No cover art when importing CD to music library...

I travel alot and have a vast CD colllection. That's why I bought my iPod. It's a convenient way to take my music with me on planes, trains, and where ever. While I am very happy with that decision, one of my disappointments that when iTunes downloads CD information from the internet, it does not download cover art.
I own the CDs and use the music for personal use, so I don't see this as a copyright issue. If I rip the same CD using Widows Media Center, or almost any other software, the downloaded information includes the album cover. Why the hestitency with Apple's iTunes? All I want to see is a picture of the album cover next to the name of the tune that is playing.

Hello Anna,
And welcome to Apple Discussions!
There could a couple of different things happening here. First of all, are you having iTunes automatically retrieve album information from its database and filling in these details automatically, or are you entering the album information in by hand?
If you are entering this information in by hand make sure the Album name is the same throughout each track. To make sure, highlight all the tracks in the album at once by holding down the CTRL key. Then right->click on them and choose "Get Info" from the menu. From there, head over to the Info tab and re-enter the album name.
If that is not the case, is this album a compilation, meaning that it has tracks with various other artists as well? If so, its probably marked as part of a compilation in iTunes and you can remove the tick mark next to this option from the Info tab as well.
For now we'll start there.
Hope this helps.

Hello and welcome to the support community
As you know, your iPhone 5 is not compatible with our iBook G4. To get your music in iTunes from your iBook to your iPhone you would need to migrate the music files to a newer intel based Mac. A Mac which has Mac OS X 10.6 or higher installed. Then sync your iPhone 5.

How can I keep tabs on the file size when importing from the Event Library into a Project? I want to ensure the movie will fit onto a 4.7Gb disc?

iDVD does not care about file sizes, as it compresses the file to the standard DVD format of mpeg2.
It only cares about length i.e. max 2 hours including titles etc.
    iDVD encoding settings:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=iDVD/7.0/en/11417.html
    Short version:
Best Performance is for videos of up to 60 minutes
Best Quality is for videos of up to 120 minutes
Professional Quality is also for up to 120 minutes but even higher quality (and takes much longer)
Professional Quality: The Professional Quality option uses advanced technology to encode your video, resulting in the best quality of video possible on your burned DVD. You can select this option regardless of your project’s duration (up to 2 hours of video for a single-layer disc and 4 hours for a double-layer disc). Because Professional Quality encoding is time-consuming (requiring about twice as much time to encode a project as the High Quality option, for example) choose it only if you are not concerned abo
In both cases the maximum length includes titles, transitions and effects etc. Allow about 15 minutes for these.
You can use the amount of video in your project as a rough determination of which method to choose. If your project has an hour or less of video (for a single-layer disc), choose Best Performance. If it has between 1 and 2 hours of video (for a single-layer disc), choose High Quality. If you want the best possible encoding quality for projects that are up to 2 hours (for a single-layer disc), choose Professional Quality. This option takes about twice as long as the High Quality option, so select it only if time is not an issue for you.
Use the Capacity meter in the Project Info window (choose Project > Project Info) to determine how many minutes of video your project contains.
NOTE: With the Best Performance setting, you can turn background encoding off by choosing Advanced > “Encode in Background.” The checkmark is removed to show it’s no longer selected. Turning off background encoding can help performance if your system seems sluggish.
And whilst checking these settings in iDVD Preferences, make sure that the settings for NTSC/PAL and DV/DV Widescreen are also what you want.

  • Had to have my hard drive rebuilt in my PC (not Mac). When I reinstalled my music library from iTunes, several of the songs did not download properly - they appear in light colored ink on my library list but the songs will not play and will not synch

Had to have my hard drive rebuilt in my PC (not a Mac).  When I reinstalled my music library from itunes, some of the songs did not properly download.  They appear in light colored ink, but will not play and will not synch with my iPod.  How can I get all of my songs back?

If your country's iTunes Store allows you to redownload purchased tracks, I'd delete your current copies of the dodgy tracks and try redownloading fresh copies. For instructions, see the following document:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
Otherwise, I'd report the problem to the iTunes Store.
Log in to the Store. Click on "Account" in your Quick Links. When you're in your Account information screen, go down to Purchase History and click "See all".
Find the items that are not playing properly. If you can't see "Report a Problem" next to the items, click the "Report a problem" button. Now click the "Report a Problem" links next to the items.

  • How to maintain cover artwork when importing from media library

    Hello,
I would need some help on a small, but pretty annoying issue I keep experiencing.
I manage my music with iTunes 11, i.e. I use my personal library to rip my CDs to iTunes. Often cover art of albums does not appear automatically, which I then manage by manually downloading them from Amazon and copying them to the iTunes songs. So far so good.
In order to keep my hard disk space at reasonable level, I then share relevant music with my family by importing iTunes files to their media library using the opiton not to copy the entire file, but just create the link. They use the same computer, but personal user accounts. All works fine except that the cover art work often gets lost. Interestingly, it is still there in my iTunes library and the effect is not reproducible, ie for some albums I lose the cover art and for some not. The issue of course proliferates to any connected devices such as iPhone and iPod.
I have had this problem for years and upgrading to newest OS and iTunes versions never helped.
Does anybody experience the same and has found a solution?
    Many thanks in advance,
    Markus
PS: The above is a work around, as suprisingly there is no easy way to share your albums with users on the same computer, only across different devices in the same network.

I don't know much about the MacBookPro, but if you can access the two screenshot menus shown in my previous post by selecting the drop-down in the top left corner and clicking on Get Info:
The CTRL+I shortvut shown above may be a Windows option, which may not apply to Apple products, I don't know.

No. You simply highlight all the songs on the album before selecting the File/Get Info. You will see a question asking if you wish to edit multiple items (yes, you do) and the artwork box for the album is on the Info panel:

  • Cover art for pdf books in ibook library

Hi have tried for days to get covers on my pdf books that are in my ibook library but i can't find the answer. Have tried various methods and it is driving me insane!!! Have tried calibre, get the cover but when i try and open the book nothing happens, have tried to add a page to the pdf document but there is nowhere to let me insert a page, have read loads of things on google but nothing is working. Please help it would be greatly appreciated.
    thanx

If you have a Mac computer, you can just open your PDF in preview and drag a picture into the sidebar to make it the first page then save it.
If you only have Windows computer, you can use acrobat full version to edit your PDF file.
Or you can convert cover art picture to PDF format, then combine it with book PDF file by some PDF merge tool.

  • RE: freezing and resetting problems when syncing a large music library

    Hi there,
I got a new ipod classic 160gb for christmas. I updated the firmware to 1.0.3 and synced it for the first time. When I tried to play any music it locked up and went into a loop of resetting itself which I could only break by forcing the ipod into disk mode.
I restored the ipod and tried again syncing the music in chunks. This worked until the ipod was about 50% full then it started to freeze and reset again. I took this ipod back to the store but the new one had the exact same problem!
Through a lot of trial and error I have managed to get the ipod working with only part of my library synced. By syncing music a few albums at a time I have managed to get about 86gb (of 120gb) onto it, but surely this is not how it is supposed to be! I have a dual boot system and have the same problems using windows XP or vista.
I know that I'm not the only person experiencing resetting problems with the ipod classic. Are the users who are experiencing these endless resetting problems with the ipod classic those who have large music libraries (i.e over 80gb)? Can the ipod classic simply not handle the large volumes of music it was designed to hold?
The only features I was looking forward to in the new ipod were a) larger capacity hard drive and b) the ability to organise playlists into folders on the ipod for easier browsing. As it stands I cannot sync my full library and navigating through my playlists is so slow it is hardly worth bothering. I never had a minutes trouble with my 5th gen.
Have I been unlucky and the ipod classics I have recieved have been duds? In which case should I arrange another replacement? Or is this typical of the ipod classic user experience when the user has a large music library and many playlists? Should I await a firmware update that might remedy my problems?
Lastly am I doing something wrong? Any help or workarounds would be gratefully appreciated.

best thing to do is use Playlist and Smart Playliss to fill your iPod. Just so you know, since your post seemed to indicate you thought the playlists have to be tailored to what is already on the iPod, when you sync to playlists, any songs needed for those playlists are automatically moved onto the iPod. And any songs NOT in the playlists get removed.

  • Cover art synchs on Ipod, but music doesn't.

    Hello,
I've purchased a bunch of songs from an Itunes gift card. All the songs loaded onto my G5 as expected. But when I manually synched them onto my Ipod, the album art shows up, but not the music. When I attempt to play the song, the artwork appears for a brief second and then the Ipod jumps to the next song in the cue.
I next downloaded a free song of the week from the Itunes store and the same thing happened. The song loaded, but just the artwork synched.
I've tried to re-synch it over and over and I'm still just getting the album cover, not music. The songs still play on my IMac, but not on the Ipod.
Any ideas what I'm doing wrong or what could be the problem would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks
    Mg63

Try removing the tick mark next to Sync Podcasts from under your iPod's Podcasts configuration tab in iTunes and applying the changes.  Once it has finished, reapply the sync option and again apply the changes to resync your iPod.
This should remove the stranded podcasts.
However, if it doesn't,  A restore of the iPod may be in order.

  • Can't import songs from music library to itunes!

I have no problems importing songs from audio cds into itunes, but it won't recognize any of the files that i have in other folders of my computers (in mp3 format). and when i select 'import' and these songs, it just doesn't do anything. any suggestions to help??? thanks!
    dell inspiron 4100   Windows XP

Most of them are files burned from an audio CD onto another computer, and then saved onto a USB device and then transferred onto my computer (I no longer have the original CDs, hence the roundabout procedure). some of the files however, are simply from 'my music' folder that i had previously burned onto my computer before installing itunes. i've checked the status of all the files--and none are protected. any suggestions? thanks!
Reknath, where did these files come from? If there
were downloads from other websites, they are probably
protected & that's why you can't get them into iTunes.

  • Is there a way to import your entire music library from an iPod classic into iTunes on  my PC?  PC was wiped out and my iPod is the only complete library copy I have.

My PC hard drive was wiped out and I am rebuilding my Windows 7 system.  The only complete library I have of my music is located on my iPod classic.  Is there a way to import the library from my iPod into a  new iTunes library on my PC?  I was told if I connect my iPod to the PC, ITunes will try to sync with the iPod and wipe out the library on the iPod.

  • What to do when Import is interrupted - Managed Library

I was in the middle of importing files via File > Import .... I selected to manage the library in Aperture ( not referenced files )
I left the machine running overnight as it was adding 160gig of files.
Upon my return, I noticed that the previews and most files were displayed in the morning - It actually looked like all the import had completed... but it still said importing. Even when looking at the activity monitor - it also said importing - i presume it did the previews ?
My problem came when I returned to my computer after lunch to see .......Aperture had crashed.
How can I verify all the files imported - as I think it still had quite a bit to go...
Is there any way to not check manually, so I do not have to import again ? As I think a manual check may just be on the previews and file count - not checking if the actual file is there ? Also there is loads
    Please advise - Much appreciated

    Thanks for the detailed reply
Will give each option a try this evening.
There were lots of video files in the import - so I presume you are correct in saying that may be why it crashed, even if it was another type of naughty problem file....
In this case - is there no way to check a managed library import target, against an import destination target - due to the masters being ripped & placed into the aperture 'show contents' folders structure?
I presume your suggestion below only apply's to the files that were imported before the crash tho?
"File➞Switch to Library➞Other/New" will bring up a dialog that tells you how many Originals and how many Versions are in each Library.
Apeture now is just crashing on opening all the time with the spinning ball ....think I may have to delete that whole import to solve the problem, regardless of the next anticipated 'crashing on import' issue that may be an obsolte one with certain files as you mentioned.
Many thanks again for any other suggestions or feedback

  • HT1923 I am using windows 7 and have upgraded itunes to 11. Now when I open my music library in itunes and click on a song it says "original file could not be found" Over 2000 songs come up this way and locate does not seem to work. Before the upgrade all

With Windows 7 I upgraded itunes to 11. Now in my itunes library, when I click on a song "original file could not be found" comes up. This happens with over 2000 songs, but it seems to be ones I recorded from cd's. Locate does not seem to work. Has anyone else had this problem?

Highlight a song that is supposedly missing, press CTRL+I to Get Info, say no when asked to locate the file, then look at the summary tab. Where does iTunes "think" the file should be? Where is it really? You may need to give a configuration file a minor tweak.
