No audio in left ear!

Hi, I just received my brand new ipod G5 and there's no audio in the left ear. I tried with the apple ear buds, my speakers and other headphones, and same thing no audio in left ear bud. sometimes there is audio (like out of the blue or just fluke) but then it'll disappear!! help! i don't know what to do and the tech support isn't 24/7! anyway have the same problem? and what will apple support do when i call them (when they open!), will they ship me a new one? i hope so and one that is no defective! any ideas?

I totally understand. If it were me, I would try every headphone, computer speakers, real speakers and device I could think of to make sure before I would have to send it back! A "Y Adapter" is where you have 2 headphone jacks and it goes into the audio port of the iPod or any other thing that has a port (portable DVD players, CD players, PSP, etc). It's basically a splitter, so that 2 people can hear the device it's plugged into. Sometimes people have that plugged in and the audio will cut out. You don't have that plugged in, so don't worry about that.
I'm not sure what will happen on the return end. I would first call tech support to see if they can fix it over the phone and then if they can't, they'll tell you what to do next. Apple discussions are usually just regular people, so the majority of us wouldn't know. Hope it works out for you Helen!

  • Vocals on M-audio fasttrack panned all the way to left (only in left ear)

    I record vocals using an m-audio fasttrack. When i listen back to the vocals they only play in the left ear, in other words, they are panned all the way to the left. When i turn the pan knob all the way to the right, i can't hear the vocals, and when i turn it back to the middle, it only plays in the left ear again.
    anybody know the problem?

  • Left ear piece stopped working w/my iPod mini

    Just like the subject line says, the left ear piece stopped working with my iPod mini after using a regular pair of black headphones for a couple weeks. Gee, this must mean your headphones were garbage? Well I purchased a pair of $5 ear phones that didn't work well at all with my iPod. Gee, I keep buying cheap ear phones. How about purchasing the authentic Apple ear buds? Well that's exactly what I did 3 weeks ago. After purchasing the ear buds for $30 that were made by Apple with the assumption it must work just fine, I tested them and found out they didn't work, however I plugged them into other devices and it worked just fine. I exchanged the pair and same problem.
    So yeah, something is effed up with my iPod where it won't play any audio in the left ear bud, however when I plug my ear phones or headphones into the slot on the iPod about half way in then I can hear the music just fine on both sides.
    What do I do? Am I stuck with Apple's problem with their product for good? Can they do something about this problem? Is there any steps I can follow to open the 'pod and fix it myself?

    This has helped people hearing warbled sound through their earbuds. Maybe it could help you, too?
    "Hello everybody,
    I have found a solution for my problem, I hope it can help you guys too. I found this following link to get my ipod open:
    http://www.answerbag.com/q_view.php/30180
    When I opened it I discovered that the connection to the little print (?) where you plug in your headphones was loose (it is a piece with both the headphone plug and the hold function). So I simply reconnected it, and voila, my ipod was fixed! Good luck!"
    "I had the same problem and fixed it by following the procedures to opening the mini to replace the battery. Then you will see the CB that the headphones plugs into. This CB (circuit board) plugs into the main ( mother board )
    Mine had worked it's way partly out. I pushed this plug back on securely and the headphones now work. Hope this helps. You can find the instructions for changing the battery by googling changing the battery on a mini IPOD."

  • MacBook Pro plays music only in left ear bud

    My macbook only plays music in the left ear bud. It does so with different earphones, I have tried 3 and the same problem occurs everytime. The weird thing is, when I test it on Audio preferences, the sounds works fine. System sounds, like the alarm or a new message sound, I hear them in both. But when I play a  movie, a video on youtube or just music in iTunes the music is mainly on the left side, on the right one it is very soft. What is wrong?

    To rule out a software problem try the following:
    - A reset. Nothing will be lost
    Reset iPod touch:  Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
    least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Restore from backup
    - Restore to factory defaults/new iPod
    If you still have the problem then it is likely that the headphone jack is defective.
    Apple will exchange your iPod for a refurbished one for:

  • Only getting audio in one ear?

    Hello,
    I am a singer/songwriter using adobe with hopes of capturing a live recording of myself singing and playing guitar at the same time. I want to then upload the file to youtube. I have one condensor microphone (Bluebird by blue microphones) hooked up into an interface and when I playback the recording captured I am only hearing audio in my left ear. I am operating on a mac with osx and using adobe premiere elements 11. From what I read, I need to convert the stereo to mono but I don't think this is possible to do on this program. I have read where I need to hit fill left/ fill right but I've been unable to find those features. If anyone knows anything or has any recommendations for how to hear audio in two ears when you have captured in with one microphone then please help!

    i have iphone 6 headphones and the left ear bud is really low now , i have only had them for 3 almost 4 weeks, if i take them to the apple store will they replace them with new ones ? ( my phone is from verizon by the way)

    Hi marysol aguilar,
    I'm sorry to hear that you are having issues with your new iPhone. If the issue appears to be limited to the included Apple headphones (i.e. other headphones appear fine), you should be able to have them serviced as outlined on the following page:
    About Apple accessories
    Apple accessories (including the power adapter and Apple iPhone cases) are also covered by Apple's One Year Limited Warranty. Online service might not be available through Apple for all accessories. Contact your carrier, Apple, or an Apple Authorized Service Provider for details.
    Read Apple’s One Year Limited Warranty for iPhone Accessories

    Note: If the issue isn't limited to a single set of headphones, it may instead be due to an inadvertantly adjusted ballance setting, as noted on this page:

  • DR-BTN200's right ear is louder and left ear part makes weird sound when the volume is high

    I bought DR-BTN200 a while ago and I've been feeling that the right ear part is louder than left ear part.
    Not because of my hearing; if I switched R and L around, I still hear left (original right) louder than the right (original left).
    Also if I increase the volume, the left ear part makes a high pitch sound when singer/talker/instrument makes an emphasis in their voice/sound.
    Is this a common problem? I didn't drop it at all or anything and I just keep the headphone in the part of bag where I am supposed to put laptop in. From outside I don't see any damage on it either.
    Any help is appreciated.

    Please follow the steps here to troubleshoot the issue. If you need further assistance, please post your inquiry on Sony France Community here. Thanks!

  • I'm trying to mix a guitar track so it is heard in the right and left ear and not in the center

    I'm trying to mix a guitar track in GarageBand.  I'd like to have the same guitar track heard in the right and left ear.  When I mix it that way, the guitar comes from the center.  Is there a way to place this track so that it appears to come from both the left and right side?

  • When i plug the earphone in my mini ipad i cannot hear the sound in my left ear

    when i plug the earphone to my mini ipad, i cannot hear any sound in my left ear

    - Do the heradphones work OK in other devices? Do other headpohones work OK in the iPad?
    - Make sue the plug is fully inserted in the jack
    - Try cleaning out/blowing out the headphone jack. Try inserting/removing the plug a dozen times or so.
    Try the following to rule out a software problem
    - Reset the iPad. Nothing will be lost
    Reset iPad: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at

    - Reset all settings
    Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
    All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup
    - Restore to factory settings/new iPad.
    - Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store. Seems you have a bad headphone jack.

  • Music only plays from left ear

    Recently my ipod has only been playing music/sound from movies out of only the left ear from any pair of headphones. I initially thought it was the headphones so naturally tried another pair but it's not the case.
    Whilst on holiday last week I was experimenting and found that if I really push the headphones into the socket then music plays from both. Another option was that if the headphones weren't plugged in all the way (about half way) then music plays from both ears.
    Is there a solution to this, or is it a hardware problem with the ipod?

    yes, it is a hardware issue i.e. bad contact
    Consider setting up a mail-in repair for your iPod http://depot.info.apple.com/ipod/
    Or visit your local Apple Retail Store http://www.apple.com/retail/
    In case your iPod is no longer covered by the warranty and you want to find a second repairing company, you can try iPodResQ or ifixit at your own risk

  • Sound from iPhone 5 only left ear

    My iPhone 5 is linked to both Resound Lynx 9 hearing aids.  However, telephone calls and music is only heard in the left ear.  When I try to listen to stereo music I don't hear the right channel.  How do I get sound to both ears?
    Thanks.
    Dennis

    Apple does not transfer data for you.  You need to back up your phone before you go.  You need to go to the Apple store (not Best Buy)--make an appointment at the Genius Bar so you don't have to wait.  Bring your phone.  It will be inspected.  If a manufacturing defect is found, and not determined to be to accidental damage, your phone will be replaced, not with a brand new one, but with a "service unit", which can either be a new or refurbished phone, with no way to tell the difference.

  • My earpods are louder in the left ear and the right ear feels sealed

    Every pair of earpods i get end up being louder in the left ear. As if that werent bad enough, the right earpod makes my ear feel like there is a plug in it. Does the right one change form after so much use? What is happening and what can i do about it??

    I had the same problem with my EarPods. They were working perfectly fine the other day and recently they have not been working. I was able to find a solution for this problem, however, I am not 100% sure that it would work for everyone. I know that this sounds really strange, but if you put the EarPod that is not working in between your lips and suck air from it, the sound will return to normal. As said before, I am not sure if this will work for everyone, but it worked for me and I hope it helps(:

  • Sound Blaster USB left ear died

    The left ear on my sound blaster USB headset just died today for no reason.
    I was listening to the headset, just fine...
    Took the headphones off for 3 seconds to talk to someone, put them back on, left ear was flickering on and off
    5 seconds later it was totally dead...
    Still is of course..
    I dont have serial number or warranty papers, nor the reciept for the headset but I have all the original boxing and packaging plus the disk it came with and installation information... Even the little california lead poisoning paper.
    I tried using support submit RMA request but that needs Serial #, tried using some other method and the site is broken.
    HELP ME. The headset is only 3 or 4 maybe 5 at most monthes old, still in warranty.

    Hi,
    I am not sure which headset you have but the serial number is usually listed on the back of the box as well as on the support leaflet. Please write to support using this form, do let us know if you still encounter difficulty writing to them.
    PS: If you still cannot find the serial number, just key in a random number and explain your situation to support in your email.

    I can hear only with the left ear-phone!!! The ear-phones are working normally in others devices. I have already reset the I-Pod but it didn´t work at all. Is there a way to balance the ear-phones or the i-pod must be repaired?

  • Alsa Primary Sound Card Only Outputting Left Ear

    When setting up my .asoundrc so my defaults were correct with my mic. Alsa got to thinking that my soundcard is only mono(or my sound card broke). Even with the .asoundrc asking for 2 channels it still only outputs the left ear. The sound was working perfectly fine before this and now refuses to go back even with the same .asoundrc as before.
    I have tested and made sure that the cable or my mixer is not at fault. My other sound card in my computer still functions in stereo.

    What model of CA0106 are you using? According to http://alsa.opensrc.org/Ca0106 there are 3 different models. You can look up your default alsa configuration devices with:
    less /usr/share/alsa/cards/CA0106.conf
    There may be some differences with default bindings with different models. Check if there are any hardware switches/paths configured:
    alsamixer
    and hit F5.
    Your .asoundrc does not seem to be ok. Try something like this:
    pcm.!default { type plug;
    slave.pcm "ca0106"; }
    pcm.ca0106 { type asym;
    playback.pcm "dmix";
    capture.pcm "cap"; }
    pcm.dmix { type dmix;
    ipc_key 1024;
    slave { pcm { type hw;
    card CA0106;
    rate 44100;
    period_time 0;
    period_size 1024;
    buffer_size 8192;
    channels 2; } }
    pcm.cap { type hw;
    card CA0106;
    #Change to correct device or delete next line
    device 0; }
    ctl.!default { type hw;
    card CA0106; }
    I left bindings out, so alsa can default, but if nothing happens, try:
    pcm.dmix { type dmix;
    ipc_key 1024;
    slave { pcm { type hw;
    card CA0106;
    rate 44100;
    period_time 0;
    period_size 1024;
    buffer_size 8192;
    channels 2; }
    bindings { 0 0;
    0 1; } }
    instead.
    You can also set rate to 192000 if your model supports it, the type plug plugin takes care of making any stream compatible to it.
    I am a bit rusty on alsa configuration, since I have done mine a very long time ago, you may want to check it for some hints http://pastebin.com/sG3kuPLu.
    Edit: The formatting may not display closing brackets }, but they are there. Copy the whole code.
