No dock after updating to 10.3 on an iBook G3

After upgrading to 10.3 on an iBook 14.1, dual USB, the dock does not appear no matter what I do. I even did the update to 10.9. I am very familiar with the OS, many years experience, and have tried everything I know: system prefs., etc. Does anyone know how to fix this? I can't even locate the Trash, although I can "Command-Delete" a file to get it there, and dump it. But I can't retrieve something from it! I've even tried the "Terminal" Killall Dock approach but it says there isn't anything to kill. I even tried reinstalling the update, no luck. Help!!

Dock Freezes/Bounces Forever/Icon(s) missing
Delete ....
~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.dock.plist
~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.dockfixup.plist
/Library/Caches/com.apple.dock.iconcache.501
• log out/in.This will reset the Dock to its default values, so you will have to reset the preferences for the dock.
If that does not do it, delete:
~library/preferences/com.apple.finder.plist
~library/preferences com.apple.sidebarlists.plist
(You will have to reset a few finder prefs the way you like them.)
Again, log out and back in again or restart.

I ran into this problem as well. Seems like something funky going on with iBooks 3. Anyways, I had to tweak my read-aloud clip starts in the smil. Where the word was not highlighting, I added a few milliseconds to the timing until the word started highlighting again. Not the most ideal solution, and not sure what exactly causes it because 90% of the words were just fine, but it seemed to fix the problem. Note prior to the problem happening, I had all my clip start timings = clip end timings for the previous word, so there were no gaps.

Mac App store won't install on dock after update to 10.6.8

Hi All
I am running OSX 10.6.8 and have tried numerous times to get the App store icon to install...I am at the point of pulling my hair out, I'm so frustrated. I've installed the 10.6.8 update combo....
I've got 2.4GHz Intel Core i5, and 4GB macbook pro
I want to be able to upgrade to Lion, but of course need the App Store icon to get it!
Any help will be great!

Home network lost after update to 10.3.4 on ibook

not sure if it is connected to the update but it all seems to of happen afterwards.
I have a home network both wired and wireless working fab. Use my ibook on wireless to talk to the internet and my home network with no problems. My G5 could see the ibook and same the other way round. then after 10.4.3 update on the ibook i seem to have lost my network. Now when i click on network(ibook) and see server, all i see is the ibook. I can still connect to the internet but not talk to my network. and the G5 can not see my ibook on the network any more too. Is there something supid i have missed or pressed on the ibook to loose my network connection.

i did get my ibook to see my g5 after putting in my G5 ip address many thanks Matt. But the question still remains that even the ibook cannot see the G5 on the Network folder in the (finder-Go-Network) it shows no network at all. Same on the G5 shows no ibook on the network. Any pointers?

After update all of my notes in iBooks have disappeared is there a way to retrieve them?

I had highlighted portions of the books in my library but now they are gone is there a way to retrieve my markings from before the update?

Settings App > Mail,Contacts,Calendars > Sunc (under CALENDARS section) > set to All Events).
The other thing you might look into is making sure all of your calendars are displayed (Calendar app > Calendar)

After update on iphone Itunes store and ibooks store aren't showing

I updated all apps and the iphone 4s itself
but i cant open the ibook and itunes store anymore
the screen stays blank
no errors just nothing seems to be loading
What did i do already?:
reset from the iphone
log of and on as apple id
cant reinstall the itunes store app because its one of the main apps from the telephone

After updating my iphone 3G and my ipotouch 3G with ios5, the apple remote controls (the white and the aluminium one) doesn´t react when iphone or ipod are docked at the universal dock. The remote controls both still work with my Macbook, therefore it must be a problem with the dock. I have tried to connect both with the dock (Menu + left for 6 seconds) but it doesn´t help. Further the volume control doesn´t react on the iphone and the ipod when they are docked. Neither the one on the touchscreen nor the buttons. The day before the update everything was fine. Anyone any idea?

Try:
- Reset the dock
- Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
- Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
- Restore from backup. See:
iOS: Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes
- Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
Otherwise you are out of luck. Apple is not making any more update for the 4G.
Also check with Phillips. Maybe they have an firmware update available

Dock problem after update to 10.4.6

After updating to 10.4.6 on my ibook g4, the dock's right click menus have become unusable. The menu options for the app come up but i'm not able to select any of them. The menu will also not disappear until i right click on the desktop somewhere.
So, for example, i'm not able to pause iTunes without switching to it first and then clicking pause.
Any one else facing this issue? Any idea if apple is aware of it, if its a bug, and working on a solution?

Hi I have just got back from the apple store and the guy at the Genius bar looked at it and said it was a manufacturing fault, and because it has been like it since new, and seemed to be getting worse he replaced the computer and I have a new warranty from today.
We got the feeling as soon as he looked at it that he has seen this before, I did say to him I was concerned it would be a replacement screen and I was not really happy about that as it was so new, and he said that was the normal procedure, but as the fault was already there at new and it was getting worse they would replace. I could not have asked for a better service.
Not unpacked this one yet but am hoping all is good, its a great little machine.

It is very difficult to offer troubleshooting suggestions when the "os version" you are using is unknown as each os has their own troubleshooting solutions.

However, sometimes an iOS update breaks compatibility and you will have to wait for an firmware update for the Bose or an iOS update.

I did installed iOS7 to my IPhone 4s, at the beginning I was happy with the new look and features but when I started to dock on my Sony mini Muteki system, I couldn't playback my music files as muteki system is not able to connect to iPhone, keep show message "connecting" on led screen.
Did any one face similar issues with docking to iPhone accessories, and how we can resolve it?
I hope Apple is working on update to solve this issues for docking with iPhone accessories, because if this issues not solved, then either iphone should go to trash or my system should go to trash.

This would seem to mimic the problems i am having with my car interface-
After updating to iOS7 I find that my iPhone 5 has connection issues with the audio system in my 2013 Mercedes ML350. When first plugged in the phone switches the audio system to the iPhone input and begins to play iTunes which it always did, however it resets the connection every ten seconds or so making the interface unusable. It also takes over the audio system so that when I switch to radio for example, which with iOS6 put the iTunes player in pause and switched to the radio, now the radio will play for a few seconds and then when the phone connection resets the phone takes control away from the radio.
Not sure if this is an iOS7 bug or if something in setup needs to be different. It is very annoying however and because the phone takes control I can no longer charge it in the car.
Basic phone functions all work through bluetooth and are fine.

After updating to 5.0.1 my keyboard dock no longer works.

After updating, the keyboard is no longer recognized. It shows that it is plugged in (charging) but keys won't respond.

Are the songs that you are trying to play grayed out in your playlists?
I had this problem after upgrading to iOS 5, and I found that deleting all the songs from my device and re-syncing them fixed the problem.
To do this:
1. Attach your iOS device (either using the cable or to the same wi-fi network if using iTunes Wi-Fi Sync).
2. Open iTunes, and click on your iOS device.
3. Click on the Music tab.
4. Uncheck the "Sync Music" checkbox at the top.
5. When asked, click "Don't Sync Music".
6. Sync the iOS device. Your songs will be removed from the device.
7. Check the "Sync Music" checkbox at the top once again.
8. Sync the iOS device again, and your songs will be re-added.
I don't know why the upgrade made some songs unreadable, but the resync fixed the problem for me (I had to do this for each of my iOS devices after upgrading them all to iOS 5). Fortunately, I only had 1,000 songs, so the resync didn't take forever.
