Nikon NEF Files will not Open in Photoshop CS2
In OS Leopard w/Aperture 2, there was never a problem opening RAW .NEF Files.
Now with Snow Leopard and Aperture 3...I get a message that the format is unrecognizable.
My system and PS2 are fully updated to current versions.

You are correct in the RAW decoding engine used in Camera Raw (would be version 3.x in the CS2).
As you know, Adobe Camera Raw is included with each new release of Photoshop since CS came about. However, they generally only update the current version of ACR for new camera models.
The work-around (Adobe solution) for using older versions of ACR / PS is to convert the RAW files to DNG files using their free Adobe DNG converter, which allows compatibility for newer camera models (same solution offered to many with new unsupported cameras in Aperture).
Not sure whether this is the problem for the OP though, as the opening sentence indicates successful use with AP2 and 10.5?
Note - not sure what Adobe will do overall with Lightroom updates as they have been offering those at the same time as the ACR updates. LR3 and CS5 should clear some of this up.

"Recovered" CR2 files will not open in Photoshop CS6
My son recently completed the National Three Peaks Challenge. Regrettably, having taken loads of pictures, he discovered that one of the CF cards was corrupt. He and his fellow climbers have now paid a company (a considerable sum) to recover these photos and they are all showing as CR2 files. Unfortunately, neither Photoshop or any other program that he has (including Preview) will not open them. The images from the uncorrupted files are fine.
As you can imagine, he is desperate to get these images back so if anyone has any bright ideas as to where we go from here we would really appreciate it. Thanks in anticipation.Thanks for your suggestion, normfb, which I passed on to my son. He has come back with the following answer -
"Tried the DNG converter, didn't even recognise there was a file in the folder I told it to look in!
The issue is that no programs be it Photoshop, that DNG converter, Lightroom or Preview are able to recognise that file format."

Lightroom 5.5 files will not open in Photoshop 2014
Hi. Just updated Lightroom to 5.5, and Photoshop to CC 2014, using the CC updater. Now, when in Lightroom, Command E, or the menu selection, will not open my files in Photoshop. Any ideas?

NEF ( Nikon RAW file ) will not open in Preview
I use a Nikon camera - and in the last ~3 weeks the NEF files no longer are displayed in Preview or the finder. Older NEF photos can be displayed.
Has something changed??
How do I correct this problem??There are discussion threads about this problem in both OSX 10.4 and 10.5. I have the same problem, i.e., older NEF files open but more recent ones do not. No one seems to have an answer. I've followed advice about deleting the aperture .plist file from the library and re-booting. Some suggested it might have something to do with down loading directly from the camera, but I use a card reader. NEF files load fine into Aperture but won't open in Preview. Since I still use 10.4.11, thought going to 10.5 might solve the issue. But it seems not. So now as I get ready to upgrade the OS, I am wondering if quick look will let me view NEF files. My hunch is no. Guess it must be an OS issue which I hope gets fixed soon.

My D5200 NEF files do not open in Photoshop 14
I have Nikon D5200, and according to Adobe, its Raw NEF files should open in Camera Raw 7.3 or later. However I have Camera Raw 8 in my photoshop 14 and it still says cannot open files, and suggests me to upgrade the plugin.
However, when i try to upgrade, it says i have latest plugins installed, which is correct.
I also have installed DNG converter 8.3 but it is also not detecting any raw files.

Thank youAs Curt Y mentioned, either your ACR plugin is in the wrong location, or you have more than one ACR plugin for your version of Photoshop and they are conflicting.
With the DNG coverter, it is important to understand that DNG converters only works on folders that contain raw files.
Select the folder and then convert. This will convert all the raw files within the folder.
If you ry to use DNG converter to open the folder to select individual files this won't work.
Select the folder not the individual files. -
D7100, .nef files will not open, batch rename naming files differently
I recently purchased the D7100/Nikon and I am having problems opening the nef files in Bridge and Photoshop CS6 (even after updating – Raw 8.4) and also renaming the files. Lightroom 4.4, no problem.
I also tried batch renaming the files, and Bridge is not keeping the .jpg and .nef files consistent as with my old camera (D90). Also, it is creating a new date on the .nef file, rather than keeping it to the day it was shot.
Old way:

20140322_LasVegas_0165.nef
NOW:
20140322_LasVegas_0165.jpg
20140413_LasVegas_0166.nef
I do use the DNG converter to convert the .nef files, and keep all file names consistent (.jpg, .nef, .dng).
Is something lacking in the updates for Bridge/Photoshop for this camera to view the .nef files? Is there anything I can do in Bridge to fix the Batch Renaming? I really do not want to go to each .nef file and rename each one individually. Help!You probably forgot to include the extension .dng or renamed with an extra dot (.) in the filename. Be surr to have only 1 dot with the three letter extension dng at the end (. dng)
You can use Bridge for that again to rename and use the dng extension -
D800 RAW files will not open in Photoshop CS6
I have just installed the CS6 upgrade to Photoshop CS4 Extended, but now the software will not read the RAW files from my D800.
I have followed Adobe's instructions to check that I have the correct RAW plug-in (7.0.0.308) which I have. I have uninstalled the software and reinstalled the software without success. I do not want to convert my RAW files into DNG files, so I have ignored that step.
The 'Open in Photoshop' instruction in Lightroom 4 does not open my D800 RAW files either, although the files can be opened in Lightroom 4 OK.
Any idea what the problem is?Brilliant! ACR 7.1 Beta allows D800 RAW files to be opened within CS6 and it also allows Photoshop 4 to open D800 RAW files in Photoshop CS6.
It says that the Beta version will expire on 30/6/2012 after which it will keep advising on a daily basis although it will still work. Any idea, what happens next? Does Adobe issue a proper ACR 7.1 and distribute it as part of the update service? -
DNG converted files will not open in Photoshop CS
I'm attempting to use DNG converter on a RAW file from a Canon G9 camera. This camera was recently added to the list of cameras supported by Adobe Camera Raw. I'm trying to avoid spending 200 bucks to update PS CS to CS3. Additionally, my Mac is running OS 10.4.11. I understand that this OS will not run PS CS3. What I need to know is whether or not my PS CS will work with files converted by Adobe DNG. The camera raw feature of CS does open the raw files of a much older Canon G3 that I own. Ideas, anyone?

No version of Photoshop opens raw or DNG files, only ACR does, hosted by Photoshop. But you do need at least version 2.4 of ACR, which was the first to support DNGs. -
MOV, and MP3 files will not open in photoshop CS6
I'm studying Photoshop at home using Pearson's " Class in a Book", from Adobe. I'm now stuck in Chapter 10, editing Videos, because I cannot open two files needed to proceed with the next excercise. I'm not able to open 3 of the 9 files in Photoshop, even tried to drag, change format, etc. All the other files with formats like MP4 and JPG have no problem opening, only those with MP3 & MOV extensions. I Should note that I can open all the files directly from windows file explorer or using Bridge, through Quicktime. I need to open in Photoshop so I can do the exercises. Please can someone help me? Bellow, is the message i get when I try to move the file to Photoshop.

This just started, I can't open DNG files in photoshop when launching from within lightroom. Not sure how to fix this. the dng files launch fine from bridge.

I don't know what I am doing wrong, but my NEF files will not open in Bridge or ACR. If I click on the NEF icon that is shown in bridge it opens it in Photoshop but I cannot view the thumbnails in Bridge or use ACR with those files. Any suggestions?

If you used the installer, then you cannot possibly have the plug-in in the wrong place. Disregard the other poster's misdirection.
For the record, the correct path is as follows:
Command-Click on thumbnail to see full-size image in a new tab
What you need to do is Purge the Cache through the Tools menu in Bridge: Tools > Cache > Purge Cache for folder "xxxyyyzzz" for the offending folder(s).
DO NOT use the global Purge Cache command in Bridge Preferences; it's broken.
