No Audio on some HD clips?

I imported a bunch of HVCPROHD rez clips @ 23.98 into a bin in Final Cut HD 4.5. All the clips have audio but only some of them play audio in final cut. They all show up as V1 A1 in the bin directory. I went back to the original quictime files and all the audio plays fine there. Any ideas why some clips would play audio and other won't?

Thanks again for the reply. Sorry for bumping the threads up. Working on a timeline and debugging a new system is frustrating to say the least...
To answer your notes, I have tried everything I can think of to resolve the problem. I am now lip synching with no audio to keep working.
-Were the problem files all from the same tape or different ones?
ALL FROM THE SAME TAPES.
-Have you tried re-exporting the problem files from the original files?
NO, ORIGINALS ARE 3 HOURS SOUTH OF HERE.
-Have you tried creating a new project and/or sequence and reimporting the files into FCP. YES. NEW PROGRAM, NEW BIN, NEW SEQUENCE, NO LUCK.
-Have you tried taking the material off line?
YES. DID A RELINK MEDIA TO NO AVAIL.
-When you say no audio, do the meters move but you don't hear it or the meters don't move?
METERS DO NOT MOVE AT ALL.
-Have you used FCP Rescue to trash FCP preferences?
NO, HOW DO I DO THAT?
-Have you tried the files on another computer running FCP?
I HAVE TRIED THE QUICKTIMES ON ANOTHER MACHINE AND THEY WORK FINE. DON'T HAVE ANOTHER FC SYSTEM TO TEST THE IMPORT PROBLEM WITH.
-Was the system that captured and exported the files running a different version of FCP than the one you are currently running?
NOT SURE BUT I WILL ASK THAT TOMORROW.
Here's the weird part. All the media was captured the same way from the same source. All of it works perfect if I open them individually in Quicktime. Once imported into FCPro, only certain clips play the audio. All clips show V1, A1. and a 48k sample rate in the bin info. I can't understand why some clips play audio and others do not. I even looked at the file sizes and there is no pattern as there are larger files that play and smaller ones that don't and vis versa. Thoughts?

Help!! working on a movie on Imovie. I had to delete a music file from a clip section and now there are some clips that have no audio!!! don't know how to get the audio back to my clips!!!! Help!!!

You can use some third party software to copy the music from your old iPod back to computer first, and then import the music into iTunes and re-sync them to yournew iPod. Here is a guide about how to transfer iPod music to computer. Hope it helps. Feel free to email me if you need further help.

  • No audio on some clips

    Hi
I am a cameraman and am creating a showreel for myself on dvd. A lot of the material I have originates on dvd that clients send to me of my work edited. I then use a programme called "cinematise" to rip these dvd's into quick time files.
When I preview my created dvd in idvd everything seems fine but when i burn to disc all the audio is lost on certain clips. I have looked at the audio properties of these clips in quicktime and it says they are Mpeg 1.
I also have another clip that has the audio on it when played back on my computer but the audio is lost when played in my dvd player. Please could someone help as I am tearing my hair out!!! and lots of dvd's are going in the bin.

Having had a similar problem - added sound files, layed ontop of camera video, plays fine on burned DVD, but camera audio goes out and never comes back.
After reading for several hours on iDVD 4 & 5, there appears to be no clear answers, Apple has not posted any solutions & the only canidate that might work - need to try it myself tonight, is to record back to a MiniDV camera at 16 bit sound, start a new iMovie project & redownload the video to the computer with 16 bit audio. I'll try to get back and let you know if it works for me.
For some reason, people are saying that 12 bit audio tends to cause problems - some of your client video clips might have been in 12 bit audio and is only showing up now with these versions software.
    Hope this helps,
    Terry

  • Rendering audio of some clips distorted

I have an older project from last year imported by an older version of iMovie. I imported those clips into FCE and things are looking fine. It had to render the audio and my sequence was complete..., until I spot checked some sections of it.
Two of the longer clips (about 4 minutes each) start off fine, but about 2-3 minutes into the clip the audio is scrambled. I can still hear the original audio, but other audio from the same clip is being superimposed at repeating intervals with that changing every few seconds. Regardless, the audio track is destroyed.
If I go back to the original source clip and play in viewer, it's perfect from end to end. The only way I could get around one of them was to break it up into sub-clips and it seemed to work OK then. Haven't gotten to the other clip yet that's messed up.
Is there a known problem with rendering audio in FCE? Source clips were from a DV camera imported via firewire.

Well I think I have found the solution!
I have previously tried deleting the audio render folder (documents:final cut express documents: audio render files:your project:) with some success. Final Cut Express will ask to reconnect these files, just ignore and click 'continue'. However, this did not solve the problem for my current project.
This time I tried deleting not only all of the audio render files, but also the waveform cache files (documents:final cut express documents: waveform cache files:). This folder contains files from ALL of your projects, so only delete the files whose names begin with the names of audio or video capture files from the current project. ie. I only deleted files called 'Assembly00001kgwv', 'Assembly00002kgwv', because when I captured from my camera, I named the capture files 'Assembly'.
Once you have deleted all of these waveform cache and audio render files (it will not ask to reconnect with the cache files), you should be able to re-render your entire project with no problem.
I have re-rendered an hour and twenty minutes and after briefly looking over the whole thing, there seems to be no problem. I do not know what the problem was, and I am not an expert so I won't take any guesses, but the solution seems to work for me, so I hope that helps!

  • Downloaded kindle app on ipad. Bought a photography book that included some video clips - I can view the video footage but have no audio!!

DDownloaded kindle app on my ipad, then bought a photography book which included some video clips - i can watch the video clips but have no audio!!

You need to find out what type of video it is.  What your describing is what you get when a Video codec (software that allows you to "see" the video) is missing, damaged, or too old for the movie.
Once you identify what kind of movie it is, then you can update the codec.

  • How do I mute the audio of a video clip in PS 6

I have video clips on several layers in the timeline and want to mute the audio of specific video clips - they are on video lines, not the audio line

an interesting development as I proceed with the video. I guess I'm missing an integral concept here. It appears that some of my cideo clips import into the project and the segments have a blue color. These offer an option to fade in or out the audio, to mute the audio or adjust the volume.
Other vidoe clips import purple, like the still image files, and hence these do not offer any audio options, just motion objects.
So, what am I doing wrong? Why do some video clips import (purple) as image files?

  • Is it possible to delete the audio of a captured clip permanently?

I know you can drag clips to the timeline without audio, or delete the audio from the timeline.
What I'm asking is: say you captured a bunch of clips with audio tracks that you didn't want, because you forgot to uncheck the audio box.
Is there some way you can delete the audio from the captured clips, without re-capturing everything? I'd like to have them sitting in my browser, without any associated audio.
I know you can change whether audio is present in a logged (but uncaptured clip) using clip settings, but that only works before the clip is captured.

Just think about this for a minute before you launch
yourself off into this realm. The audio doesn't
really take that much space. DV video runs at 3.6
MB/sec 48khz audio runs at 192kB/s. The audio takes
    up nothing.
You're right - it's not worth the effort. It's just a minor annoyance. It would be easier to just recapture all the clips.

  • Replace audio in multiple video clips at one time

Hello. I am new to the forum so I apologize if I break any of the rules!
I have a collection of tutorial videos, all edited but the audio had some balance issues. The files were not in Premiere Pro at the time. They are the final edited videos but then I was told the audio needed to be adjusted.
I have re-balanced the audio, saved the audio as wav files and now I need to replace the old audio (in the finished video file) with the new audio (the wav files I edited and saved). The timing is all the same. It's just a matter of replacing the current file.
Is this doable as a batch process? Is it doable in Premiere Pro or do I need to use Audition or some other Adobe software?
    I hope this makes sense.
    Thank you in advance!

  • Trying to combine audio from a video clip with a photo

Is there a way to allow the audio of a video clip to continue, while the visual is changed? I'm trying to insert a photo to replace the last few seconds of a video as the song in the video finishes.

Not at the moment. Hopefully at some point they will add a feature to independently trim the audio and video to allow this type of edit, otherwise known as an L cut.

  • Extracted Audio longer than movie clip, please help...

I was reading some of your FAQ's about extracted audio being
recomposed with a mono instead of stereo for exported audio from a microphone or other mono device, and then importing it back into iMovie after mixing it in Quicktime, to make it stereo (albeit with only mono feed).
    My question is this:
I extract the audio from the clip that I am running, and it is fine and good while within iMovie, however, once I drag and drop it to my desktop, and open it with quicktime and either play it or export it as mono to get it to play through both speakers, it uses the original
length of audio not the edited version that i pull from imovie. It is very frustrating, and I am not sure why it keeps doing this.
While it is in iMovie, the audio and video match, and are synched. But, when I export it, for some reason, it exports the original audio from the unedited clip (which has already been deleted!), and I don't know what to do to get it to export just the audio clip as it stands now within iMovie.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Chris

Hi Aesthesia - that is a fact of life of non-destructive editing. When audio is extracted from a shortened, cropped clip, it actually extracts the entire audio from the underlying original source clip. You can test this by extracting audio from a cropped clip, and you will find that you can, by direct editing, extend it back to its original length.
That explains why the audio file when played outside of iMovie plays at the original length.

  • Best practices/workflow in syncing multiple audio tracks to a clip

    Hello
    Master Collecition CS5
I have a couple of webisides that I'm editing.
Each actor had their own wirless lav microphone recording to an external audio system that recorded wav files.
And the camera was also recording audio.
We also had a clapboard that marked each scene. The camera and the external audio recording system all captured the clapboard information.
I am replacing the camera audio with the wav tracks from each lav microphone.  For the most part when Actor "A" speaks I use Actor "A"''s lav wav. amd when Actor "B" talks I use Actor "B"''s wav file.
The timeline is already fine tuned and I don't want to have to extend the beginning of each video clip on the timeline so that I can sync it with the clapboard.
I've tried a number of tricks including a separate sequence just for syncing up sound.  But it doesn't seem really practical or time efficient.
I was thinking that maybe I should be syncing up the clips in soundbooth.  I see that when I right-click on an audio trick I am given the option to "Edit in Soundbooth".
Would incorporating Soundbooth into my work flow speed up the audio syncing.
I hope I am being clear!
    Thanks
    Rowby

I personally wouldn't mess around with copying and pasting timecodes. Yes, that'll work, but it's going to take more time than is really necessary to accomplish what you need. This is how I'd do this, though note that it's going to require some manual effort, no matter what:
In your sequence, move the CTI to the in point of your clip's audio portion; make sure the track that that clip is on is targeted. Hit the M key, which will match frame the clip and load it into the Source Monitor. Don't double-click the sequence clip to load it; you need an independent reference (e.g. the original master clip) for "measurement" purposes.
In the source monitor, press O to mark an out point before you move the CTI. Now, move earlier in the clip until you get to the clapboard, and park the CTI on the frame where the "clap" happens. You could also toggle over to waveform view to make this easier (I've actually mapped Composite Video to F3 and Audio Waveform to F4 on my keyboard to make this a quick and easy toggle). Mark an in point (I key), and take note of the in-out duration in the lower-right corner of the source monitor; it's the white numbers. For this example, let's say those numbers read (for a 29.97fps clip) 00;00;05;00, or five seconds.
With that number in mind, load up the matching audio-only clip into the source monitor, and move the CTI to the "clap" which you should see pretty clearly in the waveform. Once the CTI is postioned, you need to move the CTI forward the number of frames/seconds that you noted above... minus one frame. So, on your numeric keypad, type a "plus" (+) and the digits 429, or 4 seconds 29 frames (obviously this will depend on your sequence/source frame rate; one second less one frame in a 23.976 timebase is 23 frames, etc.). Once the CTI is positioned, hit the I key to mark an in point, and then drag the audio to the sequence; hold the Alt key and drop it onto the audio portion of the clip you're replacing. This will map the original audio's in point to the replacement audio's in point, and maintain the duration of the original sequence clip.
The reason you need to go one frame less is because when you mark an out point on a clip, you're actually placing it at the "end" of the current frame you are viewing, not the "beginning." You can see this in action if you park the CTI at a given frame and mark both an in point and an out point without moving the CTI; you end up with a selection duration of 1 frame. As such, you need to offset this duration when backtiming and then applying the duration to the replacement clip. It'll make sense after you do it once.
I know that sounds like a lot, but I was just trying to be as detailed as possible. Hope it helps...

  • On iMovie how can you mute a section of the sound track so you can hear the audio from the video clip?

    .

    Hey,
If you double-click on the soundtrack you can open it up in the inspector tab and lower the soundtrack so that you can hear the audio from the video clip.
A great resource for finding answers to questions like this is http://www.imovietutorialhelp.com
You can ask questions just like these and they will be answered for you. If you need a tutorial video made or anything like that, you can go there as well and ask for a video to made as well. Check it out.

  • How to SIMPLY add audio crossfade between two clips ?

Tried to make a simple cut edit for tv news.
How to add an audio crossfade between two clips to soften transition ?
Detach audio, then create audio only scenario, then add transition ? Unusable.
When importing 8 tracks from Xdcam HD, how do you choose wich audio track to add your transition to ?
Also, impossible to re-export to Xdcam disk on the field.
This piece of software is simply unusable in real life pro conditions. Some very nice features, globally a disaster.

First thank you all for taking time to reply.
I found these solutions myself but for me these are only workaround.
In Fcp7, you just had to drag and drop dissolve transition to clips junctions TO AUDIO TRACK ONLY. Very quick and simple. In Fcpx, it is very time consuming if you want to add audio crossfade to every clip junction in a full project. That's really not a software evolution in my opinion...
I think "easy transitions to audio tracks only" has to be implemented in next version.
    Thanks again !

  • Audio Missing In File Clip

After doing some editing I noticed the audio portion of a clip was missing. It could be connected to other files in the timeline. Do I have to re-enter the clip to get the audio part of the file back?
Sorry if it's a dumb question.

Place the Timeline playhead over the clip and hit f. The original clip (with audio) should open in the Viewer, complete with the IN and OUT points for that clip.

  • Audio (and some video) dropping out export

I've created an project with short video/audio clips sampled to produce "music". It plays OK in FCPX, but when I export it (H.264, 720p, Apple Devices, 44.1) as an MP4, some of the audio (and some video) drops out. That is, it does not show up in the exported (aka "Shared") movie file.
There are about 7-8 things (tracks) going on at once, maximum.
Any ideas what to do to fix this?
    Thanks!
