'No disk in the drive' message

I downloaded the latest iTunes and now whenever I start iTunes, I get a message, 'There is no disk in the drive. Please insert a disk into drive' with the option to Cancel, Try Again, Continue. If I select Try Again or Continue, I get the message again. I have completely removed QuickTime and uninstalled iTunes and its folders according to the instructions at the Apple website, re-booted and then re-installed iTunes and I get the same error message. Does anyone have a solution? Thanks for any help you can give me.

This can also be caused in iTunes 7 by "dead tracks": songs that iTunes is expecting to find in a certain place but the song file isn't there. Either the location was blank or pointed to a missing file.
I recently upgraded to version 7 and got this message every time I started iTunes. I used the iTunes COM SDK for Windows with JScript to find all the dead tracks in my library. Then I fixed them by either deleting them from the library or else correcting the library's idea of where the song file was. Once I did this the message went away.

When I am using Premiere Elements 13 I get a message that pops up "There is no disk in the drive" I click on it and it keeps coming back "very annoying", but about three months ago it happened to me and I was told to change the file name from OldFilm.AEX  to OldFilm.AEXold. Well now the file is back in Folder OldFilm.AEX. Here is a screen shot the files are highlighted. What should I do now to correct this once and for all, or can I? Thank you for your time.

    TomWolves
I would do another rename to disable or just delete all the OldFilm.AEX and OldFilm.AEXOLD in that NewBlue Folder.
If you do, please let me know if that OldFilm.AEX regenerates itself the next time you open Premiere Elements 13.
Here is the strange story...at least from my Premiere Elements 13 Windows perspective...never had the No Disc error issue
Here are some details to sort through trying to figure out why you have 2 OldFilm.AEX file in the NewBlue Folder.
    1. The original OldFilm.AEX file of Premiere Elements 13 has the date of 9/4/2014 (just before the version was released on 9/24/2014).
After the 13.1 update is done (whenever date), that OldFilm.AEX file has the date of 1/31/2015. I first saw notification of the 13.1 Update
    release early in February 2015.
    2. Now in Premiere Elements 13.1, if I take my OldFilm.AEX (date 1/31/2015) and disable it by renaming it to OldFilm.AEXOLD, close out of there, and reopen
the program, the OldFilm.AEX is not seen to regenerate. The OldFilm.AEXOLD remains there as its lone self.
    3. So, I am thinking that your OldFilm.AEXOLD in the screenshoot is "original equipment" that you disabled to get rid of No disc error.
Why the OldFilm.AEX is there also is not clear, but the dating on it suggests that it came along with the 13.1 Update.
Bottom line: let us try the deletion or disabling one more time and see what happens.
Looking forward to further reports on your findings, as your time permits.
    Thanks.

  • Error Message When Syncing Ipod "There is no disk in the drive ... "

When doing a search on the internet for this error message, i see a few other previous posts on forums.ilounge.com with others having this issue with Itunes, but all I can find is someone talking about deleting the Itunes preferences files on my computer, and I did that, but that didn't help. I was wondering if anyone had any bright ideas.
I get this annoying message EVERYTIME I sync my Ipod:
"There is no disk in the drive. Please insert a disk into drive G:".
(Drive G on my computer is my Ipod when i have it plugged in). It doesn't seem to interfere with anything; all I have to do is click continue and the message goes away. But as I said, it's annoying, and I want it gone. I want to avoid reinstalling Itunes if I can due to the hassle of having to do so, plus previous posters on forums.ilounge.com said they did so an it didn't help. If someone can direct me to a previous string where this has already been discussed please post me the link. thanks!

    Hi there
I am also getting this error message. One day my iPod was syncing fine, the next I was getting this error message. I have tried every conceivable drive letter, and still I get the message. i have also tried every drive on my computer, still the same message.
I have restarted and restored the iPod several times, no change to error message.
I shelled out £16.99 on a new sync cable, thinking that might help - but no, i still get the same error message.
In addition, my iPod screen displays the DO NOT DISCONNECT sign.
I seem to be able to perform a sync, but at the end, when iTunes says sync complete, the error message appears on my screen (incidentaly the header bar of the error message says: CorelLOMonitor.exe - No Disk) and the iPod screen continues to flash "Do Not Disconnect". This continues indefinatly and I have only been able to stop it by unplugging the iPod form the Sync cable.
I really would welcome some assistance with this problem.
    Many thanks

  • "There is no disk in the drive"  How to eliminate this message?

    Hi everyone,
I just got a new Nano, and whenever I sync it with itunes, I get an error message that says "There is no disk in the drive. Please insert a disk in the drive".
I have tried reinstalling itunes, tried different usb ports, and also reset my ipod, but I still get the message.
The only way I prevented it from occurring was when I created a new profile in Windows and logged into it, but this isn't a permanent solution.
    Thanks for your help.

  • Error Msg - There is no disk in the drive. Please insert a disk into drive

Okay, I have been using itunes w/the same ipod for quite a while. Recently my computer died so I just bought a new one. Before getting rid of the old one I logged onto windows and moved all my files to an external drive. I am now using this external drive for all my docs, music, etc. on the new computer and did a "move" of "my documents" (including "my music" contained therein). I installed itunes and my ipod using the software disks that came with my ipod. I inserted the ipod and it worked fine but it did make me associate the ipod with this new computer and had to reinstall all my music on my ipod. So far so good. Then when I went to play a purchased song itunes informed me that I had to upgrade to the most recent version of itunes to play the song. I then dowloaded the update and installed it. After installing the updated itunes, itunes then basically re-associated itself with my ORIGINAL profile (I'm not sure if profile is the correct word to use here) and once again deleted everything on my ipod and reinstalled all my songs. Now this is where I began having this problem. Now, everytime I run itunes (with or without my ipod connected) I get 12 of the above-mentioned error messages. The top of the box says "Windows - No Disk" and the main part of the box says "There is no disk in the drive. Please insert a disk into drive." I am given the choice of "Cancel" "Try Again" and "Continue." I hit cancel for a total of 12 times. I've tried with disks in both of my cd/dvd drives and get the same message. The funny thing is that I have about 12 or so card readers (scene by the computer as drives) and I'm thinking that maybe itunes is trying to access those drives or something, but I'm not sure. So, that's it in a nutshell. Any help by someone w/knowledge of this issue would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Then I fixed them by either deleting them from the library or else correcting the library's idea of where the song file was. Once I did this the message went away.
Another way to look for dead tracks is to parse the iTunes library XML file and look for invalid file paths. I did this in Perl without too much trouble.

  • Windows Error Msg when using Itunes - "There is no disk in the drive. "

    Hi there -
Desperately seeking help before I lose my mind !
Whenever I try to do anything in iTunes I get the Windows windows error message "WINDOWS - NO DISK. There is no disk in the drive. Please insert a disk into drive ." with the options to either CANCEL, TRY AGAIN or CONTINUE.
Regardless of which of the options I select, the error message re-appears & will not close.
I try CTRLALTDEL but I get the message Itunes is "not responding".
    I have tried:
    - Updating iTunes software
    - Making sure I have the latest Windows Updates
    - Uninstalling and reinstalling iTunes
    - Selective start-up where I disable all applications which might be clashing with iTunes
    - clearing the menu in QuickTime
    None of these work
    Any ideas ?
    Thanks -
    HP Pavillion   Windows XP

I am wondering if you ever got this problem straightened out, or if anyone else knows the solution to this problem. I am receiving the exact same message as you talk about receiving here:
"WINDOWS - NO DISK. There is no disk in the drive. Please insert a disk into drive ."
No drive is listed, just a "."
I also have tried uninstalling and resinstalling iTunes many times. Not only that, but I thought it might be a virus problem of some kind, so I totally resintalled my Windows XP system. All to no avail. Even on my newly installed system I am having this problem in iTunes.
I have found that if I hit Cancel about 80 times (literally), iTunes will finally load. But it is crazy that anyone should have to go throug this each time he loads the iTunes program.
Someone posted a link to a Microsoft fix for a similar problem, but I was unable to understand the fix, and the problem listed in the fix did not seem to correspond with the problem we're having.
If anyone knows the solution to this problem and is able to give instructions for the solution, I would really appreciate it! I would just use an alternative mp3 player to iTunes at this point if I could, but that isn't really feasible since I have an iPod.

  • Windows No Disk There is no disk in the drive. Please insert a disk......

Help! Just recently this message window has been appearing everytime I open up iTunes:
    Windows No Disk
There is no disk in the drive. Please insert a disk into drive.
iTunes was humming along nicely for over a year with no problems. All of a sudden this message keeps popping up. I can still use iTunes to its full capacity, but this annoying little window is beginning to push my blood pressure up.
Has anyone else experienced this problem?
    Thanks

    Any thoughts?
all manner of thoughts. some might even be relevant to the matter at hand ...
okay, back in the days of new itunes 6.0.0.18 and 6.0.1.3 installs, we used to sometimes get reports of Windows asking for all sorts of disks when people tried to launch itunes after an upgrade. (sometimes it would be like your message, sometimes it would be asking for a specific disk with no apparent connection to itunes.) i never did manage to work out what precisely was going on with it. my best guess was that the installation scripts in the itunes installers (or QT 7.0.3 installers) were sometimes activating other installation routines for other programs. (i've seen your message show up before when i've tried installing other software on my PC from a disk.) whatever it was, it seemed to stop happening to people from itunes 6.0.2.23 (and QT 7.0.4) onwards.
i was wondering if we had an even weirder version of that going on with your message (only it started happening after an install of a different package). that's why i was checking up on the version number of your itunes before.
assuming for the moment that you do have an itunes 6.0.0.18 or 6.0.1.3 in there, we might as well try something that could fix the version of the message that you're getting. sometimes if people put a CD (an audio CD is fine) into the disk drive prior to launching their itunes, they wouldn't get that message. sometimes, they wouldn't get that message ever again even if in future launches they didn't have a CD in the drive.
if no joy with that (and you're currently at 6.0.0.18 or 6.0.1.3), we might try an upgrade to 6.0.4.2 (working on the principle that we haven't seen this often if at all since 6.0.2.23 came out, and 6.0.4.2 is more stable and/or more readily available than 6.0.2.23 or 6.0.3.5).
    keep us posted.
    love, b

    Great post Jcat21. My HP has a built-in multi-card reader, I
disabled them, and now it works!
    To disable it:
    Open Divice Manager
    Open "Disk drives" tree node
Right-click on "Generic USB CF Reader" and disable.
Right-click on "Generic USB MS Reader" and disable.
Right-click on "Generic USB CDReader" and disable.
Right-click on "Generic USB SM Reader" and disable.
I am not sure which disabled card reader made it work...I'll
test that next. Also, I'm not sure if it has to do with the
assigned drive letters, but mine were G through K.

  • There is no disk in the Drive

When we try to import a song or on occasion we we click on a song to play it we get an error message no number that says "there is not disk in the drive, please insert a disk.
Then there is 3 buttons cancel, retry, or skip, I think. Sometimes you have to go through this 2 or 3 times or more for each song, before you get rid of it.
Where did this message come from and how do I get rid of it?
After you get it to go away it works great.

  • There is no disk in the drive--please insert a disk into drive F & more

    Hey,
I've been having a problem with my ipod shuffle (2nd gen) for the past couple of weeks. Everything is okay until I try to eject the ipod. I click the eject button and the following errors pop up: "There is no disk in the drive--please insert a disk into drive F." and this next error pops up immediately after the disk F error. "The ipod can not be ejected because it contains files that are in use by another application."
I've been browsing around on this forum and I came across a person that had the exact same problem I had. That thread is located here: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=12582148&#12582148 Take note of the person replying to the person asking about the problem saying it could be a problem with an anti-virus program. The asker said they had McAfee. I also have McAfee. And since the person answering didn't know too much about McAfee and suggested the asker take it up with McAfee, I decided to go straight to the McAfee forum to ask about the problem. I asked my question over there and the person answering said it couldn't be a problem with McAfee. It doesn't interfere with legitimate software. I could always click skip once it reached the ipod if I felt like doing that. Or I could turn off the schedule scan to avoid automatic scanning--I already did that. I prefer manual scans. Anyway, the McAfee discussion is located here: https://community.mcafee.com/message/167031#167031
As for the 5 R's: I have reset the ipod. I've tried putting the dock into another USB port. It's firmly in the dock btw. I updated itunes a couple of days ago to see if that would help the problem and it didn't. I uninstalled itunes last night, restart the machine and reinstalled it and I still got the error. And I haven't tried restore. tbh I really want to avoid that route if at all possible. I've done 4 out of the 5 R's. I'd hate to restore everything and still have the problem come up.
Can somebody please help me? Normally I wouldn't consider this a huge problem but I don't want it leading to a bigger problem in the long run.
And for computer information: My system is 100% clean. I have McAfee and Malwarebytes and I use them regularly and it always comes out clean.
    Thank you for any/all replies.

I had the same problem and after a few hours, I found the fix. iTunes uses a program called "MobileDeviceService". It appears Mcafee blocks this program by default. To resolve this, got to McAfee Firewall Settings, click "Internet Connections for Programs", and find the program called "MobileDeviceService". Edit the settings to change Access Level from "Block" to "Full". Now you will be able to synch to your iphone/ipad/ipod through iTunes.

    Yes. Try Amazon.
Before you do upgrade to Snow Leopard, make sure your Mac meets the requirements.

Make sure the disc you tried using doesn't have any fingerprints or smudges on it. The optical drive can't read the disk otherwise.
If your Mac won't read the disc, might be a good idea to rule out any problems with the startup disk BEFORE trying to upgrade the system.

  • Windows Error: "There is no disk in the drive"

When I connect or update my iPod using iTunes, I get a Windows Error stating "There is no disk in the drive. Please insert a disk into drive F:." F: is the drive that my iPod appears in explorer while the device is updating.
Is this a problem with the iPod or with windows? I would like to know in case i have a defective iPod.
    Thanks!

FYI, after calling Apple support, it turns out the problem was to do with McAfee VirusScan. McAfee attempts to access the iPod disk after the disk is removed from Explorer, which was the source of the error box. To fix this, you can either turn on the "External Disk" option in iTunes, or you can change McAfee setttings to exclude the iPod disk.
