No audio from MacBook headphone jack

For all of you wondering why your headphone jack stopped working and start thinking is hardware related, i've got a solution i wanted to post here.
After the last update i made ,i found out that on system preferences u don't have a headphone output until you plug the earphones, so check that when u plug them the mute checkbox is unchecked since the speakers and headphones volume choices are different from each other, so while in one is working u plug the headphones and then its mute for that one, what makes u think is not working.
Have fun

Brand new out of the box, this thing has a faulty headphone out. No sound through headphone, itunes stops, pointer turns into spinning circle. Audio/Midi setup & sound preferences says that it's a "Digital Out" not a "Headphone out". I've been waiting on software updates or whatever, but nothing's happening.
Does it also have a red light coming out of the hole? I hear sometimes the dual headphone jack/mini-optical out gets stuck in digital optical mode. Something about trying an object in the hole to clear it.

  • How do I play audio from my headphone jack and internal speakers?

How do I play audio from my headphone jack and internal speakers at the same time ? I have a splitter for my audio jack so that when i connect up my second monitor I can have it so it also plays audio as well as anything else i have connected into the jack but how do i let the internal speakers emit sound at the same time?

    Hello,
If you mean the internal speakers in your Mac, you can't play audio through them at the same time you have anything plugged into the headphone jack. When you plug something into the headphone jack, it disconnects the internal speakers.

  • Red light from macbook headphone jack

So, after using external speakers, my sound stopped working...and the audio jack was shining red light. I looked through old threads on this site and saw that there were several different ways to fix the problem (I used a toothpick and it worked..) Only- my volume is now working fine without headphones- but there is still a red light. All the responses I red said that the light would turn off when volume started working....why is my volume working and the light still on?
Does it matter that there is the red light, if my volume is working fine...?
    thanks!

    meh!
Excuse my lack of tech knowledge- but all I was using the headphone jack for, was for headphones and for connecting my macbook to external speakers. So, I didn't know the port was used for anything....else?
Last thing- I don't remember when I first saw the red light anyway. I was using my computer in the dark and I saw it...and actually thought that (silly me) it was such a convenient thing to have (a shining red light) specifically so we could see where to insert the headphones or whatever if it were dark. (HA!) But then recently my volume has been getting messed up if I leave something in the headphone jack for too long....
If it isn't too much of a problem I wont worry. There are worse things.. thank you!

  • No sound from MacBook headphone jack until the cable is plugged in and -out

Hey there! If I connect speakers (iPod Hi-Fi) to my shut down MacBook and then start the MacBook, there's no sound neither form the MacBook nor from the speakers.
If I plug out the cable the sound comes from the MacBook as usual, if I plug it in again the Hi-Fi works regularly. How come?

    Hi,
The HDMI sound may disable the other sound therefore you need to disable HDMI sound (remember put back if you wish to use it). Please check this video:

For example, in my machine I can just disable HDMI sound from this area:

  • Digital Audio Noise from the Headphone Jack

I have been searching for a while to see if anyone else has this problem.
I have random faint digital noise (bleeps, bloops, and whirls) from my headphone jack. This happens regardless of application. I can get it going good by just tossing the volume bar back and forth on the sound pref panel.
I have considerably less of this from the line out but still detectable noise.
I have disconnected everything non essential from the Mac Pro and my power outlet are reduced to a minimum. (monitor and Mac)
I have tried numerous headphones including Etymotic ER•6 and Sony MDR-7505.
This has always been present in 10.4.7 and 10.4.8. Like I said, its faint in volume - but it gets annoying!
I have read the following below and believe these do not apply to me because this is not an external powered device.

I found out today what is causing the noise on my Mac Pro!
Our next door neighbor has a really high power HAM radio that I am picking up static and transmissions from. I thought I was going insane when I heard weird voices coming out via my headphones. I know it is our neighbor because I heard him relay his name and location. Had to get my wife to listen to prove I was not going crazy.
Here is the weird thing. I do not have AirPort or BlueTooth on the MacPro...so I cannot figure out how the transmission is permeating the Mac. Could it be a shielding issue on some internal component?
    Thanks!

  • Getting audio from macbook to TV

    Hi-
I am connecting my video from macbook to Olevial LCD via VGA, I get picture fine.
I'm using a Mini RCA to connect the audio, from my macbook headphone jack to the tv's audio inputs (not composite, the ones right next to the VGA input on the tv).
However, I still cannot get audio on the TV.
I've gone into audio settings on tv but there is nothing that would help.
    Am I missing something?
    Thanks

When folks try to run speakers directly with a Mac Headphone output, they are often surprised to discover they will will need a small amplifier to run speakers. The sound output level is very low. Great for headphones. Not great for speakers.
If the input on your TV goes directly to the speakers without being amplified, the sound level will be very low. Can you use the red and white RCA inputs? Some users report better results with those, if present.

  • Getting Audio from Macbook to Westinghouse TV

I have a Westinghouse LCD 32" Flat Screen TV (Model # SK-32H240S), and I am trying to hook my Macbook up to the TV to watch videos from my laptop. I have an HDMI cable and the video works perfectly; however, I cannot get the audio to come through for the life of me. I bought a standard stereo audio cable (3.5mm to 2 RCAs), which I ran from the headphone jack on the Macbook to the audio ports on the back of the TV. I tried every audio port available, and could not get sound to come through with any of them. I went into the settings on the TV and told it that the device using the HDMI input was a PC. Still got nothing. Can anyone help???

These are probably silly questions, but I tend to go from easy solution to more difficult.
    1. Is the volume on the Mac turned up?
    2. Have you tried you're output jack with a pair of headphones to verify the port is working?
    3. Make sure you are using the headphone port and not the microphone port?
    4. Check System Preferences>Sound>Output and see what you have listed there.
    5. If you have one of the later MacBooks with the headphone/microphone combo port, you may need a different cable.

  • Video out from the headphone jack died... 30gb 5g

    Hi all.
So, I have a 30gb 5g ipod. I have played video out of the headphone jack to a tv for years now. I have the apple version of the video out cable. So, recently, the video stopped playing. The audio plays. YES, it is set to tv out = on, NTSC. This worked fine. Now no video. Video DOES play on the ipod itself. And, I bought an expensive dock cable that has composite out and that does work for video. So, I am just wondering what happened to my video from the headphone jack. I guess I could try to get it fixed, but is it worth it? Any ideas would be appriciated! Thanks!!

OK, I was DETERMINED to figure this one out...simply because it USED to work...
Somehow (last 'update' I assume)...my 'TV out' was turned off.
On my 80GB model, it was under menu > videos > video settings > TV Out
I just turned it 'on' and I was back in business...of course it doesn't make up for last weekend, when I was out of town trying to get the darn thing to work...but at least it works now.
    Hope this helps.

  • How can I remove the background sound from the headphone jack for my MacBoo

for my MacBook Air problem adding music intensifier (Panasonic ST-HT1000) to give it an unpleasant sound background that sounds like a whiz, it's not so loud, but it is an unpleasant .. after a short time can get used to, but the fizz does not pass, however, believe that it is a big problem.
Further I notice that when MacBookAir disconnected from the charger, it remains quieter sound.
At first thought that the headphone jack (3.5 mm Headphone:
Connection: 1/8-Inch Jack) or wiere have problem, but tried 3 different cables, but that does change enything, the problem remains.
When I added iPhonu3GS playing - the background sound were not, then everything is OK!

There is no way to bring that up unless you have it typed in a document. You can use My Support Profile to find a list of serial numbers that have been purchased or registered with your Apple ID.

  • MacBook headphone jack problems

I am experiencing problems with the headphone jack on my MacBook. The headphones I'm using work fine on other devices. When I plug them into the MacBook jack the output (under Sound Preferences) changes from "internal speakers" to "headphones," yet there is no sound. This is regardless of the application I am using, or the volume level. Occasionally, if I leave the headphones in the jack for a protracted period -- like overnight -- they will start working. But the problem always returns. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

I had experienced no output from my headphone jack and thought I may have to get it serviced. I would set up my wireless headphones and streamed xm radio everynight going to bed. One day I had thought my wireless system transmitter was inop, and tried other headphones, result no output.
My final solution was to check out postings here and determined it need to be reset. As per instructions, I removed the battery, and held down the power button. I re-installed the battery, fired it up and everything is working fine.

  • TX2000 no sound from front headphone jacks

Hi everyone, Ive started this because I have a major problem with my pavilion tx2000. it is not outputting any sound from the front headphone jacks, it was working okay on windows 7 64 bit but one good day without any aparent reason it stopped working I mean, I used to plug my headphones and immediatly the laptop speakers shout and I coud hear music from any of the two front headphone jacks but one day I did it and the speaker didnt shout and I couldnt hear anything from the headphones, assuming that the headphones were the problem I plugged another headphones that I knew were working fine with the same result.
I was using windows 7 default drivers then I updated the drivers from the official realtek site (I thnk version R267) with no effect, then I installed linux and plugged the headphones, to my surprise audio were outputting from both, the laptop speakers and the headphones, after some configurations I managed linux to output audio only from the headphones but I have to change it manually if I wanted the laptop speakers to work, I then reinstalled windows 7 64 with the updated driivers from realtek, to my surprise realtek audio manager will pop up a message saying "you just plugged and audio device" BUT ONLY IF I PLUG SOMETHING TO THE MICROPHONE JACK!!!!! otherwise it won´t say anything even if I plug my headphones to any of the both headphone jacks, my assumption is that somehow the headphone jacks lost its sensibility and are not detectng the headphones and as so they wont route the audio signal through them, also Ive read on forums that I could change something in the realtek audio manager as "disable front audio jacks" or something but i can´t see that option anywhere in any of the various versions of drivers I´ve tried on the various OSes Ive tried, Also in some point I did notice a red ligth coming out from the first headphone jack, I assumed it was spidf signal or something.
What im thiking is that this is hardware related, that somehow the jacks lost sensibility and cant detect my headphones, the question here is this: I dont mind routing the audio from the laptop speaker to the headphone jacks manually (I mean with some script or something), but is there any way to do so In windows, In linux I could but in windows I just cant seem too get it to work without windows detecting my headphones automatically, or do I have to change the whole front panel in my laptop, it is offcourse out of warranty and I don´t want to keep spending money on this as this is quite an old machine wich Ive invested way too much.
    THANK YOU ALL IN ADVANCE.

NO sound from front headphone jacks.
    No hardware changes made.

    Oh and one more thing:
In the Audio tab in Sounds and Audio Devices in Control Panel, it has this option of
    "Use only default devices"
Is it OK to check that?
Does that mean that if I choose Audigy 2 for the sound playback and etc. options, it would "lock" the default as Audigy 2?
Because as I said, I don;t want to go back and forth switching from onboard to Audigy over and over.
I just want Audigy as my sound, and be able to use the headphone jack on the front bevel of my computer.

  • Audio in through headphone jack, out through USB?

Hi community, hoping you all can help me solve an audio puzzle.  I currently play iTunes through a USB digital audio convertor connected to powered speakers.  The system works great (especially with the "remote" app to control it).  However, I would like to play my TV's audio through the same USB device.  I have an oldish macbook pro.  I've confirmed that the headphone jack can be used as input and made this selection in system preferences, where I have also selected the DAC as the output.  The TV out is plugged in to the macbook headphone jack and I can see the audio registering on the little meter in the audio input preferences but I cannot get it to pass through to my speakers.  I've reset the PRAM and SMC and I've fiddled with audio MIDI setup to no avail.  Perhaps this just isn't possible but I'd thougth I'd ask for help here before I gave up.
Oh, and before someone suggests it, the DAC only has USB input, no other options.
    Thanks.

Have you tried using another HeadPhones ?

  • How can i stream video and audio from macbook air to my tv?

how can i stream video and audio from macbook air to my tv?

Wirelessly: you need an AirPlay - enabled device such as an AppleTV.
Wired: if your TV has an HDMI port, you need a Thunderbolt to HDMI adapter such as this one:
Mini DisplayPort to HDMI® Adapter w/ Audio Support
If your TV does not have an HDMI port you will need a converter that will convert HDMI input to whatever input your TV requires.
