"No Content" constantly in iPod on iPhone 3G

My iPhone 3G shows "No Content" when I go to the iPod app, even though it's loaded with music, videos and podcasts.
This has been happening to me for the last 6 months or so, and now it's
happening all the time. So much so, that I can't use my iPhone to listen to music or podcasts because it always says "No Content". I'm starting to think this is a plot to force me to upgrade to an iPhone 4...
If I restore I get the media back, for about 3 days. Then it goes back to No Content. And when I restore, it doesn't restore all of the apps I have installed, even though I backup right before I restore... So every time I restore I have to go through the hassle of re-installing all the apps it didn't restore.
So far the only thing that fixes it without restoring it is if I sync calendar and contacts on my work computer (WinXP Pro, iTunes 10.0.1), then I get the media back in iPod. Problem is, I sync podcasts at home, so I can listen to them on the drive to work. But as soon as I sync at home, I lose the media again, until I get to work. Not a workable solution in the least.
Here are some data points:
- iPhone 3G (not 3GS) on AT&T
- Running the latest firmware (4.1)
- Latest version of iTunes on Windows 7 Pro
- NOT jailbroken currently
- 67 Applications
- 14.5GB capacity, 9.2GB free
I have tried a few tricks suggested in various places, like creating a new playlist and syncing it to the iPhone, and deleting certain config files on the host computer and allowing iTunes to recreate those. None of those work for me.
Other than this issue, the iPhone works fine and I'm not going to replace it. If anyone can help me with this, PLEASE let me know! It would be great if Apple would admit this is an issue and actually try to fix it, but I don't expect much...
Thanks for your help!

Good question. The wierd thing is, I only get the "No Content" message when I sync with my home computer, which is where the content is. When I sync with my work computer, it then shows the content which was synced from the home computer...
The other clue that tells me this isn't related to the work computer thing is that, after I restore I don't sync with my work computer at all. Then, after a few days it goes back to the "No Content" message. Then I sync with my work computer just so I can consume my media. So the dual-sync thing doesn't come into play until after I start getting that message...
If I just couldn't sync with my work computer it wouldn't be the end of the world, even though I've been doing that on iPods and my iPhone for years... But I am just not convinced that it would make any difference, and the phone should support the ability (at least it always has until the last 6 months)...

  • Transfer content from Old iPod nano to iPod touch

    I have bought a new iPod touch G3 32gb 3.1.3.
However, realizing my computer has been formatted a couple of months ago, iTunes won't keep anything in my iPod Nano G3 4gb when it's not plugged in.
All the songs and videos and stuff are the only files I have in my iPod nano.
Is there any way that I can transfer my Ipod Nano content (including songs playlists videos and pictures) to my new iPod touch?
    Many thanks in advance! #adore#

Open iTunes first and go to Edit>Preferences>Devices and check the box "Prevent iPods and iPhones from syncing automatically" and choose Ok. Then connect your iPod.
2). When your iPod appears in the iTunes source list change the update setting to manual, that will let you continue to use your iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button. Also when using most of the utilities listed below your iPod needs to be enabled for disc use, changing to manual update will do this by default: Managing content manually on iPod and iPhone
3). Once you are connected and your iPod is safely in manual mode there are a few things you can do to restore your iTunes from the iPod. iTunes will only give you the option to copy your iTunes Store purchases directly from an iPod to the computer, you'll find details in this article: Copying iTunes Store purchases from your iPod or iPhone to a computer
For everything else (music from CDs, other downloads etc) there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. You'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well. You can read reviews and comparisons of some of them here:

4). Whichever of these retrieval methods you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync. Once everything is back in iTunes you can add it to your iPod Touch.
5). I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up, relying on an iPod as your sole backup is not a good idea and external drives are comparatively inexpensive these days, you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay: Back up your iTunes library by copying to an external hard drive

  • Am trying to get the contents of my iPod onto a different computer/iTunes

I got a new computer (hooray!) but unfortunately my iTunes is on old computer, and I'm giving it away. Also unfortunately, I have no idea if a) it's possible to get the contents of my iPod onto the new iTunes, and b) if so, how. So, if anybody can give me any tips, I'd really appreciate it. ^^

1). Connect your iPod to your new computer. If it is set to sync automatically you'll get a message that it is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all the songs from your iPod.

Old pc crashed, only have existing music on ipod and iphones, need to re-establish itunes on new pc, how do you do it?

    Hi ted846,
For any content on your iPod and iPhone purchased from iTunes, you can transfer it to your new computer's iTunes library via this article:
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iOS device or iPod to a computer
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1848
For anything not purchased through iTunes, you will need to reimport that from the original source or otherwise bring over from the previous disk.
    Take care!

  • HT1296 can i sync content from "safe note" app from iPod to iPhone?

can i sync content from "safe note" app from iPod to iPhone?

    No.
If you aren't syncing contacts with a supported address book app on your computer, and/or not syncing contacts over the air with an email account on your iPhone that supports this with a number of accounts that do which are free including a free Apple iCloud account, and your iPhone's backup is not being done wirelessly with a free Apple iCloud account and you don't have a backup for your iPhone on a computer, your contacts will be lost.

    Welcome to the Apple community.
In order to change your Apple ID or password for your iCloud account on your iOS device, you need to delete the account from your iOS device first, then add it back using your updated details. (Settings > iCloud, scroll down and hit "Delete Account")

  • I had my own laptop with my own iTunes account on it. However the laptop is now broken. My partner has his laptop but his already got his own iTunes account. How can I sync my iPod and iPhone to this laptop but use my iTunes?

Can we both use the same iTunes but get all our music ect into one? Or can we share our separate accounts between devices? We both have iPod touch, iPhone 4 and an iPad each. At the moment I can't seem to get to my iTunes as it come up that it will delete everything in my phone/iPod but u have downloaded things to the devices directly and don't want to lose that?

    Hello Miss,
To set up a new Windows user account, if it is Windows 7, go to Start > Control Panel > User Accounts and Family Safety > Add or Remove User Accounts > Create New Account.
The old laptop is probably on Windows XP, so the menus may look a little different.
Once they each have their own Windows user account, they can each work with their own iTunes library, and all content will be independently managed.  That should avoid snarls and demerits in the coming year.

  • I have two itunes accounts on two different computers, can i merge the accounts so i can then have the same music on both ipod and iphone?

i have two itunes accounts one for each of my two computers, can i merge them so that i can have the same music on my ipod and iphone,
it is all so confusing i need help!!!

You can't currently merge accounts and the content will remain tied to the account that originally bought/downloaded it, though you can have more than one account authorised on the same computer's iTunes via Store > Authorise This Computer. As only one account can be actually logged in at a time (Store > Sign In / Sign Out) for purchasing or re-downloading/viewing past purchases, you may want to use just the one account for future purchases.

  • HT1430 i have a pc and when i hook up my ipod or iphone it no longer takes me to itunes, ANy ideas?

i had an iphone 4 and just got an iphone 5c. last week before i upgraded, my ipod and iphone stopped connecting directly to itunes. how do i reset my pc for this to work

WIndows is asking you to reformat the iPod's hard disk because it's probably in the Mac OS X Extended Journaled file system format which the Windows OS can neither read or write to.  Reformatting will erase all content from the device and rebuild the filesystem as FAT32 unless you specify it as NTFS (which you shouldn't do).
If you want to be able to use your iPod to copy music from your Mac to your PC, you'll need to either pre-format it as FAT32 using Disk Utility on your Mac and then copy everything over to your PC, or use third party software such as XPlay that allows a Windows PC to read and write to a Mac formatted iPod.
Perhaps you could take a look at this article for other ways to copy your iTunes library and files from your Mac to the PC.

If you restore from iCloud backup the apps will be automatically downloaded. If you restore from iTunes backup the apps and music have to be in the iTunes library since synced media like apps and music are not included in the backup of the iOS device that iTunes makes.

  • Error in "Create iPod or iPhone version" take 2

Apologies: an unfinished version of this question was inadvertently posted a few minutes ago. A slip of the finger. Again, sorry.
In the Advanced pull-down menu, there is an option, "Create iPod or iPhone version," presumably for making video on the computer playable on the iPod or iPhone. I have tried this several times, but usually, after several hours of work, iTunes comes up with an error message. I have successfully converted two videos, but four others have given me the error message.
Is this common, or are there some settings I should be aware of? I'm taking a 2200 mile road trip in a couple of weeks and would like watch some "video" that I OWN on my iTouch. Hopefully I'm not trying to do something that will help hasten the demise of the commercial "video" industry.

I'm seeing this error too. Is anyone else? Any ideas on how to fix it? I see it when I cue several movies for ipod conversion. The process goes through a couple of movies and then provides this lovely error. I can then re-cue the conversion on the files not completed. Stop with another error and repeat. Eventually I get through all of them but since the process takes so freakin long to convert, I normally like to leave it overnight then sync my ipod the next morning. No can do: if it's constantly stopping.

  • Will iTunes support an iPod and iPhone that uses the same computer?

I'm curious to know if Apple has/will take into consideration that many people who will purchase the iPhone, will make the purchase as an addition to their Apple perepherals and not a substitution. Meaning, the iPhone will not replace the iPod as their portable music player. As I understand, Apple has set copyright guidelines to how many iPods one can assign to an individual player, and how many iPods one could transfer files to, to only 1 player. My question is, is Apple going to allow file transfers to both the iPod and iPhone when the user syncs from their computer? I want to purchase the iPhone upon release, but I would reconsider if I was unable to listen to music on both my iPod and iPhone.

Nobody knows how it will interact. Probably just like an iPod does now. You can have multiple iPods for syncing to one computer, each receiving different content. So there shouldn't be any issue there.
By the way, the authorization limit is number of computers not iPods. There has been cases here of whole families with each person having one sometimes two iPods.

What do I do to get Notes to synch to my Windows 7 Outlook.  Before I began synching my IPod and IPhone to my PC with the ICloud and synched by cable, the synching was fine.  There is no mention of notes on the ICloud control panel but the ICloud is selected on Outlook notes.

Make sure you don't have any notes that have no content or subject or this can prevent syncing with Outlook.  If you do, delete them.
If you don't, try unchecking "Mail,Contacts,Calendars & Tasks with Outlook" on the iCloud control panel for Windows, choose Delete at the prompt (the data will still be in iCloud), restart your PC, then go back and check this setting again.  (Your iCloud data will reappear in Outlook after a brief delay as it redownloads.)
Then create a new note on one of your iOS devices and see if it appears in the Notes folder in Outlook mail after a few minutes.
