Newbie Question--EJB 3.0/JPA deployment to Sun AS 9.0 not working

I am new to EJB 3.0 and JPA technologies, so please excuse me for asking such a rudimentary question.
I am developing a simple Java EE application running on Sun Application Server version 9.0.01, buuild b02-p01. I used the windows installer to set everything up for the server. I am using JDK 1.6.0.02
I am using Eclipse Europa to develop the application. I have an Enteripse application that includes a EJB project and a Web project. I am using ANT to build the application. In the Web project I have placed an index.html file to ensure I can hit the web application berfore I go any farther. The web project has two servlets. In one servlet, I called the Remote Interface for the EJB and performed some operation. This reference is made using annotations. The EJB project has developed several persistence classes and one EJB with a Remote interface. Everything seems to be building correctly. I have used annotations to handle the EJB and Entity portion of the EJB project.
When I deploy the application to the application server, I see no errors in the server log. As a matter of fact, the log file states the ear deployed correctly. When I go look at the admin console, I am not seeing any errors either.
In my my-ejb-jar file I do not include a sun-ejb-jar.xml and the war file does not include a sun-web.xml. The sun-application.xml is not in the ear file. The ear file has the application.xml, The sever is generating the ejb-jar.xml from the annotations and creating the JNDI tree. The war file has the web.xml file.
When trying http://localhost:7182/MyWebContext/index.html for hitting the Web container using my IE 6.0 browser I receive this:
I am not geeting any errors from this URL.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you for taking the time to read my post.

Check the property names for configuring TopLink's internal connection pool. All of the JDBC property names should be prefixed with toplink.
Refer to the TopLink JPA extensions guide for more information.

  • Newbie question about deployment URL

I created a web service using Web Logic 9's service gen. I then successfully deployed it. When I tried calling it, I get a 404. I'm not sure I'm calling the correct URL and failing, or if I'm not even calling the correct URL.
    My URL is
localhost:7001/<contextURI>/<serviceURI>?WSDL (values in angle brackets taken from the service gen).
I always seem to have this trouble when deploying... knowing what the URL should be.
    Any suggestions?

Answering my own question... whilst I deployed the web service, I had not deployed the context. Doing so sorted out my problem.

  • CRIO: Unflatten from string into lvclass not working in deployment

    Hello,
I am working on a problem for some hours now and I need some help.
I am using a cRIO-9022. I need to do some tasks, and I created a couple of classes which contain the parameters and the methods. They contain using dynamic dispatch VIs. I have an array of these classes (all derived from a parent class) which is my "configuration". I am using "flatten to string" and saving those file on disk. "Unflatten from string" is working fine. These file is created on a LV WIndows Application.
I need to use this file on my cRIO: Unflatten from string, and then work with the array of my classes. When running the cRIO Main VI it's working fine. But when building the application and deploying it as startup, it's not working. I am getting:
Error 1403 occurred at Unflatten From String in Gantry CommEngine.vi->RT Main.vi
    Possible reason(s):
LabVIEW:  Attempted to read flattened data of a LabVIEW class. The data is corrupt. LabVIEW could not interpret the data as any valid flattened LabVIEW class.
    What I tried so far:
    - Added the whole lvlib containing the classes and also every single class to "Source files / always included".
    - Created constants of the array (containing the classes) to the VI (forcing LV to include the classes?)
    - Loaded the file from cRIOs flash and also by shared variable
    What else can I do?
    Thanks a lot for support!

I tried to reproduce the matter, but couldn't.
I attached my example to the post.
    What it does:
It creates a class with only a string a bool and a number. This class oblect is saved to C:/somename.xml. The number is a random number.
In the second case the same file is read and the number broadcasted to a variable.
It worked quite fine building it as a startupexe.
Nothing else was necessary. Does it work for you?

  • Two questions; ejb tmp jar files what are they? and web deployment procedur

after the deployment of my ejb in the directory there are two files, tmp 4762 and tmp 4759 jar files. The deployment was successfull however i could not run niether the web nor the client modueles.
    what are these tmp.... files?
could someone expalin this for me.
    second.
I am a bit confused about the deployment of WAR files or web application for ejbs.
Well, in the tutoral there are not much ejb examples with web applications. the only example is the converter with one index.jsp. And there is the Duke banks.
In the converter as far as i understand to deploy the converter war file we only need to specify the context root
but when deploying the duk bank WAR file there a alot of stuff to be done alias, context parameter, url patterns and so on
would someone explain to me what are the main steps for a web application deployment?
    i appreciate your assistance
    thanks

what are these tmp.... files? These temp files are created by the App Server. Not sure why they are there...
would someone explain to me what are the main steps
for a web application deployment? Refer to your other post... I gave all the steps I can remember.

  • EJB Newbie Question

I am totally new to EJB and I have gone through Sun's tutorial at http://java.sun.com/j2ee/tutorial/1_3-fcs/doc/GettingStarted.html and I've got everything in the tutorial working with the Sun J2EE server installed on my computer. They teach you how to write a bean and call it from a client application and from a .JSP page using the web server installed with J2EE on port 8080. Now, I want to call it from my ColdFusionMX page using the CFMX web server and I can't figure it out. Can anybody help me? I'm not sure what I need to do in CFMX to get the Java bean to work. I realize this is also a question for the ColdFusion community, but I'm sure connecting from ColdFusion is not very much different than from other languages.
I created a very watered down ColdFusion version of the JSP page provided by Sun in the EJB tutorial. However, it looks like the JNDI lookup is not working for some reason. I think the problem is that I need to specify that the lookup will occur on my JNDI port, which is 10500 on my local host. It looks like it is trying to use a ColdFusion JNDI service that does not have the EJB installed or something like that. I would appreciate some code samples of how to get this to work. I can't find any good sites that give you a walk through of how this is supposed to work.
Keep in mind this does work when I call the .JSP version of this page through the J2EE web server. The trick is for me to get this working in ColdFusion.
    Thanks everybody!

  • Newbie question (I think you can answer me)

    Hello.
I am a newbie about EJB. But I am teacher of a Java course and I have
introduced EJB to my students. I have said them that EJB is good for big
applications but, when the application is small, is overkill (I read this in
several books). But then a student has asked me (I don't know how to
exppress the sentence in English) "How big has to be the application in
order to take advantage of EJB?". I mean: EJB is overkill for an application
with two concurrent users. But, if concurrent users are thousand, it is
necessary. Where is the limit between two situations? Of course, there is no
exact limit but it must exist some QUANTITATIVE parameter.
I had no reply for my student. Good question but no answer. I said that I
    will look for this information.
I am getting mad looking for this information in Internet. I have seen no
studies that study such a basic question. Even it has been impossible to
find "a ballpark estimate". I seen EJB FAQs, pages, books about EJBs, but I
found nothing. Any information of this kind would help me a lot.
So, please, can anybody help me?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,

    Hi Pau.
How big has to be the application in order to take advantage of EJB?There is no measurement standard for developers to decide the utilizationof EJB
in their applications. It is clearly unnecessary to develop a nonenterprise application
for only few ( as you mentioned 2 ) routing users with EJBs.
The question is more likely why using EJBs. Few major considerationslisted below:
    >
    1) A real production internet application is getting to rely on anapplication
container ( for example: #1 application server WebLogic ) to handleunderly resources,
backend works and Object life cycles.
By using EJBs, EJB container handles the sophisticate backend jobs foryou.
Developers may only focus on their business logics.
    2) A real production internet application may be also a combination ofsome reusable
logical components. To reduce the application development hardness, modeled and
specification oriented plugable components such as EJBs may be used. Thatis also
why the EJB component vendors exist.
    3) There are concepts of scalability and high availability in realproduction.
EJB components can be easily deployed to be scaled and load balanced inthe EJB
containers in a cluster. Fully implemented Weblogic Cluster is a goodexample.

There may be other advantages of using EJB as well.
    Thanks.

Check the property names for configuring TopLink's internal connection pool. All of the JDBC property names should be prefixed with toplink.
Refer to the TopLink JPA extensions guide for more information.

  • WebDynPro Newb question

    Hey All,
I need to begin working with WebDynPro. I have a couple of Newb questions:
    1) I need to jump right in fairly quickly, so can anyone suggest any good documentation that could help me get the basics down about working with WebDynPro?
    2) I loaded a Sample WebDynPro project into NetWeaverDev Studio, but I am unable to export this to our instance of EP on our Development Server. For a .par file its easy to do exports, but I can't for the life of me find where i go in NetWeaverDev Studio to do an export of a WebDynPro project. When I goto export in the WebDynPro perspective, it appears to only want to allow me to export locally, but I need to push to a different server. Can anyone help me with this?
I appreciate any advice and suggestions. Thanks All!!
    Take care,
    -Kevin

    Hey Rich,
I have the Engine setup, but I do not get prompted for the SDM password, do I need to configure that somewhere? I get the following error when trying to deploy:

    Thanks,

  • Newbie questions on fms and actionscript 3

Ok, like I said I'm a newbie, but I do understand the differance between ssas and as3. Not all, but all most everything I see written in SSAS can be writen into a external AS3 file. This leads me to quite a few questions I'm hoping you kind people can shed some light on for me.
    1)  What is the advantage of writing a SSAS file over an external AS3 file?
    2) Can I write an .asc file in AS3 or do I have to use AS1? Please understand I'm using tuts from fmsguru.com and the books "Learning Flash Media Server" (pdf) and "Programming Flash Communication Server". I'm not a javascript programmer so nothing I do in AS1 seems to make any sence while everything I do in AS3 does. It may not seem like it to you people that are programmers, but to those of us that aren't, AS1 and AS3 are miles apart.
    3) kind of off topic, but a security question. I'm not a "hacker" and don't like the jerks that are. My question is on external AS / SSAS files and swf files. When my fla is compiled into a swf does my external AS files remain external? I assume they do, but then what is the threat of the swf being decompiled? In most projects I would do I could care less if somebody had access to my fla as long as they don't have my actionscript files.
I don't know. Maybe on questions one and two I'm getting confused becasue I'm using out dated material. Again I assume that even though fms was built off of the javascript engine it should be able to read and execute my AS3 file. Other wise what was the point of the evolution of actionscript into a fully functional programming language?
Thanks for any help you might have...

    1) I did not get this question correcly - for that matter SSAS can only be in AS1 - so i dont see reason comparing them
    2) It has to be AS1
    3) if you doing "include" stuff - i think code would go into compiled swf and proper decompiler would give you the code.
Last para - Server-side engine understands only AS1 so it wont be able to read and understand your AS3 file.

  • EJB 3.0 JPA Entities and preserving user identities

    Hello all,
I've been reading about some of the techniques available to Oracle DB developers to ensure that some sense of a user's real identity is maintained in multitier applications (<http://download-uk.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/network.102/b14266/apdvprxy.htm>).
I was wondering if either of the methods described (proxy authentication or the use of the CLIENT_IDENTIFIER attribute) could be used in conjunction with EJB 3.0 JPA Entity beans (in an OC4J container).
If so, I would really appreciate any pointers to useful documentation! I've read something about the use of proxy authentication with TopLink (<http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/ias/toplink/doc/11110/relnotes/toplink-relnotes.html#BABHEFEF>), but I'm not sure how this relates to the use of Entity beans.
    Many thanks,
    Alistair.

Just to close this thread out...
Under another thread: <JPA Entities with Proxy Authentication / OC4J bug it was determined that this is NOT possible with OC4J 10g, but should be supported by 11g.

There are two scenarios one of which is working and the other is not. The details are below:
    Scenario 1: (Working)
There is an ejb module in the ear (say ModA) which has two session beans (SessionA and SessionB having Remote interfcaes RemoteIntA and RemoteIntB).
There is another ejb module in the ear (say ModB) which has few more session beans.
Now I want to add an ejb which will extend from SessionA.
    So, I did following changes:
    i. added a remote interface in ModB - RemoteIntPA implements RemoteIntA
ii. added session bean SessionPA extends SessionA implements RemoteIntPA
iii. added ejb related annotations in SessionPA and removed the annotations from SessionA (i.e., SessionA is just a normal class by itself)
Now in the application.xml I declare both modules (ModA and ModB) as ejb modules.
I deploy the application everything works fine.
    Scenario 2: (Not Working)
For some reason, I didn't required SessionB in ModA (which was the only ejb bean left in that module as SessionA was converted to normal java class). So I removed SessionB and RemoteIntB.
Now as there are no ejb beans in ModA, I cannot define this as ejb module in application.xml and hence I defined it as java module.
Now if I deploy the same application, I get the exception mentioned above.
I think it has to do with the classpath issue. But how is that the classpath issue is arising when I declaring a module as java and not when I declare it as ejb. I have this module in classpath of ModB. So it doesn't matter what type of module it is.
    Am I missing something?
Please help me in this regards.

    java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: trivnet/service/svams/SVAMService
The JAR with the class trivnet/service/svams/SVAMService is not in the classpath.

  • Total Newbie Question ... Sorry :-(

I know it's a windows thing, and I am now converted to Mac but I gotta know this because it's doing my head in. It's a complete stupid green gilled newbie question.
When installing new programs on a Mac can you create shortcuts to the programs on the Dock? I did what I THOUGHT it would be, i.e I made an Alias and stuck it in the dock, but on rebooting my Mac later on, in place of the shortcuts where 3 question marks which when clicked on did absolutely nothing???
    Help?

You aren't installing something from a dmg file are you? The dmg is a disk image – kind of a virtual CD. So when you double click the dmg and then get the little disk/hardrive/custom icon on your desktop that is the same as if you had mounted a CD. You then need to drag the application off of that "CD" into your application folder. Then it is truly installed.
You can then "eject" the icon your your desktop. This is what happens when you shutdown and without remounting the image your dock shortcut can't find the original.
    Just a thought.
