Newbie - First Project with SAP Team... Monitoring Solutions/Strategy?

I just started my first job out of school two weeks ago. My first project is to work on a "monitoring strategy" for our large SAP enterprise system. We have CRM, SRM, ERP, Sol Man, EDOS, XI, etc... I am supposed to dig into each of these portions of SAP and determine what may need monitored and how to set that up... Does anyone have any ideas of how I should get started? I am new to SAP but have a decent high level understanding of it. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

The first thing about being a newbie (welcome though!) to monitoring questions at SDN is that you need to read the "rules of engagement" first.
These clearly state:
>- Please do not Cross post.
> Post your question in the most appropriate forum; not multiple forums. This is bad netiquette and will might only aggravate potential repliers.
Well, as this NW Admin forum is the most appropriate one and the other 5 which you have cross-posted to are (in my opinion) not, I will not lock this thread here. Most likely your other threads will be deleted or locked by other moderators though.
Please also read the rest of the rules by end of week three... which explain further about what is monitoried in the forums...
Cheers,
Julius

  • Doing first project with film. EDL questions.

So I'm doing my first project with Super16 in a month or two and I've got a couple of questions. The workflow will be shoot on 16 > edit in 24p DV > finish on film. I know how to do almost everything right up until we finish editing, but actually getting all the information ready to do a negative cut is something I don't know about. How does Cinema Tools factor into this? What do I need to do about the audio? What sort of windowburn or keycode information do I need to have? Do I do anything different when I import the 24p DV footage? Your help is greatly appreciated.

I have not done what you are attempting, but my understanding is that you should get flex files to bring into Cinema Tools that reflect the keycode/timecode relationship created in telecine. From there you can export a cutlist that should give you keycodes that the neg cutter can work from.
Have you read the manual for Cinema Tools?

  • First project with 16:9 film

I am doing my first project with film that was captured using the 16:9 mode on my sony camera. My question is if I have to do anything different when importing this footage from the DV tapes to FCE? I noticed there are many posts on this but just want to make sure I am taking the right steps. Thanks.

Anamorphic refers 16:9 and has nothing to do with audio. 32K is the audio sample rate. FireWire Basic should only be used with Canon cameras.
You can select the captured items and in the Anamorphic browser column check them to tell the application the material is supposed to be treated as 16:9.
Also make sure you make a new sequence that's in the correct widescreen aspect after you've changed to the correct settings.

  • SRM Monitoring Solutions/Strategy?  New to SAP monitoring need some ideas..

I started a new rotation in my IT job.  I am working with the SAP Basis team and my project involves developing a "monitoring strategy" for all of the current SAP solutions our company has implemented.
I would like to first identify possible areas that may need monitored.  Does anyone have ideas or suggestions for me for developing a plan specifically for SRM?  Any help would be much appreciated!  Thanks!

    Hello Mike,
you don't have to reinvent the wheel. Do you use SAP Solution Manager? With Solman you've got everything you need to monitor your solutions (CRM, SRM, etc....)....

  • OpenPSMSP4 to interface MS Project with SAP Project Sytems

I have installed OpenPSMSP4 to interface MS Project 2007 SP2 with SAP Project System ECC 6.0. However the upload button is deactivated so i cannot transfer from MS Project to the SAP System.
I have already created the role (SAP_PS_EPS) in PFCG and carried out the user maintenance in SU01 along with authorization for object S_RFC and S_USER_GRP but still the button remains deactivated.
Kindly let me know if I need do something else in SAP.

    Hi,
Try MS Project 2007 SP1 instead of SP2.
    This should solve the problem.

  • Integration of a Java Project  with SAP using XI 2.0

    Hi,
I want to integrate one project written in Java with SAP Using XI 2.0 . The data from Java Project will be given in the XML file and the data needs to be posted in SAP .
Also PO data from SAp should be given in XML , which Java Software will read filter it and Update its database.
Can anybody practically guide me as to how should I go about implementing it .
    Thanks in Advance.
    Sanjana

    Suryakant & Sanjana :
Step 1: Create web service using Java (EJBs) and consume this web service in SAP XI.
Step 2: PO data from SAP
    Step 2.i:
In XI 2.0 you cannot expose RFC as a web service
so what you need to do is create a EJB project to call RFC
using JCO and then expose this EJB project as web service.
    Step 2.ii:
Consume the web service created in step 2.i into XI.
    Step 2.iii:
In XI expose then expose this as web service.
    Step 2.iv:
consume the web service created in step 2.iv using Java Application.

  • C project with SAP 4.7?

    Dear All
I just want to know, whether C-project, C-Folder & xRPM can be used with SAP 4.7?
    I heard it's possible only with ECC 5.0 & ECC 6.0.
If by any means, we can use C-project, C-folder & xRPM with SAP 4.7, please do let me know, where can I download these add on components?
    Thanks

    Dear Nishit
    Thanks for responding.
I have SAP 4.7 in my system. And I have cProject suite 3.1.
I extracted the 51030228.ZIP (this was the file I downloaded from service market place), There are several files & folders. One among them is INST folder, which contains INST/DATA folder. In DATA folder I can see a file IN310640.SAR .
I logged on to 000 client in SAP. Then used SAINT. I tried loading IN310640.SAR from front-end (IN310640.SAR this file is copied on to the system hard disk). After a while I got a pop up saying:
The file transfer with the GUI upload can take a long time for files that are more than 10 MB.
The file 'IN310640.SAR' is 53.185.336 bytes size. You must therefore use FTP to transfer
to the application server and unpack it  as described in the 'Load Installation  section of the Online Help.
Do you still want to transfer the file
When I click on YES, nothing happens.
Can you please suggest the method to install this add-on?
    Thanks & Regards
    Amaresh

  • First Day with SAP ABAP Report Developement.

    Hi all ..
I am going to start my career after a year struggle...Advice me how to work with real time system, what are the initial things to consider...Most importantly what are the things SHOULD NOT BE ASKED or done....

    Hi,
All the best for your future,
Even my situation was the same, i mean i just have 1 year of development experience.
I can say you to work on performance use the extended program check , ABAP test cockpit (if configured ), and code inspector.
Try to learn the functional flow of the business process, it will help you in getting the indepth knowledge, and hence will maintain your interest.
Try to be thoroughly learn your development guidelines (standards ), that are specific to your company.

  • De-link PPM Item with SAP Project

    Hello,
Can somebdoy throw a light on what to do in case I want to de-link a PPM-item with SAP project. This situation may rise if I want to change the project actuals going to bucket A to bucket B.As I can not change the relationship of an item with the bucket, I am looking for alternate solution where I can de-link SAP Project with SAP PPM item.
    thank you!
    Regards,
    Mahendra

    Hi Mahendra
If you are meaning to de-link a PS Project from a PPM Item, you can from the Item navigate to the 'Relationships' tab and then on the 'object links'sub-tab select and delete the assignment:
You can also remove a cProject relationship by clicking the 'Related Objects' sub-tab
Your comment that you cannot move an Item to a new Bucket - is this because your business process does not allow you to do so? Because this is definitely possible in the system.
Let me know if you have any further questions as I am not sure I have addressed your question

  • Real PHP project with PHP + SAP

    Hi,
a question for the zend guys - is there ANY live customer/projects that uses SAP + PHP ?
    Thanks

    Hi,
i'm working for a german company "http://www.uniorg.de" and we have implemented some real live projects with SAP R3 and PHP. Some of them handle a large amount of data for international companies.
A lot of this projects are in the scope of webshops. A subset of data is imported into mysql and the web presentation layer is done with php. The realisation of the interface layer depends on the SAP System. Actually, we use SOAP Services for R4.7 Systems, but we also have an own product called "ETS Server" to use web technics like XML under SAP R2.x. We also have a PHP portal framework solution to do similar things like Enterprise Portals, but with Open Source Software.
Sure, the same problems could be done with java (we are also experienced in java development, cause we developed one of the leading CMS Systems for IBM Lotus Domino and also special BSPs/iViews for SAP EP Domino Integration), but there are other reasons beside knowledge.
PHP is fast and efficient cause it is compiled for every supported plattform. Java is working in a sandbox (own memory management) and this make things slow/expensive. For the same functionality you will need more server ressources or a bigger hardware. So comparing memory intensive things PHP is normally 10 times faster than java. Using XML Parsing/Processing boosts the usage of php cause java also implements the parser in java (PHP uses native parsers in C/C++).
Beside this, you need less time to develop php programs cause you don't have to wait for the compiler and don't need a deployment everytime. Since PHP5 you also develop in an java objectoriented approach.
If a have to make an offering for a customer, a php solution will be cheaper than the same solution in java, but there are also reasons not to use PHP:
    - You shouldn't use PHP, if you need a server plattform that is not supported by PHP (Zend).
    - Scalability for high traffic applications must be done by yourself (so do you have the needed knowhow?). Or you have to buy commercial php bundles.
    - You need a highly integrated development environment like Netweaver Developer Studio for developing WebServices.
    - You need Enterprise Services (like EJBs)
    - Money is no reason and you are a consultant
At the moment, we mainly use php for the browser based presentation layer of web applications (especially high traffic sites). There is also no real B2C support by SAP Widgets like BSPs or WebDynpro, cause you can not force the   customer to have special web clients (supported by SAP).
If PHP will be native integrated inside the WAS, it will be interesting to do more performance critical tasks with PHP.
Hope that helps someone to get an idea why to use PHP.
If you need more information, please contact me.

  • First project completed with FCPX Music Video

I just finished up my first project with FCPX
Its a music video for one of my songs.
I shot and edited the video myself with the help of wife and daughter. The video has since gone off to
a video production house, to transfer to broadcast format for here in Australia (digital beta) and its on its way to TV stations for broadcast.
I have very very little experience with video, and had only just gotten FCPX a couple of weeks before along with
the new canon hfs 20 which i used to shoot the video. It was a whirlwind learning curve 8).
I learned plenty about what not to do the next time I make one. 8)
I got some really great help here on the forum and wanted to say thanks, I wouldnt have been able to do it without it.
    www.ozlandmusic.com
is my website where you can see the video.
I have no previous experience as I said with video editing, before FCPX and found the process reasonably intuitive.
It was great to be able to sync the video and audio together..and the effects in FCPX were easy to use, as was keyframing which
i didnt even know existed a couple of weeks back 8)
I really like the product. I am happy with how the video turned out, and I am looking forward to making a better one next time.
    Again thanks for the help
    cheers
    Wiz

Thanks everyone for the kind words.
re first bit of video editing...8)
well, I had used iMovie a couple of times to transfer VHS tapes to DVD and sony home studio once about 4 years ago, and I used windows movie maker once.... but I had never done any "editing" so I take your comment as a compliment.
I literally have no more experience than that.  I guess its a testament to how easy FCPX is to use for someone new. I found the things like keyframing, very intuitive, and I have a strong audio background (logic, cubase, sonar etc) and have run a recording studio for many years. So I applied the same sort of techniques to video ediiting, eg look at other peoples work, and try and work out how they do what they do, and then try and duplicate it. There are a wealth of training videos available, and I watched a heap of those, within the first couple of weeks (you tube videos) about how to do things like keyframing, color correction, effects, transform etc.
I certainly am not trying to portray myself as a newbie, whilst secretly having years of experience.  I honestly only just started and I hope you can take me at face value.
Just wanted to clear that up.
Again thanks everyone for your support and well wishes. Perhaps some day I can repay some of that to the group.
    cheers
    Wiz

  • Career Path with SAP Netweaver

    Hi SDN Gurus,
This is a generic question around career guidence: What should be the typical/practical career graph for a person who intends to work around SAP Netweaver?
Initially, when I started my career, I was put into SAP XI, which I learnt with some enthusiasm and kind of became a fanatic towards the concept of ESOA and Integration. But later I found out that just learning SAP XI isn't enough, I realized that to actually be able to position SAP XI as a solution, I need to understand the whole netweaver architecture and also understand the functionalities of the Systems that will be integrated thtough Netweaver. So I wanted to have an understanding of how ERP works; kind of shifted to functional and worked in Some Retail Projects with SAP Retail, alongside XI. Now I understand, to a fair extent, the functionality of ERP and what benefits can it provide to the business. So, in short, I have XI skills, I functionally understand ERP, I know what can be technically done through ABAP (having done some of the coding myself); Now I want to leverge all these knowledge in positioning the entire Netweaver Platform as a solution to the business. For that, I need a functional understanding of the business problem solving capabilities of Netweaver and a Technical understanding of the Netweaver Architecture for enabling the same. For this, where do I start? How do I grow? I know SDN is the best place to start-off, definitely, but I am just looking for some guidence.
If any of you Gurus can provide me the guidence, that will be of much help.
    Thanks in anticipation!!!
    Sincere Regards,
    Amitabha

    Hi Asif,
Given your educational background, SAP CRM(Customer Relationship Mgmt) & SAP SRM will be a good choice for you to pursue your career in SAP.
Please check out blogs in this community site to have a detailed formal knowledge on these modules.
