No HDMI input for HD-TV; component video doesn't give picture

I just swapped an HD DVR STB, which was connected via component video, for an HD STB.  There is no HDMI input on my HD ready TV, so I connected the STB to the TV via the same cables as the tech did when he came out (i.e., I used the component video and component audio connections).  I get sound, but no video.
I tried the other connections: S-video gives me a black and white picture,
and the standard coax cable gives me regular video + audio.
I would prefer to use the component video, though.  Is this a widespread problem?  Is there a solution?
Solved!
Go to Solution.

I'd connect it using the component cables, and then contact tech support and see if they can do a factory reset on the STB. If that fails, they will likely replace it.

The TV is HD, but only has a component input and not HDMI.  Apple TV 2g only has HDMI output.

Hey Igor, Welcome to the Nokia Forums!
Sorry that you have been experiencing problems with the video playback, have you tried performing a soft reset yet? This will not remove any data, only reset the device settings back to how they where when new.
To perform a soft reset firstly create a backup using Nokia Suite, then type in *#7780# in your phone and the security code 12345 by default if prompted.
If it does not work, you could also try and download a video playing app from Nokia Store to see if video playback functions better on it.
    I hope this has helped!

  • IMAC Displayport HDMI INPUT for Wii, PS3, XBOX360 etc

The iMAC supports to use its 27" monitor as an external monitor for other devices through its Mini Displayport that supports both output AND input.
There are many HDMI adapters for the Mini Display adapter but I want to know if a special adapter is required for input and what are the specifications/standards/name for the adapters, contacts and cables that are required?
Specifically I am going to use the 27" display for gaming consoles mentioned above (Wii with the Wii2HDMI adapter).
What do I need to know to write down on my shopping list? Thanks!

At this point I think that you are all wishing & hoping, but are perhaps operating on hype. Yes the 27" iMac is the first iMac with a video import. It has a bi-directional mini-DisplayPort. Various models of Macs have had mini-DisplayPorts for video output since 2008. It is not a new port on Macs.
There are a number of adapters for this port, some made by Apple, some made by a number of 3rd party Mac accessory manufacturers. Currently you can buy the following adapters; mini-DisplayPort to DVI (D), mini-DisplayPort to VGA, mini-DisplayPort to Dual-link DVI (D), and mini-DisplayPort to HDMI. There is also a mini-DisplayPort to mini-DisplayPort cable. The other thing to remember is that the mini-DisplayPort does not carry audio.
    However, if you go to the Apple iMac webpages you will find that Apple is very specific about how you can use the mini-DisplayPort at this time. This is what it says;
    Mini DisplayPort.
The Mini DisplayPort lets you connect an external display, including the Apple LED Cinema Display, to your iMac. On the 27-inch iMac, the same port offers input, too. So you can connect any external source that has DisplayPort output — including a MacBook or MacBook Pro — and use your iMac as a display. (emphasis mine)
So Apple is saying that currently you can use the 27" iMac as a display for devices with mini-DisplayPort output, such as another Mac, like one of the notebooks. Meaning that you can use the 27" as an external monitor for a MacBook Pro with a mini-DisplayPort to mini-DisplayPort cable.
Anything that you have read at outside websites with reviews about the new iMac and hooking up a Wii, a PlayStation, a Blu-Ray DVD, etc is pure speculation at this point and there is no guarantee that patching mini-DisplayPort adapters to other technology standard cables, such as DVI or HDMI, will provide the proper input to use the 27" as a display.

  • EDID file for SONY KDL40-XBR2 with HDMI input (for W510)

    Hello community,
Please does anybody has a configured EDID monitor file for a SONY  KDL40-XBR2 LCD TV? I'm using the HDMI input with a DisplayPort - HDMI cable and the image is awful. The monitor driver in Windows 7 is "Generic PnP Monitor" and it's pretty old. The problem is the text: fonts are pretty ugly...
I would like to over ride the settings using the NVidia control panel but don't have a valid EDID file configured for HDMI input.
I use right now the VGA port on my SONY  KDL40-XBR2 and the image quality is better and the fonts are fine.
Can someone please provide a hint here?

Of course, SONY is not providing generic INF monitor files for their line of LCDTV's... no wonder they are going down!

  • In need of an hdmi input for ustream on my iMac

    Hi,
I have a 2010 27" imac as well as a 2009 mbp.   I use them to stream live feeds of our church service to ustream via firewire and HD video cam.  We no longer have that camera and were looking at replacements.  All newer HD video cams send the feed via hdmi instead of firewire.  What can I get to connect my hdmi cam to my macs?   Any help would be great.
    Thanks

Can anyone shed some light on this,  there has to be something that works :S

  • Component Video from a Mac Pro

Hey All, i have a dual 2.66 mac pro with the Nvidia geforce 7300GT. What i'm trying to do is go from DVI to Component out to my 42" plasma to watch videos from the computer. The methods I've tried have results in an image of the desktop that is purple and flickering. Has anyone else done this? Or what are my other options. The plasma only has VGA, Component, HDMI and composite inputs, and I'd really like to go component so i don't have to take the monitor off the wall and re-wire.
Any light that can be shed would be greatly appreciated.
PS - To give a little back story I had a PC with a component out, so that is what is currently cabled to the tv, but the PC had a meltdown so now i'm converting fully to the MAC that I have had. I also have a HIS Digital x850 PCI-E graphics card from the pc that I have read can be put into the mac, but I'm not sure if i can do this or not. Again, any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!

No I understand the video card doesn't handle audio, let me tell you my pc setup that I had and you tell me if I can do this on a Mac.
Video wise I had a graphics card with a DVI and VGA port, along with a port that adapted to a component video output (3 RCA Plugs, Red Green Blue). That cable I fed to my 42" plasma into one of its component video inputs.
Audio wise I split the normal audio card output (headphone plug), one went to the computer speakers, the other went from headphone jack to 2 RCA plugs (right and left), which went I fed into the left and right audio channels of the plasma's component input alongside the 3 component video plugs.
Is there any way to do this with my Mac? The reason I really want to component is because everything is already wired and I won't have to take the monitor off the wall. Also, I’d like to go component because it seems like it is easier to get the audio into the monitor using component, as I don't see an audio input if I plug in VGA, and don't see a way to get audio into the chain if I go HDMI.
    Thanks.

  • Sony KDL52V5100 and HDMI inputs

I purchased a Sony KDL52V5100 from Best Buy in July, 2009.  Nice television. I have a Dishnetwork 922 DVR/Receiver as well a Klipsch theatre system attached to the HDMI inputs.  Suddenly, this weekend, the television would not pick up a signal from the Dishnetwork receiver, message saying "no signal".  I changed the HDMI cable, purchased a new one, moved it to all of the other HDMI inputs, (#2, 3, & 4), brought out the other Sony tv and hooked up both HDMI cables, again with no signal.  We were able to watch movies on the Klipsch DVD/Theatre system.  Dishnetwork sent a repairman out, thinking it had to be in the Dishreceiver.  He moves the HDMI cable from HDMI #1 input to #2, and walla, a picture.  Unbelievable.  Now, no picture with the Klipsch DVD/Theatre, only sound and a green screen.  Could this problem be all in the HDMI inputs on the tv?  The #1 input, which had the Dishnetwork receiver originally in it, does appear slightly loose, but not enough that the cable will not stay in it.  And why now the problem with the HDMI input for the DVD/Theatre?  Any ideas?  Anyone else have this kind of problem?  Is this a Sony TV problem with the HDMI inputs, or the cables, which we've changed once already with new ones.

Problem solved!  With the Klipsch DVD/Theatre system, if you are using a HDMI cable, you must also attach the video in/video out cables.  Beautiful picture now and terrific sound.

  • Less expensive component video cable?

I'm looking for a special component video cable that works with the Epson Powerlite 77c video projector.
    The cable looks like this:
    http://www.superwarehouse.com/EpsonProjector_Component_VideoCable/ELPKC19/p/41751
The cable is 1 x 15-pin Mini D-Sub at the projector end and 3 x RCA (R/G/B) Component Video at the source end.
I'm wondering if there is comparable non-Epson cable that would be substantially cheaper. Any ideas? Thanks!

    Thanks!
    Sounds like

    or this
    http://www.cablewholesale.com/specs/10h1-50103.htm
might do the trick. Though I'm not sure why they make a distinction between SVGA and VGA in the cable. I didn't know the cable knew the difference.

  • How i can give date in each input for applying the exchange rate in Query.

    Hi Gurus,
We have a requirement to create some currency conversion queries. In the selection screen user should be able to give four inputs. Like given below
    Input 1.          a)  key figures
                            b) Fiscal Year
                            c) Fiscal Period
                            d) Exchange Rate Type
                            e) Date (Exchange rate will be applied which is applicable on the given date)
      Input 2.         a)  key figures
                            b) Fiscal Year
                            c) Fiscal Period
                            d) Exchange Rate Type
                            e) Date (Exchange rate will be applied which is applicable on the given date)
    Input 3.          a)  key figures
                            b) Fiscal Year
                            c) Fiscal Period
                            d) Exchange Rate Type
                            e) Date (Exchange rate will be applied which is applicable on the given date)
    Input 4.          a)  key figures
                            b) Fiscal Year
                            c) Fiscal Period
                            d) Exchange Rate Type
                            e) Date (Exchange rate will be applied which is applicable on the given date)
So we will have 4 key figures in the query results with the exchange rate applied on the given date.
I will make four restricted key figures and make the query. I do not know how i can give date in each input for applying the exchange rate.
Please give your suggestions to resolve my problem.
    Many thaks in advance.

You can not bring the key figures in the selection screen for the currency translation. Instead you can apply a currency translation type to respective key figures in the query definition.
The currency translation type can be defined in RSCUR transaction, where you can maintain the parameters like Exchange Rate Type, Exchange Rate Date etc.

  • How can I do live streaming with a Mac Book Pro 2011, using a new model of Sony HD camcorder which does not have firewire out/input? it comes only with a component video output, USB, HDMI and composite RCA output?

I need to do live streaming with a Mac Book Pro 2011, using a new model of Sony HD camcorder (http://store.sony.co...ber=HDRAX2000/H) ..this camcorder model does not have firewire out/input ..it comes only with a component video output, USB, HDMI and composite A/V video output..
I wonder how can I plug this camcorder to the firewire port of my laptop? Browsing on internet I found that Grass Valley Company produces this converter http://www.amazon.co...=A17MC6HOH9AVE6 ..but I am not sure -not even after checking the amazon reviews- if this device will send the video signal through firewire to my laptop, in order to live streaming properly? ..anyone in this forum could help me please?
    Thanx

I can't broadcast with the built in iSight webcam... how would I zoom in or zoom out? or how would I pan? I've seem people doing it walking with their laptops but that's not an option for me... there's nothing wrong with my USB ports but that's neither an option to stream video because as far as I know through USB you can't connect video in apple operating systems ..you can for sure plug any video cam or photo camera through usb but as a drive to transfer data not as a live video camera...  is by firewire an old interface developed by apple that you can connect all sorts of cameras to apple computers... unfortunately my new sony HDR-AX2000 camcorder doesn't have firewire output...
    thanx

  • Connections: 3 HDMI; 1 S-Video input; 2 Component Video; 3 Composite Video

    Hi,
I just went to the store to get a HDMI-DVI and mini (from my macbook) to DVI to watch my MB on my tv. I only see the desktop background without the icons or any window I have open. What am I doing wrong? Please help Are there any specials steps to see the whole enchilada?
    Here are my tv's specs:
Connections: 3 HDMI; 1 S-Video input; 2 Component Video; 3 Composite Video Inputs; 1 RS232 Control; 1 Digital Audio Output; 1 PC Video Input; 1 PC Audio Input
    thank you.

Connect the MB to its AC adapter. Now close the lid on the MB so it goes to sleep. Now plug in a USB mouse to the MB so it wakes up again. When it wakes up with the lid down, only the TV will be used as the display and the menu bar and everything will be on the TV. Once that happens, you can open the MacBook's lid if you need to use the keyboard. You could also plug in a USB keyboard and leave the lid down as an alternative. If you don't own a USB keyboard or USB mouse, you can wake up the MB with another USB device, like a flash memory stick.

  • Can i use both Component video and HDMI?

    Hi guys,
Im wondering if its possible to connect both Component video and HDMI on the ATV?
Its currently connected to HDMI on our main HD TV, however, the apartment we have has a strange setup in which you must send RF signals to a loop back in the main room to reach all other TV's.
We dont have the capital for either another flatscreen TV or a second Apple TV until next year - so currently we've got an older (see 2004) bulk of a CRT TV upstairs and my thought was i could route a signal to the RF loop back from the ATV and use my iphone remote to control what it plays to view upstairs.
For this id need a component to composite/rf convertor which ive found so sending the signal is no problem, but what would happen if i were to connect component cables as well as the HDMI, does the ATV output on both, or priortise the HDMI?

When both types of cable are connected to the tv at the same time, the HDMI connection will be on by default but the component is turned off... and what happens if the source to the HDMI cable is off - eg its plugged in but its got no where to send the signal, would it still not send to the component?.. You mean if the tv was off, same thing, HDMI would take precedence.
Are you sure about this, Winston? I have only 2 component (and 2 HDMI) inputs on my Panasonic HDTV. For this reason I invested in an Audio Authority Component Switcher (Model 1154A) a few years ago. When the TV device arrived I connected it directly to the HDTV via my HDMI-2 HDTV input and also connected the component video and optical audio to the switcher. I have no problem using the HDTV's input selector to switch back and forth between component and HDMI lines. While I admit I cannot split the screen between an HDMI input and anything else for simultaneous viewing, I can leave both lines plugged in and switch between the two lines. In addition, the activity light on the switcher indicates there is a signal present on the switcher even when I am watching the HDMI line. (Of course, this may simply be triggered by the switcher's optical audio signal since I normally watch the TV video via the HDMI line (with HDMI audio muted) and use the optical audio line to drive my receiver's AC3 decoder so I can enjoy 5.1 audio with my latest conversions.) Am, therefore, wondering if the OP may have the same capability and could then simply switch to a different input mode to "de-negotiate" his HDMI connection and allow access to whatever component device he needs as long as he doesn't need simultaneous viewing on both TVs.
