pixels either restarting MBA or switch off the monitor for a five secs and then switch it back on. These pixels do not show up within screenshots.. or neither on MBA own screen but they do reappear on external monitor (used with mini DP-DVI-adapter) after every sleep cycle.

I have the same issue with my new macbook.
When i wake the computer from a partial sleep the screen flickers and i get line distortion through the image.
If i put the machine to sleep unplug the mini dvi adapter and replug it in and wake the computer up the problem disappears.
The issue is also intermittent doing about 3 times out of every 10 wake ups...
If anyone has any suggestions it would be great, I a using a new Dell 2208WFP monitor.

I am trying to connect two external monitors to mini DP(using a mini DP to VGA adapter) and the VGA out at once. Windows recognize both monitors as well. But it dowsn't let me use all three monitors at once(see the below image). In the dropdown, it lists all three monitors. Problem is there are two active displays I can select.

The GPU(s) in your T400 (and most other laptop brands) will support two different displays concurrently. If you want to support more than two different displays concurrently, you will need another GPU external to the T400.
Generally, if you want to use two external displays on a T400 you will nee dto use a docking station.
I have read messages on various fora on this topic and know that there are a number of ways of doing this, but as I have never had a need to do this myself I can't tell you how to go about it.

I have an early 2011 MacBook Pro. I use Premiere Pro CS5 to video edit on. It's fine but when it comes to grading it's nearly impossible on such a small screen.
I'd like to buy a 27inch external monitor (Asus, Samsung, Dell, whatever - haven't decided yet) for when I'm editing at work (which is most days). My query is regarding the resolutions. Obviously my MacBook Pro displays a resolution of 1280x800, so if I buy a monitor with a resolution of 2560x1440 for example, what gets displayed?
And also does the connecting cable make any difference? For example, if I'm connecting by Thunderbolt out to HDMI, then an HDMI to HDMI cable to the external monitor, what happens then? Or should I be using a Mini Display Port to Display Port connecting lead?
I guess all I really want to know is, will it work? But also, am I wasting my money buying an external monitor with a 2560x1440 resolution? Should I just go for one that's the same res at my MacBook Pro?
I've never really understood how these things all work!

I think it will work. You would need a mini displayport to (single link) DVI adapter to hook up that monitor.
Not sure what kind of problems you had with the ViewSonic but I'm guessing the Dell is probably a better monitor anyhow.
