No information about site collection

Hi All,
I came across a strange issue where I can not browse the root site collection, I am also not able to see the information about the site collection, though I can see the browse the other site collection in the same DB.
Any clue??

Use PowerShell (Get-SPSite "http://webUrl/"). Does that bring any information? If not, try creating one.

  • User Profile email address not updated on Site Collection User Information

    Hi All,
    Ok here we go....SharePoint 2007 with SSP profile sync not enabled, however I have a few profiles I need to update (email address).  This has been completed by editing the user profile in SSP, but when viewing the information via Site Collection >
    People & Groups > User Information "Work E-mail" is still showing the old one.
    All alerts are still being sent to the old email address, SSP DB UserProfile_Full shows the new email address as per SSP.
    Anyone know where else user profile emails are stored which is used by Exchange?
    Many Thanks, Roger

    After the email address in SharePoint user profile is updated to [email protected], you have to wait until
    they are synchronized into the user information list in SharePoint site collections so that alert can be sent to that address. • Site Collection Content Database 250GB Limit

    Hi All,
    i recently read that the supported maximum size of a content Database is 250GB. is this true ? if we want to exceed this limit, is there any way to do that ? if we want to store more than that (1TB+) what can we do?
    Thank you!

    Hello ,
    #Copied
    Content databases of up to 4 TB are supported when the following requirements are met:
    Disk sub-system performance of 0.25 IOPs per GB. 2 IOPs per GB is recommended for optimal performance.
    You must have developed plans for high availability, disaster recovery, future capacity, and performance testing.
    You should also carefully consider the following factors:
    Requirements for backup and restore may not be met by the native SharePoint Server 2013 backup for content databases larger than 200 GB. It is recommended to evaluate and test SharePoint Server 2013 backup and
    alternative backup solutions to determine the best solution for your specific environment.
    It is strongly recommended to have proactive skilled administrator management of the SharePoint Server 2013 and SQL Server installations.
    The complexity of customizations and configurations on SharePoint Server 2013 may necessitate refactoring (or splitting) of data into multiple content databases. Seek advice from a skilled professional architect
    and perform testing to determine the optimum content database size for your implementation. Examples of complexity may include custom code deployments, use of more than 20 columns in property promotion, or features listed as not to be used in the over 4 TB
    section below.
    Refactoring of site collections allows for scale out of a SharePoint Server 2013 implementation across multiple content databases. This permits SharePoint Server 2013 implementations to scale indefinitely. This
    refactoring will be easier and faster when content databases are less than 200 GB.
    It is suggested that for ease of backup and restore that individual site collections within a content database be limited to 100 GB. For more information, see Site
    collection limits.

  • Site collection movement to another content database

    HI All,
    we are using sharepoint 2010 and have 2 big production web applications. 7 content databases are attached with one web application. Out of 7 cdb's, 3 content databases are more than 200 gb. The rest 4 cdbs are small in size. I want to pick some bigger site
    collection from those 3 bigger cdbs, and move them to any of the rest 4 cdb's.
    As per my knowledge.
    1. All the 7 cdb's are attached to a single web application.
    2. CDB's are in same instance of sql server.
    My question here is, how (move-SPSITE URL DESTINATIONCONTENTDATABASE WSS_COntent_abc) works.
    Question 1.  Will this cmdlets take the backup of URL mentioned , keep it somewhere in file system, and then move it to destination. and then delete it from source.
    Question 2: Or it will only move it to destination CDB, and delete it from source. Without taking any backup.
    Please help me to understand these questions.
    Thanks

    Hi,
    According to your post, my understanding is that you wanted to move site collection to another content database.
    You can use the Windows PowerShell command Move-SPSite to move site collections between content databases. However, it cannot backup the database.
    To backup database, you can use the Windows PowerShell command:
    Backup-SPFarm -Directory   <Backup folder>  -BackupMethod {Full | Differential} -Item <Content database name> [-Verbose]

  • Script to collect basic information about a database

    Hi,
    I recently started working at a new place, with lots of Oracle Databases.
    I have need for a nice script for collecting basic information about this databases. A few years ago I found some scripts at Metalink for this, but now I can´t find any....
    Anyone who could point out where to find this?
    Best Regards //Björn

    You can use Statspack. You have the most important information and you have an overview of how the database performes.

  • Satellite P305-S8909 - why the site doesn't have information about it?

    Hello
    Guys, I'd like to know if someone got this model: P305-S8909
    Does it really run warm as I saw in some reviews?
    Also, is a notebook worth getting?
    Is the keyboard good?
    Why can't I find this model anymore in some websites? Did it get discontinued?
    Also, this model has LED LCD?
    Thanks!

    Hi
    A friend of me has the Satellite P300 that is very similar to the Satellite P305. He is very satisfied with this notebook and dont have any problems with it. The notebook isnt getting more hot as other notebooks the keyboard with extra numpad is very useful.
    Normally you can find all informations about this notebook on the Toshiba US page:
    http://www.csd.toshiba.com
    But as the other users said I would wait for the P500. I have a little bit searched with Google and its a very interesting and nice notebook. ;)

  • Setup Team Foundation Server - Team Site Collection - SharePoint Web Application Settings failed with error TF205014, TF250025

    Hi
    I have TFS server installed and working with other SharePoint farm.  (TFS installed,  SharePoint extension installed and Granted Access for TFS.
    When Setup TFS - SharePoint Web Application Settings,  It ask for the three values:
    Web Application URL:
    Central Administration URL:
    Default Location of team project collection sites:
    What notice about the TFS sites that are working is that they are Path Based Site Collection.  Created with SharePoint Web Application managed path (like
    http://spserver/sites/tfs_site1) and so it easy to see it will work.
    Web Application URL:  http://spserver
    CA URL :   http://spserver:portnumber
    Default Location :  Sites or any managed path
    We start using Host Name Site Collection (HNSC) to get the benefit of multiple unique site name without having multiple web application for each.  Work great but when we tried to setup and extend TFS service on the HNSC, we could
    not get them to work and got errors when trying different variation of path URL.
    After doing lot of searching on this, I came up pretty empty and I don't know if that is possible so my question is Have anyone able to setup TFS to work with SharePoint 2013 Host Name Site Collection?
    If you have, a simple yes will be great but please share or even if anyone think it is possible or not possible, please share too.
    Thanks in advance for any comment / suggestion.
    Swanl

    Hi  Swanl,
    I’m afraid that we cannot setup TFS to work  with SharePoint 2013 Host Name Site Collection.
    Also you can  initial a new thread in Visual Studio Team Foundation Server forums:

  • Is there a way for a site owner to copy a custom calendar that resides on a site on one site collection to a site on another site collection?

    A user contacted me about copying and moving information from an old site that is being retired to a new site.
    The most important info is the department calendar.
    I don't see a way to use the "Manage content and structure" functionality to copy or move a calendar from one site collection to another.
    And site owners do not generally have enough permissions to create templates into the gallery.
    Is this just not possible for him to do on his own?
    Thank you for your help!

    I gave up and created templates for the site owner and created the corresponding list for them on the new site.
    I was startled to discover that even though I said I wanted to include all content, the 4 columns that were of type "people picker" did not, for the most part, transfer.
    So the columns will have to be manually entered. But at least the rest of the effort is done.

  • Error when trying to create a Site or Site Collection

    Hi,
    I am trying to create site in site collection in sharepoint online 2013
    Pls help me

    Verify that you have the following administrative credentials:
    To create a site collection, you must be a member of the Farm Administrators SharePoint group on the computer that is running the SharePoint Central Administration website.
    Start SharePoint 2013 Central Administration.
    For Windows Server 2008 R2:
    Click Start, click Microsoft SharePoint 2013 Products, and then click
    SharePoint 2013 Central Administration.
    For Windows Server 2012:
    On the Start screen, click SharePoint 2013 Central Administration.
    If SharePoint 2013 Central Administration is not on the
    Start screen:
    Right-click Computer, click All apps, and then click
    SharePoint 2013 Central Administration.
    On the Central Administration website, in the Application Management section, click
    Create site collections.
    On the Create Site Collection page, in the Web Application section, if the web application in which you want to create the site collection is not selected, on the
    Web Application menu, click Change Web Application, and then click the web application in which you want to create the site collection.
    In the Title and Description section, type the title and description for the site collection.
    In the Web Site Address section, select the path to use for your URL (for example, a wildcard inclusion path such as /sites/, or the root directory (/).
    If you select a wildcard inclusion path, you must also type the site name to use in your site's URL.
    In the Template Selection section, in the Select experience version list, select the SharePoint experience version of the templates that you want to use.
    Select the 2010 experience version if you want the site collection to look and run like a site collection in SharePoint Server 2010. A site collection that uses the 2010 experience version runs in SharePoint 2013, but the user interface and user experience
    of the site collection is that of SharePoint Server 2010. A site collection that uses the 2010 experience version can be upgraded at any time to the 2013 experience version. For more information about how to upgrade a site collection,
    In the Template Selection section, in the Select a template list, select the template that you want to use for the top-level site in the site collection, or click the
    Custom tab to create an empty site and apply a template later.
    A description for the template that you select appears below the list of templates.
    In the Primary Site Collection Administrator section, type the user name (in the form DOMAIN\username) for the user who will be the site collection administrator.
    In the Secondary Site Collection Administrator section, type the user name for the secondary administrator of the site collection.
    Designating a secondary site collection administrator is a best practice to ensure that someone can manage the site collection when a primary site collection administrator is not present.
    If you are using quotas to manage storage for site collections, in the
    Quota Template section, click a template in the Select a quota template list.
    Click OK.

  • Building Site Collections in SharePoint Online

    Hello all,
    Please forgive me for this very basic question, but I was not able to find the info online.
    Background info: I have a great deal of experience with SharePoint administration on-prem but not much experience with SharePoint Online. My current organization has O365 and wants to build a collaboration environment and an Intranet. I understand the information
    architecture practices that would have been common for this for an on-prem environment, and I understand that those have changed with 2013 and SharePoint Online due to the new practice of organizing everything under one web app.
    Between reading some articles and using my experience with on-prem, I am trying to design an organized information architecture that will facilitate both environments and the permissions structures they require. My tentative plan was to build one site collection
    for the Intranet under https://mycompany.sharepoint.com/sites (under which subsites would be built for various Intranet divisions), and then a number of individual site collections for the collaboration environment under https://mycompany.sharepoint.com/teams
    (/hr, /finance, etc., so that content owners and users could work in their own site collection without affecting a site collection belonging to someone else).
    This is the article that initially caused me to believe that this is possible/a good idea: http://blogs.msdn.com/b/richard_dizeregas_blog/archive/2014/09/01/sharepoint-online-information-architecture-considerations.aspx.
    "For [managed paths] you get the root, /search (explicit managed path), /sites (wildcard managed path), and /teams (wildcard managed path)."
    However this article leads me to believe that I will not be allowed to create any site collections at all, only subsites: https://support.office.com/en-us/article/Plan-sites-and-manage-users-8e568d8d-3d65-42c4-99fa-f7285c9db842.
    "You cannot create additional site collections in SharePoint Online for Office 365 for Small Business."
    I understand the answer to this may depend on what version of O365 we have, and I am working to find that out.
    My understanding is that I cannot be made a SharePoint Online administrator without being a global O365 administrator: http://blogs.technet.com/b/lystavlen/archive/2012/06/14/understanding-the-administrator-role-in-sharepoint-online.aspx.
    "You cannot separate the roles of Office 365 global administrator and SharePoint Online Administrator."
    Thus, I don't currently have the level of access I need to browse around the administration area and find the answers to my questions that way. When the time comes, I will likely be given temporary access or will be working with an O365 global administrator
    to build.
    Main question: Will I be allowed to build site collections under managed paths?
    Larger question: How are others managing the information architecture for an Intranet and a Collaboration environment in SharePoint Online, especially if the answer to the prior question is no?
    Thanks in advance for any insight you can offer.

    Hi,
    According to the error message, the Microsoft.Online.SharePoint.Client.Tenant.dll seems not been loaded.
    You can find it in the path below:
    C:\Program Files\SharePoint Client Components\Assemblies
    A code snippet about how to retrieve a list of site collections in a tenant for your reference:
    const string username = "[email protected]";
    const string password = "password";
    const string tenantAdminUrl = "https://yourdomain-admin.sharepoint.com/";
    var securedPassword = new SecureString();
    foreach (var c in password.ToCharArray()) securedPassword.AppendChar(c);
    var credentials = new SharePointOnlineCredentials(username, securedPassword);
    using (var context = new ClientContext(tenantAdminUrl))
    context.Credentials = credentials;
    var tenant = new Tenant(context);
    SPOSitePropertiesEnumerable spp = tenant.GetSiteProperties(0, true);
    context.Load(spp);
    context.ExecuteQuery();
    foreach (SiteProperties sp in spp)
    Console.WriteLine(sp.Title);
    Best regards,
    Patrick

  • Site collections, or sub-sites, in SharePoint Online?

    We have an established SharePoint 2010 intranet portal, which has many and various team sub-sites.  These sub-sites are created on request - sometimes it's because one of our locations wants their own little area to share documents, or it might be for
    a company-wide project or initiative.
    We are now slowly moving over to SharePoint Online.  Mainly, it's to replace Box and Dropbox (which some teams use), and allow our staff to share files externally if needed.  Nothing special, just a document library.  More often than not,
    each site will have its own unique permissions.
    Now, our SharePoint 2010 site is one large site collection (wasn't my idea).  As an administrator, that makes my life quite easy as it's one content database, one set of content types, etc.  But, with SharePoint Online, I don't need to think about
    content databases, and won't be using custom content types with these sites.
    So, I'm a bit stuck.  My options, as I see it, are:
    One large site collection (pretty much a no-go as these shared files might get quite large)
    One site collection for each request, no questions asked (which might lead to hundreds of site collections)
    Create a site collection for each office location, and then a sub-site for each team in that location (as requested) - and also create a site collection for each company-wide function, and create a sub-site for each project within that function
    Can anyone give any pointers towards the "best" option to use here?

    it always depends on different things.
    One of the key elements I always use to decide site vs site collection is security boundary.
    If the target site has a high level of confidentional information, I prefer a dedicated Site collection.
    If it is just a smaller team (or broader team) to share info with you can easy use sub sites.
    Looking at the boundary & limits is also wise to do. (like the 5000 item treshold in a view on a document library)
    A document library should in practice not really be used for multiple teams, however it is possible. A lot of dl's within a site is also not that intuitive for a lot of end-users.
    A office location can be use, however, a lot of work is done across office locations. (now or in the future)
    One site collection per each request is not by definition a bad thiing... however please be in control (governance) of the owners. For example let a site collection owner every x months acknowledge that he/she still needs that site collection or that it
    can be removed.
    One Large site collection is asking for trouble in the end. however for a publishing intranet only it can be good.
    Good luck with your choice for your environment!

  • Information about linked server details including remote login in use

    After joining a new organization, one day an application support came to ask brief information about all the SQL Server linked servers and few more important configuration details.
    They were looking to upgrade their application and database. In order to know all possible sources of their data feed, the guy needed this information.
    Most of the information could have been taken by running
    sp_linkedservers but because login information was also required I preferred to run following query to collect the required data.
    SELECT
    srv.name as LinkedServerName
    ,srv.product
    ,srv.provider
    ,srv.data_source
    ,srv.catalog
    ,sp.name
    ,lgn.uses_self_credential
    ,lgn.remote_name remote_login_in_use
    FROM
    sys.servers
    AS srv JOIN
    sys.linked_logins
    AS lgn
    ON
    srv.server_id = lgn.server_id
    AND srv.is_data_access_enabled
    = 1
    LEFT
    JOIN sys.server_principals
    AS sp ON lgn.local_principal_id
    = sp.principal_id
    WHAT IS actual data source Server Name
    Although they got the information, but they could not recognize the actual server names as highlighted in the
    srv_data_source column. All they said that, the linked servers were created by DBAs.
    I tried to ping these names from my user desktop, but could not Ping request could not find host.
    Tried to check the SQL Server Aliases but there were no alias defined for any of the server names.
    Finally I looked into the host file and found the entries. The ping from my desktop did not work because the host file entries are local to the database server. Because SQL Server instance is sitting on the same server where the
    names are entered into the host file, it was able to resolve the host names. Also Ping from the database server worked. The host file looked like as below (C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc)
    Hope this information helps you!!.
    Warm Regards, Ajay
